I was in/out 1 day......bar/lounge bid enough to eat and mingle. Steakhouse right next door......didn't need to leave hotel once I arrived. had everthing I needed for 1 night business trip
Overall we had a great experience during our stay at the Valhalla and we would recommend IT to our friends and will return.
Really comfortable. This is a true full service hotel. Excellent cocktail lounge. New Runway steakhouse well put together and staff is attentive but needs better quality cuts and broader menu Starbucks in lobby a bonus
Had a really great visit to Thunder Bay. Impressed with the room and location of the hotel. Staff was very quick and helpful, especially when I managed to lock us out of the room (dead bolt and all)!
The hotel was easy to get to and even though they were obviously quite busy with conferences and whatever else was going on there our check in was quick and painless. The room was decent, even though it's a bit of an older building. The pool was actually nice and warm, not great if you're swimming laps, but perfect for splashing around with the kids.
Paid $150. Room was from 1974, sole upgrade was a shower/tub surround. Dinner at Timbers was forgettable except for the 1/10th ounce ground beef in the shepherds pie. Lots of mashed potatoes everywhere. Flight crew location.
We gathered for a family wedding. Stayed 4 nights. Very comfortable. Good food. Wedding reception at Valhalla. Great food--several courses-- all terrific
I went to my home town where I was born 82 years ago. It may be the last time I see the house I was born in! I saw one of my high school teachers(1946 -50) who had just turned 100 years old, and was all there mentally and physically. I brought her a bouquet of red roses to show my respect for her. She was an excellent teacher.
staff were friendly and helpful, food was plentiful and tasty and a good price
Hotel is close to the airport and offers a free shuttle service. But the rooms are dated, dark, and smell like smoke despite they are all non smoking rooms.
Very convenient to connect to Thunder Bay Airport. Friendly staff. Hot tub was under construction, no notice posted anywhere unfortunately.
The only minor issues during my stay were a few long dark hairs in the bathroom that were not mine, noise from the bar that could be heard through the window, even five flights up, and the fact that all the equipment in the workout space was out of order. Turning on the air eliminated the noise, and the front desk staff gave me a free pass to a nearby gym, which gave me a place to work out. I... more
The location was perfect for us since it is so close to the airport. The only issue we found was that the room seemed it hasn't been used for a long time, so the smell of "old" was very strong, but as the days went by, it seemed to improve.
We wanted a airport shuttle and a nice hotel. We got what we expected
good sized room, with all the expected items, renovated and quiet, no hall noise, no aircraft noise, no street noise. If we return to Tbay we'll stay here again. Staff responded to extra pillow request but couldnt find a tooth brush as I forgot to pack mine! Our girls, 8 & 10 used the pool in the morning before we left and enjoyed it very much. Airport Shuttle service was quick and efficient... more
Room was comfortable; temperature control was good, bed was nice. My daughter slept on a cot and was pleasantly surprised that it was as comfortable as it was. Great location near the airport with a quick shuttle. Overall I would recommend this hotel.
Nice Hotel - centrally located. Staff was very helpful. Food was good. Hotel was fairly quiet. Friendly city, visiting the University.
Clean rooms, friendly staff, comfortable bed. The only thing I would change is the pillow- too hard for my taste.
My girlfriend and I made a last-minute reservation here after another hotel chain turned us away because my credit card wouldn't work. I'm so happy that I found the Valhalla Inn. It's a fantastic gem, tucked away in a quiet corner of Thunder Bay. A little too close to the airport but other than that, location is great. The place was in great shape, and very clean. Three on-site dining options... more
Not the easiest hotel to find, as the restaurant sign is also the hotel sign! The room itself had beds that sunk like quicksand, a toilet that didn't flush properly and a shower that drained so slowly that you inevitably ended up standing in your own dirty water! Even though we asked for these issues to be fixed and they sent up maintenance men, the issues were never resolved! At least they... more
Staff are very friendly....... Dog friendly and cleanliness good. Have stayed a few times as travelling East to West and back. Would recommend to stay as easy to get to close to Hwy and awesome staff
The Valhalla Inn is a quality hotel in a convenient location. The rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable. The Timbers restaurant serves great comfort food. I definitely recommend the Valhalla Inn.
