Les instruments de la fête
Home in the city's historic Banque du Canada building transformed into a rich, modern tapestry, W Montreal is close to picturesque Old Montreal, the Montreal Museum of fine Arts and the city's world-class downtown.
The poetry is in the details: Magnificently large windows opening onto Square Victoria Park. Luxurious beds with 350 thread-count linens, goose down comforters and pillows. And...

Converted from the late Art Deco–style Banque du Canada building, the 152-room W Montréal does the usual W thing with the wacky names (the gym is called "Sweat" and the penthouse suites are dubbed "Wow" and "Extreme Wow") and the high-concept design—glowing panels and a fountain in the middle of the Living Room. Otto, the restaurant, was an instant trend when it opened with the hotel in 2004,... more
You can always count on the W to provide you with a chi-chi yet serene suite. Every imaginable amenity at the tip of your perfectly manicured pinkie. A lobby that looks like a Soho art gallery, a room that looks like a futuristic den of bliss. Big fat beds, big fat pillows, big fat smile. Who doesn’t love a hotel bar or three? Will it be Wunderbar, dahling? Under the waterfall at Bartini or go... more
So, the dirty martinis cost $20 a pop. It doesn’t get any more money than this. A lot of skin, a lot of Aqua di Parma and a lot of looks in the mirrored ceilings. Fashionistas and socialistas looking to start a scandalista. Well-groomed fellas looking to show you how close their shave is by the purple light of the sunken VIP section. As cool and chill as a passionfruit martini and just as... more
What's not to be said of this hotel... unique, comfort, style. Great staff made the trip easy as can be. Gym, spa, and restaurant. All there for my poor waking hangover. The view is not the highlight by far... looks into an office building, but hey, that's not why I stayed there. Close the curtains and it becomes quite the place to stay.
it was a great place to stay while i was in Montreal. The place is nice and quiet during the day but at night the lounge and the club in the main floor gets really good. good crowd, good music etc.
The rooms are really nice a little small but well decorated and very sexy. The shower is a clean...

This hotel is difficult to review because of all the plusses - and minuses. So first, things to love:
Location. You are right smack between Old Montreal and all that has to offer, and downtown shopping. Easy walking distance between both. It is also close to some awesome restaurants (Og, L'Original, Le Carter, Holder, to name a few.)
Public transportation...

I know this hotel well - I stayed here for nearly six months back in 2006/07. The rooms are silent, the beds exceptional, the bar a ton of fun. But I expect more, especially from my most recent (business stay).

We ended our honeymoon at the W. It's a very modern hotel in old Montreal. The check in, valet parking, and concierge services were super easy and friendly. Our room was huge! Very clean and urban, the furniture is very sleek and the layout is very minimal.
No special menu for dietary concerns is my only negative review.
The concierge...

This is a great hotel - modern and funky with great service. The rooms are uniquely designed but still very clean, comfortable and relaxing. The open concept bathroom may not work if you are travelling with someone where you want privacy but overall the design is very interesting. I would definitely stay here again.
I am glad that I chose W Montreal this time when I came back to Montreal. My camera broke last time when I stayed in Montreal due to my own fault so I was unable to take beautiful pictures of this hotel but this time I came back with a better camera and this hotel have not aged a bit... more

