I was there once and it is a normal place, nothing special
My girlfriends and I love hot house, we meet up here at least once a week!! The service is amazing and the food is delicious, the pizza is my personal fav. The winterlicious menu was great, offered a wide variety, and gave us the chance to try different things. The vegetarian dishes are to die for!!
The staff is friendly and accommodating. They welcomed my friends and I as soon as we walked in the door and seated us right away.
There are lots of menu options to choose from and they are all rich in flavor. The over sized patio is perfect for a large get together in the summer.
Delicious food and great patio in summer ,enjoy some wine...yum. Pizza..that's amore...private rooms for corporate functions...what else can you ask for..check it out...delicioso
it is not cheap, but you could skip dinner the night before and fill up on all the wonderful things being offered. the food is delicious and the live music is a nice touch too. good for a special occasion.
I've been at this restaurant for lunches and dinners with reps & clients and can always count on exceptional quality and service. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is second to none. Great venue for corporate parties or future team events. Tell your friends...... :)
Hot house cafe has great pasta, pizza and vino! The tomato basil soup warms me up on those cold winter days and the hot house penne is my favorite!

Lovely background music and a great stop for lunch or dinner. Its a little pricey but nothing shocking and you get a pretty decent portion.
Had the warm chicken salad and shared the dip appetizer and it was really great for a light meal!! I highly recommend it if you are in the area!!
This place has a great brunch. The food is unbelievable! They have jazz music to enjoy while you eat or you can sit on the patio and people watch on Front St which is also good Sunday morning fun! It's about $20 for the brunch which may seem a little pricey for breakfast but trust me its well worth it!
Hot House Cafe at the corner of Church and Front Streets specializes in pizza and pasta. Cajun Shrimp Fusilli, Grilled New Zealand Rack of Lamb and Jambalaya are some of the items on the menu.
I decided to give Hot House another chance since they had the ideal location to watch the Santa Parade. I have to say their service and food has improved ten fold since I was last there.
The Sunday Brunch is open until 3pm and it is really delicious. The head chef gave me a tour of the buffet and told me everything that was both gluten and lactose free. This was a really nice surprise. It was... more
Any suggestion I have ever made of going to Hot House has always been met with eye rolls, and I'm not really sure why. It could be because of service issues- they advertise for wait staff in NOW magazine practically every week, so their turnover must be really high. I've never been to their famed Sunday brunch, but I have had numerous lunches and dinners here over the years, all of which have... more
I've been to this restaurant many, many times and it always the best. Great service, food, location and reasonable prices. You can't ask for more than that. Sunday brunch is outstanding. Make a reservation well in advance.
This is one of my top 5 favourite restaurants in Toronto. The food is consistently excellent and the service is always amazing as well. I've come here for all kinds of occasions, simple dinner, birthdays, anniversary, used the private room for a surprise party, you name it. They are always so helpful and make sure your night goes as flawless... more
I visited Hot House because for a work lunch and was surprised to find such a large venue like this in downtown Toronto. Because of it's large size, I noticed that a lot of big groups end up here which when I visited ranged from medium size groups of professionals to families / tour groups. The prices were fair considering that the styling of the place was pretty old and traditional - more of... more
This place offers brunch on sundays and my husband dragged my family here after eating there and let me tell you, this place is amazing! I was so stuffed after eating here but the food was totally worth every penny (littly pricey at 22$ per adult).. They offer an omelette station (reminded me of the resorts in the carribean).. although the line up for this was way too long so I let my family... more
I have visited The Hot House three times in the last year and a half. Our first visit was for Sunday Brunch. Although, there was a good selection of non-typical breakfast foods on the buffet and several make-it-on-the-spot stations, we enjoyed the desserts best. Still it is a good brunch spot with an enjoyable atmosphere. However, our two visits for... more
I used to live and work in this neighbourhood which meant I ate at Hot House at least once a week because it is reliably awesome. After moving away a few years ago, I was recently back in the 'hood and revisited the old favourite. Not only was my favourite dish (cheese capelletti) still as delicious as I remember, but... more
I don't normally review local places, but I had lunch at Hot House Cafe with a friend yesterday and I cannot help but be amazed. This restaurant is not new, not trendy or hip, and could be considered a tourist trap. But this place is consistent, has excellent service, is family friendly, has good food, and a lovely patio.
When going to Toronto, I plsn my trip around going to Brunch at Hot House! I've been to many restaurants for brunch ( in Florida, in Cleveland, in Chicago) and this is by far the best brunch I have ever had! The smoked salmon is perfectly prepared, the mussels are fresh, the desserts are out of this world!.. Need I... more
A large group of us attended this restaurant as part of a wedding rehearsal dinner. All were very happy with the food and wine selection. Waiters were very attentive w/o being intrusive. The ribs I had were to die for, tender and very tasty. Would go again.
The Patio is on Wellington at the corner of Yonge ST kitty corner to the Flat Iron Building. The view was great and the food and service were first class. Our server Shannon was delightful. She was prompt, attentive and engaging. Very helpful in assisting us with our selections of the Salmon dinner for me with extra vegetables and the... more
Went for the Sunday brunch buffet, and it was one of the best buffets that I've ever had. The service was great and prompt, and there were a variety of choices, none of which disappointed. We had much less good food for the same cost in Toronto.
We were seated inside promptly. Our order was taken soon after. It was our waitresses first day, so I forgave that she didn't ask what kind of potatoes I wanted or how I wanted my lamb cooked. We waited an extremely long time for our crab cake appetizer to come. My husband and I shared the crab cakes, and they... more
We stopped by after visiting the Buskerfest (fantastic that was too!) We were seated pretty much straight away and the member of staff was super friendly. We called into this restaurant yesterday and really enjoyed the food and the service!! The coffee was amazing, the best that I have had in years! The service was exceptional. The staff all seemed to be happy and attentive to our requirements.

