I came to Toronto in 1980 seeking employment. I was hired at Steve's Music Store doing shipping and receiving, and what ever other behind the scenes jobs came up. I never left, I have...

Steve's Music Store opened its doors in Montreal on May 15th, 1965. We had our humble beginnings with one store front, and a whole lot of hard work. Today, the Montreal store has expanded to nine sections, encompassing a city block in size. In the intervening years, Steve's has expanded to locations in Toronto and Ottawa but you don't even need to be in one of those cities, as Steve's now has... more
Steve's has evolved into a world renowned store and a major force in the Canadian music industry. Steve's caters to all your musical needs: acoustic, electric and bass guitarists, drummers & percussionists, keyboard players, pianists, brass & wind players, composers, public address systems, rentals and sheet music.
you can find the best quality instruments, recording devices and accessories - many times i've run into local and national musicians buying or renting gear - i really like the vibe here too
Steve's has any and everything you could possibly want to perform music. the staff is entirely knowledgable and friendly. It's a little cramped inside, so don't bring any bags, or wear big coats so you don't scratch guitars
Steves is competing as one of Toronto's two major music stores. They have a great selection and very competitive pricing, there are also some great deals to be found if you look hard enough. One down side if found about Steve's is that some specialty orders can take months.
"Browse, try, rent or buy" at this institution, "a musician's candy store" for "beginners" and pros, where shoppers can sample a "very good selection of instruments" "to their heart's content"; browsers say they "could spend hours" perusing, and with the help of "sales associates who really know their products."
Amazing customer service from amazing staff!! Please go here for all your musical needs!
These guys are here to cater & please!!!
Merci!!
Located on Queen Street West, Steve's Music Store has become one of the musical instrument staples that is part of the Toronto cultural scene. If you happen to be a young whipper snapper interested in buying your first instrument in hopes of making it into the music industry in hopes of achieving rock star cocaine fuelled dreams or learning the acoustic guitar to play the same old Bruno Mars... more
The only reason people know Steve's is the sign and the convenient Queen W location. Selection is OK, but the guitar department is limited compared to The Arts or 12th Fret. You never know what you'll get with the staff, but often they are bratty, unhelpful, and not willing to let you try 'top shelf' items despite all their Try Anything signs.
Be prepared for a staff member to give you a 10...

This music store has come a long way since it first opened its doors in a seedy part of Montreal in 1965. Today, the Toronto store is massive and there's also a third store in Ottawa. There's no great secret to its success: the ability to provide musicians, both amateur and professional, with the musical equipment they demand. The store also sports a sheet music section, public address systems... more
