When trying to think of words to use to describe the service and food provided by Thyme & Again at my wedding this past weekend at the museum of Nature there is only one that comes to mind..... AMAZING! They handled everything perfectly from start to finish. Every aspect of the service went off without a hitch. Our wedding required a good deal of room changes and set-up between ceremony,... more
My daughter and I tried to dine in this Cafe 3 days ago but the staff was rude, disrespectful and tried to sell me an entire key lime pie even though I asked for just a slice. My family and I will never return here. There are plenty of other places to eat on Wellington Street.
My daughter and I have been patrons of Thyme & Again for many years. They catered my sister's wedding. We routinely order their cakes for celebrations. And we've tried so many items on the menu that I really feel I can give a thorough, experienced review of this establishment. So here's the dirt: I love this place ... except for the hot entrees.I love their soup. Sometimes it can be a little bit... more
I've had their desserts twice now.. Once because a wonderful lady brought them to me home as a wonderful hostess gift and the second time because I just had to have those a,axing squares again! I'm ashamed to admit how many of those gigantic calorie-full desserts I've eaten in a day!
Went here for lunch a few days ago with my mother. It was fairly busy but they got through people quickly so there wasn't much wait. Some of the employees were quite friendly while others seemed distant due to the volume of customers.
I have bought lunch at Thyme & Again several times since moving to the neighbourhood, and about half the time when I get to the cash and take a closer look at what was served to me at the counter before paying for it, it is old. Wilted lettuce, translucent fruit, nasty salad dressing... On top of that your sandwich is always served to you with bare hands that squish down the bread as they wrap... more
The food has been ok but unfortunately the service has taken a significant turn. I can't comprehend a scenario where the staff, on a Sunday morning at 10:04AM, with absolutely no one in the store, tell my wife that her order of six sandwiches should have been called in ahead as a large order. Note: the sandwiches are pre-made and took all of one minute to pull from the fridge. The tone was smug... more
Watered down soup is my number one pet peeve. It is really hit or miss. Usually in the evening the staff have it watered down so much that it is a waste of money to purchase it. I understand days are long but I am paying for the soup...not having enough to last the day is not my problem. I expect fresh food.
I was there with friends enjoying an afternoon tea. The cakes were so pretty looking, and the price was reasonable (not the cheapest). By the way, the cakes tasted very good also.
For those who were not there before, there was a lot more seating area upstairs. Downstairs were very busy, but upstairs were nice and quiet.
I stopped by for lunch one afternoon and had a chicken sandwich with a cup of butternut squash soup- both items were delicious! The staff were very courteous and friendly. I had some dietary questions- they went above and beyond by preparing my sandwich on gluten free bread.
I also picked up some frozen savouries, a cheesecake and some local... more
We had lunch here on the recommendation of friends. I had a chicken sandwhich and salad. My wife had a beet and apple soup with her sandwich. We both enjoyed the food immensely. Cost of the food was reasonable. I also bought a loaf of bread from their bakery which has turned out to be delicious. You have to park... more
Everytime i've gone its been MARVELLOUS! Everything is well seasoned and completely delicious! Wonderful for lunch with soup and sandwiches! Great for snack with their baked goods counter and everything is treat! And you can always buy things to bring home too! Mmmmm... wish i lived closer, but its a good thing i don't or id be broke!
This place used to be good. Now it is more of a factory offering the same selections. The bread was stale, the soup cold, the service indifferent and the prices were way too high. They are riding on their earlier glory but there are FAR better places to eat then this place.
Their food is definitely overated and mediocre at best. The only thing i recommend is the soups which are very good. Don't even bother with the sandwhiches which are a joke, only bread and skimpy portion of filling..no sauce, no veggies, no thanks. The desserts in the other hand are not bad at all. The people in the cashier are always super friendly, not the ones serving food though. I would go... more
I often stop here to pick up cakes or bread but I have not had any luck with the take-out meals. The sandwiches are good although a little pricey but the other items available for take-out, like the precooked chicken or salmon are not nearly as tasty and I have been disappointed in the past. Nice ambiance however if you... more
Environment is pleasant. Scones are excellent.
Other food o.k. Desserts are much too expensive for quality.Butter tart is made of dough and very little filing.
Do not go for expresso coffee. Machine, and staff have no idea what ristretto expresso, short or long expresso are all the same. Maybe training staff would be a good idea. Making and serving expresso... more
An excellent selection of take-out with a few tables if you want to eat in - this caterer has offered high-end clients both superb food and outstanding service for several years - a reliable and interesting place to pick up main, supplemental or dessert courses when suddenly needed or just to add interest to a routine meal at home; also... more
I dropped by Thyme and Again yesterday after reading these reviews. I'd been years ago it was a super quick stop for a coffee and I didn't get the full experience.
This may have been the best idea I've had all week. Not only did I get to enjoy the wonderful Wellington Village atmosphere from their patio with my bff, I had the best iced chai of my life and an absolutely scrumptious rhubarb... more
This charming place has good food, reasonable prices for the quality and is the mainstay of many "too tired to cook" family meals. There are soups, salads, mains, appetizers and great baked goods that are fresh and many flash frozen for trips to the cottage. Art-is-in bread is also available at this location. I personally recommend the Chocolate poppyseed grandmarnier... more
I was quite disappointed with Thyme & Again. I dropped in for lunch and ordered two servings of the filet mignon with sesame sauce and a side for each: parsnips and carrots and basmati rice. It took approximately 15 minutes while I waited at the counter for the waitress to retrieve the filet, sauce and side from the fridge, plate it, and warm it up in the microwave (yup you heard right !). The... more
Amazing soups and sandwiches and other tasty entrees - incredible desserts (for Ottawa). Thyme and Again puts on an incredibly tasty lunch with great coffee options for 10-20$. They have a small eat in area, appropriate for small groups. They also do a great catering service, although expensive.