Located down near Front Street this large restaurant offers very good value meals throughout the day. I met with friends and we ate at 4pm. They make some good pastas and salads. My favourite. Amazing menu and everything is wonderful - tomato soup, pastas, entree salads. All affordable. Great location - across from Flat Iron building and half a block from the market.
Across the street from my office, a regular for entertaining.
When I lunch with a work group I don't usually write a review. I was here with a group and have to say it was disappointing. I ordered the grilled veggie sandwich and I'm not kidding ... it was the skimpiest veggie sandwich I've had anywhere ever....served on a large white bun which made it look even worse. The food... more
My wife and I wanted to eat and we just turned the corner. I did not wanted to enter because the place look full but my wife wanted pizza. We drop in and we were taken immediately to a table. Hothouse is a very good restaurant to get together with either family or friends. The menu has a good selection, and the wine list provides a lot of variety.
I had a pleasant eggs benedict, and my friends had omelets. We had a relaxing brunch on the patio.
I attended the Hot House for a Birthday Dinner with Family on Sunday August 3, 2014. This was my first experience there. The menu had lots of options to choose from and it was reasonably priced and the portions were generous. I had the salmon with veggies of the day and mashed potatoes, AMAZING!! This restaurant continues to provide great food at a reasonable price. Everything is good but especially (and surprisingly) it has one of the best antipasto plates in the city - and its not named after an Italian!
The fish is great as well as the pastas and the salads.
A visit to this restaurant proved a great night out. We went there on Wednesday so we had choice of a la carte menu or all you can eat buffet. We chose the buffet and what a selection of food we had. We had salmon salad , roast beef with steamed veg , pasta dishes , chicken and lots more.... more
They do not deliver FYI. I have now called seven days in a row to confirm. Every day they say they "can't deliver today". It's an ok place. Food is somewhat decent. Would definitely keep it in the rotation. Just don't consider it a delivery option.
We visited the restaurant during the first week it opened. A nice outside terrace/patio. Very good salads and other entrees.Good drinks as well. Nice lively but somewhat cozy atmosphere, lots of young people but even middle aged could feel comfortable there.
I got the feeling that the business owners are quite enthusiastic. I can recommend the restaurant to people who... more
Enjoyed our dinner at the Hot House Café. As usual, we always seem to end up beside the fussy infant but that's the way it goes.

