I was a bit surprise when i saw the plates that were available to take. I was thinking it was a buffeet but it is a dim sum. It is hard to know what are the plates, even if you ask the waitress because they have a prononced accents in english. Overall, it was great.
Considering the good reviews, I can only think that I just chose the bad dishes. Fried rice? Egg plant? I cannot understand how come those basic dishes could be that bad. Dim sum dishes were okay but not great.
The manager had a very inappropriate and rude attitude. She said it was the way they cooked the dishes.
The only good thing here was their tea.
I've never come here for dim sum, but the dinner menu is excellent. Prices are reasonable, service is fast, and the food is among the best Chinese food I've had in Canada - try the hot and soup soup or the General Tao chicken (one dish I still miss since going vegetarian).
Big tables are available for groups. Be warned that many weddings, events, and tour groups are hosted here so I do...

Best Chinese food in Ottawa. Liked the crab soup, double ginger and onion lobsters, black pepper short ribs, garoupa filets, mushrooms and Chinese vegetables, as well as the crispy fried chicken. Great service too. This is the only Chinese restaurant we have found in Ottawa that can compare with those in Toronto and Vancouver.
Monday morning my sister and I went to what Ottawa considers the best dim sum restaurant in town. Hmmm... It wouldn't be fair to compare the Yangtze to some of the more popular dim sum places in Big City Vancouver. On this basis the Yangtze is pretty darn good!
I like that they still employ the 'old' style push cart dim sum method. The modern places don't have the time to push carts any more....

Last dinner in Ottawa on a holiday, a lot of restaurants were closed. Fortunately Yangtze was open. My group of friend ordered the dumplings and noodle soup, sweet and sour chicken, pork in pepper sauce, tofu & eggplant with garlic sauce, ma pow tofu (vegetarian) and a dinner for 3 which included: hot and sour soup, 3 pork spring rolls, yangtze fried rice, general tao chicken, a beef dish,... more
Mediocre and tired. I used to really enjoy this restaurant. Haven't been in awhile, we ordered dinner for two Szechuan. The hot and sour soup was disgusting and I really usually love this soup. It was in edible. I told the waitress and she said next time order wonton. I recommended someone try it and she kind of laughed and left the table. Spring rolls were very good. General Tao chicken was... more
Food is fresh and delicious; the Dim Sim us quite plentiful. It's a busy place on the weekend. On the weekends, you can have Dim Sum and order from the menu, which makes for a good variety of food. Not too pricey, lots of tables, great for families and large groups. We will come back again.
Tried it based on a suggestion the food was average. The ladies that we're offering the food were friendly with a lot of smiles. The waiter a younger man clearly got out of bed on the wrong side. To get water, tea, or won ton soup was a bother. I didn't much appreciate his glaring & sullen face. It was a birthday celebration that was mared. The group & I are unlikely to return here. It's nice... more
Not actually good, but alright, reliable, predictable. Not everything is made that well, but some things are alright.
Went for dim sum for a team lunch today. The food was good but the service was not. We waited quite a while before our drink order was taken. They also didn't do a good job of explaining the menu items (my coworkers have allergies). I will say that one waitress was very good about approaching us with her cart, but we felt ignored by the other two. Everyone but the one waitress and the hostess... more
Yangtze is known for being the "fancy" Chinese restaurant but I didn't find the food to be noticeably better than other Chinatown joints. With so many tables in one large room, it's not well-suited to a small gathering. It is always fun to try some Chinese dishes that are a little more authentic, and Yangtze's menu has much to offer... more
The low review for this restaurant is based on the fact that we ordered a classic Chinese dish and were served something awful instead. We started with a dumpling and pork bun. The dumpling was very good, the pork bun had too much bun and not enough pork. Then we ordered Kung Pao Chicken, which properly comes with chicken, peanuts, scallions, peppers, and a dark sauce. What we got was chicken... more
This is a restaurant more commonly known as Dimsum. This restaurant takes reservations compared to its competitor across the street. This is very useful fir groups, as we were 24. This Chinatown restaurant is a little bit on the fancier side and seems busy usually. You can always get a table though. Just returned from eating at the Yangtze in Ottawa and the food is predictably good to very good. Very traditional Chinese fare. Great Dim-sum and specialty dishes. It always seems to be packed with both Native and non-native diners which always is a great sign. The staff is pleasant and the service is timely. We always enjoy returning to try new things or old favourites.
Explored Ottawas limited Chinatown area at Somerset and Bronson. Chose to go with Yangtze as this restaurant is consistently recommended and is well established ( in business more than 30 years). The restaurant is easily recognizable as being very presentable from the exterior ( grey marble/stone) - and that is true of the large interior space as well.

This restaurant caters to a slightly better-heeled crowd. Lovely decor with a some-what banquet hall feeling (I've seen 3 weddings conducted simultaneously). Has a vast menu, many specialties, some of which are really out of this world.

It is always a good sign when you walk in a Chinese restaurant and Chinese people are in the majority. This restaurant is not formal and is meant for family or casual dinners, not date night. We had dim sum, which are served all day. I recommend the sticky rice.
We decided after work that an Easter Sunday Dim Sum adventure was in order and asked around for the best place and settled on Yangtze.

I'm a bit disappointed with my experience here. The food was not the worst that I've eaten but for sure, nothing great to write about. Quality and taste were just so-so. There wasn't much of a variety of dim sum. Maybe we came too late, around 1pm but overall the ambiance was quite lacking and the decor needed a face-lift. I don't think I'll be coming back gain.
The food was good but the restaurant was over crowed causing long delay in being serviced. Parking is on the street.
I ordered an eggplant stir fry which was ok but my friends ordered a chicken stir fry and the chicken was rubbery, low quality chicken. The type of chicken made for chicken McNuggets.
We ordered dumplings with peanut sauce and the sauce was spicy. We could have done without the spice.
If you like dim sum, look no further. Service is great and food is awesome. You can order things instead of waiting for the carts if you know something special you like. Pork and shrimp sho mai are my faves. Very busy on weekends with lots of families if you don't mind it busy and a bit noisy!
