The food is great and not just pub food. They actually have a chef and she does a wonderful job at creating daily lunch and dinner specials including a soup, mussels and a main option. Very hard to find that in an English-style pub. Lots of room, booths are well-spaced and always friendly staff !!
Was At the Iron Duke last week. Typical dark English style pub. Like England, good tasty home cooked food I had the beef dip and my friends had their massive sandwiches. All were wonderful and tasty. Sorry I don't drink so can't comment on the beer but there were no complains from my companions. They do love their beer and... more
Atmosphere is always great but the food quality is dropping. Ordered some fries with gravy. I would suggest that it was not made fresh? store bought gravy perhaps? The fries seemed to come from frozen. Do any pubs serve great food anymore? They would get sooooo much more business besides just the people that want to drink their faces off.
This pub used to have great food but the quality of the food is really slipping. The last two times I was there the lunch meal was OK but not up to its normal standards. Pros - can seat yourself. Clean. Lots of room between tables. Booths are great. The waitress was pleasant and tried her best to resolve an... more
When there with my boyfriend after work on a Friday night. I had the Ruben sandwich with fries and he had the shepherd's pie. They were both delicious and reasonably priced. A good selection of drinks as well. I will defiantly go back again!
The prices are a little higher for the average pub but definitely worth it. The food alone is exceptional and worth going for.
Awesome place to hang out with good friends. Food is awesome but be weary of the muscles. I had a couple if bad batches but other than that, they have awesome food and the staff is very friendly. They make you feel at home.
My fiance and I went to the Iron Duke for some wings and beer for date night while we were visiting Kingston. While it was fairly late when we arrived Sunday evening, we were greeted warmly by the bartender and promptly directed to a booth, where our server came to welcome us.
The food and drinks were delicious, and the...

I went here a few nights ago with friends after reading the positive reviews on Tripadvisor. 17 beers on tap from what I recall with a few varieties that can't be easily found in the city. I ordered chicken fingers tossed in the Canadian BBQ sauce. Huge portion - very tasty. My buddies got wings and commented they were some... more
I posted this review in August on Urban Spoon, but as I just joined TripAdvisor, I thought it belonged here as well...
My husband and I visit the duke a couple of times a month, usually for dinner and drinks on Friday nights. My husband always sticks with the Cheesesteak sandwich. He claims there's no way anything is going to...

From the outside you might keep walking, but it would be a mistake. The food is delicious and extremely reasonably priced. A beer (their own name) and a 1/2 reuben and daily soup cost around $14 with tax, and it was extremely filling.
The reuben was so good, I wanted to go back the next night for the other half....

Stayed on the outskirts of Kingston, and our hotel clerk recommended this restaurant. Decided to try it and we were very, very happy we did. It was all home cooked food and fresh as can be. I would love to go back again!
The Iron duke is my favourite restaurant in town!! Since moving to Kingston in the spring we have gone many times and take every out of town visitor there! The food is great, we can never decide what to have because everything looks so great! I had the cheese steak last time with sweet potato fries both were amazing!! There... more
I've loved this place since it opened about five years ago. In the winter, the place feels cozy and homey, and in the summer the patio lets you enjoy the night air while still being able to enjoy a drink or something to eat.
I'm not a beer drinker, so I can't speak to the selection, but they offer good bar service, and a range of wines that I'm happy to drink. For food, I haven't really come...

