Sushi on Bloor is pretty popular in the area and I've been meaning to try it out for awhile. While the portions are generous and the fish tastes fresh, with some creative rolls too, I thought it was expensive.
The portions are actually only generous because there is a lot of rice. I guess I'm a bit of a sushi snob. Still, it is usually crowded and very clean.
I've heard a lot of good things about Sushi on Bloor, but I guess it was a bit overhyped. I enjoyed the teriyaki chicken, garden salad, and awesome tempura (if it grows, they'll fry it) but was disappointed with the sushi.
The rolls are big, but that's because there's a lot of rice. Also, the fish seemed to be really bland and the spicy tuna rolls were only just average. The best thing about this place is the tempura and large portions; you'll definitely end up full but be prepared for only average sushi.
great menu, ok service, reasonable prices
WAY better than new generation.
"You can't beat the portions or the price" at this "busy" Annex standby plying students and other cost-conscious diners with "high-value" Japanese eats like the popular sushi pizza; sure, service can be "inconsistent" and decor just "alright", but line-ups "out the door" suggest loyalists don't mind.
Sushi on Bloor continues to be one of the most popular "cheap sushi" joint in the city. Expect line-ups to get in on weekends at this busy, two-floor spot on Bloor.
The exact completely mediocre sushi that you find across the city. On Bloor.
Great and expensive food is easy to find. Great and cheap food is definitely a treasure. Sushi on bloor is one of those places. I major on the makis there - food is great. Service is quick, not always the most ... polite ... but understandable because of all the patrons. Busy ALL THE TIME - so you'd better make reservations.
my DrogonBoat team goes here after practices for a huge feast. THey also give free soup & ice-cream!!!
Sushi On Bloor provides an alternative to the myriad pub grub choices on this bohemian restaurant row. Japanese cuisine selections include sushi and sashimi, tempura, with many named after local landmarks.
