This Virginia-creeper-covered 1912 heritage building is popular because of its affordable rates and its near-perfect location: a stone's throw from the beach on scenic English Bay, two blocks from Stanley Park and a 20-minute walk from Robson Street. The rooms and apartment-style suites vary from tiny to spacious. Many of the basic but comfortable rooms are large enough to sleep four, and all... more

Lots of folks love the Sylvia, mostly for its fabulous location, and many are eager to recommend it, but pretty as the old girl is from the outside, inside she's a modest, plain-Jane sort of place. The hotel clerk tried to charge us for two nights even though we had only booked one night on Expedia. I had to print the booking email from Expedia before he would admit his mistake. He told us we... more
