The Regent Hotel building - as The Great George was originally named - was erected in 1846 by James H. Downe to be sold as a combined store and dwelling. Merchant Henry Haszard bought the building and in it housed the London House for the next ten years. He sold everything from parasols, corsets, and boas to tea caddies, nails, and groceries. We stayed in the Stable House, beautiful 2 story accommodation, everything that you could imagine was provided. I loved that we were withing walking distance of everything - the watefront, a shopping mall, the Culinery School, restaurants, local pubs.
The secret ingredient to this place is the staff - just life family!
If you want to enjoy culture, history and luxury, this is a great choice. At the higher end of the price range, but worth it if you want a unique experience.
My friends and I had stayed here for one night as a last minute arrival, we were treated like Royalty! The Front Desk attendant couldnt do enought for us, as we had arrived late and very hungry, the attendant had offered us a light snack and drinks from the kitchen, which obvisously was closed, but they prepared us a light snack and boy was it good ! The rooms were amazingly comfortable and what a great sleep we all had.. thanks Inns On the Great George..we will be back!
I've just spent 3 nights at the Inns of Great George. I travel a lot and this is without a doubt the nicest place I have ever stayed.
The service is over the top. From the smell of fresh baked cookies in the lobby to an invitation to join the manager for an evening reception to the breakfast in the morning ....
They do so many "little" things that you wouldn't think of ... but they have. And the room (I've actually had smaller apartments in my lifetime) was beautiful. This is not a hotel, it's an experience! Experience it for yourself. You will LOVE it!

