I wish I had found this website before taking my cat here. She got an infection after the procedure, a few days afterwards, and it caused a bunch of other complications with her as well as she wouldn't go to the bathroom properly anymore. Had to go to another clinic to get her taken care of because the Spay Clinic didn't have the ability to do any follow-up treatment on her, just the initial procedure. I really wish I had gone somewhere else to begin with!!
I took my cat to be neutered at the Spay Clinic. Signed a waver permitting necessary procedures should any complications arise on July 26, 2010. We followed all directions and carefully watched the site of incision for infection.
July 31, 2010 I noticed scabs forming and inflammation. He wouldn't eat or drink, and couldn't go potty. We immediately took him to the Emergency Clinic, as the Spay Clinic was closed. We were given antibiotics and antibacterial cream and advised to follow up with our regular vet.
We have insurance to cover the cost of prescriptions and grateful we chose to get coverage as the resulting infection has cost us several hundred dollars. The insurance company told us we needed to have records from every veterinary service provider that has examined our cat, and we were horrified by the response from the Spay Clinic.
We were advised that they do NOT keep any sort of records including the waiver we signed. The only records they keep is a copy of the receipt given to us that is signed by the veterinarian. I was told that since we chose not to wait until Monday to give the Spay Clinic an opportunity to examine him free of charge, we nullified any liability on their part and that if the insurance company denies our claim not to bother going after them for compensation. I had not even suggested that would be a consideration or course of action.
Today, August 9, 2010, our cat is still undergoing treatment for what our veterinarian has described as the absolute worst neuter-related infection she has ever seen. She advised the resulting infection was caused by lack of proper sanitary conditions when the neutering was performed.
This is just my own experience. We were short cash when we took him to the Spay Clinic, but the cost of taking him that has far exceeded the cost of blood testing, procedure, and optional treatments through our regular vet.
About a year ago I called the spay clinic about my dog a bullmastiff mix whom was 8 months old and was extremely aggressive. I was told to get him neutered as it might help the aggression. They took forever to answer the phone but when they did I was pleased to find out that they would be willing to neuter my dog as long as he came in muzzled and so i booked the appointment!
When the day came I brought him into the clinic with his Basket Muzzle on and they told me it wasn't good enough so I took it off and placed their cloth muzzle on him as they told me that I had to use their equipment then I put my basket muzzle on on top of that to make them feel better even though he could NEVER have bitten with the basket muzzle on. Instead of allowing me to accompany my dog into the back to get him situated (as he would not let anyone touch him but me) they put a catch pole on him and banged him into the doors and door frames while taking him into the back which made it worse on him as he became frightened and so even more aggressive. By this time I was visibly upset I wanted to take him home right then but I couldn't as they were the only vet in the city that would agree to neuter him and I thought it would help his aggression so I bit my tongue and left him to be neutered.
When the time came to pick him up I got there about 10 min early and sat down to wait. They told me that I was early and couldn't pick him up yet...I told them it was okay I was just going to sit and wait until he was ready. 15 min later they told me I had to go into the back to get my dog because they JUST injected him with the stuff to wake him up and they wouldn't go get him even with his muzzles on! I Was EXTREMELY Upset but I sloughed it off knowing I would never use their service again. He got up and walked out with me happily wagging his tail and the secretary called the vet over to see how much of a difference there was with me around as opposed to when they brought him into the back without me.
I took my dog home that day with his E-collar on and noticed that evening that his testicles looked really bad. and he was constantly coughing and wheezing! I called the spay clinic in the morning and asked them why the testicles would be shriveled up and seeping fluid and why my dog was coughing. they told me it was normal and to let it be. So I did. two days later my dog was constantly acting weird (I have had many dogs neutered before and never had a problem like this) I called the spay clinic and told them that there was something wrong and that I was going to bring my dog there for them to have their vet check what they did to him! They told me not to come! I was appalled and went anyways. When I got there the vet came out and was very kind to my dog he gave me Panalog cream and told me that the testicles were infected and that it was caused by IMPROPER SHAVING BEFORE SURGERY!!! He also told me that my dog probably was coughing because KENNEL COUGH WAS COMMON AND HE MIGHT HAVE GOTTEN THAT!
I calmly took the Panalog and left. My dog did get better after 2 weeks of using the cream but I was really upset that they would treat me so horribly and my dog even worse so I called the college of veterinary medicine and put in a complaint. The complaint stated that my dog was improperly treated and contracted Kennel Cough from the Spay Clinic.
2 weeks later I received a letter from the spay clinic telling me that I was not welcome back to their facility (Like I would ever go back after they abused my dog and admitted it by giving me prescription medication to fix the injury anyways)
I am mortified at the care my dog received. I was horrified that he could have contracted a DISEASE from their clinic and I WILL NEVER USE NOR ENCOURAGE ANYONE TO USE THEM AGAIN!
Had my dog spayed and the staff was Great my dog had no problems at all. If I had another pet to be fixed the Spay place is where we would take them in.
