This restaurant delivers at reasonable price for lunch and dinner gas good value for as little as 20 or as much as 27. The is a 10% "auto grat" but that is more than reasonable and I add more the kina karate great. The deluxe supper includes lamb...

I love this place. I don't know why all the bad reviews. I love the moyataki and the beef ribs, chopped scallop roll is fab. Lots of great things on the menu although some things are not great. The tempura needs improvement and the teriyaki veggies are not good. But the beauty of AYCE is that if you don't like... more
Some days you feel like eating A LOT. Well, this is the place to go on one of those days. It is not really a sophisticated gourmet option, yet a reasonably good all-you-can-eat.
This is the worst sushi restaurant I have ever eaten in ever. Not only is the service unfriendly and the food unexciting, bland and stingy but they have the nerve to add a 10% tip onto the bill without your consent. To add insult to injury they add the tip before the tax so that the tax is on not... more
I've been to Toyama about 3 times so far, each time for some late night AYCE. I would say that there's good value for your money here if you're measuring the quality of the food. They don't skimp on their ingredients, their sushi and sashimi slices are a decent size. The one menu item that absolutely made me fall in love with Toyama, though, is their oyster motoyaki! YUM! I would highly... more
Bought coupon online. I liked this place before however service for today was really bad. I ordered 20 pieces dumpling only come out 6. I order 20 more pieces only 5 came. We have six hungry guys. We also order a lot of stuff and that didn't come. Food portion is also too small. The coupon states free drinks and dessert; however, it didn't say no refill. As we get second round of drinks, the... more
Made a reservation but apparently "there is no your name on the list". Waitress can't even speak proper English...
No compensation was made to us, we're just told to be put on the waiting list. It's an extremely mediocre restaurant, so we decided to get refund for our prepaid voucher instead. Last time we were there we didn't even get all of the food we ordered, not to mention the barely...

I came here two times with my friends, both experiences have been fair. It's not the best sushi in the world, however, it is cheap and decently quick for the location. Every time I go in it hasn't been busy and we were served fast. I liked their green tea ice cream. They used to have an all you can eat option, not sure if it's there anymore, however, when we did have this.....it was awesome.
Worst BC roll ever! I didn't think I could ever have bad sushi until I tried Toyama's BC roll. Everything else was decent, but overpriced for the quality. With so many other options for better value I won't be coming back.
Came here for late nite AYCE sushi. Warning - their last call is a full HOUR before closing. So if you come later than 90 minutes before closing, be sure to order very quickly.
While the food quality is pretty decent, there are several issues that prevent this place from moving up to 4 stars.
The waitress lost our order form - half our food didn't show up as a result. The problem was that we...

We came in here once before for the AYCE dinner and had an ok experience which is why we returned for the AYCE lunch.
First of all, the menu didn't match the order sheet and when I asked the server, she said the menu is old and the sheet is correct. Why not update the menu?
Second of all, not all the items we ordered were served. When the server came to check to see if we were done, we...

Having been here before, a few years ago, I was quite confident that I would still like it here! After an unproductive shopping spree on Boxing Day, we decided to have a nice lunch at Toyama.
Before asking for a table, I took a peek at their lunch AYCE menu just to make sure it's worthwhile. $12.95 per head. Oyster and scallop motoyaki was offered - a rarity in lunch AYCE menus - so, it was a...

We came in for a late night "all you can eat" session on winter solstice 2013, the service is quick and efficient just like in a typical Asian restaurant (hint: do not expect servers to be like in an Italian or French restaurant).
There was a table next to us with 10 teenagers, they sure can eat!! piles and piles of hand rolls, nigiri, and sushi rolls, plus plates of beef short ribs just...

Alas, All You Can Eat turns out to be false economy.
Toyama sushi is not that bad. But it's not good at all. I think a lot of the reviewers here are quite forgiving about the poor quality of the sushi in light of the all you can eat concept. It seems to me when you buy into AYCE, you lower your expectations for quality. The rice is over cooked and too sweet. The service is ridiculously bad and...

We frequent this place often and always get the all-you-can-eat menu.
No complaints whatsoever. Service is good, food comes out quick and fresh. Price is great. Huge selection to chose from.
Sushi is yumm and sashimi is fresh.
The Teriyaki chicken is my fave & gyoza & chicken wings & dynamite rolls...I could go on forever.
We always leave with full, satisfied bellies.
Great all you can place in downtown. Affordable and great service. Just don't go there close to closing as the quality of service and food usually drops.
Terrible sushi terrible service and when you ask for something they just walk right by and the prices are over priced for s@!%!y sushi
Some of it was good but didn't come close to sushi we get at home. We did the all you can eat but no one told us that we would be charged for not finishing our food. They pointed to some miniscule print & said this is the rule everywhere. Well maybe it's a rule in Vancouver but we've never... more
I love the variety on the menu and that they have many vegetarian options. Very good value for the price. I'll be back again because they also accept my Lyoness cash back card. Also free wifi ;)
I've been to a couple sushi places that has the all you can eat offering and the food is barely edible and the service is terrible. Not the case with Toyama. We visited mid afternoon on a Saturday. The place was just under 50% capacity. Our primary server was terrific. We did the all you can eat and the food started... more
I have been here twice: once for a la cart and once for AYCE. Both times, I found good value. For the a la cart, I had a teriyaki dish, and they made adjustments to my taste with no issue. The food was well done, and there was a lot for the price!
When I returned for AYCE, I felt there was a really good selection. The food tasted good, and the service was good. I would definitely go bad. To...

