Marlborough Hotel | Weddings | Banquets | Winnipeg's Largest Conference Centre
The rate was very good. Great Winnipeg location near everything downtown and walking distance to several pubs and restaurants. lots of vehicle traffic and in the area and significant pedestrian traffic. The bed was comfy, room was clean and bright, pool area was fun, bar was good, breakfast was spectacular. This is not a super modern hotel, but amenities were more than adequate, cleanliness met my expectations and again, can't beat that portage and main proximity!
My husband and i have stayed here numerous times for a weekend away in a non smoking room. Our room has always been clean, beds comfortable and our room quiet. The lobby is fancy, it is a beautiful building. The continental breakfast is the best I have ever had at any hotel. I park at the lot across the street and have never had any issues. I was nervous about it because it is not a great neighbourhood but no issues at all and I have stayed here half a dozen times.
Hotel staff went out of their way to make us comfortable and relaxed. Very helpful with directions and activities.
We checked in late at night and only stayed one night, they upgraded our room to an amazing suite because it was empty and even threw in complimentary breakfast! There was a very nice security Gaurd who took great care of us (it was late on a busy Friday night when the bums were out) and every employee we came in contact with was extremely nice, welcoming and helpful. They are what made the stay so wonderful. The only negative things I could say is about the general population that lives outside the hotel and that they need to update the bathroom, the water pressure wasn't great in the shower and the hot water was limited in the morning, probably when everyone else was showering too. But every inch of the hotel was clean and well cared for! I will absolutely be staying again, even on my way back through in about a week (normally I always stay at different hotels to enjoy learning about the different places but you simply can't go wrong with the price, the service, and the cheap parking building that made me feel safe about all my belongings in my truck
Value pricing, so close to the MTS and free breakfast, what more do you want.
Easy check in/out. Our room was upgraded. Quiet, comfortable room.
Broken door handle on first room, sewer gas smell in the second, hair in the shower on the third. I lived with the third as i was tired of changing. Great breakfast though
It's a lovely old building and a little worn around the edges but I enjoyed my stay. My fellow 'guests' were 'interesting' and a little challenging but I had no problems other than having to listen them murdering great songs at the karaoke in the bar! The hotel was fine, a clean comfortable room and an excellent complimentary breakfast in the lovely restaurant. The staff were polite, friendly... more
not a very nice place to stay the towels had stains on them and did not even smell clean, staff was ok, elevator feels like an carnavial ride, the breakfast was ok
The hotel is in a historic building, yet they have terrible reception staff. They charged the credit card twice, as if I checked in again after I checked out! This should be sorted out after I left the city. Also one of the two elevators is always out of order and I cannot see why. A lot of people keep soliciting in front of the hotel all the time.
I enjoyed my stay at Marlborough, the staff were friendly, bed was comfortable and the place has alot of character. not recommended if you're looking for posh, but much more interesting than sterile hotel rooms.
Nice building but rooms were in desperate need of renovations! As is " most" of the hotel! Lobby was nice thought as was the front desk staff
The hotel is old and historic, but could have been better appointed - furnishings way outdated. The carpets were dirty, bed was worn out, the room smelled of room freshener..... could not tell what smell they were trying to cover up. The heating/cooling was not working. Bathroom had chipped tub, uneven water temperatures. Very noisy, could hear the people next door, people above and in the... more
Overall feels like a motel, facilities are old and outdated, the room was clean enough. However I'd rather pay a little more and stay in better facilities in the area. The hotel absolutely needs to be upgraded. The staff however are courteous and nice, and the free breakfast was much appreciated and offset the otherwise poor experience at the hotel.
On the average , the hotel needs a lot of renovation.
Was okay, just needed somewhere to sleep and was close to the MTS centre, wouldn't want to stay there longer than 1 night it's a very old building, 1 elevator was down, and we were woken up by someone yelling and banging in the hallway at 4am, called down to the staff to come deal with the person, they did nothing.
I spent two nights at the Marlborough and was awakened both nights by noise in the hallways. The first night was partiers in the hallways and the second was people fighting. SO loud and for hours. The carpets were filthy and there was food on the floor in the restaurant - which was also covered in filthy carpet. The place needs some serious work to get it up to an acceptable level for me to... more
Staff were helpful and efficient at check-in. Breakfast was nice.