Loved everything about it. Great place for young people who can afford the luxury.
Lobby is loud on weekend nights with the club and lounge on-site, so not the right place if you're looking for a quiet stay.
Everything about the room was fantastic! Would definitely stay here again.
Stayed at the W last week. It was fabulous and I would definitely stay there again. The staff were all young and very friendly (bar one receptionist) and helpful. I couldn't fault it if I tried!
Business traveler here who got put in a room above the in-hotel night club. Woken up from 1-3 every night.
Liked it, but really small and really packed and really really expensive :p
Solid decent hotel. We liked it that they have rooms that can accommodate 3 gentlemen ;)
excellent service au bar, drinks delicieux et hors de l'ordinaire. beaucoup de choix
The girl was sooo maughty! And everything was included, and a special rate after I told them my horrible experience the day before. Leaving Montreal in a few hours, but a repeat whenever I come back here
The bar is the most cozy and beautiful place I ever seen for a nice 5@7. Lounge, confortable, nice cocktails and scotchs. A bit pricey but the place worth it.
One of my favorite hotels. Super modern W design with a great nightlife. The staff is very nice and the bartenders are great.
Great hotel, well decorated. The lounge area is really good at night to party and have some drinks. rooms are very sexy with a clear glass bathroom in every room. Perfect for a couples getawayNext time i go to Montreal I will make sure to stay at this hotel again.
I am at the Plateau lounge for an evening birthday party and it is gorgeous here. Spacious and beautiful. Try the $1200 bottle of Dom Perrignon.
This is not just my mainstay place to lay my head for the frequent business trips I've been taking to Montreal for the past 13 months, but it's also one of the two W Hotels (the other being W Chicago Lakeshore Drive) which I use to judge every other Starwood property by.From Karyne welcoming me as the Commercial Sales Manager and inviting me to the SPG Elite drinks (and organizing a surprise... more
Never stayed in the hotel, but used my SkySpa dollars in the spa downstairs. The facility is small, but I had a great massage and pedicure. the staff is attentive, the service was great, and I liked that it was small, as it was nice a quiet and calming.
This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. Wonderful service, clean rooms, and interesting lay-outs. Not really sure how I feel about the bathroom situation, but the waterfall shower was really nice.
Over the years I've stayed in many of W Hotels properties around the world. W Hotel Montreal is no different. Stylish (though not always practical), comfortable, and great location. Service is very personable and always delivers. One issue I had with W Montreal is that there is a nightclub/bar on the premise that is open up to 4 am every Wednesday. I can certainly appreciate a good bar scene... more
I was forced to make a last minute trip to Montreal, which I was a little stressed out about, but it ended up being an amazing vacation! My room was gorgeous, very spacious (but dark) with an open bathroom. The bathrrom had a separate shower and tub, but I only used the shower. I only had a slight issue with the rainfall shower, as I would have preferred a higher pressure, and with the... more
My husband and I travel a lot and stay at a lot of hotels. We booked what was the next to "cheapest" (at over $400.00 it's not really cheap, is it?) room they had. This is the worse W I've stayed at and I've stayed at a lot of them.First huge mistake let's just get it out of the way: from 3-5pm there is no bar open. They have 4 bars and not one of them is open. Are you kidding me? First, this is supposed to be the "W Living Room" vibe. Second, This is Montreal - a 24 hour city where people want to get a drink. What a joke - such terrible biz!It was hard... more
Plateau lounge: good, but could be better. Montreal is definitely in need of better places to get a nightcap, and this certainly misses the mark by NY standards. The music was forgettable and the bartender had no idea what vodkas they served, but otherwise, it's fine.
This hotel exceeded my expectations in many ways, most of which had to do with the great service. After one night of staying in a very petite room, we were upgraded to a VERY large and luxurious suite for the rest of our 6 night stay. the double sinks and soaking tub in the bathroom were a blessing. The bathrobes were a slice of heaven. After a few days, we found out that the W offers free... more
The staff here treats their guests amazingly. As a Diamond member, my girl friend and I were upgraded to a two-story loft! We were there during a gay pride parade day/weekend, so I think they assumed we were together. Pretty funny... we had to take turns sitting downstairs so the other could shower in the transparent shower right next to the bed upstairs. No worries, there was a lot to do... more
I was recently in Montreal for a days worth of work and decided to stay at the W as I love this hotel chain. If you've never stayed at a W, it's a boutique hotel that is part of the Starwoods chain. They're all pretty modern, chic and most importantly clean.Upon arrival I was greeted by multiple people before being checked in. When I went to check in they upgraded me to a larger room.I was... more
A very chic hotel to stay at in Montréal. As one of many boutique hotels à Montréal, the W lives up to its reputation. The room was huge and had a separate shower, bath tub, and toilet. Bonus for having 2 sinks and a HUGE mirror so that I don't have to fight to primp in the morning! Huge flat screen television that pivoted so it could face either the bed OR the "living room" area. Truthfully the hotel is the W. A very calculated experience. That's a good thing, of course. Unfortunately, they have a terrible restaurant at this W. Book a room, but stay out of the restaurant if it is still "Otto" when you arrive.
Stayed here for one night in early January. Checked in quite late on a Sunday night. Too bad the bar wasn't open, a friend had told me the bar there is great! Booked a Wonderful room through my Starwood points. The room isn't that big, but a decent size. Well-decorated. Modern & chic. Bed was really cozy & comfy. The shower in the washroom is clear glass, not much privacy - if that's what... more
I've stayed at probably 30-40 Starwood properties worldwide, but this was my first W experience. This is a hotel aimed towards young people. It is trendy and hip, with three (yes, three) bars/lounges/clubs on the premises. At night you have to pretty much flash your key card to get past the velvet ropes and into the hotel. I'm young but wasn't in a clubbing mood the weekend I visited so I didn't... more
If you're wondering what the W stands for, it stands for WICKED AWESOME!Planned a trip to Montreal for NEW YEARS '09, taking advantage of a 2 for 3 night deal. We have stayed here twice and always look forward to staying at any W, but especailly the W in Montreal. Great customer service, fantastic martinis in the lounge, modern and luxurious rooms, and great location! A stone throw's away from China town, Old Montreal and Downtown Montreal.