This centrally located boutique hotel is fashioned out of 15 heritage buildings. History is clearly in the air (some Fathers of Confederation stayed in them during the Charlottetown Conference), but it's nicely balanced by the contemporary decor and 21st-century tech touches. A complimentary Continental breakfast buffet is presented in the Pavilion reception area, as is an afternoon happy hour,... more
The Great George opened in 1997 and quickly established itself as Charlottetown's classiest inn address. A complex rather than a single inn, the property encompasses a collection of striking buildings on and around historic Great George Street, most of which were rescued from states of former disrepair. (You can learn the story from a series of black-and-white photographs in the lobby.) Two... more
We loved being able to walk to Government House and also the many good restaurants in the area. We had a great breakfast in their comfortable loby area and enjoyed the wine between 5 and 6 pm. The room was larg eand very comfortable.
This hotel was a sweet boutique hotel in the middle of Charlottetown. We will be back! Lots of nice extras, like bagged breakfast for those of us in a hurry. And warm cookies. I stayed here with my two daughters, aged 10 and 14. They loved it, too.
Disappointed to have been allocated a room in the annex across the street. Although the accommodation was spacious and clean it did smell a bit musty. Breakfast was a bit chaotic as the second batch of eggs/omelette didn't come out for about 20 minutes after the first lot finished! Lots of hungry people waiting, would have been bad if anyone had been wanting to check out early. Also had to keep... more
The Great George is a fantastic hotel in every way!
The Great George Hotel is a beautiful, historic hotel located in the heart of downtown Charlottetown -- only steps from many wonderful shops and restaurants. The staff are friendly and attentive and the lobby is so charming and comfortable. We highly recommend this unique hotel.
We stayed for two days over Canada Day and had a wonderful experience from the moment we stepped in. The staff were helpful and charming and consistently went out of their way to accommodate guests. The room was spacious, clean and beautiful. The hotel itself is close to everything going on in Charlottetown. I didn't want to leave!
The customer service was the best we'd ever received from our stays across Ontario. The staff went above and beyond to welcome and service us so that our experience was incomparable. When we return to PEI, we will exclusively stay with the Great George. Great view, amazing staff, delicious breakfast, tasteful rooms and beautiful decor.
Stayed in the "romantic suite", a lot of money for very little. Continental breakfast only, no special perks with the room other than a Jacuzzi tub that we did not have time to use, not even free bottled water. A bit noisy when the bars close down and the people are walking past the building, singing, talking and fighting. Happy Hour from 5-6 pm was a nice touch.
This is a wonderful hotel in the heart of Charlottetown close to all the sights and restaurants. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were very spacious. The hotel provided a nice breakfast and even provide a "to go" bag if you leave before breakfast starts at 7am. Each weekday drinks are provided in the lobby and wonderful cookies are provided daily after 3pm, trust me they are lovely... more
Wonderful on every level. Most other hotels could learn a lot from this property. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a hotel that knows how to take care of it's guests.
Luxury and a "homey" environment all in one! Great breakfast and beds cozy and firm.
Great night. Excellent accommodations and short walk to numerous restaurants and pubs. Very good breakfast in the morning. Very welcoming staff ready to satisfy any request.
We stayed at The Great George for two nights in June of 2012. Overall a very good experience with excellent facilities and staff. The day we left we were to be on the road at 530 so we called for a wake-up call. When we came down the next morning to leave we were greeted with a breakfast made just for us (breakfast isn't served until 7) and a bag of snacks to take with us for the ride! Totally... more
Really warm welcome and Suite was beautiful! Highly recommend this property for anyone wanting quality that's in the middle of everything.
The lobby in this fine hotel has a warm and comfortable European feel to it. Some of the staff are extremely helpful and everyone was very friendly. When we needed a rental car for the day, they set it up without a hitch and Also got us a great deal. Their recommendations for restaurants and pubs were also on the mark. Best thing about this hotel may have been the sheets which were soft as... more
The Great George is a quaint, period hotel in the heart of Charlottetown. The lobby has a wonderful sitting room with big, comfortable chairs, excellent for reading the paper with a coffee. Breakfast is a bit on the light side, self-service continental. Staff are very friendly. The rooms are pleasant though not lavish if you are used to large, chain hotels in major cities. The noise isolation... more
Understated funky elegance. Two century-old hotel, total attention to detail. Free happy hour in lounge a real surprise. A great hot breakfast buffet, free parking, and proud PEI hospitality. Lovely hotel with great service and amenities. Checked in at 5:30 to find complimentary cocktail hour featuring locally brewed beverages. The staff were all pleasant and friendly and eager to help. A true pleasure and an affordable one at that.
The location is great and the hotel is well-kept and clean. The best part was the service - warm cookies, happy hour for guests, quickly brought a portable crib to our room, turn down service, nice breakfast and very friendly staff.
This is one of the best places to stay. I am only hesitant to sing the praises any further as I would like to keep this place my little secret. The entire staff were fantastic. It is very obvious the proprietor know their business and knows it well.
Historic site in great location. Excellent staff. Daily cookies and week day cocktail hour very nice and appreciated.
i really enjoyed the spa bath in our room. I enjoyed the evening drink of wine. I enjoyed the lovely attention to detail in the interior decoration.
The shutters didn't close very easily. The alarm clock didn't work very well.
Great hotel. The paper bag breakfasts and the warm chocolate chip cookies put this hotel over the top!
I have never stayed in a rustic but glamourous hotel like the Great George. Spanning over several streets, this hotel is definitely spacious. From check in to check out, the front desk was welcoming and helpful. We also enjoyed the continental breakfast.. it was out of this world, and best of all.. complimentary with your stay. Also, having a social hour from 4-5pm with Wine and Beer was really... more
Loved the beautiful historic building and interior furnishings, especially the lobby and great room for breakfast and afternoon wine or tea. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Easy walk to everything in the old part of Charlottetown. I would go back here in a minute
The staff was wonderful and made you feel very special. The afternoon happy hour they offered was exceptional. We would return again and again.
We are on a Maritime road trip with 4 days of continuous rain but The Great George made it all right. The location was a short walk to everything, our room was fantastic, not just well decorated but immaculate, the staff were super friendly and helpful and the cookies OMG!!
Enjoyed very much Room spacious. Complimentary Bkfst .lots of choices . Spacious Bkfst area. Will be back definitely.

Wasn't quite what I expected from the photos on the net. There maybe some areas that do but as I had requested a lovely room as it was to be the high light of our trip, it was a little disappointing. Our room lost power the morning we were leaving. The bathroom/toilet was very small and the fan was pathetic so took ages to remove steam etc. Dampness resulting.
We liked everything. The baked cookies were great. The lounge area was warm and inviting. The room was spacious and very well kept.
Not a thing
We really enjoyed our stay at the Great George. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and could not have done more to be helpful. The room was really beautiful and the lobby very welcoming. It is located right in the center of town, with easy walks to the in-town sites. We would certainly recommend it to anyone.

