The Belvedere Dining room and Lounge is elegant, luxurious and discreet; traversing between cosmopolitan chic and presidential power lunches. Often it's said that board meetings could be held here as quorum has so easily been met. Awards and reviews have placed The Belvedere as "The Best Restaurant Overall" in Calgary; routinely in the top ten in Canada and for the past ten years...

A great fine dining experience, very classy and a wonderful place to celebrate anything special in your life. Very good tasting food.
I went here just the other night for a celebration dinner, and it was very enjoyable. The mood is just right in here, not too fancy and not too relaxed, but you'll feel very comfortable. Food and drink are incredible, you have to check it out for yourself.
this is a particularyl well-done upscale restaurant where the service is impecible, as is the food. i was so impressed with everything, i way over-tipped! :)
Okay, this is one of those fancy restaurants that I actually WOULD go back to. Many in Calgary are overpriced for the food you get, lack real variety, or are too snooty for anyone's liking. The Belvedere was the opposite of all of those. Incredible tasting food, plated nicely, adequate sized portions, they were timely and polite, the drinks were made very well, and the atmosphere for very classy. Highly recommended.
A favorite power-lunch spot for flush oilmen, the very stylish Belvedere, on Stephen Avenue Mall, is one of the most impressive of Calgary's restaurants. The dining room exudes a darkly elegant, 1930s atmosphere. The menu blends traditional favorites with stand-up-and-take-notice preparations. Foie gras frequently appears as an appetizer, perhaps seared with a tart Macintosh apple tart tatin,... more
The food, atmosphere and entire experience were a feast for the senses. Very worthwhile for the price. Great service made the night a real pleasure. Highly recommended establishment!
Too expensive for what it was worth. The atmosphere was nice however the quality of the food really wasn't great. And the dishes were expensive, around ~32$. Some of the food was served too cold, the vegetables barely had taste.
Not worth your money.
We were a group of about 8 for lunch, on a break from a conference. The ambiance was really nice and the service was pleasant, but our lunch took about 2.5 hours and we weren't even drinking, so it was just slow dining. I don't want to say it was the service because our server was attentive, but maybe the kitchen was short staffed or maybe that's just how they roll. Regardless, we had to forgo... more
I rate their beef wellington a 4-star because the garnish and the sauce weren't mind-blowing enough. I also had a hard time asking for ground pepper while most of the waiters were all busy taking care of the wine tasting event guests... However, my waitstaff might have noticed that I was being left alone, he offered me a small portion of their food pairing for the wines to taste and it was... more
I came in for the 3 course business lunch and the service was spot on, The portions were more generous than any fine dining establishment I have dined at. I was very impressed, I will be back
My co-workers and I came here for lunch during Big Taste Calgary week. We all got the fixed menu with foie gras creme brulee and salad, beef tenderloin with bacon and a chocolate mouse. The food was excellent. The server Francois was nice and courteous. The restaurant was packed during the lunch rush but we did not have to wait... more
We arrived late there was no problem staying open for us with a cheerful attitude!Food was great as usual!Highly recommend this restaurant, definitely above the rest!!
We visited the Belvedere, after reading wonderful reviews, this last weekend. Really, nothing that I can criticize as being horrible. Everybody was friendly, the atmosphere was lovely on a cold night and we were received warmly. It is just... in a competitive city like Calgary with so many wonderful restaurants, nothing stood out. We enjoyed the five course meal, but... more
My wife and I have tried all the high-end Calgary restaurants and were very happy we finally tried The Belvedere. Our evening was enhanced by the friendly and experienced waiter who guided us through the menu with care and attention. For apps we tried the brie and a salad; the brie was large and wrapped in pastry and was absolutely... more
Worst dining experience is when you go home and you feel like you ate something rotten. The service may be okay but the quality of the food is below average.
My husband and I had lunch here on our last day in Canada, and were totally delighted. We walked in without reservations only a few minutes before they closed, but we were charmingly seated and served, and allowed, as were other guests, to linger for ages as we enjoyed every morsel of the delicious food and wine. We had Alberta... more
I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews, our group enjoyed lunch as well as the ambiance. The staff was pleasant and attentive. Prices were reasonable.
I took my fiance for dinner a couple of days ago and we had a horrible experience at Belvedere. Our waiter and the coat lady were both very polite, quick and responsive. However, the food itself was awful.
I ordered the bison and my fiance ordered the beef wellington. The bison was ok, kind of bland, nothing to write home...

