Pretty Neat even without the tour
August 03, 2008We were on a Grayline tour of Ottawa and went to the Mint on our "free time". We didn't have enough time to get into one of the guided tours, but even seeing the Museum without a tour was enough to enjoy! Take a tour of the Royal Canadian Mint to see the fascinating coin-making process. The Mint not only makes coins for Canada, it actually produces coins for countries around the world. Along with currency, the mint makes medals, collector coins (which are individually inspected to assure quality!), and jewelry.

The mint has been producing Canadian coinage since 1908. Although coins in circulation are now struck at the mint in Winnipeg, Manitoba, special commemorative coins, tokens and medallions are still struck here. Take the popular and extremely interesting guided tour, offered alternately in French and English call ahead for times, as they change seasonally.
