Avoid at all costs

Where do I even begin? I'm sure we've all encountered deficiencies in hotel rooms before...not a huge deal...but I've never been treated like I was by the woman running the place. Our air conditioner, fridge, tv remote, and bbq were not working properly, so we went to the office to speak with someone. In 39 C heat, my 8-month pregnant wife and I were not comfortable and were hoping they could do something about it. We were told by the manager that the AC didn't work because we had too many people in the room. Huh? She said the fridge didn't work because we "crammed" it with food. It should cool its contents over-night, but we still just had 6 small bottles of water in it. She told me I never called the front desk, but I did (and left messages). She said the breaker tripped because of my wife's curling iron. My wife didn't even bring a curling iron. She told me I never contacted the handyman, but I did (he was helping us out all night with things). When asking for compensation for a room that wasn't equipped as advertised, she told us it's not that expensive when divided 4 ways. Excuse me? You don't know anything about my financial situation.

She finally agreed to get the evening shift worker who started at 4pm to find us a room in another hotel. We would still have to pay for the first night, but we wouldn't be charged for a second. The evening worker got a room by 5:30 pm and we were out within 2 hours (reasonable, I think). The next day my wife returned to verify that there is no outstanding invoice, and we were told that we were being charged for the second night! She said she "changed her mind" and she had more important matters to attend to and didn't want to deal with us. Obviously upset, my wife demanded that she deal with the matter at hand. The manager then instructed the handyman to physically remove my pregnant wife, and threatened to call the RCMP.

We disputed the charges with Visa to no avail. She made up complete lies (e.g. we weren't supposed to have 4 people in the room, we plugged in all sorts of electronics that broke the AC, they booked us a room in the morning and we weren't out until the evening, etc.), so Visa didn't reverse charges - we were still dinged with the charges.

If anything positive can be drawn from our horrible experience, it will be to save others from the same debacle we experienced.

this place is a bit of a dive. we rolled in here on canada day and spent $160 for a pretty drab room on the ground floor of the motel complex. the crowd definitely blends in with the surroundings - think ed hardy, big bright orange jeeps and monster energy.

save your $$ and stay at a bed and breakfast. all the motels along this strip are really well located, and that's all that you are getting.

I've stayed at the Tiki Shores 3 times now. Unfortunately it seems like each year we go back things are a little bit worse than the time before.

To start with it seems they have an obsession with starting construction in the morning after the beer festival in Penticton - that has been the trend for the last 2 years in a row.

While the overall condition of the units is fairly good, it seems... more