We were there tonight with a large party. The waiter was good, but the bartender Clayton was very rude to me. We were there for my daughter's party, and she was excited about a Barbie guitar she received as a present. She wanted to show it to the guests, and Clayton quickly shut it down. Saying that it was "inappropriate".... more
Belvedere offers the classic comfort food, meat and potatoes and vegetables. The setting is an old bank and is interesting itself. Service is patient and the wine selection is pleasant.
Spent a bit more than an hour here with business colleagues on what has to be the last best day of the year here in Calgary. Sat outside on Stephens Ave and watched the world go by. A nice, but a bit trendy, menu. My lunch (roast pheasant) was excellent. Only criticism was that the waiter tried the switch-a-roo on... more
Had lunch with a client here August 2013. Unlike some places downtown you can actually have a conversation, gave me a password for my tablet - fast internet, excellent service and food, not INexpensive.
Nice feature - 3 oz glasses of wine.
Good appetizers & great desserts!!.. The main entree was very good as well... I had the halibut, and I really liked it...
The wine was very good as well, and the service was fine.. But the best part was definitely the desserts!!.. They were just delicious!!..
This is a quality restaurant on the interesting Stephen Street in Calgary. Food is in the Alberta tradition - heavy on meat. The surroundings are basic but Calgary tasteful. The waiter was excellent. Go prepared to spend big bucks but get good food. Hostess was kind of grumpy.
I had been on business and asked my clients assistant where would be a good place to head to downtown, may I say I was not disappointed.
We were greeted at the door. The staff was very professional. The wine list - considerable, fully stocked bar from what I could see. Excellent service, excellent parings simply wonderful all around.

It had been a few years since we had ventured into the Belvedere. We were expecting it to be high end , classy, etc. Our table of four was the only table in the entire restaurant for the whole time we were there ( from 6.00-9:30 on a Thursday night). I was put off right away when our waiter who... more
Had an amazing romantic meal! The service was great, the food was amazing! I have a serious dairy allergy and the kitchen went out of their way to ensure that my entire meal had no dairy but was still as wonderful as the regular dish.
I went to the Belvedere on with my aunts while I was visiting the city. The room is beautiful and the service was very polite and fast. I decided on a glass of red and the 9 oz tenderloin. The meat was perfectly cooked and drizzled in truffle oil. I really enjoyed my meal here, however the menu seemed a bit old fashioned and heavy to me. Everything had truffle oil and fois gras, which is... more
I went to the Belvedere with a group of friends for a celebration. The staff were attentive from beginning to end, and made this a very special night. The service was professional, prompt and unobtrusive. I had a martini before dinner that was perfectly mixed and balanced. The meal was unhurried, relaxed and absolutely delicious. We combined oysters, escargot, and... more
Great chef, good pairings with nice wines. No surprises. Walk in for a nice meal and you leave feeling satiated
We had been greeted with silence at first as though the restaurant had been reserved for only us. It was quaint, and the fortis of the restaurant placed us at ease. The greeting of our well mannered host Terry could not only be characterized as charming but informativus and formally attired. The Shaded wall lamps provided our quaint attractive corner... more
Wife brought me here for my birthday. I really wanted to like this place. Great looking dining room. Food was about the worst I have eaten anywhere. My braised beef was tough and rubbery. Wasn't able to finish it. Might as well have tried to eat my own shoe. Desert and appetizers were so-so. The entre really killed the whole... more
An under appreciated Calgary classic. While Calgarians are always quick to flock to the newest and trendiest place, the Belvedere consistently provides some of the best food in the city. The short ribs remain one of the specialties and are so tender and delicious. The first bottle of wine you bring may be opened with no corkage. The second bottle is $25.
We visited The Belvedere as an anniversary treat and were not disappointed. We had the Chef's dinner with wine pairings. The service was exceptional, the wine excellent and the food very good. The food was rich but flavourful and enjoyable. We would visit again.
This was our third visit to the Belvedere, and I can honestly say, it has lived up to our expectations all three times.
I took my husband here to celebrate his birthday. In the past we had the five course with wine pairings, so this time we splurged and had the 7 course 'Chef's choice' with wine pairings. This was...

We have been here twice now. Our first time there was for drinks and snacks. The waitress went out of her way to make us a cocktail we had at another location. I went to this place assuming it would have great French food. The ambiance is very nice no doubt. I ordered the rack of lamb. It had a wild taste to it and the there were hardly any sides to the dish. The sides tasted very off and almost like it was pickled. I just did not enjoy the food.... more
On a recent visit to Calgary we dined at the Belvedere on a Saturday evening. The restaurant has a lovely decor but no atmosphere probably because was too quiet - no customers even at weekend . The soup of the day , two of us had tasted very odd , I had the sea bass main which was tiny in... more
I have walked by many times, and thought I would try it out – and I am so glad I did! The food was delicious; I had a wild mushroom soup, in fact, that was so good I had 2 bowls! They have a very nice selection of wines, and the 2008 Chateau Neuf du Pape that I selected was... more
On a recent business trip to Calgary, I dined at The Belvedere. The place, itself, was beautifully decorated and the service was fantastic. I was slightly disappointed with the portions. The quail was properly prepared and quite delicious... the fig and chestnut added perfect touches. They could have included some starches to accompany the entree. A companion noted that her... more
I went with a med/large group. Definitely make reservations regardless.
It's located right on 8th St along many great restaurants. Superb wine menu.
frois gras - huge plus - wow!