We enjoyed our stay at the Valhalla Inn in a non-smoking room. Our meal in The Lounge was delicious, and we liked the ease of purchasing items for a quick breakfast before our flight at the Starbucks kiosk in the lobby. The best thing is the Inn's close proximity to the airport.
The Valhalla Inn is a good choice for a traveler who wants an airport hotel in Thunder Bay.
Loved the hotel, specially the tub. Front desk staff could have been a little friendlier, but that was a small thing, as all the other staff I ran across was super friendly. Room was beautiful and there was plenty of services should you need them.
Hotel was great, food was good. Long way the to room for seniors.
I've stayed at this hotel many times over the years and not much had changed it is getting old and needs a facelift Rooms are adequate but showing wear as does the parking lot
I was staying two nights visiting family. The hotel is conveniently right next to the airport but my room didn't have much noise from planes. The room was comfortable and clean, and the air conditioning worked great keeping the room nice and comfortable. Airport shuttle service was prompt and helpful. Excellent wifi service for laptops and mobile devices with good speed. I would have liked to... more
The front desk person was wonderful, knowledgeable and efficient. We had a short but lovely stay. Breakfast was not included but very good and not expensive.
This is a nice place, but kind of pricey for TB, with taxes over $140/night for what you get. We did have a pet and were given a room on the main floor with a patio door leading outside, so that was convenient. It was an ok room with a sunk-in floor and a fridge, spacious enough, but none of the "pet" rooms had 2 queen beds, only 1 sofabed...why? Seems a little odd. Also, the Valhalla REALLY... more
Close to airport, clean hotel, sufficient, buffet breakfast was pricey for a not very good meal
We asked for an updated room but ended up getting an old, outdated room. The decor was brutal. It was very 70's/grandma looking. It was comfortable, but the pictures are very deceiving and I did not think it was worth the money. Maybe the updated side is, but it's a gamble for what you get..
the facility was nice, conveniently located and had great amenities.
Clean but dated and in need of basic upkeep. Still clean but a little run down (like the rest of this city) and not worth the $35 we paid above and beyond the other local hotels.
old finish but clean. Old fashioned climate system which was very noisy and hard to control the temp well.
Could use some updates, but staff was friendly and it was clean.
Staff were very helpful, meal in Restaurant was very good. Rooms and hallways in need of upgrades, looking quite tired and dark.
A good stopping point although not in the downtown; no restaurants close by. Decent, 1990's modern building.
Easy to find in the dark, easy checkin, nice room.
Clean spot, friendly staff. Lots of amenities available. Easy access to restaurants and entertainment. Roll out of bed and into the airport terminal in 10 minutes.
I liked this hotel. Clean, comfortable, good swimming pool
It was our first time there, loved the convenience of being able to park our Harley in front of the patio door. Only one thing we were not fond of, is at the restaurant, it took forever to get our meals, quantity is very small.
Stay was expensive, was not asked if corporate was applicable, i guess I should of asked although I did not check as it was a bit of a rush.
Stayed here to catch an early flight out of Thunder Bay. This hotel is close by the airport and has free shuttle. Some rooms are newly renovated and nice.
Comfortable lodgings, spacious. Rooms on the first level have spacious sunken living rooms with a very comfortable work station. Extra space available to accommodate larger group or the single traveler. Friendly staff and efficient check in and check out process. Excellent menu choices, great food and fast service in the restaurant. This is a great place to stay!
Stopped in for a night with my dog (pet friendly hotel) while driving cross country. Staff was very friendly, room was clean and the lounge was great. Not sure if I would vacation here, but for a business trip or if you're travelling along the trans Canada highway looking for a decent place to stay, I recommend.