I recently went to Hot House for the Sunday Jazz Brunch and I'm still trying to decide if it's worth all of the hype. I go to Toronto every few years but this was the first time that I've been here.

Food was delicious (as always, without fail). Server was great, friendly and fast. We shared a mouth-watering bruschetta type appetizer... Wow! I had Lobster Tagliatelle, picture attached.
Busy place but still easy enough to visit and hold a conversation.
I'll keep coming back and referring everybody who asks re: restaurants in Toronto to come to Hot House Cafe!
I visit Toronto every summer & this was my first time eating here. My experience was awesome. I had about 5 mimosas, nachos, lemon grass shrimp & a pasta dish I can't pronounce. Everything was fresh & tasty and our server was pleasant. If you're ever in Toronto, it's a MUST to try the Hot House!
I recently visited the Hot House Cafe for the second time for their Wednesday night Buffet. The buffet has a good mix of salads, breads and main dishes. There is also a carving station for roast beef and a made to order pasta station. And then there is the amazing dessert table! The dining room is large with plenty of... more
Had the Curry shrimp meal which was fantastic. Excellent service. I would recommend and would return.
We went for Sunday brunch and everyone was happy with the quality of food and the selection on offer. There was an omelet station, standard eggs & bacon, salads, breads, cereals, pasta and prime rib. There was a jazz trio that added to the ambiance but made conversation a little challenging for the tables closest to the band.
I want to say I'm indifferent or neutral to this place, but I've been meaning to try Hot House for a while because I live in the vicinity and it always seems to be popping, especially on the patio. I eventually went here and tried their Summerlicious menu - that was my first mistake. My friend and I ordered the artichoke dip as the app, which came with three measly, slightly burnt pieces of... more
We came here for Summerlicious. Wow the atmosphere, the price and the food. Amaazing. The waiter was very friendly and courteous. If you havent already been, a definite must.
My other half and I have been coming here for years and I felt that I finally had to write a review because we had such a good time! We had taken the subway from the west end of town, and walked down to Hothouse. Usually we like to sit at the bar for fun, but the bar stools were packed last night (always a good sign). As we stood assessing the lack of seating, the floor manager recognized us,... more
We went with family members for our first visit to the Wednesday night buffet. The place was recommended by a friend that had visited many times. I have been going to Hot House Cafe for at least 10-15 years since I work in the financial district. The food in Hot House is very consistent and service is usually fast. Great location. In front of the flat iron building. Old town area. The area is nice for strolls and relaxing. This restaurant is large and it has good size patio. We came for brunch this past Sunday. Came here for the first time for Mother's Day Sunday brunch. The place was pretty busy. They have live jazz during their Sunday brunch which added a nice touch to the ambiance of the place. Decent selection buffet items. Some items that made this buffet unique were the smoked salmon, steamed mussels and the huge variety cakes. Didn't get a chance to try their cakes as I was pretty full by the... more
Really good! The lobster risotto is amazing! Probably the best I have ever had :) a pleasant environment and decent service
Great location for brunch. We were able to sit outdoors and enjoy the weather, buffet had lots of options and were able to accommodate my daughters food allergy.
Servers were attentive, meal was well priced and set in a relaxing atmosphere. Recommend going again.
Many people from our company used to frequent this place for lunch all the time. We used to be located down the street, however, a couple of years ago, we moved to a new building all the way on York St south of Union Station. So lunch time visits are unfortunately few and far between now.

