Perhaps my favourite restaurant in Edmonton. The South location seems to be better than the West End one though the menu is the same. Their curry dishes are awesome and don't forget to order the Roti appetizer.
This is one of my favorite places. Good service, good sized portions and very tasty.
Prices a tad high but good food.
I found this restaurant has an excellent selection of vegetarian and seafood items. The decor is lovely, the staff are quick and efficient (we are never waiting for water to be refilled). We LOVE the roti kanai - so delicious. Other favorites include curry lembu, sambal bunchies and homestyle chicken. The prices are a bit high, but so far we... more
Went for a birthday lunch. WE enjoyed the food, atmosphere & quiet at the Stony Plain Road location. They serve half price satay Tue - Thu. the eggplant dish is wonderful.
I have been patronizing this restaurant for long time by taking friends along. It is in a great location right off the main thoroughfare for the city. The inside of the restaurant is very well decorated, ample space and always have customers. It’s a good sign for any restaurant business. However, a few days ago I went there and was... more
Maybe it was just a case of ordering the wrong dishes I found the food at the West End location lacking the spicy flavour one would expect in the dishes that we did order. Once our food had been served, at the same time as our spring rolls (which our waiter had forgotten). we were basically ignored for at least... more
Tropika is a chain restaurants run by different people in each city, the one we have been dining in Vancouver was great, but not so thrill for the one in Edmonton.
The server must be new, she had no knowledge for the menu or what do they have to offer ... Our meals cost $46.20 she was asking me do...

Reading all the great reviews on Urban spoon we decided to order delivery from this place. We asked for vegetarian and mentioned this word a few times and insisted that they put 'no meat' and 'no egg' in our dishes and only vegetables. When the food was delivered we discovered that there was shrimp and maybe pork or chicken in... more
they have a green bean dish, nice beans, nice and crisp, too bad they come with little tiny shrimp, probably out of a can, and too bad those green beans come with every other dish on the menu. If you are fasinated with green beans and egg plant (my goodness, egg plant seems to be in everything) and the egg... more
Tropika is one of my family’s favorite restaurants. I’ve been here for many celebrations, and will be for many more to come. The cuisine is absolutely fantastic and I’m always recommending it for other people to try. I’ve never tried anything I’ve disliked here, and don’t think I ever will! Tropika is in my opinion one of the best restaurants... more
First time at this location,
Great food and good value, the waitress was extremely helpful and knowledgable and recommended good dishes.
Will stop by when I am back in south Edmonton.
The satay sticks are fantastic. Very flavorful and well worth the price. The restaurant is a little bit older, but still pretty nice.
One the place changed owners some years ago, the quality of the food went down. I noticed they had taken the mangosteen coolers off the menu, and when I asked the server what happened it, she said, yes, we have mango juice! If you're Southeast Asian, you'll know what mangosteens are. If the people at that restaurant aren't familiar with... more
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Edmonton. The food is good and well representative of Malaysian cuisine. Make sure to try the Home Style Chicken with some Roti bread to start.
I hven't been to the Tropika for a little while but it is once ofmy favourite restaurants for Asian food. We first discovered it after a trip to Malaysia when we were feeling nostalgic for Malaysian food and went looking. This restaurant does not disappoint.
This was my second visit to Tropika, but again it was tasty and fresh!! Fair warning to anyone with a MSG allergy they use a lot!! I have a minor allergy and defiantly feel it but it is worth the 9 gallons of water I need to drink after to get the burning of my cheeks to go away!! And... more
The food is so so, the waitress had a no care attitude, will not return, next time we will go back nextdoor to Syphay!
Ate at this restaurant twice over the past month, both times experienced great food, fresh and falvoursome, true to its origins. The indonesian spring roles are amazing, with those fried peanuts encrusted in the pastry, awesome and of all of the dishes eaten the fish prepared in rendang curry was exceptionally memorable. The service was attentive although not overly effusive,... more
for years was our fav restaurant anytime we travelled to Edmonton but sadly would never eat there or recommend it again! All staff seemed to have changed & so has the food. Wanted to order appetizers, eat them & then order mains & told the waitress this but she came over multiple times interrupting us during appetizers anyway. Kitchen was... more
I was very disappointed with this restaurant. The service was so bad that our food was lukewarm by the time we got it. Since they would not make us new food, we left without eating.
Over the years that we have been to the Tropika restaurant we have never been disappointed. Beats me why we have not provided a review before. Most of the time though, we go to the one on Calgary Trail. The comments apply equally to both locations: the prices are very reasonable and the portions just right. The last time the Char... more
Any time my husband and I are in Richmond or Edmonton we make sure to stop in for a meal at Tropika. The food is always delicious and fresh. Our not to miss favourites are the Satay, Indonesian Spring Rolls, Tropika Chicken and Nasi Goreng. The only thing that would make Tropika better would be for them to reopen in... more
Tropika is a Malaysian style restaurant, which basically means lots of spicy foods, satay and coconut rice. The food is pretty good with individual dishes from around $12 - 20. Set lunches are available at $10 - 15. I highly recommend the satay lamb or beef sticks (sold in bunches of 6 and comes with peanut sauce) and any of... more
Special chicken, roti, stir fried spinach all keep us coming back again and again. This bustling place is perfect for families or a group of friends!
Went there with my wife for dinner. They have quite an extensive menu. We love their Kari Kambing (Lamb dish) & Lamb & Chicken Satays. Their Thai dishes are great too. Their deserts are quite good as well. The service was great, the food was excellent and the atmosphere was good as well. The place was quite busy and everyone... more
They are my favourite in Edmonton. Great food-could improve on customer service.
Had my 50th Birthday dinner here absolutely wonder love Malaysian cuisine highly recommended!
A group of us visited Malaysia some years ago and we had not been able to find a place that made the roti like we had it there. And then someone told us about the roti as Tropikka. Absolutely wonderful!
No problem getting seated by the friendly hostess. We are told that it can be very busy at times, so may be best to make reservations. Our server was around in no time to take our drink order, then giving us time to look though the large menu. So many things to try. We started with sharing a single bowl... more
The service was courteous, however, sporatic. Multiple requests, of different servers, finally produced coffee refills. Allergy questions were met with little knowledge from the servers. In the end, it was determined that this facility was Celiac friendly.
Typical to most Malaysian restaraunts, the decor was simple, wide open, which lended itself to a noisy dinner.
The food was presented well...

