I was there once and it is a normal place, nothing special
My girlfriends and I love hot house, we meet up here at least once a week!! The service is amazing and the food is delicious, the pizza is my personal fav. The winterlicious menu was great, offered a wide variety, and gave us the chance to try different things. The vegetarian dishes are to die for!!
The staff is friendly and accommodating. They welcomed my friends and I as soon as we walked in the door and seated us right away.
There are lots of menu options to choose from and they are all rich in flavor. The over sized patio is perfect for a large get together in the summer.
Delicious food and great patio in summer ,enjoy some wine...yum. Pizza..that's amore...private rooms for corporate functions...what else can you ask for..check it out...delicioso
it is not cheap, but you could skip dinner the night before and fill up on all the wonderful things being offered. the food is delicious and the live music is a nice touch too. good for a special occasion.
I've been at this restaurant for lunches and dinners with reps & clients and can always count on exceptional quality and service. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is second to none. Great venue for corporate parties or future team events. Tell your friends...... :)
Hot house cafe has great pasta, pizza and vino! The tomato basil soup warms me up on those cold winter days and the hot house penne is my favorite!

Lovely background music and a great stop for lunch or dinner. Its a little pricey but nothing shocking and you get a pretty decent portion.
Had the warm chicken salad and shared the dip appetizer and it was really great for a light meal!! I highly recommend it if you are in the area!!
This place has a great brunch. The food is unbelievable! They have jazz music to enjoy while you eat or you can sit on the patio and people watch on Front St which is also good Sunday morning fun! It's about $20 for the brunch which may seem a little pricey for breakfast but trust me its well worth it!
Hot House Cafe at the corner of Church and Front Streets specializes in pizza and pasta. Cajun Shrimp Fusilli, Grilled New Zealand Rack of Lamb and Jambalaya are some of the items on the menu.
We had a lovely dinner for four. Great location on Front St., very good service, excellent food. I had the prix fix steak ($32) and it was perfect. Our server, Caughill, was top notch.
It was Sunday afternoon and 35 members of our family came together to enjoy the Brunch at the Hot House Café. We had a large area with tables set for 6 to 8 people and people were able to get up and mingle, even though the restaurant was packed. The food selection was enormous, with salads, omelets made to order,... more
We booked a table at the Hot House for Sunday brunch with our sons, their partners, and our two grandsons (8 and 5) and were not disappointed. We were delighted to learn that the five-year-old's brunch was free of charge and that the eight-year-old would be half price. Our server was thoughtful and attentive throughout without being intrusive, and made... more
Had lunch here. Always great food and service. Will continue to go. Washrooms clean, staff attentive and food is delicous
This is now our go-to restaurant for larger family brunches as everyone (vegetarian, no dairy, no gluten, no red meat, no fermented foods, no corn) can at there. (Don't know about vegans.) The food is average to very good, with lots of variety. The staff are friendly and professional and very helpful about seating us near the buffet when we've... more
Our experience at the Hot House appears to have been better than the overall approval ratings would suggest. We went for Sunday brunch in a large extended family group comprising about 25 people, around half of which were kids. The buffet offers a wide selection of hot and cold dishes - including freshly-made omelettes and waffles, pasta and meat dishes... more
Had brunch buffet. Was awsome. Very clean spot. The food and service are spectacular. Washrooms could use an update. A lady from the kitchen staff that was bringing out a fresh refill was rather rude to the customers that were "in her way" still great place to eat