staying here on points for our babymoon/annimoon for 4 nights. got upgraded to the fantastic suite. interesting layout with the open bathroom to the bed and tv area. not really feeling the blue/teal floor to ceiling curtains. too ikea for me. typical modern w hotelish decor...usually i'm not into the super modern hotels but this was a fun experience. really enjoyed the big sofa/lounger/2nd bed... more
We had a great stay for 3 nights over labor day weekend. The hotel was close to everything and the staff was super friendly. Facilities were very clean and contemporary. Hotel is centrally located. Easy to get around. The hotel staff was rarely available for assistance for recommendations, assistance or directions. They were a bit snobby. It could be because we didn't speak French. Plan on being sell-suffiecent of you stay here.
It's quite a shame to give a W such a low rating, because normally I absolutely love going to the W Hotel lounges/bars for drinks but this particular location, not so much unfortunately. Went here while staying in Montreal, with a few friends to get drinks (or at least attempt to) one night at the bar. I will say, as all Ws tend to be, the place was decorate immaculately and the women's... more
The W was centrally located for my experiences in Montreal - can walk or take the Metro with ease; the rooms are contemporary and clean; and the staff are very helpful, courteous and friendly. I stayed at the W last summer and had a positive experence so I returned again this summer (and will return on my next trip to Montreal as well).
I booked the W fairly last minute, based on locations and reviews. I was a little concerned as the W in SF is a little tatty and gets mixed reviews. I needn't have worried - the W in Montreal was outstanding. I think my husband and I managed to use every service available except the spa during our quick 2 night stay - room service, DVD rental, being chauffeured in the hotel's Acura, using the... more
It would come highly, highly recommended by myself if I were to be asked. I was was at total ease because the customer service was second to non, there wasn't enough they could do for you. It was an excellent value for the money, mind you your site was close to 40% cheaper than booking through any other means. Expectations were completely met....thank you... more
Funky decor, amazing service. My brother, his fiancee, and I had an amazing stay at the W hotel last winter in Montreal. I was blown away by the amazing decor that they had from the lounge to the rooms that they had. Good thing that my brother and I had different rooms -- the showers were see through, which would've been quite awkward.Other than that, beautiful place to stay in.
We could not have been happier with the W Hotel Montreal. My wife and I went to celebrate our 30th Birthdays - It was outstanding, from the friendly greeting as we arrived, to the professional (yet young and hip) front desk staff, to the concierge staff who knew so much that you would have thought they designed the city. The location is, without a doubt, the best that we saw while there. ... more
I usually don't Yelp about hotels, but this one was cool. Not because it was a W nor because of the rooms as I found them to be a bit odd. But because of the Otto's restaurant and the Plateau lounge. So first about the rooms. Since I had convinced the guys to join me in Montreal, we doubled up in two rooms. The rooms are relatively large with nice appointments, but the bathroom is weird. There... more
The W Hotel bends over backwards twice to make you happy. wowWowWOwWOW!The W Montreal is the definition of decadence. From the decor, to the service to the locale, everything about this hotel is spectacular. The hotel is located in the smack center of downtown with a connection to the underground city.... more
I absolutely love the ambiance of the plateau lounge. That was the only part I've been to at this hotel. The drinks are a little over priced but then again you are in a part of a Hotel. You should expect it.
I just returned from a short 3 day / 2 night trip to Montreal, and of course, I stayed at the W. As usual, the desk staff was great and the concierge was friendly and helpful. Speaking of the concierge, I had a rezzy at a very popular restaurant that I needed to move at the last minute. The concierge called on my behalf and rapped with the restaurant host in French and said something about... more
the more I stay at hotels like the W - the more I am underwhelmed. The overall hotel is very nice and your room will be as you expect. I still prefer a smaller run boutique hotel. My room... more
We stayed at The W hotel in Montreal for the weekend. Loved it.We stayed in one of their funky "Mega Rooms" where the bath/shower area is open to the bedroom area.It sounds funky but it really works. Very cool operation, smooth, and enjoyable, at times it felt like they tried too hard to be cool and sophisticated, the dim "csi" like lighting was neat at first, but the emphasis on it became a little tiring after a while. The location was excellent and easy to find, we really enjoyed our stay.
W is an experience. The decor, the staff, the anything/anytime attitude make this hotel unique.
When they say there motto is whatever, whenever they mean it. Whenever I've traveled to Montreal before I have always stayed at great B&B and never considered staying in hotel. With the W Montreal I had even higher level of service as well as a bathroom that is the same size as my bedroom in SF. We stayed there for six night and would go back again! If you travel for business, want to splurge or... more
Loved it. Get a Mega room and hang at the bar on a Saturday night. Good music most of the time. They charge more for higher bandwidth so we ate all the fruit they put out reception. What is this world coming too? Great bathroom - it was bigger than most hotel rooms. Makes you want to renovate your house when you get home. Will go back for sure.
For someone who spends about 60-70 nights a year in a hotel for business, I can say without a doubt as a North America traveler that this is my favorite hotel no questions asked. The rooms are amazing. There is no place I would rather stay in Montreal. I can't describe the feeling of a nice shower after a long flight, overlooking my room and the entire city. The W hotel prides itself with impeccable service, but the Montreal location outdoes itself. It's truly a... more

I've only been here once, and I think it was a Wednesday night in the middle of winter (read: not packed with frosh - no offense), and I had a great time. I have heard mixed reviews since then - most people seem to hate it. Maybe it was the pre-drinks beforehand, or the bottle of vodka we ordered when we got there, but it made me feel like a rockstar. But really, if you've got good music,... more

As far as a W hotel goes, this one is nothing special. Still, nothing special here is pretty darned good.
