The sushi is definitely fresh and in generous portions. The service is cheerful. The saki and tea are served piping hot and delicious. Not quite as dark as actual Japanese restaurants I've been in but very authentic feel none the less. Great bang for the buck gives this place an excellent rating.
If you want the best, fresh and flavorful fish in town then head down to Matsuya. The menu is traditional and that's the way Joe makes his sushi. His attention to detail, freshness and quality of the fish he buys really shows when you eat his sushi. It is a little bit more expensive than the other sushi places in... more
We've been going to get Joe's sushi for over 5 years. My wife introduced me to the place, and I loved it. I really noticed the quality when I went to a sumo-sumo one day for sushi. I found myself wishing i had drove for the extra 15min to just get back into the park for Joes.
The restaurant looks old, server didnt know the menu and description, food was ok, sushi didnt have a flavor. Tempura was good. Yakitori and other apetaizers werent good.
Kind the price of the quality they offer.
i wont go again....

I don't like going to the same place over and over but we are stuck on Joes sushi. The dynamite cones are addictive. The chop chop is superb and the toro devine. Been going for years and never had bad mouthful of food. Joe is an expert and very personable. This sushi house is not the place for innovative food.... more
I have been going to Matsuya over 10 years and have always had a pleasant visit. The portions are great, always fresh, and great service from everyone there. I hifhly recommend the oiler maki and the tai tataki.
outside you think, really? and even when you go in you think you are in someones house from the late seventies but just take a seat and within minutes you will know you have just stumbled upon a jewel in the park. Staff friendly, efficient with service. The food is to die for. Freshly prepared sushi with big portions, green... more
The atmosphere is dated and it's in a hole-in-the-wall location but the food (and treating customers like gold) is definitely the focus. I have frequented Matsuya for years for sit-down or take-out sushi. I have taken EVERYONE I know there. The portions of seafood are generous, SO well-prepared, and the service is faster than you can imagine. I call it... more
I love this place! I just started going here and I have returned many times. On the pricey side but I don't mind paying for it because the fish is very fresh. Way better than Sumo sumo. Treat yourself and go at least once, you will go back.
I have been going here for many years. I've tried sushi in many different cities and countries. Always find the food here fresh, consistent, and great value( particularly lunch). Anybody looking for sushi that asks gets my recommendation for this place. Decor is a little scruffy and out of date. Small negative given the superb sushi.
Most of the reviews are very true, large portions, and fresh, but this is not typical sushi. Has a ridiculous amount of rice with the rolls. The flavours are completely lost due to the over abundance of rice. While we did very much enjoy the sashimi, that is not going to save this restaurant for us. The cost was a... more
Matsuya has the best sushi I've ever had. Fresh and large portions. Highly recommended.
Food is excellent. Service is a little brusk but they get the job done. Enjoy one of the traditional Japanese tables in the back, take off your shoes and enjoy the privacy.