Have stayed here on 3 previous occasions. Nice facility and very friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable place to stay while in Charolettown
The Great George is a beautiful boutique hotel right in the heart of Charlottetown. I'd stay there again and will recommend it to others!
The layout of the hotel is unique in that it feels like you have your own private living area. We have been to hotels in many different cities and after a while they all appear the same (especially the chain hotels), however; the ambiance and setting of the Great George is reflective of the wholesome characteristics of PEI. The hotel staff were exceptionally accomodating and welcoming. They... more

Kind staff. Very friendly and helpful. Front desk changed the room on request without questioning. I complained fungy smell.
the hotel is lovely.
the power went out during out stay and the hotel does not have a generator. nor do they have any kind of supplemental lighting in the hallways. the staff didn't offer anything to us for the inconvenience - obviously it wasn't their fault - but it certainly impacted our trip.
This stay was part of our anniversary trip and the room and location was ideal for our celebration. The staff was very helpful, friendly and accomodating. We were within comfortable walking distance of many attractions and food options.
We had a wonderful time there. The people were friendly and helpful. Had plenty of suggestion for place to go and places to eat. We would stay there again.
The Great George has many outstanding features, but by far its most impressive quality is the service. Every single employee we encountered was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I felt like the stay was tailored to our individual needs...it was like having a personal concierge. I really have never experienced such genuine, amazing service as I did at the Great George. The staff are to be... more
This hotel has it all for the traveler. The service of a 5 star hotel. The continental breakfast, the check in, the concierge, the location ........ I shall return!
This is a lovely hotel within walking distance of every thing you want to see in Charlottetown. The staff is exceptional. They were cheerful, professional, helpful and kind. I love the antique furnishings. The big, open first floor is a very comfortable place to sit and visit. There is a good breakfast and always fruit and warm cookies. The concierge was very knowledgeable and helpful.
Very friendly and helpful staff. They all went the extra mile to make sure everything was just what we wanted it to be. Very professional, very kind. Comforts, courteous and helpful staff, interesting guests. Very relaxed atmosphere. street musicians nearby. A true vacation experience.
very quaint room and staff was really good. LIked breakfast and cocktails.
Priced a little too high.
On our return visit to the Great George, we were pleased once again to be greeted warmly, we relaxed in the classy common area with a cold drink, and most of all, were happy to be off the road. However, our large, first floor, corner room turned out to be a major disappointment. When the shades were drawn for privacy, the lighting was minimal at best. No overhead lights. A dim-bulb floor lamp... more
Location in downtown Charlottetown is excellent. Very clean, nicely renovated. Quiet. Check in staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice wine/beer hour in the afternoon. Breakfast offering is decent though a little awkward to eat at the sofas and chairs.
I have enjoyed my stay at this hotel : an Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff, women friendly (Aveda products including a facial cleansing soap and a make-up cleaning wipe).
Loved the before dinner wine Everything was perfect.
The room was fine. The air conditioner was horrendous. Added on with a plastic tube from the window to the unit inside at the foot of the bed. So noisy I couldn't sleep. Couldn't turn off because it got so hot in the room. Tried to open the windows but heard the drunks until 3am. Would have paid more to have a room in the main part of the hotel where there was central air but was not warned... more

Fantastic staff and a great experience overall. I would definitely choose the Great George again when travelling to Charlottetown.
The Great George deserves great credit for renovating numerous houses in the streets around the original hotel building, and converting them to comfortable and attractive guest accommodations. My wife and I stayed two nights in a converted house near the hotel; consisting of one room with kitchen and living room, and a separate bedroom with ultra-contemporary walk-in shower and green glass... more
This hotel was nice, and had a pretty lobby, but it seems as if we paid a pretty high rate for an off-season stay. We did not realize that end of May was still considered off-season, but not much was open at all, and the weather was chilly and raining. I appreciate the little touches like fresh baked cookies, and a Keurig available for use, but still, next time we come back we'll go somewhere a... more
Loved the fact that the hotel is a group of older restored buildings. Very well done.
The hotel is adorable from the outside, with period detail, and once we stepped inside everything felt so relaxing. I realized later that the hotel was built relatively recently, preserving the original facade. The staff, facilities, and cleanliness were impeccable. I especially appreciated the warm cookies which always seemed to be available in the lobby, which was well-appointed with a nice... more

The Great George is one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. Any time I come back to the area, I will look to book with them first. Everything was wonderful!
2 bed double room - mattress was soft. Continental breakfast had breads that were gluten free. Great location and staff.
El mejor hotel en nuestro viaje por la Canadá atlántica.Inmejorables instalaciones y ubicación.
Tolles Hotel in toller Weise neu aufgebaut.
Auch bei Badewanne im Zimmer: etwas kleines Doppelbett.
After 4 weeks of travelling in Canada, we have stayed in many wonderful
hotels but the Great George had a unique charm about its decor and
setting. The concept of using established timber buildings reflected pei
architecture and history. We were lucky enough to stay in a suite and we
felt very much at home. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the
service was exceptional.
É um clássico! No centro histórico de Charlottetown, um conjunto de casas extremamente bem restauradas, muito bom gosto e classe.
We loved the location and the beautiful old buildings that make up the hotel. The wine in the evening was a nice touch. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We really appreciated that.