only one person served me and it was the bartender so maybe saying the whole staff
was friendly was a stretch. They probably are-
As far as the food, it was alright for the price. Nice size servings and the venue itself was
nice. Good location and it stays open late. So yes, I would recommend it.
Great location, good outdoor patio. Decided to try the baked cod - prix fix menu. When the cod came out it had an odd smell. Maybe it was the potatoes with leek. but the fish didn't really taste great either - i ate half of it. Was hoping for btr. Service kinda slow.
Warm beer. Cold "warm chicken" salad. Pasta was just OK. Service was very slow, even though the restaurant was only half full and it was early evening (6pm). The waitress left our table twice in the middle of taking our orders to attend to another table. She also didn't seem to know the menu at all - she may have... more
We ordered the prosciutto pizza, organic burger, and a custom poutine. The pizza was pretty much flatbread with arugula, the burger was great, and the gravy on the poutine was unreal. We also ordered the cappricio bread and it was amazing.

Kind of indifferent to this place. The food was okay and the beer wasn't the coldest. The service was kinda slow but the atmosphere was great and with friends and a few drinks this could be a great spot for drinks. I would return but probably only for drinks.
This was my local place for years as I lived in the building above it. You would always find us here on Friday nights or any other night that we didn’t feel like cooking. I walked past this place one lunchtime and the patio was full to the max, so I thought it can't be bad to draw such a crowd.
I had a decent enough bowl of pasta, the Hot House Penne.
It might not be fine dining, but the portion size was huge, the sauce was tasty, and the pasta pretty well cooked.

Excellent food and service at affordable prices ... what's not to like about this place!!