Consistently good quality, service and value for money. Nice atmosphere in the cafe downstairs but a bit lacking in vibe upstairs in the gallery section, but nice and quiet if you wan to get away from the hustle and bustle downstairs. Always popular but prompt service keeps things moving along. Also a great opportunity for some impulse buys...perfect for hostess... more
I have been dining here for over ten years, both solo, and with others, because I enjoy their soup and salad lunches, all made on the premises, and beautifully prepared. The quality of everything they serve is superb. The atmosphere is pleasant and sharing tables is frequently required because the dining area is small. If you're looking for privacy, this... more
I have been a patron of Thyme and Again since its beginnings in Hintonburg, but now really only go there when I can find nothing else in the neighbourhood. Occasionally, there will be some stellar item (well I remember the passion fruit sweet potato salad of several years ago), but overall the food is nothing special and the staff always... more
Usually have a couple of gluten free baked goodies available (a very rich chocolate cake, addictive almond chocolate chip scones, double chocolate cookies).
This fabulous west-end catering shop in a favourite with people city-wide. Come for lunch, take-away dinner and order the food for your next party. This is worth a special trip!
I have experienced all aspects of Thyme and Again's offerings: catering, coffee and dessert, and take home food. It's all really good - I especially LOVE the tourtieres. We have a 'tourtiere-off' on Christmas Eve with friends and Thyme and Again tourtieres consistently beat out places like les Fougeres and Red Apron.
The hors d'oeuvres are delicious and artistically presented.... more
When I lived in Ottawa, I would frequent Thyme and Again. I was always impressed by the quality of the ingredients and the taste of their food. You are definitely paying for this luxury, but it is worth to give a go as a treat. The food is somewhat adventurous, so its not for the meat and potatoes type of... more
Ordered thanksgiving dinner from here. Everything from the turkey confit to the pear gravy to the pumpkin cheesecake was outstanding. Highly highly recommend for a take home catered meal.
I too am a local and have frequented this place a few times but have found, like all businesses nowadays, it can have some of the worst service imaginable. A simple "I'll be with you in a moment" can go along way but instead the usual reaction is to just ignore those in line. I their defense, the staff never... more
I picked up a sandwich and a fruit salad for dinner yesterday for about $12. It was more expensive than heading to other fast-food options in the neighbourhood but well worth it. I was pleasantly surprised with the selection at 6:30pm and the prompt service.
A decent place for a simple lunch. But when it comes to catering large events (such as my wedding) these guys get 5 stars. Delicious food, impeccable service, miraculous delivery of perfectly cooked food to over 100 guests (including gelato that they managed to serve in tact despite 32c heat). Highly recommend.
Love the food. Personal favorites include Coconut cake and cheddar short bread cookies. Yum.
I first heard about Thyme & Again from a professor of mine that brought cookies to class. Their chocolate and pecan cookies are very good, but their sour cherry Linzer cookies are, to this day, my absolute favourite. I have never had a Linzer cookie as good as theirs! They are baked fresh, never too sweet or burnt. Along with cookies, cakes, tarts, and other desserts, they also have a selection... more
I have always been tempted to go into Thyme and Again by the waft of a ginger cookie smell that is always there when I walk by. I wasn't disappointed when I went in and saw their selection of baking. Once I saw the zuchini walnut cookies, I forgot about ginger...I love anything with zucchini!
I also picked up a loaf of their oat and honey organic sourdough bread, which proved to be delicious... more
based on the reviews I was expecting something else, but the food for take away was really dissapointing, maybe its great when you dine there, but for take away, the sandwhich was dried, old and with almost nothing inside, just a tiny piece of salmon and cream, it was almost just a bun. The soup was actually tasty but not better... more
Speaking as a local, I like Thyme and Again for their sandwiches and quesadillas, so their lunches. And little else. Their takeaway is uninspirinf and their catering is way overpriced. Go for lunch, but don't take the whole kitchen home with you.
What a charming place for a nice lunch! We enjoyed a nice soup, sandwich, salad, scones and tea at Thyme and Again! It was a beautiful little place, very charming deco. The location was very nice: after the great meal, there was a whole bunch of stores and boutiques all along the street. We however had a very difficult time... more
My wife, baby boy and I were on Wellington for a baby sale, and we were hungry. We had been on Wellington a couple weeks before for supper at the Wellington Gastropub and we noticed a bunch of new restaurants to try. So we took a walk down Wellington and found Thyme & Again. Well it was great and the... more
Thyme & Again catered the rehearsal party for our wedding. It was excellent and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The food and the service were excellent and I would highly recommend them.
Thyme and Again is known for catering, but they have a take home food shop and retail shop that caterers to all the 'foodies' in the city. The shop is in a great location, trendy wellington west. Good luck with parking- street only.
This is my favorite place to go for lunch, pick up dinner and enjoy a cup of... more
Thyme and Again is a gourmet cafe and catering shop located in the westboro neighborhood of Ottawa. Read: yummy mummies and the ladies that do lunch come here often for their gastronomical fix. I'm not the former or the latter but I used to enjoy hitting this place up when I used to live in Ottawa for their baked goods (great selection) and chance to catch up with friends. They also have lovely... more
Go for the catering. A little pricey but well worth it!
cute place, great food, menu changes almost everyday..
