Years ago a lot of people liked this "trendy" place. Well, they've been stuck in neutral now for several years, and may even be slipping a bit into reverse. Nothing much to write home about anymore.
This place used to be pretty good a few years ago, but in my recent visits, it seems like its sliding a bit. The food is now only okay, whereas it used to be be really good, and the ambience has slipped. Oh well, they did have their day.
we were scared to walk in and out of this place, there were a lot of really sketchy people on the street, but surprisingly on the inside it's very good food.
Have to say I was surprised on how wonderful everything tasted. Surprised you ask...well it kinda looks like a neighborhood pub/bistro. Not really modern or shiny, just comfortable and laid back ( a bit dusty in some spots). The waiter was friendly knowledgable interested in taking a moment to listen to our questions and explain the menu. teh food was fresh tasty and the lobster cooked to... more
Everything as great. The oysters were awesome. My steak special was very tasty. Great people working there. Didn't feel rushed. Would go back there again
The oyster and wine selection were great, but my companion and I both had the evening special. The Ahi tuna itself was delicious and cooked to rare perfection, but it was served with white rice, flavourless vegetables, and a sweet chili sauce that was probably out of a bottle from M&M. Would not go back for a meal, maybe just for the oysters and wine. The server was very friendly and attentive.
by sam (from calgary, alberta) May 2010 - I had been on the look-out for the best wings in Calgary and District absolutely has it! They are cheap ($0.15/wing), decently-sized and have some very interesting flavors (blue cheese hot and Jalapeño bacon cheddar). When we ordered Guinness BBQ and honey garlic, they were not just some wings with the typical sauces dumped on them. The flavors were... more
by sam (from Calgary) May 2010 - We decided to try Embarcadero. We went to eat at around 1pm for a late lunch. The atmosphere was casual and we were probably one of the three tables filled there (everyone was eating oysters). We started with their Asiago risotto balls, which tasted better than some of the ones I have tried at Italian restaurants. Then we ordered oysters from a list. They had a... more
by Mary (from Calgary) October 2009 - My friends and I came here for a friend’s birthday dinner. It was different and interesting. The server was very friendly, maybe a bit over the top, but hey, he’s gotta make a living I suppose. My boyfriend and I ordered the prime rib and also had a crab cake appetizer. It took a very long time to come out, apparently there was a large party upstairs that... more
by Mary (from Calgary) October 2009 - If you are in the mood for Oysters, I recommend Embarcadero Wine and Oyster Bar on 17th. They have a good selection of oysters and their specials are $1.25 per oyster. Presently they have a special for American Express holders, with appetizer, main course, and tiramisu dessert for $40. I had the lobster bisque, or as my friend and I unanimously named it... more
by Floria (from Calgary) October 2009 - The ambience of Embarcadero Wine & Oyster Bar feels more like a pub than anything. I thought it would be more of an upscale bar/dining with the "Wine & Oyster Bar" attached to its name but no. The menu offers a good mix of food from your commonly found appetizers to your salads, pastas, seafood to good old prime ribs. For all you oyster lovers out there,... more
Fresh oysters on the half shell, decent seafood, and Alberta beef all just a block or two from the Stampede Grounds. Beats the heck out of anything I've ever had there.
A stately brick house with lovely architectural details and loads of charm awaits diners at this popular restaurant. Given the name (which means "wharf"), the place specializes in seafood. You'll find a regular selection of oysters from both coasts, scallops, Dungeness crab cakes, and a robust seafood medley that combines salmon, mussels, prawns, scallops, and lobster in a savory sauce. If you... more