My wife and I stopped in here last night. Sat at the bar and had great drinks and conversation with the bartender Neal and some of the other staff. They were all very pleasant and inviting. Most of them are over from Ireland. Had some good wine and one of their pizzas. I can't vouch for more than that but... more
Hot House must be doing something right. It has been around for more than two decades and generally is a pretty busy spot (from the many times I've walked by).
The restaurant has an extensive menu with enough selections to satisfy virtually any taste (clearly an attraction). While heavy on Italian dishes (including plenty of pastas) there are burgers, Asian... more
What can I say? It's a buffet. A couple of decent items, and mostly c@!%!y ones. For $21+, you are better off going anywhere else and ordering from the regular menu. I ended up eating the fruits and a couple of pieces of cake because they were the only decent items--my experience got shot to hell the minute I bit... more
Went for a late lunch and overall enjoyed everything. The service was good, there was a variety of menu options and the dishes we ordered were for the most part tasty. The Moroccan chicken sammy was a bit dry but it did come with good dip that actually intended for the fries.
Server was attentive but kitchen was slow. It was quite busy. Jambalaya had just the right amount of heat and flavor. Sicilian Gnocchi was delicious. Penne alla Sambuca was delicious- the Sambuca was not overpowering but subtle with a nice pancetta bacon complement. The Lobster Tagliatelle was very strange- quite fishy and rich- the lobster tasted canned- wouldn't order it... more
We reserved a private room (the 'library') for my uncle's 90th birthday dinner. Situated in downtown Toronto, across from St Lawrence Market & close to many other attractions, I expected high prices & impersonal service. Instead we received excellent, caring service (not easy for the servers with lots of 'milling around' & changing of seats before dinner), delicious meals, a... more
We came here for dinner late on Saturday to celebrate with our good friends who had just gotten engaged. We didn't have to wait too long for a table, less than 15 minutes. My fiancé was going to order the chicken supreme but the waitress said it takes 25 minutes and we assumed if he ordered something else it would... more
I came in for a sit-down yet informal lunch after grocery shopping in the At Lawrence market area. Hot House Café did not disappoint in ambiance - being a nice, big restaurant with tables spaced nicely apart ( which is rare these days). Service was prompt and nice warm bread arrived gratis in short order.
The menu sports a variety... more
We waited and paid good money for mediocre food. There were a few larger tables but nothing a restaurant like this shouldn't be able. Disappointed
It has the best buffet brunch I have ever tried. I liked the variety of meals, the quality and taste. The dessert section was awesome with great cheesecakes. There is live music as well. The price is fair for such buffet.
I'm not a big brunch person but I am a sucker for a buffet. Most buffets are pretty lame but the brunch buffet here is good! We arrived around 10am on a Sunday and the place was already busy but we were seated promptly with no problem. Extra friendly and attentive staff. This is a very big restaurant, something, again,... more
Went here for lunch on a weekday. The service was poor and slow, and the food was pretty average. On a positive note the patio is big and the food's not crazy-expensive. I won't be back though.
BF took me here for a surprise brunch date. We made reservations the day before so we expected to get seated on time.
When we got there we did not get seated until maybe 40 mins later...paid parking might as well have been expired. The staff seems to not really know what to do about the crowd building up. There does not seem to be a good flow for those that have reservations. When we got... more
I decided to give Hot House another chance since they had the ideal location to watch the Santa Parade. I have to say their service and food has improved ten fold since I was last there.