This is more of a place to go when you want AYCE instead of good quality Japanese food. The food is standard for AYCE places and it's not too hard to get to in Downtown. Went here a few times with friends and it was alright for me. Just don't have really high expectations and speak up when some of your food seems to be arriving too slowly.
Don't go hungry, food takes forever to come...if it comes at all. Ordered a ton of stuff, got a bite's worth of food. Left hungry.
Huge menu, and really good quality food. It's pretty hard to get the waitresses attention, but it's not a huge problem. Definitely recommend this place for amazing sushi!
7 of us went there for lunch on Canada day. I had the house salad with chicken teriyaki. The house salad had great value and pretty impressive quality. The chicken teriyaki however didn't stand out very much. It was delivered to the table sizzling which was awesome but the taste was pretty mediocre. Great ambiance and service though.
I haven't experienced such a bad service in a long time. I am here right now. Is been 40 minutes and I still haven't got my miso soup. Not to mention te suck I ordered which I think will take about 20 minutes longer. The food is so not worth the wait. Don't go there unless you have 3 hours... more
Arrived late in town one night and was looking for a place to eat. Decided to do take out after our long flight. The restaurant seemed a bit crowded, but the food was good. Definitely would eat there again.
The worst sushi ever. Can't believe that for the first time we left sushi's (if you can call them that) on the table and left.
Such an insult to this beautiful Japanese cuisine.
There are plenty of other sushi places in this town. DO NOT GO TO THIS ONE!
Disgusting. The sashimi deluxe has pieces of frozen fish meat. They don't resemble sashimi. The mixed seafood teriyaki is just boiled fish, squid, and mussel drenched in teriyaki sauce served on top of a bed of boiled bean sprouts. The sushi counter is filthy. The price is expensive for such disgusting food.
Just ordered two Yam Tempura rolls for take-out and when I opened the package I saw two rolls covered in fish eggs. Not as if the chef accidentally mixed up orders, but more like they didn't care enough to wipe their knife off before cutting my rolls. I'm sure for most people this wouldn't be that big of a deal, but as a vegetarian it left me pretty angry, and hungry. I painstakingly picked out... more
We were a party of two looking for something to eat after a day of travelling. This place looked okay from the outside (lots of people and looked clean). We walked in and were greeted immediately (the only good service we had that night).

What an enormous menu! They had literally everything you could dream of, and judging by the business of the place, people liked it. So many innovative veggie options, and amazing yakisoba! Atmosphere wasn't great - loud TVs playing music videos - but the food made up for it. Not cheap, but worth the quality. I'd go again!

I came here the other night because a friend of mind told me she never had all you can eat before. Which of cos I felt that was odd. The short ribs & chicken teriyaki are to die for!!
The cons of this place are:

Their AYCE sushi menu isn't too bad in my opinion. Came here for the late night AYCE with the boyfriend and one of our other friends on a Friday night. The all you can eat sushi is a good value, and everything except the main part(the sushi) was great. I'm not sure, but the salmon tasted odd, like very low quality grade. If 2.5 stars were an option, that is how I would rate Toyama.
Previous reviews pretty much sum it up - horrible Japanese karaoke music 24/7 on the TV, inattentive servers, slow service and forgotten items.

IF you can handle all you can eat sushi, go this place. But don't expect the best sushi in town. Quantity over quality.

I work close to this restaurant so have been there numerous times for lunch and dinner. Their lunch bento boxes are pretty tasty and affordable. There is only one person I know who is willing to eat here with me, and that person is neither a foodie nor on yelp - go figures. Decent prices here for all you can eat, as well as regular food menu. I like that their AYCE has different tiers during dinner, so it can start as low as $22, but go as high as $27 (an option I'd truly consider since it has black cod). Either way, the cooked food is good, with decent variety. Their sushi rolls are what you would find at most AYCE, thin with not a lot of filling. There's also a... more
Went back again and nothing has changed. "All you can eat" is an instant disqualifier for a Japanese restaurant. Few Japanese would be caught dead in a place that implied gluttony. During my numerous trips to Japan, I never once saw an "all you can eat" place, though I am sure that even in a country like Japan, there might be a niche "glutton" market.
All you can eat sushi. Not everything was awesome, but most was good.
Decent sushi, decent price. HORRIBLY SLOW impersonal service. We had to get our own plates and chopsticks from another table. Also had to ask several times for more wasabi. Not a busy night either. Probably won't come back.
Maybe the problem was that I had my heart set on Japadog (which was inexplicably closed the night I went to Toyama), but I found this place disappointing from start to finish. Just don't order the Korean styled bbq pork - my beef jerky has more moisture. If you're a fan of beef tataki, if your order is over 40 pieces, they will only give you 20 at most at once. In the past, for our amusement, we sent in four orders: 20; 40; 80; then 160. They gave us 20 :D

$30 bucks for all you can eat sushi, sashimi, robataya, and tempura is either a disaster waiting to happen or a goldmine. I vote the latter.
