not a big fan of animals in enclosures, but I do like the layout and grand scale of this zoo
At 284 hectares (702 acres) of parkland, it's one of the largest zoos in the world, with some 5,000 animals representing more than 500 species, plus an extensive botanical collection. Pavilions -- including Africa, Indomalaya, Australasia, and the Americas -- and outdoor paddocks house the plants and animals.
One popular zoo attraction is at the African Savanna project. It re-creates a...

Let me start by saying that I love this place! In fact, my family loves it so much that we got a membership, so that we can go at our heart's content. My favourite animal is the gorilla (and the monkeys). They can entertain you for hours. Today, we went to see the new tiger exhibit. It did not disappoint. My 2 year old daughter loves it here as well. It's a great place for her to run around and... more
This the place to spend your entire day, and if you have a membership go late in the day when there is less people. We had an amazing experience witnessing the wolves hauling. The automobile is for sure a way to go around.
We went during winter time and that was a BAD idea. Almost froze to death. But seeing pandas in real life was amazing. These creatures are big but gentle and cute. We went to this zoo just to specifically see these pandas because they will be going back to there motherland. Enjoyed the zoo overall even though most of the attractions are outdoors.
Came here with my girlfriend just to get away from the city... well sort of. I have to admit, the weather held up just long enough. Also, my girlfriend wanted to come here as she has never been before. The last time I was here was for a field trip from grade school (many moons ago). Anyhow, let's get to the review. As I drove into the lot, it was surprisingly busy with lots of cars in the lot.... more
We went during what is considered the off season although the zoo is open year round. It was disappointing that several of the extra attractions were closed including the trolley which we had hoped to use as we had a family member who could not walk far. When we arrived at opening time the wheelchair rental kiosk was still closed as were all of the food courts. We enjoyed the animal exhibits;... more
Be prepared to walk, this zoo is massive. All of the exhibits were fun to visit but, unfortunately, we did not get to visit all of them. Plan to spend at least a half day here if you are in Toronto!
This place is BIG. Reminds me a good deal of the Bronx Zoo which I have loved since childhood. Lots of walking, so be prepared. Got to see the baby gorilla, their newest addition to the zoo, which was also pretty cool. Nice variety of animals and if you go on a day where the weather isn't too hot, you stand a good chance of seeing all of them.
Came up from the states to spend a week in Toronto. Went to the Zoo on Labour Day after seeing some reviews about how huge and great it was and also seeing that they had 2 baby rhinos at the time. Overall, it was a good zoo. Not a great zoo. Definitely not my favorite zoo. Probably not a "must see" in my book (unless you love whatever animal currently has a baby, or if you have kids that would... more
On one brave summer Sunday, I told my husband I wanted to take our 2.5 year old daughter to the zoo. He'd been traveling a lot, so he had juuust enough parent guilt to oblige.
We arrived right at noon, and the lines to enter were pretty long. Don't let this crowd scare you, the Zoo is huge and you won't be overwhelmed by people once inside. We waited about 15 minutes to pay and upon entering...

the toronto zoo has a wide selection of cool animals, my favourite being the penguins and chameleons. My biggest concerns with the zoo come into play when talking about the employees. The staff running the food kiosks are uneducated on serious allergy concerns, and at the dairy queen booth were unable to provide a ingredients list. Majority of the staff were young kids most likely in... more
Lots of rare animals to see that are cool. Unfortunately, there is a lot of walking required. Even though some exhibits are right next to each other you have to walk all the way out and in to the next one. Particularly grueling was the extremely steep hill down to the Canadian exhibit. The Zoomobile does not run down this hill so it was tiring to get up and down in hot weather.
Great place to take our grandkids
It would attract many more to this wonderful place if the prices were lowered
It is a seasonal attraction why not lower the prices
Parking too lower these prices too.
Visited the Toronto Zoo as part of a package when we visited Toronto this past week. Wife and I agreed that we would have skipped it, even though pre-paid, if we'd have known what it is like.
a) Be prepared to WALK. I mean, serious distances. Many of the exhibits are a long walk. To see the bear, for example, you will walk literally about a mile from the 'main' zoo area, and then another mile...

You'll be excited to see some rare animals such as the snow leopard and red pandas. On the other hand, you'll walk for 3-4 hours in there and it can get tiring. There is zoomobile to transfer you from one section to another but you have to pay for it (not sure how much but it didn't encourage us to use it).
BUY TICKETS ONLINE to skip the queues (best thing we did). The zoo is enormous with...