Reviewing the Marlborough is complicated. A bit rough around the edges, yes, location not prime, sure, but all that is unimportant. The Marlborough is a venerable 1914 hotel at the vanguard of a revitalization of downtown Winnipeg; the owners and staff are doing an amazing, practically heroic job helping to reclaim the urban core. Admittedly, this is not for everyone. It's not for whiners who... more
Felt like Jack Torrance(Jack Nicholson) in the Overlook Hotel - The Shining(1980) - a film based on Stephen King's novel of same name. The pros: the free breakfast, location(downtown core) and staff. Terrible for a week period. Ok for one or two days.
The staff was rude, the public parking was very expensive and the overall feel of the place was grungy. It's unfortunate because it has a lot of potential but if I am in Winnipeg again I will not stay there.
Pay the extra $50-$100 bucks more and stay in a decent place. Best Westerns look like fancy resorts compared to this place. Not worth saving the extra $20 and staying here! YUCK!
This place must house a lot of homeless people cause the crowd of 10-20 people that constantly lauder outside is less than pleasant. They watch your every move, checking you out and make sexual comments. I was there with my parents and husband and my mom and I felt very uncomfortable.
The hotel itself really needs an update. Our room...

Hotel is not what it says it is. It's very crowded lobby with people trying to stay warm. Rooms were very cold at night and you could smell smoke. If it was not for the security guard I would have never stayed.
Great location close to downtown & MTS center. Other than that... nothing good to report. We went in December to the Olypmpic curling trials.. Only great thing was the price, but thats it. Hotel room was actually really dirty and was in need of some repairs. The lobby and hallways looked like they were in much need of some TLC as well. The Marlborough is showing its age a bit. After all it is 99 years old and I guess we'll all be looking a bit decrepid by then! We booked the hotel through booking.com, mainly for its price and location in downtown Winnipeg. The Hotel is "tired". It needs a makeover. Front desk staff need better training and some looked "scruffy". Parking is terrible. Telephone system needs upgrading - I couldn't make a collect call from my room. Dining room is OK. with limited menu.
The staff at the reception was very nice and attentive. The laundry facilities were very usefull and you can buy detergent at the reception. As we were walking, it was very nice that the hotel is close to downtown and to public transportation.

The staff at the breakfast restaurant in the hotel was very unfriendly, and it seemed they did not care at all.
It all started before we even got there! Starting with the hotel Manager Chris taking the time to answer all my questions and concerns. Polite, respectful, and honest. When we arrived at the hotel they first gave us a one bed room. I explained to the front desk we had paid for a two bed...when we got to our new room we were very disappointed. The bathroom smelled of urine and the toilet and bathtub had not been cleaned. The manager ended up coming to our room around 10:30 pm to clean the urine off the floor. The bar in the hotel is nice but we will not be... more
“An old building that hasn't been updated. The decor is old and shows wear and damage, the plumbing is old and unreliable, the bed and bedding was clean but old and worn.”
Started with when we called for shuttle from airport to hotel: NO SHUTTLE! Has not been for 6 mths. Not told when we confirmed with hotel the week before. Reserved an upgrade room w/king, w/city view. Got a room w/standard bed and view of 5 story parking garage. Bathtub plugged! Notified front desk, 2 hrs. later maid called and finally got someone. 2 1/2 hrs. later finally unplugged! Warned not... more
The room was quiet, clean, and odor-free. All staffers were polite. The bed was comfortable. The front desk staff were friendly and did their best to be helpful, although they instructed me to take a bus on a non-existent route to get to the airport. Negatives were no airport shuttle, no heat, sudden swings in shower temperature between scalding and freezing, jack-rabbit elevators that... more
Really friendly staff who went out of their way for us when we didn't expect it. The hotel's a little dated itself, but the staff made it a great stay.
- BED BUGS, BED BUGS, BED BUGS! Need I say more?We lasted 12 hours in this hotel before we found the bugs at midnight, had to re-pack our 12 suitcases (with NO Bell Boy or serivce to help us bring the bags back down). When I told the front desk, the Supervisor said (word for word), "oh...did you find a bug in bed?", I said yes, and he said, "Oh...yeah..I thought so".THIS DISGUSTING PLACE KNEW... more
“Sketchy hotel. Very dark and old looking. Elevators very scary and looked like they were out of a horror movie. The room was old, the bed was not great, the bathroom was terrible, the parking was the worst aspect of the whole stay. The staff seemed friendly, but the breakfast was not great.”