the service was bad, the waitress took forever to get to us and it wastn even busy, and wasnt very happy bout the food the portions were very small. and cost not very good i have not went back and wont go back.
One of the best orders of mussels I have ever had the pleasure of tasting and the blackened chicken wrap was equally good. Great service nice atmosphere we will be back for sure.
The food is reasonably priced and the place has a reasonable selection of beers but it is often too crowded and too loud.
A wonderful menu with many locally sourced ingredients and brews. I was skeptical about a $10.50 grilled cheese sandwich ... but never again. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Looking forward to my next trip to Kingston so I can try more of their offerings.
If its raining outside, and you're chilled to the bone, stop by The Duke for a taste of excellence. Be it the Mac & Cheese, the house burger, or some late night nachos, you won't be disappointed. Be sure to take advantage of their generous selection of beer on tap. Additionally: as someone who has been been known to be... more
Had a wonderful Sunday lunch/brunch. The menu has several interesting twists...... I really enjoyed a grilled cheese with butternut squash and carmelized onions. The sweet potatoe fries were amazing, as were the bennies and everything else ordered at our table (a group of 7). Portion sizes were very generous and prices quite reasonable. We'd be happy to go again and... more
Not a bad place. Very good place to hang out with friends. It was somewhat busy, but that is to be expected from a well known watering hole.
Great selection on tap.
took my 92 year old Uncle, he had fish and chips with long island and loved it, mac & cheese was devine, hubby had burger and thoroughly enjoyed.
"The Duke", as we call it, is one of the few excelllent pubs in our fair city. I prefer is as a watering hole...though have dined many times...(..it's fine...)...but I prefer just bellying up to the bar for a pint. GREAT location, ambiance & conversation. Had you seen what the place looked like before the present owners took over, you... more
We frequent this friendly pub, mainly because of the bartenders & server par excellence Annick. While my husband had the lunch special (flat iron steak+Blue cheese risotto+garlicky green beans ), my choice? The duck...not confit...but to die for....so much so that I wanted to compliment the chef ...and did. But seeing as it was over the X mas holidays, i... more
Always well prepared food, huge beer selection. Busy place and way too loud unless you want to yell or just be quiet.
We visit this very clean and neat pub for our first time last week. We got there a little after lunch, the place was empty. We ordered the special Chicken burger, who were good. We ask for side of mayo, to figure out that there was a charge of $0.25 for regular and $0.50 for the chili. Not for the... more
Great atmosphere. Intimate but definitely not quiet. Great spot for a pint. Also, is one of the few places in town to get a cold pint of Strongbow.
I visited the Iron Duke on Wellington over the lunch hour. We ordered the mussels and they were some of the best I've ever had. They were in a light and tasty red pepper cream sauce. Quite good!! My and my beau shared a burger. Unfortunately, we like our burgers on the underdone side but, in Canada, apparently, they can't... more
We'd been many times for beers but dined on the patio for the first time last Sunday. Service was great and the food was delish. The Black bean dip was great but be ready for a lot of cheese. It was definitely tasty but not a low fat item.
Looked up pubs in Kingston before venturing from our hotel and saw this eatery. Tried it, and we were very pleased. Three adults, four children ranging in age 9 to 14 years. The food was fantastic! Everyone loved their meal. I tasted most of the choices and all were great. We will definitely eat here again next time we go... more
We've been to the Iron Duke a few times and each time we've been pleasantly surprised by welcome "touches" to our meals. This time, on a warm holiday Monday afternoon, we shared a "summer salad": mixed greens, slivered almonds, chevre, nice vinaigrette--and the added bonus of sun-dried cherries. Delicious and delightful! We also shared an Iron Duke burger--done very nicely... more
The atmosphere and menu options are very much what you expect in a pub these days. Likely a safe bet for a nice pint and a meal.
We dropped in for a drink and snack. I liked the interior, neat pub like feel. Ordered guacamole and chips, it came almost instantly. Not the best guacamole I've had (I've eaten better in Mexico) but I liked it! Washrooms are clean and spacious, service was good. No complaints from us
Great beer, single malt, great pub food. Definitely not a place for kids. Kids menu listed nachos and grilled cheese. The nachos had no vegetables like chopped tomatoes. You have to order vegetables separately($4). The salsa served with the Nachos was quite spicy. The grilled cheese was served on multigrain, which is fine but it would have been better if... more
I'm surprised to see so many great reviews, maybe I just tend to pick the worst things on the menu? I've eaten here twice, and I remember being disappointed both times, in the quality of my hamburger and then in the portion size of a measly charcuterie board... both came with price tags a little hefty for this student.
That said, it has a good vibe and does seem like a good place to grab a drink.
Great menu choices without being pretentious. Friendly staff and a menu to please everyone. A downtown favourite for us.
The bartender was on cheap drugs or just the stupidest person I ve ever met. I wouldn t return here if it was free
Went here on the recommendation of the locals and was impressed with the excellent menu and beer selection. I started with the Red Curry Mussels that were really fresh, cooked perfectly, and had the right level of speciness. The fish and chips was also excellent. Highly recommended if you find yourself in Kingston!
My spouse and I have been to the Iron Duke many times (say four-five times a year). Over the last couple of years, it seems to drop a notch with each visit for one reason or another. This time the service was good, not great. And the food was good, not great.
There are lots of excellent alternatives in downtown...

I was served by Randy, who was excellent, prompt, polite and laughed at my lame joke. I am usually only at the Duke for drinks, but was there early enough a few nights ago to see a food menu. All made fresh on site with local produce. Creative menu with a wide variety of choices.
NOT just microwaved pub grub. Great service, Always polite and friendly even when the place is packed. Huge range of beers. Good pub feel with decor. Daily deal a super value and other foods are Worth every penny !!!
This is a local hotspot before and after an event at the nearby K-Rock Centre. It can be loud and crowded.
I almost always get the Philly Cheesesteak-it is one of the best I've had and it's very filling, served in a fresh Pan Chancho bun. I once asked the waiter if, by chance, I could have some green peppers...

Visited in Oct 2011 and had wings and beer. They have a good selection of On tap beers and their wings were absolutely delicious and not too expensive. My friends both had the Duke Burger and they both loved it. Great place to eat.
This Pub is my parents watering hole and probably will continue to be until they either drop dead, or another pub opens up closer to home.
The beer is good, the service is good and the food is pretty tasty. The food isn't quite the traditional 'bangers & mash' pub type, but it still serves wings and fries, along with an assortment of salads, sandwiches/burgers, and a few nicer plates. The food...

Not a drinking parlour, but decent (great?) beers and good pub food.
Nice historic atmosphere, cosy booths.
A great place for a quality pint before a show. Some people seem to be there to watch sports as well.
When you stop in a bar on a side street or a beer and a bar snack - you don't expect to eat the most delicious calamari you've ever had. This restaurant/bar had a fun vibrant atmosphere, a great beer selection, and great Calamari. We stopped back in the next night, to try to get a table for a sit-down... more
Great casual pub with decent food and friendly staff. The latest place to "grab a beer". Menu is pub fare but done well. Good beer selection and lots of seating with reasonably flat screen tv's to catch the latest in sports.
This review was originally going to be a five, then a four, then a five again. I'm all over the place on this one because I knew this place before it was the Iron Duke. Back in my Gananoque days when this was known as the Wellington, this place was somewhat more authentic pub-ier, had live entertainment every weekend (read "Gerry the guitar guy standing in the corner singing") and the place... more
A step above the typical Irish/British bar. Innovative cuisine above the typical pub fare..but many of the classics are included on the menu. The owners are a very personable bunch, more than happy to chat with the patrons. Beer selection is excellent. Great time.
The Iron Duke is a great pub. I'd call it a "neo-pub". The warm wooden atmosphere has a contemporary feel due to the clean architectural lines and pleasant smell. It is not your average public house. It is the kind of place you can take your Mother to for dinner.
The Duke has a large selection of fine beers on...