Not impressed with the polar bear exhibit. One polar bear was smashing his head off the wall which was a little concerning. The second bear was listless. This was very worrisome for an animal lover such as myself. Honestly, I think exotic animals should be left in the wild. Won't be returning to the Toronto Zoo. The animals are prisoners and it's very tragic
Visited this zoo for the first time yesterday and I have to say that my children and I had a blast!! I really love how the location is set up!! So easy to find everything. Their are numerous washrooms and fountains. A lot of signs too so finding your way out is super easy!!
When you have small children with you these things are very very important. I love how you can access every exhibit with...

My wife, 4-year old daughter, & I enjoyed our visit earlier today.
The property is big which made exploring quite fun and personal.
The rhino, cheetah, and polar bear exhibits stood out for me.
Splash Island was a nice stop for the kid at the end of a hot day.
Also, stroller rentals are available for vacationers like us.
Had a great trip to the zoo today even despite the rain. Only negative was when it was down pouring we were in the gift shop purchasing several items and there were five people in line behind us the gentleman working was rude and more worried about shoving our items in our bag (almost forgetting some of them) because he was too busy yelling at a coworker that he wanted to leave work.
The zoo was ok. A lot of walking which is to be expected. Do not go to the Canadian exhibit if you have children or are pushing a stroller or wagon. The hill to go up is not worth seeing racoons/moose and whatnot. Today was rather hot, a lot of the animals were heaving and laying in the shade which is to be expected (not heaving part obviously)..but it was sad to see. A lot of the aquarium... more
Very disappointed with the Toronto Zoo. That place is not kept up. The asphalt in the entrance looked like it was put 25 years ago with no maintenance. The grass was 1/4 of a meter long (no exaggeration). The place looks old. With everything they collect from tickets and parking (which was $12 btw), they can allocate money for maintenance. The animals looked sad in their habitats(which were not... more
Zoo's are very rough to review. The farther the exhibits are away from each other, the more space each animal has (which is wonderful) but more for us visitors to walk. I'm giving this zoo 3 stars because of lack of direction in between exhibits. I feel like there was only one way out, and you have to follow the path all the way through before getting to the exit.
We did get to see the baby...

I've been to a lot of zoos and I know they're usually "hit and miss" when it comes to seeing the animals. On the day we went, it was mostly a miss as most of the animals were in hiding for the day. Still, we got to see a lot of them. The zoo is a tough one to walk as you back track a good bit to get to different areas. Again, no big deal, but bring comfortable walking shoes. The staff was... more
We decided to visit the Toronto Zoo while we were in Scarborough since we haven't been there before. The zoo is quite large and being a sunny day, it was enjoyable to walk through. However, the exhibits and attractions looked old and some renovations and touch ups were needed. Many of the restaurants weren't open when we went. We found that a lot of the animals were sleeping or were not in the... more
This fun zoo in eastern Toronto has a ton of animal exhibits and is great for animal lovers both young and old. The various parts of the park are grouped by geography: Australia, Eurasia, Americas, Africa, and Southeast Asia, as well as a zone just for Canada-specific animals - so you can learn about different geographies and ecosystems while you explore. The zoo is extremely large, so bring... more
They do not treat ALL their animals well here. I saw ankle chains on their elephants and wild felines pacing back and forth from anxiety and boredom. Oh and a Polar Bear is not meant to be outside in scorching summer heat!
Nice zoo within the city with wide well maintained foot paths, the spacing of the indoor spaces was perfect as we visited on a brisk day. Never got to cold and easily warmed up as we walked thru the indoor exhibit.
Rating: 3 1/2*
It's been a few years since I have been to the Toronto Zoo but the departure of the Panda Bears made it a priority for me to return.
We went on the second week of March and unfortunately the weather was still cold. Since we went early, we went straight to the Panda exhibit and we were able to captured some great photos and videos. I can't believe that 5 years have already...

I would say that it's been about 10 years since my last visit to the Toronto Zoo, so I had to go this past weekend before the giant pandas left for Calgary. It was not as busy as I expected for the end of Panda-mania during March Break; the line-up for entry was only about 6min, and the only other place that was really busy was the Tim Hortons by the gates (which was way too slow, the only... more
This zoo is crazy spread out! There will be ample walking in your day, wear your good shoes and watch out for the dive bomb geese. One tried to kill me and I'm forever scarred. But the real animals, the ones you come to see, are awesome! The exhibits and grounds were well-maintained and we saw plenty of animals in each area. I was surprised there were as many outside in the colder temperatures.... more
Went there to see lovely pandas before they leave for Calgary. The zoo is big. If you want to see all the animals, save the whole day for it. Some animals were off display in winter though (Indian rhino for example). The zoo has different events each month, you can check the schedule ahead of time and bring your kids to some of them.
Had a great time at the zoo. We were here during Thanksgiving weekend, which was also the baby pandas' 2nd birthday. So the zoo was looking pretty festive, there were pumpkin and Thanksgiving decorations everywhere, plus face painting for the pandas' bday. The zoo is beautiful, very clean and well-maintained. With lots of parking and space for picnics inside the park. We had interactions with a... more