We went to Winnipeg to visit family. Our stay was very disappointing and frustrating. First of all our TV needed to be reprogramed as soon as we got there. We had to go down and get out key cards change two days in a row because they stopped working. Lamp above bed was falling apart, mirror on the wall was just hanging from sticky pads and ready to fall, no ventilation in bathroom, the... more
I came for a conference and used the great location for several interesting walks about the city. The shuttle to and from the airport was great. And be sure to try out the breakfast and count the gargoyles in the ceiling! On the down side the AC unit in the room was rather noisy and in my room there was not an option to open the window.
Very poor, The rooms are dirty and smelly. The washrooms are very poorly laid out. the water temperature in the shower is impossible to control. The bed are very old and uncomfortable. the hallways are littered with beer cans.
I was in town for a job interview; I stayed during the week for 2 nights. The airport shuttle driver was very friendly and helpful. When you call from the airport for the shuttle, it is approximately 30 min to get picked up. The front desk staff are not very helpful with answering questions regarding the city. The rooms are very dirty, and very small. The heaters are very old and are... more
“I enjoyed the lobby architecture and decorations. The beds were comfortable and had a hassle free stay.”
I did have an bad experienceat fist with the front desk person. When i called from the airport for their shuttle, he just told me that there was no driver so i would rather take a taxi to my way there. When reached the hotel,I'm positive that he is the one that i spoke to and he didn't even greeted me or smile. He just aske my cedit card swipe it give my card keys tell me what room i will be... more
駅から15分くらいのところにあります。バスタブはあまり綺麗ではありませんでした。しかし、プールがあるので親子などで楽しめるかもしれません。
Beautiful lobby. Gorgeous dining room; excellent complimentary breakfast. Nice corner room with 2 windows. Good exercise room, but it closes at 10PM. Comfortable, with good downtown location. It is an old classic hotel, with some small signs of wear, e.g., bathtub drains clogged, no bathroom fan, hallways have some wear and tear on wood work and carpet. But overall it is an excellent value.
This was an excellent hotel room at an excellent price. The hotel was located in the middle of downtown within easy walking distance to everything. Parking was cheap on the weekends. The free complimentary breakfast that came with the room beats any continental breakfast I've had at chain hotels. Will definitely stay here again.
“If you like old-fashion class & style, this hotel is for you. The rooms tend to be small, but well kept. Extended cable and coffee maker in room. Nice hotel, good food, and convenient downtown location. Parking in structure across the street is not included in price, but is reasonable, and only $2/day on weekends plus in-out charges. Convenient public transit. Safe location for walking.”
Very average experience. My check-in receptionist was in training and it showed! But good value and very central location
i arrived late and the staff were very accomadating.again in the morning very friendly. thankyou very much marlborough staff
The Marlborugh hotel was comfortable and convient to downtown Winnipeg. Great price but needs to improve customer service and facilities a bit. Although laundry facility was onsite (a requirement for me as I was staying for more than 3 weeks) the hotel lacked dryer sheets and neglected to tell me that the dryer was broken. Room was small but for the mostpart comfortable with a desk,... more
“Hotel is pretty dirty. When I arrived in the room, there was no couch, just a chair, and had to sleep in a cot. Not what I wanted.”
This is an inexpensive hotel in downtown Winnipeg. It is old and the interior corridor carpet is at least 20 years old and there has been little spent on upkeep. I did not expect it to be a five star hotel with a premier location. I ate a late night meal in the cafe which was average but adequate. That being said, it was clean and convieniant to downtown as expected and filled... more
“Great price for the hotel, the beds could have been more comfortable and the shower pressure was poor and the water was cold or burning hot. But for the location of the hotel it was worth it.”
“It is awful! Pool is far away from rooms, food was awful, room was ugly and reminded me of a hotel from a horror flick.”
“A
party in the very next room kept us up half the night and the staff was not capable of compelling the offenders to quiet down. We were upgraded to a suite for the remainder of our stay but the move was inconvenient and just another reason we would not stay at the hotel again.”
