This theater started in the late 1960s, when a pool of actors began experimenting and improvising original Canadian material. It continues to produce innovative, provocative theater by such contemporary Canadian playwrights as John Mighton, Daniel David Moses, and Wajdi Mouawad. There are two stages -- the Mainspace seats 220; the more intimate (if rather uncomfortable) Backspace seats 70.

Great evening seeing Night of The Living Dead Live! Small and intimate performing space, great for a small audience. Only down side is that the bar is upstairs, and drinks are only aloud to be on the upper level. If you have floor seats = no booze.

Recently saw a performance there - Ride The Cyclone. Very good production and the it was great to be in a limited seating capacity environment which provided a cozy viewing setting.

In addition to the company's season of leading-edge Canadian plays, local artists and cooperative groups without their own... more

More than 30 years old, Theatre Passe Muraille (from the French, meaning literally, theatre beyond walls) grew out of a radical movement begun at Rochdale College. Early shows were collective in nature, and while most of the work now programmed is fully scripted, the theatre's directors would like to believe they haven't lost their edge. The mainspace is a large black box with flexible seating... more