Room is attractive, and with nice small patio on the Stephen Ave pedestrian mall. Service was good, but food was a disappointment, particularly at this price point. At 7 pm on a Thursday evening it was surprisingly quiet with only a couple of tables of patrons enjoying the sun on the patio, and two tables of two inside. My starter soup... more
Excellent!
We waited a long time before finally going to the Belvedere Restaurant as it is a more higher price range and our last experience with Belgo, which is also higher prized, was quite negative.
Not so here: we went here for lunch where they offer a special menu including a $25 three-course-meal which I chose. My company ordered fish.
The atmosphere here is fantastic. You are sitting...

Iconic french restaurant, dark, terrific service. Menu with lamb and duck you must try. The exterior sign is small, so pay attention, you could walk right by it.
Went for a scrumptious supper with my spouse before heading out to a concert. We gave ourselves a time-frame of 2 hours, which ended up being perfect, and we didn't end up having to rush to make it to the concert on time. For a gustatory experience such as the Belvedere provides, you may as well make it just that... more
I was invited here for a private function to network with industry colleagues after work.
The event was the type that I prefer: thankfully not a sit-down affair, it instead was mingling, cocktails, and roving appetizers.
The restaurant was closed to the public, so the table area remained unoccupied. Instead, the 50 or so attendees stayed within close proximity of the bar (of course).
For the...

Perhaps the most positive thing that I can say about this place is that maybe its better during dinner hour. We hit this spot up for a work lunch and frankly it was preposterous. The ambiance is great and the layout is inviting but the menu is small and food quality is marginal. The recipes on the menu were creative enough but the execution (at lunch hour) was unacceptable given the prices. We... more
Lots of great Restaurants on Stephens Avenue. This isn't one of them. It was fairly empty when we tried it last night (a bad sign) but despite that the service was very inattentive. My husband and I went to the Belvedere for our 11 year anniversary. We decided to do the chef's tasting menu of seven courses with wine parings. The first four courses were very well done and we very much enjoyed them. Unfortunately, the fifth course was a very over cooked duck breast. The sixth course was described to us as... more
Yesterday I put on my fancy pants and ventured out for a romantic lunch with the man at the elusive Belvedere. Located on Steven Ave, it is kinda hard to miss, their name is on a plaque on a wall, very European, and tres chic...We had no problem finding it once we spotted a young group of wasps, all decked out in their crisp white shirts and ties out on the patio. We ventured inside as there... more
With the exception of one bad experience with a snotty bartender who tried to tell us wine that tasted like rotten glue hadn't gone bad and refusing to take it back for a new glass every other visit has been amazing. Excellent restaurant with a very creative menu. While visiting town I found this place on Yelp and gave it a try. Everything I had was awesome including the Elk tartare. YUM
Belevedere used to fill the classy niche in Calgary at one time. We dined in early 2010 and have to report that it is not THE place to go any longer. The food was very expensive without living up to the price and the mark-up on wine was simply unreasonable. Calgary has no shortage of fine dining, so look elsewhere.
THE BEST FINE DINING IN CALGARY.
I had the pleasure of being treated to a dinner for four at Belvedere and was thoroughly impressed. A word of warning: Belvedere is not for the faint of wallet. You're looking at roughly $200 per person, depending on the wine.
I savoured the Filet Mignon as my main course, accompanied by Foie Gras and it was OUTSTANDING! Belvedere is blessed to be one of the...

Wow! The Belvedere is such a wonderful restaurant. It was my first time being at The Belvedere today for a business lunch. The food served was top-notch and with such formality and flair. Service was superb.

We enjoyed a dinner here a couple weeks ago with appetizer, main course & desert all accompanied by a lovely bottle of Sauvignon Blanc that we chose from their extensive wine list.

Great food. Atmosphere is best for the expense account, excellent service.
A while back, I was lucky enough to find Kobe beef with truffled mashed potatoes on the menu... one of the most memorable meals I've had.
Very yummy... if it's in your price range.
I ordered 3 appetizers (none of the mains really excited me).
I had one of my best meals ever here. The service can vary but the food is great!
I found this a typical overpriced snobby Calgary restaurant. I have no problem paying $ for quality, delicious food but this fell from the mark. I found the food tasteless and uninspired. There are definitely better places to go for a meal in the city.
I just ate here two weeks ago (Nov 07) and had the tasting menu. I wasn't impressed. My husband's absolute fave -- very swanky and sophisicated. An elegant birthday spot!
one of my Favs - best ever sea bass here and great wine !
Probably the best restaurant in Calgary. Try the beef tenderloin -- it's outstanding!
The service was superior with service staff helpful and gentile. Many more lunch menu items I would like to try. Can't wait to go again.
use to go there all the time what happens small portions no taste nouvelle cuisine is out of date now

This fine-dining establishment has quickly become one of Calgary's best spots for a special-occasion dinner. One of the newest upper-end restaurants to grace the Stephen Avenue Mall restaurant area, The Belvedere is both urban and rustic, with a rough-cut elegance that is a refreshing change from Calgary\'s many, too-serious dining establishments.