We did a bit of shopping at the St.Lawrence Market before we headed over for breakfast. We were one of the first people to be seated and it was fast service and delicious foods! We always go to Hot House for Sunday brunch when there’s something to celebrate because the atmosphere is so cheerful.
Always lots of people so reservation is a must.
The food selection is huge. Items that stood out: quinoa salad, Korean glass noodle salad, salmon that’s not overcooked and fishy, Nova Scotia fish pie full of mushroom, warm homemade breads... more
We ordered 4 different plates of pasta and they were all swimming in a lot of oil. The bruschetta was bland.
We have been to Italy and didn't expect authentic Italian pasta but this was really off.
The service was ok.
I would not return.
Went here with a group of colleagues before a nearby meeting. The location is large and serves itself well to larger groups. Staff were friendly. Had a Caesar and a pizza. The salad was very average chain style Caesar. Expected more. Given the pasta options and downtown location I expected a more traditional Italian style crust pizza. It was instead... more
Any suggestion I have ever made of going to Hot House has always been met with eye rolls, and I'm not really sure why. It could be because of service issues- they advertise for wait staff in NOW magazine practically every week, so their turnover must be really high. I've never been to their famed Sunday brunch, but I have had numerous lunches and dinners here over the years, all of which have... more
We've been hearing about the Sunday brunch at Hot House for some time, so we finally decided to try it. For brunch we prefer buffet style rather than menu style, so it filled the bill. It is a large restaurant and was full, with people waiting to get in (we had a reservation - so should you), but the tables... more
My wife and I met an old friend here who was only free from 4:00 to 6:00, and I was a bit nervous about placing a small snack order in a glitzy place like this.
But we had great service and were made to feel comfortable ordering a few appetizers. And to boot, the appetizers (baked goat cheese and tapenade... more
My husband and 17 year old son and I had lunch here and loved it. The choices were varied and the wait staff was friendly and helpful. The food was fresh and very, very tasty. We had pizza, pasta and bruschetta and loved them all. Prices were good too. Would definitely go again.
Food was good along with the service but the management were visibly rude and intimidating to their staff. Ruined the atmosphere for me as the staff seem scared of management.
I've been to this restaurant many, many times and it always the best. Great service, food, location and reasonable prices. You can't ask for more than that. Sunday brunch is outstanding. Make a reservation well in advance.
I want to say I'm indifferent or neutral to this place, but I've been meaning to try Hot House for a while because I live in the vicinity and it always seems to be popping, especially on the patio. I eventually went here and tried their Summerlicious menu - that was my first mistake. My friend and I ordered the artichoke …
Came here for the first time for Mother's Day Sunday brunch. The place was pretty busy. They have live jazz during their Sunday brunch which added a nice touch to the ambiance of the place. Decent selection buffet items. Some items that made this buffet unique were the smoked salmon, steamed …
Really good! The lobster risotto is amazing! Probably the best I have ever had :) a pleasant environment and decent service
This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel's concierge, and we certainly appreciated it. It's in a great location downtown, walking distance from everywhere. The meals were excellent and the deserts to die for, esp. the carrot cake. Carried some out for later. Our service was terrific and the atmosphere very warm and friendly.
Italian gnocchi was excellent along with the pizza and omelet. The one item that was great was the red velvet cake. It was a bit dried out, not bad but not on the same level as the other lunch items.
This is one of my top 5 favourite restaurants in Toronto. The food is consistently excellent and the service is always amazing as well. I've come here for all kinds of occasions, simple dinner, birthdays, anniversary, used the private room for a surprise party, you name it. They are always so helpful and make sure your night goes as flawless... more
I visited Hot House because for a work lunch and was surprised to find such a large venue like this in downtown Toronto. Because of it's large size, I noticed that a lot of big groups end up here which when I visited ranged from medium size groups of professionals to families / tour groups. The prices were fair considering that the styling of the place was pretty old and traditional - more of... more
I have visited The Hot House three times in the last year and a half. Our first visit was for Sunday Brunch. Although, there was a good selection of non-typical breakfast foods on the buffet and several make-it-on-the-spot stations, we enjoyed the desserts best. Still it is a good brunch spot with an enjoyable atmosphere. However, our two visits for... more
I used to live and work in this neighbourhood which meant I ate at Hot House at least once a week because it is reliably awesome. I don't normally review local places, but I had lunch at Hot House Cafe with a friend yesterday and I cannot help but be amazed. This restaurant is not new, not trendy or hip, and could be considered a tourist trap. But this place is consistent, has excellent service, is family friendly, has good food, and a lovely patio.
When going to Toronto, I plsn my trip around going to Brunch at Hot House! I've been to many restaurants for brunch ( in Florida, in Cleveland, in Chicago) and this is by far the best brunch I have ever had! The smoked salmon is perfectly prepared, the mussels are fresh, the desserts are out of this world!.. Need I... more
A large group of us attended this restaurant as part of a wedding rehearsal dinner. All were very happy with the food and wine selection. Waiters were very attentive w/o being intrusive. The ribs I had were to die for, tender and very tasty. Would go again.
The Patio is on Wellington at the corner of Yonge ST kitty corner to the Flat Iron Building. The view was great and the food and service were first class. Our server Shannon was delightful. Went for the Sunday brunch buffet, and it was one of the best buffets that I've ever had. The service was great and prompt, and there were a variety of choices, none of which disappointed. We had much less good food for the same cost in Toronto.
We were seated inside promptly. Our order was taken soon after. It was our waitresses first day, so I forgave that she didn't ask what kind of potatoes I wanted or how I wanted my lamb cooked. We waited an extremely long time for our crab cake appetizer to come. My husband and I shared the crab cakes, and they... more
We stopped by after visiting the Buskerfest (fantastic that was too!) We were seated pretty much straight away and the member of staff was super friendly. We called into this restaurant yesterday and really enjoyed the food and the service!! The coffee was amazing, the best that I have had in years! The service was exceptional. The staff all seemed to be happy and attentive to our requirements.

