This Virginia-creeper-covered 1912 building is popular because of its affordable rates and its near-perfect location a stone's throw from the beach on scenic English Bay. It's two blocks from Stanley Park and a 20-minute walk from Robson Street. The rooms and apartment-style suites vary from tiny to spacious. Many of the basic but comfortable rooms are large enough to sleep four, and all have... more
Lots of folks love the Sylvia, mostly for its fabulous location, and many are eager to recommend it, but pretty as the old girl is from the outside, inside she's a modest, plain-Jane sort of place. This is a "heritage building" hotel (the original wing, anyway) that underplays style and doesn't believe in glamour. Our first time staying at the Sylvia--will definitely go back! Loved the character, the views, close proximity to English Bay,Stanley Park, restaurants. Found it to be a charming place to stay, enjoyed the patio for drinks in the afternoon and dinner in the dining room was delicious with attentive service and a fabulous view!
I love this hotel because it is old and comfortable and in a great area . It is like stepping back in time when you stayed at a full service hotel that was not a Holiday Inn.
For location and value-for-money, you simply can't beat this hotel in Vancouver. They are undergoing some renos in the hallway, but this did not bother me in the slightest in the course of my stay.