“The room had beer bottle tops from the previous guest when I checked in. The night had security and police calls resulting from parties and arguments in the hallway. The staff was little help. The environment was dark and dirty and is in bad need of an update.”
“Over all, it was ok. Our air conditioning did not work and asked an attendant to come to fix it. Nobody came. The hotel looked old and need of remodeling (e.g.. carpet, paint). I wish there had been a convenience store within safe walking distance that would stay open late. Inside the hotel, we all felt safe, but as soon as we left the doors to the hotel, especially at night, we felt our guard... more
“Nice water-slide. Beautiful architecture inside hotel. Very scary area to have small children because of the beggars were hanging out in front of hotel.”
“The Marlborough Hotel was everything I expected from a 50 year old hotel. Good value and average amenities is what I expected and what they delivered. The location is ideal for events at the MTS Centre.”
“Maybe was a fine hotel in it's day that day has passed. The newer pool area is the only evidence that this property has seen any investment since the mid 80's. Street people were hanging around outside all hours.”
“The hotel was a decent place had a swimming pool with a water slide that was pretty relaxing. The hotel was built in the 1900's so it was a historical place. The restaurant had good food. The part of downtown I stayed at wasn't the best. I saw a man washing windows with dirty water at the stoplights and another asked me for change as I was driving out of the parking lot. I spent most of my... more
“Couldn't have been worse. Room was tiny and dirty. Hallways had an odor. The area was terrible and you couldn't walk anywhere without being asked for money.”
“It was quite dirty and had a musty/mildew smell. When we asked if we could change rooms.”
This hotel, was VERY dirty looking and feeling..and very dingy on the inside. The ONE HOTEL STAFF they had at the desk, was very displeased to see the clients checking in, and dind tknow the answers to any questions i had ( where are places to eat, how to get to certian places...etc) The rooms were dirty feeling, and had a bad smell...and the NOISE level in the hallways are ridiculous. ALSO The... more
“I really liked the location because it was within walking distance to nearly everything and within a short driving distance to many things as well. However, I wish that it didn't look as run down as it did. The walls looked old and dirty. The carpet looked old and the business center consisted of one very poor, slow computer. All in all though, I would stay here again.”
“The staff was nice enough but the hotel was over rated in most all aspects. The business center which they advertise, consists of a computer on a counter in the lobby (tacky). Old bed spreads and not enough towels. It needs real updating. I was considering staying a second night in that hotel but I decided to move to another when it just didn't meet my expectations or what their promotional... more
“At one time very good but not any more, it had its day.”
“The rooms are dirty, very old and wear out furniture. The location is very unsafe, I actually had to check on my car many times during my stay to make sure no one will break in, since they have no hotel parking, I had to park it away from the hotel. This is the worst hotel I have seen ever. I don't recommend to anyone. Please do ASAP.”
“Extremely old hotel that has experienced a poor facelift. It is dark, in an unsavorily part of Winnipeg, and unfriendly front desk staff. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.”
“Grand old hotel a block from portage & main a bit dated but still a nice place to stay. Close to shopping, theaters, dinning.”
“Hotel was good value except for parking. It is downtown and there is not much there. All of our interest were a long ways away.”
“We thought we were getting a bargain, but it ended up that the room was very small, worn, with a view of a brick wall. Then they charged us twice for our stay, which did not impress us. I would say this is a 2-star hotel at best, from our experience.”
“A pleasant place to stay with professional staff in the heart of Winnipeg. Small, cozy rooms with all the basics you need.”
“This hotel was dirty, poor communication from staff. They lost my reservation, made me pack up my stuff for the second night because they had no rooms and they ended up leaving me in the same room. They have a very poor shower, it goes from scolding hot to deep cold over and over, the water only trickled out and the rooms heat was not working in a very cold city. I don't recommend this hotel.”
The Hotel Marlborough was very nice - staff, rooms, pub all nice. The only problem was that for some unknown reason, the hotel allowed all sorts of shady characters, taht were obviously not guests of the hotel, to congregate in the lobby and entryway. There was no need for this and was a little uncomfortable.
“The staff was very well trained, cheerful despite the -26 degree weather and very fast and efficient. The historic restaurant decor was fantastic, and the location perfect for our business travelers, and I suppose vacationers interested in good food and Downtown events as well.”