Troika is pricy but it doesn't disappoint! Everyone I know likes to eat here! I suggest the sambal bunchies, roti, deepfried chicken(not the exact name but you will know it once you see it on the menu, nasi goreng and Thai style eggplant is also delicious! I think All those will come close to $70 -told you it was pricy!
There are some good reviews about this place out there, so perhaps we hit it on a night when the "bad" chef was in the kitchen or the place has changed. This is possibly the worst Malaysian food out there. I lived in Singapore for many years, so i'm pretty confident about how it should taste and this was nothing... more
We ordered a number of dishes to share amongst us. The chicken and beef skewers were good but who could go wrong with meat on a stick? I liked the peanut sauce that accompained them. The rice is always good with the sauce of the dishes. We had a spicy beef dish, pork, spicy vegetables, and noodles. All were tasty... more
One has to be on something of a mission to seek out malaysian/thai food in Edmonton to come across this restaurant. It has a very anonymous external appearance, located on a strip-mall. Inside, the decor is fairly functional. The menu is mainly malaysian with a sprinkling of thai dishes. The food is not bad but some dishes lack authenticity. As... more
I lived in both Malaysia and Singapore for several years. So, I write this review knowing what good Malay and Sing food should taste like. Overall, food was good. The satay was world class - very authentic. The Singapore Laksa was "so so" with not enough coconut milk and too much shrimp paste/dried shrimp taste. The fish was good as... more
The food is delicious but I find it too expensive. If you go there for dinner expect to spend at least $70.00 and up. When I go to a restaurant I want to be able to try a few different dishes and be adventurous. It's hard to do that at Tropika because the dishes are a little expensive. Also, the... more
I had been here before, however everyone in our party agreed we would not be back. We had lunch on 08/14/09.
We were a party of 4 and our bill was over 60 dollars for 2 main dishes, and 2 apps, it was not a lot of food.
We started off with the Roti Chanai, a pan fried bread to...

Food can be good. This is a chain. I don't think anyone running this restaurant is actually Malaysian, even Malaysian Chineses speak a different dialect. It's the only place to have a taste of sambak or rendang in town though. Some dishes can be really greasy. If you know Malaysian food, pitch your expectations to the right level. If not,... more
Some good dishes but on the oily side...The fried chicken, "famous" eggplant, and green beans are worth trying.
I find the food really greasy! One time we ordered a dish with beans and shrimp, they only gave us 2 shrimps on that plate. Service was not so great, it took them a long time to come to the table to take the order and to deliver the meal. I wouldn't want to go there if I have better... more
Great food, fair prices. Go with a group and share.
I love tropika. The food is excellent and delicious, even if it isn't one hundred percent authentic.
Great food and a great atmosphere. I don't know a lot about malaysian food, but this was good.
Probably in my top 5. Sambal Bunchies is my fav. dish.
This restaurant is for special occasions when it doesn't matter how slow the service is (it can be quite slow here). The food is well worth the wait. Great satays.
Lots of variety and tastes great too!
Great eggplant, delivery. Nov 2007
great place to go with a bunch of people but book it's very popular
I always eat so much there since I love the spices and herbs they use in Malaysian cuisine! Hainanese Chicken is a must try. Will also go back for the red curry duck with lycee. Their curry is a perfect match with the coconut rice. Yummy!
sometimes the food quality is a lil inconsistent…but the nasi goreng rice is to die for, very flavorful
Great restaurant. food is so good and cocktail are awesome. try chi chi or tropicolada. you will love it.
Good place to go for Malaysia food. Although it leans closer to Chinese Malay it is quite authentic. Favourites include the rendang and the roti.
Tropika Malaysian Cuisine offers these services: restaurant.
Now for something a little different – Edmonton has a plethora of Asian restaurants, but Tropika is the first to focus on Malaysian cuisine. There are similarities to Thai and Vietnamese – satays and curries, and many of the seasonings and spices (lemongrass, chiles) will be familiar. But Tropika uses additional flavors like tamarind and star anise, giving another dimension to dishes you... more