My favourite. Amazing menu and everything is wonderful - tomato soup, pastas, entree salads. All affordable. Great location - across from Flat Iron building and half a block from the market.
Across the street from my office, a regular for entertaining.
When I lunch with a work group I don't usually write a review. I was here with a group and have to say it was disappointing. I ordered the grilled veggie sandwich and I'm not kidding ... it was the skimpiest veggie sandwich I've had anywhere ever....served on a large white bun which made it look even worse. The food... more

Hothouse is a very good restaurant to get together with either family or friends. The menu has a good selection, and the wine list provides a lot of variety.
I had a pleasant eggs benedict, and my friends had omelets. We had a relaxing brunch on the patio.
I attended the Hot House for a Birthday Dinner with Family on Sunday August 3, 2014. This was my first experience there. The menu had lots of options to choose from and it was reasonably priced and the portions were generous. I had the salmon with veggies of the day and mashed potatoes, AMAZING!! My family member received a complimentary... more
This restaurant continues to provide great food at a reasonable price. Everything is good but especially (and surprisingly) it has one of the best antipasto plates in the city - and its not named after an Italian!
The fish is great as well as the pastas and the salads.
A visit to this restaurant proved a great night out. We went there on Wednesday so we had choice of a la carte menu or all you can eat buffet. We chose the buffet and what a selection of food we had. We had salmon salad , roast beef with steamed veg , pasta dishes , chicken and lots more.... more
They do not deliver FYI. I have now called seven days in a row to confirm. Every day they say they "can't deliver today". It's an ok place. Food is somewhat decent. Would definitely keep it in the rotation. Just don't consider it a delivery option.
We visited the restaurant during the first week it opened. A nice outside terrace/patio. Very good salads and other entrees.Good drinks as well. Nice lively but somewhat cozy atmosphere, lots of young people but even middle aged could feel comfortable there.

Had the Curry shrimp meal which was fantastic. Excellent service. I would recommend and would return.
We came here for Summerlicious. Wow the atmosphere, the price and the food. Amaazing. The waiter was very friendly and courteous. If you havent already been, a definite must.
My other half and I have been coming here for years and I felt that I finally had to write a review because we had such a good time! We had taken the subway from the west end of town, and walked down to Hothouse. Usually we like to sit at the bar for fun, but the bar stools were packed last night (always a good sign). As we stood assessing the lack of seating, the floor manager recognized us,... more
We ordered the prosciutto pizza, organic burger, and a custom poutine. The pizza was pretty much flatbread with arugula, the burger was great, and the gravy on the poutine was unreal. We also ordered the cappricio bread and it was amazing.

Kind of indifferent to this place. The food was okay and the beer wasn't the coldest. The service was kinda slow but the atmosphere was great and with friends and a few drinks this could be a great spot for drinks. I would return but probably only for drinks.
I walked past this place one lunchtime and the patio was full to the max, so I thought it can't be bad to draw such a crowd.
I had a decent enough bowl of pasta, the Hot House Penne.
It might not be fine dining, but the portion size was huge, the sauce was tasty, and the pasta pretty well cooked.

Throughout the years Hot House has always delivered great food and great service: these are the reasons that patrons are loyal. Came here for breakfast with the family and I really enjoyed the live jazz performance that was happening. The food was far from life-changing however they had some pretty delicious omelets.

Have been here twice with large groups and can say that they can offer, consistently, average food with average service. Doesn't quite offer the authentic Italian experience for its price point.
Must admit the one good discovery is their roasted beet salad with chèvre. The goat cheese comes all warm and crusted with nuts...mmmm.
I try my best to not write reviews when I am emotionally charged - I give it 24 hours to cool off, so I can jot something halfway decent and objective. 6 months later, I am STILL cheesed so be warned, this may just turn into a long rant.

Such a fan of Hot House! Their Valentine's Day fixed menu was amazing. I tried the Sea Bass and it was beyond expectation and absolutely delicious. Their service was also quick and they have friendly staff. I have been going to Hot House for years and will continue for a very long time.
Good bruch, very extensive. You have to be a large man to take advantage of this place. On the expensive side.
Just returned from the Sunday Brunch where I took my sister to celebrate her birthday. When we were leaving my sister & I agreed we would not return for Sunday Brunch again. The food was "underwhelming" but the young lady providing service was very attentive, smiling and the reason for the 3 stars.
Mediocre food. Had dinner there, could've been better. But hey, at least the place looks nice. Don't get the lobster pasta thing.
Came here for the first time yesterday. Was extremely impressed! Their food was delicious, and their service/friendliness was amazing! Would definitely be going back! The atmosphere was incredible!
Great brunch spot! Always bring people from out of town here for a hearty Sunday brunch. The live Jazz is always nice and everyone enjoys there meals. The only problem is that they need to change up the brunch options a bit. They have been serving the same items for at least 5 years!!! Don't get me wrong I still L-O-V-E it here but would really love to see some new stuff!
Soooo I was downtown looking for food and came across this place..
A few things to highlight:
Food was average... I ordered the hot house penne... It was spicier than I thought it would be... But perhaps I'm just a Lil panzy... There was a robust amount of sausage in my pasta which was good but there was so much more meat than pasta... If rather have more than less but there needs to be a... more
Average. Not amazing, not terrible. Slooowwww service. We arrived and were greater by our waitress in training who obviously didn't know much about the menu or how to say any menu items for that matter. I went to this place 2 weeks ago and love the foods here. I ordered chicken and goat cheese ravioli, and also cheese cake for desert. I like the chicken but not ravioli. I didn't taste it at all. Cheese cake not bad but not the best to compare for others that I ate. The services are quite late. Last option when you don't have anywhere to go.
Went here for Winterlicious 2013.
Everything was just average. I wish I paid my $15 somewhere else. It was nice that we had an appetizer, main, and dessert, but the quality of food was just okay. I had crab cakes as the appetizer (which in my opinion, was the highlight of my lunch). One piece of crab cake which tasted good. I had the Neopolitan Pizza next, it was waaaaay too salty! Too salty as... more
I went here for Winterlicious 2013. The food was pretty good. My starter salad was pretty bare, but tasted good. The main was extremely filling. Good selection, fresh food, employees worked very well under pressure (full house), a little pricey but worthwhile. I suggest reserving a table ahead of time to avoid 20 minute wait time on Sunday.
After strolling the city for an hour or so looking for something new, decent, a quick bite and well priced me and my girlfriend finally gave up the "new" and went to Hot House Cafe, where she has been before. And thankfully we did so! We got a very romantic cute (half open) corner in a overall very well decorated restaurant, nice open concept but modern and warm. Service was very friendly and... more