“It is a 'decent' place to stay. However, not worth the price.”
“This is a fairly nice hotel if you want an economy hotel in the Downtown area with a free airport shuttle service and a decent restaurant. However, there is no free parking and the parking in the parked across the street is not patrolled. The area of the hotel is not the greatest area of town but not the worse. I avoided the bar due to the outside patrons.”
“Nice value for the money. Excellent location; most places we wanted to go were within a mile and a half or so. Pool area and waterslide were fun; I recommend it for families. The rooms were kind of old and dingy, but I wasn't expecting 5 star kind of accommodations.”
“Because of the swimming pool slide, price & location, I would rate this hotel 2.5 out of 5.”
“A cheap hotel close to the main streets. Not for the faint of heart, as the decor and service are equally stodgy. Good value and convenient for those needing to be Downtown without a car.”
Very nice antique hotel, I wanted more info about the history of the building. Excellent location for downtown activities. Room was clean, front desk helpful.
“The hotel had a good water slide, hot tub and lounge. The staff was great, however, they were doing upgrading of the heating system and our room was cold for part of our stay. We were provided with a heater though and the showers were hard to control the temperature (they are upgrading this also).”
I was able to stay in the downtown area on my first business trip to Canada and enjoyed the historical aspects of the hotel.
“The hotel parking was unsafe and the security guard himself told us our car should be left empty as transients were likely to break in--even for small change. The general cleanliness of the Marlborough, for the price, was sub par. The room smelled musky, dank, the switches and knobs were dirty or non existent (as in the elevators). The managerial staff provided no remedial action.”
A friend and I stayed at this hotel for a concert date in Winnipeg. There was an accidental overcharge on our bill, which we dodn't realize until after we returned home. I placed MANY, MANY phone calls to accting, the general manager, shift managers and NOT ONCE did anyone return my call, even though every person I spoke to promised to. Very unacceptable! Because of the poor way this was... more
The Marborough is an old hotel; it has been refurbished but it cannot hide it's age. Although relatively clean, it is not a pleasant place to stay without charm or grace that might be expected from an older hotel. It's cost is not high and it's location in downtown Winnipeg is good, but the hotel is just pedestrian and not at all memorable. I do not recommend it.
The Marlborough was your average hotel. Nothing fancy about it at all. Airport pick-up was nice, check in was fairly simple, lobby was old looking, elevator was even older, room was surprisingly far away from the elevator and small, air con didn't work until maintenance showed up (wearing a bullet-proof vest, whoah!), bathroom was average, bed was average, neighborhood was not great,... more
“For the price it was "fine", not great. The room was clean, but smelled funny (not good) and was hot. The staff was very helpful and accommodating.”
“Old hotel located in bad area security is an issue; I don't think I would stay there again.”
“The room was fine, just a little dated. I felt a little uneasy on the street outside of the hotel. There wasn't a problem, it just seemed like I needed to be aware of my surroundings with my family in tow.”
“This place is OK if you just need a place to crash for the night. I would not recommend it for an extended period of time. The staff is nice and it is in town, but it's kind of in the shady part. I have been worse, but let's just say I would not go walking alone at night. The parking garage is across the street and fairly reasonable, I spent about $5 for the one day. I probably would not stay... more
“If low cost is your concern, then stay here. But I wanted a three star hotel and only stayed here. Would not let me change my itinerary. I won't be staying at any hotels again that are less than 3 stars. While the room was fine, the halls were depressing, and it felt a little unsafe in them as well.”
“This was a quick overnight for my adult daughter and me before she flew out of Winnipeg. It suited our purposes but there is an odd mix of clientele that stay at this hotel.”
“This is an older hotel which is fairly well maintained. It needs further renovation. The physical facilities for dining were good but the food was marginal. The location is great and the price was very reasonable. One day we got a paper delivered to our door. The next day we did not.”
i enjoyed my stay however was dissapointedi got there at 12:30 and was told i couldnt check in till 3:00 pm seems rather late for a check in time otherwise wasok
“This hotel is old and run down, not even close to a 2.5 star. I would never stay there again.”
“Overall good experience. Location was handy. Would stay there again.”