Fall weather makes for a great zoo experience. The crowds are light and the animals are very active. Remember to come with your phone or camera battery is charged and comfortable shoes are on.
Wow. I didn't have time to plan my trip to the zoo, but it turned out better that way. I found myself exploring all the different exhibits with a childlike perspective.
The walk around the park is beautiful as you don't always feel like you're in a zoo. The facilities seem to be well maintained, and the animals here seem like their needs are being tended to.

It has pandas but not for long they will be moving to a different zoo very soon. However, we were in town to catch a view of them during our trip and it was well worth it. They are very cute. The rest of the zoo was fun too you get up closer to animals through glass wall or... more
Had to make a visit before the pandas left! If you want to see the pandas in a reasonable amount of time, the key is to go early and make a beeline for it. The line can be well upwards of 2 hours. It starts outside and snakes around... more
The Toronto zoo is beautiful and it is huge. A lot of trees surrounding the place and animals beautiful and very interactive. The only negative part is that there was 1hr wait in line to see the polar bear.
The Toronto Zoo is absolutely amazing! Coming from The Philadelphia Zoo, I have high expectations and the Toronto Zoo went above them!
First, this zoo is usually very crowded. The parking lot is filled to the brim and the line to buy tickets was long. For example, it took nearly 10 minutes to actually buy the tickets. However, since the zoo is so large, at over 600 Acres, it doesn't really...

IS THERE SUCH THING AS A 6-STAR REVIEW? UGH this is the best place ever! I can't get enough of how amazing this place is. Panda exhibit is quite fascinating because they are rentals, SO GO BEFORE... more
Pandas!!!!!!! They will only be there until March 2018. Go see them! The otter is pretty awesome too. The waterpark is legit (according to the child). There are many nice things about the zoo. Lots of new animals I haven't seen before. They have more room then most zoos. Saw a baby camel, rhino, panda, gorilla, etc. Good to see their mating. Zoo is well kept, loved their fall decorations. Checkout the city pass for huge discount on bundled top attractions.
It is a HUGE zoo! HUGE! Be prepared to trek miles when you come here. But it's not all that bad, the animals have lots of room to roam and it is a very nice, well taken care of zoo. The Toronto Zoo is a always a big win with any kids. While the adults tend to like the big animals (elephants, giraffes, etc), the kids seem to flock to the smaller ones (beaver, otter, frogs, etc). Regardless, there is enough variety for everyone. The zoo is large and there is a lot of walking, bring good shoes. Also bring... more
Great place to take the family, like being in the countryside. Lovely walks between the animals. Animals kept in lovely surroundings.
Compared to European Zoos this one has a lot of space for the animals. Great exercise. nice train, zoo mobile. Especially liked the white lions, and primates, fun to find insects and lizards too.
What's a zoo without elephants? Come on! Okay, I understand it gets too cold for the elephants in Winter, which could stretch from mid-November to mid-April in a bad year, but still. They're trying to make up for it with polar bears and pandas, but really? At least they kept the lions, rhinos, crocs, gorillas and giraffes. On the other... more

I have been visiting the Toronto Zoo for years. When the children were young, we were members but now I still go occasionally as the space is so lovely. It is a good walk and an enjoyable way to see the animals. I am now a " wanna be " grandmother so I can take my friend's baby to the... more

We went to the zoo with my husband and three children. Picked May to visit as I was hoping the crowds would be smaller since the kids were still in school. Great for kids, something to see and learn. As for an adult's perspective, it is average. Not much to do for adults. You cannot bring in snacks because they dont want you to feed the animals. Conviniently, there's vending machines and cafe inside.
The Toronto zoo is pretty pricey when you factor in parking (which isn't always close, a distance to cross street and walk to gate), admission, train cost and food/drinks however it is a great way to spend the day if your an animal lover.

We love this place. Took my daughter this year and got to see the new baby polar bear, the new baby giraffes and just had a great time . The zoo is very clean, easy to navigate and has tons of animal species. The shops are fun and we always bring home some fun things.