I needed to write a review about this place as I have neglected to do so for some time and today is my catch up day. So we used to come here regularly, always enjoyed the food but had to stop due to the number of mice scurrying around the dining areas. It was disgusting.
We went to Hot House as a family with one person requiring GF for an allergy. Two people ordered Asian Chicken stir fry, one a child's pizza and one the Gf Chicken Pesto Fusilli. Everyone was very happy with the dishes ordered. Food quality was very good. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable when ordering GF. A very nice... more
Throughout the years Hot House has always delivered great food and great service: these are the reasons that patrons are loyal. HH is always busy and if you have definite plans, you are best to make a reservation. During spring and summer, good luck getting in - whether inside or on the always popular patio in this lovely neighbourhood.
I've never had a meal here that I didn't fully enjoy:... more
I took some friends here for brunch. The place is very nice and clean and the service was great. The vegetatian fritata was amazing and i am not a fan of eggs so thats a big deal.
Nice place, very friendly staff. They served us lunch even though it was past three and it was superb. We had an incredibly tasty spinach salad and the super hit and delicious pasta (gnocchi and lasagna). The food was amazing and the price was very reasonable. I surely intend to go again.
The staff from the host to out waiters and bus staff were all friendly, polite and professional. The appetizer was more than large enough to satisfy four adults. The entrees were delicious and filling. Some of our party had drinks and desserts and the verdict was great. I would recommend Hot House to anyone looking for a reasonably priced dinner with friends or family.
Plenty of vegetarian options and a good drink menu. The gnocchi con funghi was awesome and the full order of bruschetta was HUGE. Get the smoked old fashioned, it shows up in a beeker still smoking like some kind of science experiment. So good.
Came here for breakfast with the family and I really enjoyed the live jazz performance that was happening. The food was far from life-changing however they had some pretty delicious omelets.
The environment seemed a bit crowded but it wasn't uncomfortable. The service was great and our server was very helpful.
I would recommend this place for a large group of people. It would be a bit too... more
Have been here twice with large groups and can say that they can offer, consistently, average food with average service. Doesn't quite offer the authentic Italian experience for its price point.
Must admit the one good discovery is their roasted beet salad with chèvre. The goat cheese comes all warm and crusted with nuts...mmmm.
I try my best to not write reviews when I am emotionally charged - I give it 24 hours to cool off, so I can jot something halfway decent and objective. 6 months later, I am STILL cheesed so be warned, this may just turn into a long rant.
This is not the first time I've been to this place - I have been here at least 2 times before mostly on insistence of friends, far and few in between -which... more
Whenever I visit Toronto, I love to stop by the Hot House Cafe on Church Street. BRUTAL food....completely unexpected as I had been here a couple of times before and thought it was great enough to come back a 3rd time. Such a fan of Hot House! Their Valentine's Day fixed menu was amazing. I tried the Sea Bass and it was beyond expectation and absolutely delicious. Their service was also quick and they have friendly staff. I have been going to Hot House for years and will continue for a very long time.
Make a reservation at this restaurant, as it is very popular. They saved our table for us when we were stuck in traffic, which was really appreciated! The service is excellent and so is the food. Good bruch, very extensive. You have to be a large man to take advantage of this place. On the expensive side.
Just returned from the Sunday Brunch where I took my sister to celebrate her birthday. When we were leaving my sister & I agreed we would not return for Sunday Brunch again. The food was "underwhelming" but the young lady providing service was very attentive, smiling and the reason for the 3 stars.
Great food ... Great service..
My son chose this place for his birthday celebration. I was pleased !!
The food was quite tasty and I especially enjoyed the pasta that my better half ordered. My salad was fresh and very flavorful as well. The atmosphere was very friendly and the place was clean. I would recommend this place!
By the way our server was very friendly very able..
Mediocre food. Had dinner there, could've been better. But hey, at least the place looks nice. Don't get the lobster pasta thing.
Came here for the first time yesterday. Was extremely impressed! Their food was delicious, and their service/friendliness was amazing! Would definitely be going back! The atmosphere was incredible!
Great brunch spot! Always bring people from out of town here for a hearty Sunday brunch. The live Jazz is always nice and everyone enjoys there meals. The only problem is that they need to change up the brunch options a bit. They have been serving the same items for at least 5 years!!! Don't get me wrong I still L-O-V-E it here but would really love to see some new stuff!
Soooo I was downtown looking for food and came across this place..
A few things to highlight:
Food was average... I ordered the hot house penne... It was spicier than I thought it would be... But perhaps I'm just a Lil panzy... There was a robust amount of sausage in my pasta which was good but there was so much more meat than pasta... If rather have more than less but there needs to be a... more
Average. Not amazing, not terrible. Slooowwww service. We arrived and were greater by our waitress in training who obviously didn't know much about the menu or how to say any menu items for that matter. We both ordered a salad to start, but our main meal came first? Followed by the salad side by side with our meal. A bit confusing. I had to find another waitstaff to order my drinks. I'm sure... more
They have Blanche de Chambly on tap which warrants a mental note to come back for at some point in time.
As for what I've had, it's Coffee and Tiramisu. Turns out it isn't a bad spot for some weekend afternoon tea, as odd as it may sound.
The first time I came here was with my grade 8 class after we visited the Hockey Hall of Fame. I remember the good times we had here and years later I returned a few more times.
On one occasion, I had the Penne alla Sambuca, which was really scrumptious. The portion size was quite large and satisfying. It came with bacon, chicken, vegetables and a sauce similar to a penne a la vodka cream... more
The first time I came here was for sunday brunch with the famjams, and a whole lot of others. It was an okay experience.
They have the awesome buffett which was plentiful, but all the food tasted a bit bland to me.