I was there for business, and had a very pleasant experience. The service in the restaurant was very good, food was as well. The boardroom was a good size and perfect for our needs. I did not stay in a room so I cant speak about that, just spent four days there for business. A very good experience.
In the last year we have stayed here three times on business. We saw on the internet that the rooms were very nice. NOT. Each time we were given a room that is tired and depressing. This week the room not only horrible it smelled. The first time we asked at the front desk why was our room not as... more
Stayed at the Valhalla in May when I was stranded in Thunder Bay overnight due to flight cancellation. Hotel is conveniently located near the airport.
All the staff at the hotel were particularly friendly and helpful, which was appreciated in the circumstances. Hotel offered a significant discount on the regular room rate given I was a distressed passenger.

The Valhalla has done a substantial amount of updating & renovating since the last time I was there. Some things didn't change though. Still great service, friendly staff, clean and quiet. Except for the sound of aircraft taking off and landing, the stay was good. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly. The complimentary access to the gym across the street is a big plus.
nice room, nicely appointed. No i wont add more to my review
hotel is really close to airport and they offer a free shuttle back and forth. facilities were clean although hotel itself is older. i like the layout of the room, however could use more outlets for charging of elctronics. also found that both the mattress and pillows were hard and could have used a mattress pad as well as a variety of pillow types.
The room I checked into had horribly loud noises coming from the outside that persisted for hours. I had to call the front desk three times over almost three hours with no resolution to the noise. I was finally granted a room change and offered the most beautiful suite which I was very happy and comfortable with. Just wish they hadn't waited until 12:30am to make that decision!
This is a large hotel and conference centre. After staying at the Super 8 Thunder Bay disaster this was truly heaven sent. Firstly, we paid $115 with CAA discount (less than what Super 8 charged). Secondly, the desk clerk was professional, friendly with a good sense of humour. Although this is not a new hotel and somewhat dated in areas,... more
Booked a night at the Valhalla Inn based on researching hotels in the area via TripAdvisor. I must say that I had a terrific room. I booked the room through Expedia and had no issues whatsoever. After reading some previous reviews we were a little nervous about staying here. What a delightful surprise to walk into a modern and appealing lobby. The front desk personnel were professional, helpful and very accommodating. We had a renovated room on the 5th Floor. It was fairly large, clean with new furniture, carpet and fixtures. It did lack a bit... more
We stayed for a friend's wedding for which the reception was also at Valhalla. Our room was nice and clean but overall the hotel was kept to hot for our liking. We had to keep our room window open so we didn't overheat, even tho the outside air temp was minus 10C.
Had to stay one night due to plane emergency landing because of electrical short. They gave me a room on the main floor that was pretty disgusting. Smelled of stale smoke, dirty carpet, very old furniture and sofabed that looked well used. Then I found black hair in the sheets. They were great, however, taking me to a second floor... more
First I will start with this silly thing... "The 80's called... they want their hotel furniture back"

We stay here regularly as a family and when on business trips. We usually stay in the ground floor rooms when our pet travels with us. If you're an American heading into Canada along Minnesota's north shore- the Valhalla Inn is a great bargain for the amount of service, amenities, and just plain atmosphere of the place. They have a dining room, pool, in-room internet, nice rooms and *great* room service :)
Directions: Right along Hwy 61/ 11-17 in Thunder Bay, hard to miss.
The Valhalla Inn is located 5 minutes from Thunder Bay International Airport and provides a comfortable stay at a fairly reasonable price. All of their rooms have Queen sizes beds, and there is a beautiful courtyard in the middle of the hotel, when you can eat, drink, and be merry.
Unique Quality: Nice pool and weight room.
Directions: Located West of Thunder Bay Expressway on Arthur St.
I have not been to Thunder Bay since 1990. I flew here for work to drive to toronto. While here I spent the night at this hotel that offered a relaxing night before a hugh snow storm. We had a brief layover here in Thunder Bay after a flight from Cuba. The Valhalla is consistently a decent place to stay but unfortunately much of the hotel is still rather dated and old. I know they are renovating and I will be happy once that is complete.
