Schwartz's, also known as the Montreal Hebrew Delicatessen is a delicatessen established in 1928 by Reuben Schwartz, a Jewish immigrant from Romania.
Hmmmm smokeee meet !! best smoke meet in montreal, ideal for lunch .. and to loose weight :P
You cannot come to Montreal and NOT eat here. It would be just wrong. :)
Schwartz's has no frills. The furniture's shabby, the noise level high, and the waiters are—well, trying harder to be pleasant these days. The cooks do such a good job of curing, smoking, and slicing beef brisket that even when it's 20 below zero locals line up outside to get a seat at the city's most famous deli and order a sandwich thick enough to dislocate jaws. Fodorites agree, it's worth... more
Schwartz's is Montréal's famous smoked-meat and steakhouse restaurant.
French-first language laws turned this old-line delicatessen into a linguistic mouthful, but it's still known simply... more
This deli is a place that everyone should visit at least once when in Montreal. On the plus side, you might be seated alongside or across from any number of known celebrities that visit the place. On the negative side, you don't have a lot of time to eat and enjoy your meal before you are politely escorted out due... more
I love Schwartz's! It's a staple of a Montreal must-do list. The history of deli is immediately evident from the grey stone exterior. The old time feel of the restaurant gives character to Schwartz's. The fact that you can have a meal while sitting with other people, making for an interesting meal experience! For the money, Schwartz's smoked meat is... more
My fiance wanted to go here during our trip. The fries were great. That's about all I have to say. Not really my taste.

Ca vaut quand... more

One of Montreal's great culinary institutions, this cramped, somewhat dingy deli makes the smoked meat (Montreal's version of pastrami) to which all others are compared. The queue can be horrendous on weekends, the service is impersonal at best, and you are likely to be shoehorned into a table with a gaggle of total strangers. That said, the classic meal of a smoked meat sandwich, fries, pickle... more
