Terrible Food and Service

This is another disappointing restaurant in the trendy downtown Vancouver area. Stepho's carries a reputation for having long line-ups and large portions for the price. Both are true, the reputation does not include great food or service. The restaurant itself looks nicely decorated and clean, but it is incredibly cramped and has a cafeteria style seating arrangement. Hearing about the long wait, my party made reservations ahead of time. Upon arrival we discovered our reservation was given away to a VIP. I was not thrilled at all. When we were finally seated, it took fifteen minutes before they brought us our menus or offered to bring us drinks. When our orders finally arrived we were all disgusted. The calamari was tasteless and had the consistency of rubber. The lamb was overcooked and the souvlaki utterly vile. No one in our party finished our food and no one brought the remaining food home. We paid our bill, left abruptly and vowed never to return.

This is a place lined up daily for plates piled high. There is nothing all that redeeming about the burn ’n’ turn food or service here—it’s a cheap eats and volume thing. Menu covers the usual suspects such as spanakopita ($4.95); calamari ($7.95 for appetizer, $9.95 for dinner); lamb, chicken, beef, and prawn souvlaki ($7.95 to $10.95); and roast lamb ($9.95).

We went to Stepho's for a late last minute dinner... There was no lineup (which was nice since it was freezing outside) yet we stood inside for about 5 minutes with not 1 member of staff to say hello, greet us, even look at us while stood there! I cannot dismiss the fact that their food is good and nicely done. BUT I have a major concern with their quality. I don't know much about the roasted meats but their vegetables are unacceptable. I work in a grocery store so I know what freshness is and what I got was definitely not that. The cucumbers were melty and off while the tomatoes were beyond help. The food was pretty good but I was very upset that I got double charged and they have yet to deal with it and i now have to get my banks loss protection to become involved! Very frustrating
