The Bay in general has always been a go to store for me for good quality affordable basic items (pajamas etc). Unfortunately someone is in the process of changing it and it appears to be becoming more of a brand name store. I prefer the other way.
The Bay downtown ... a big department store that may not have changed in the last 20 years, including the staff. But it's good for what it is. Furniture here is reasonably priced, clothing is department store quality, but they have name brands. Shoes, purses, lingerie, jackets, toys ... you can find it all here.
Overall I like shopping at the Bay. I enjoy the variety of name brands and products available. I like browsing through the Bay, especially the downtown Calgary location because they tend to have a bigger and better selection. But one thing I've learned is to NEVER buy something for regular price at the Bay. They always have promotions and discounts, so it's worth to wait a couple of days before spending. The downtown location is now their 'flagship' store I think, so all the best products and variety are found here. I'm always disappointed with their deli though. Having a deli in the basement is such a great idea but they never... more
The centuries old Hudson Bay Company's local flagship presides over downtown's Stephen Avenue Mall. Its white terra-cotta building boasts five floors of merchandise. The goods run the spectrum from inexpensive house brands to designer duds, often set up in well-defined areas. In other words, Tommy Hilfiger has his space while Ralph Lauren is down and over a bit on the men's wear floor. The... more