The Hot House Cafe was picked for brunch for the VT Toronto Meeting because of it's location - downtown, walking distance to many hotels, and to the subway; and also because of the fact that it didn't request a deposit for a group (keep it inexpensive for organisers) and the price for brunch. Some of the hotels had supposedly marvelous brunches but they started at $24 dollars... this was $16.95... more
Hot House Cafe is my favourite restaurant in Toronto. Their food portions are generous, delicious, and competitively priced. Their menu selection is primarily Italian / Mediterranean, though they offer many other choices (inclduing a good selection of Vegetarian dishes).
The atmosphere is casual yet refined. Families can just as easily show up in shorts / jeans / grubs, or dress up a little... more
WooHoo! What a place!
You couldn't tell to look at me, but I'm not a very big eater (meaning I don't have a huge appetite). However, there places that I remember and places that offer such an amazing array of food that even I succumb to glutonous behavior. And only because I want to sample and taste everything! Well, it was not humanly possible here, but what a pleasurable challenge...
I thoroughly enjoyed the company at this location - as it was the final meet-up for the VTers who had traveled in to Toronto for the big meet. But, the food was also fabulous! The buffet had a waffle bar, wonderful roast beef, asian delights, lox, great breads, pastries, and many other wonderful choices!
The company was grand as I had a little more time to visit w/ spgood, LoriPori and... more
Had to wait an hour and half for Sunday brunch but worth every minute of it. I have never seen so many desserts in the one place, (and ive been on an all-inclusive in Cancun). The hot food was very tasty and the three man omlette station....mmmm.
Favorite Dish: Anything you want in it omlette or the dessert table. Have a wheel barrow handy so someone can wheel you out when you are unable to walk.
The Hothouse cafe is right downtown Toronto and has a really good selection of a wide variety of international dishes. They specialize in Pasta and pizzas but have wonderful salmon and a really good all you can eat buffet on some days. They also have an extensive Sunday brunch.
Favorite Dish: I had the buffet for $12.95 (Wednesday nights) but pretty much everything is good.
Perhaps one of the best Sunday Brunch I have ever had was at the HOT HOUSE CAFE'. They had an amazing spread with roast beef, salmon, unbelievable salads, pasta, dessert table and made-to-order omelets. I really wish I could have had a doggy bag for later as you can only eat so much. At $16.95 per person, which doesn't even include your coffee ( extra @ $1.95) it is a little pricey but it is... more
I did not get a picture of this but when we walked back to the area where we were having our meetin there was a couple of candles on the end of the bar's passbar. You could tell they had been there a LONG time as the numerous candles that had burned there melted into a large heap of white wax.
I liked the brightness of the room from the skylights. It was a grey day outside but... more

ive been to this place a two separate visits. the restaurant offers
a huge seating capacity and a variety of food dishes. the brunch
was incredible with every dish imaginable. i would recommend
this place for brunch only.
For a brunch, this place is great. They run the brunch Sunday mornings
with live jazz. Get a reservation because the place is packed.
The brunch is actually a buffet, but unlike a typical buffet the
food is fresh a hot. The omelettes are made to order and the waffles
are turned out right before your eyes. One of the waiters will
carve you fresh beef. They have huge bread, cheese and fruit... more
I've only been here for the Sunday Brunch, and it's been a while,
Such a great array of dishes to try for brunch, from custom made
ommelettes, to fresh carved roast beef.
Salads and sweets, cereals and breads.
All you could want in a very nice place. (plus live jazz trio)
