Truly Sustainable & Alberta

I went to the River Cafe for lunch. The look and feel on the island at any time of the year is incredible. You can never go wrong when you support Alberta farmers and you eat organic or natural. They truly do it right. Thanks for being there! Keep doing what you do and hopefully over time Calgary will have a sustainable community.

If you have one meal in Calgary, it should be here. You might have a slightly better meal at, say, Mercato, but nothing touches the River Café's combo of cuisine and location. To reach the aptly named River Café, it takes a short walk through the Eau Claire Market area, then over the footbridge to pretty Prince's Island Park. On a lovely summer evening, the walk is a plus, as are the... more

River Café. Inspired by the natural surroundings of Prince's Island Park, on Bow River, this restaurant has the look of a fishing lodge. The exquisite regional Canadian cuisine includes Northwest Territories caribou, British Columbia oysters and Pacific salmon, Alberta Black Angus beef, and Alberta lamb. The wine list has earned Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence since 1997. With 24-hours... more

Amazing Experience
November 22, 2011

I had dinner at River Cafe on Friday and my experience was wonderful. Everything from the nice walk in the park to the restaurant to the nice bathrooms. Everybody was very welcoming. I had a leisurely dinner with many courses and each dish was very impressive! The flavor profile of each dish blew me away. This restaurant in very cozy and I am definitely going to recommend it to my friends and... more

Very poor service
November 11, 2011

Worst brunch experience in Calgary. We were at the restaurant for close to 2 hours and managed to only eat the appetizers from our order. What was even worse was the lack of management skills from the "so called" manager who instead of acknowledging the delay, blamed us and basically called us liars as he argues that they have a clock and our food wasn't that slow... forgive me but having a... more

We ordered the fish and game board to share. The board comes with house made crackers (the basket in the back). The plate from left top, candied trout, steelhead lox, pickled carrots. The... more

Brunch was disappointing. Ambience is nice, but service was lacklustre at best;the servers did not seem to want to be there. Menu item described as as a "frittata", little more than scrambled eggs. Somewhat overpriced.

Business Description from the Web

January 21, 2010

Set in the midst of a river park and accessible only by foot, this charming restaurant has a rustic, lodge-like decor. The cuisine capitalizes on local ingredients (most of them organic or free-range), and the menu changes seasonally as well. The wood-fired oven sends smoky, fragrant scents into the air, marking the restaurant's location and giving hints of the incredible food to come. There's... more

This small, tranquil restaurant is located in a refurbished building among the trees, lawns and wildlife of Prince\'s Island Park. Surrounded by the Bow River, the setting alone is enough to draw you to its charms. But that isn\'t all this hot spot has to offer—it features one of the best menus in the city, with wood-fired regional cuisine such as Lentil and Wild Rice Risotto and Flatbread... more