I went to this place 2 weeks ago and love the foods here. I ordered chicken and goat cheese ravioli, and also cheese cake for desert. I like the chicken but not ravioli. I didn't taste it at all. Cheese cake not bad but not the best to compare for others that I ate. The services are quite late. Last option when you don't have anywhere to go.
Went here for Winterlicious 2013.
Everything was just average. I wish I paid my $15 somewhere else. It was nice that we had an appetizer, main, and dessert, but the quality of food was just okay. I had crab cakes as the appetizer (which in my opinion, was the highlight of my lunch). One piece of crab cake which tasted good. I had the Neopolitan Pizza next, it was waaaaay too salty! Too salty as... more
I went here for Winterlicious 2013. The food was pretty good. My starter salad was pretty bare, but tasted good. The main was extremely filling. Good selection, fresh food, employees worked very well under pressure (full house), a little pricey but worthwhile. I suggest reserving a table ahead of time to avoid 20 minute wait time on Sunday.
After strolling the city for an hour or so looking for something new, decent, a quick bite and well priced me and my girlfriend finally gave up the "new" and went to Hot House Cafe, where she has been before. The Hot House Cafe was picked for brunch for the VT Toronto Meeting because of it's location - downtown, walking distance to many hotels, and to the subway; and also because of the fact that it didn't request a deposit for a group (keep it inexpensive for organisers) and the price for brunch. Some of the hotels had supposedly marvelous brunches but they started at $24 dollars... this was $16.95... more
Hot House Cafe is my favourite restaurant in Toronto. Their food portions are generous, delicious, and competitively priced. Their menu selection is primarily Italian / Mediterranean, though they offer many other choices (inclduing a good selection of Vegetarian dishes).

WooHoo! What a place!
You couldn't tell to look at me, but I'm not a very big eater (meaning I don't have a huge appetite). However, there places that I remember and places that offer such an amazing array of food that even I succumb to glutonous behavior. And only because I want to sample and taste everything! Well, it was not humanly possible here, but what a pleasurable challenge...
I thoroughly enjoyed the company at this location - as it was the final meet-up for the VTers who had traveled in to Toronto for the big meet. But, the food was also fabulous! The buffet had a waffle bar, wonderful roast beef, asian delights, lox, great breads, pastries, and many other wonderful choices!
The company was grand as I had a little more time to visit w/ spgood, LoriPori and... more
Had to wait an hour and half for Sunday brunch but worth every minute of it. I have never seen so many desserts in the one place, (and ive been on an all-inclusive in Cancun). The hot food was very tasty and the three man omlette station....mmmm.
Favorite Dish: Anything you want in it omlette or the dessert table. Have a wheel barrow handy so someone can wheel you out when you are unable to walk.
The Hothouse cafe is right downtown Toronto and has a really good selection of a wide variety of international dishes. They specialize in Pasta and pizzas but have wonderful salmon and a really good all you can eat buffet on some days. They also have an extensive Sunday brunch.
Favorite Dish: I had the buffet for $12.95 (Wednesday nights) but pretty much everything is good.
Perhaps one of the best Sunday Brunch I have ever had was at the HOT HOUSE CAFE'. They had an amazing spread with roast beef, salmon, unbelievable salads, pasta, dessert table and made-to-order omelets. I really wish I could have had a doggy bag for later as you can only eat so much. At $16.95 per person, which doesn't even include your coffee ( extra @ $1.95) it is a little pricey but it is... more
I did not get a picture of this but when we walked back to the area where we were having our meetin there was a couple of candles on the end of the bar's passbar. You could tell they had been there a LONG time as the numerous candles that had burned there melted into a large heap of white wax.
I liked the brightness of the room from the skylights. It was a grey day outside but... more

a huge seating capacity and a variety of food dishes. the brunch
was incredible with every dish imaginable. i would recommend
this place for brunch only.
For a brunch, this place is great. They run the brunch Sunday mornings
with live jazz. Get a reservation because the place is packed.
The brunch is actually a buffet, but unlike a typical buffet the
food is fresh a hot. The omelettes are made to order and the waffles
are turned out right before your eyes. One of the waiters will
carve you fresh beef. They have huge bread, cheese and fruit... more
I've only been here for the Sunday Brunch, and it's been a while,
Such a great array of dishes to try for brunch, from custom made
ommelettes, to fresh carved roast beef.
Salads and sweets, cereals and breads.
All you could want in a very nice place. (plus live jazz trio)
