We dine out several times each month so when I say this is the best meal I've had in a long time, it is high praise. We started with the Korean Fried Cauliflower (KFC). Who knew Cauliflower could taste this good? A Tempura batter with a sweet and spicy sauce elevated this vegetable. For the main course, I had the... more
Who knew KFC could be so good! No folks it wasn't Kentucky Fried Chicken, or even the wonderful twice fried versions of Korean Fried Chicken tossed in gojchung spicy sauce. it was in fact the other KFC,- Korean Fried Cauliflower. I saw this menu item and was intrigued and blown over after eating it. Amazingly tasty. Jason our waiter said... more
I was surprised about the variety of pork, bacon, ham products on the menu. There was even bacon in the potatoes...No light choices- I had the chicken, which was the lightest entree- and that was still really high-fat.
This reminded me of a restaurant menu from the 70's and not one from 2014.
The best thing about Tavern1903 was their unique menu. They have put together a diverse menu of items not seen in most restaurants. The menu definitely is conducive to sharing, so dining alone didn't give me the full experience. I gorged a little bit and tried three dishes - duck confit tacos, devilled eggs and watermelon and feta salad. All... more
Totally awesome food, location and vibe! Well priced, great quality and service! Must try - smoked deviled eggs...one of the better Charcuterie Plate in the City, excellent blue crab cakes...lots of paid parking but worth it. Excellent cocktail menu and wine list!!!
Unique menu with fantastic flavours. The mozzarella meatballs were to die for. We also sampled the mozzarella bar - do not miss this unique treat.
Have eaten at Tavern 1903 a number of times and have always been impressed. Their Spinalis Rib Eye roll is amazing with an excellent cut of beef, amazing Chimichurri sauce and a Horseradish Creme Fresh it is truly a great appetizer. Wine list, while not extensive is varied and offers some great choices.
Excellent and creative food cooked by the chef. Reasonable prices with good fresh food choices. Variety of beers and wines
Six of us had dinner at Tavern 1903 on a Monday night. The restaurant was very busy with lot of atmosphere of people enjoying themselves. However for a group of six at a rectangular table, conversation was difficult to hear due to the noise level. Even when there were fewer people left, it still seemed noisy. When we ordered wine... more
We have been to Tavern 1903 three times now and it never disappoints. The food is excellent! Between our gang we've tried the pork belly sandwiches, duck tortilla soup, chicken waffles, and flat iron steak. We would recommend them all as fantastic choices. The drinks seem to be reasonably priced as well and we truly enjoyed our bourbon mint julep.... more
This is a great addition to Edmonton food is very good and room is enjoyable , can be a bit loud at times and parking is not the best. Wine list is weak price point is great and portion are just right
Thank goodness we had reservations as the place was packed on a Friday evening. We requested a table by a window and were seated by one. We shared the following delicious and creatively prepared dishes: KFC Cauliflower, Duck Confit Tacos, A Nice Big Salad and Mozzarella Stuffed Pork Meatballs with linguine. It was a tough decision for dessert but we... more
Dropped in for a mid afternoon snack and a beer. The beer, their house special was good but nothing special but okay, Ordered the Burrata and Tomatoes with crostini. Surprised to get cheese that really wasn't Burrata! Good burrata has a nice creamy centre, but this was a ball of mozzarella with a gummy texture. The rest of the plate... more
We went here for dinner with friends and we were blown away. The food was amazing. The KFC cauliflower was something different and rather tasty, and the meats were cooked to perfection. We shared the chocolate cake and the desert jar, which were some of the best deserts I've had in a while. The service was exceptional. Enjoyed the little... more
We had reserved for a table for three of us and it was ready when we arrived. Unfortunately we were put against the window and when the air conditioning came on it was uncomfortably cold. The nice thing was when we said something to our hostess, she had it turned off right away.
The ambience of the interior is very...

Made a luncheon reservation online and specifically requested a window table. Upon arrival the hostess was nowhere to be seen, and we were escorted to a table by what appeared to be a bus person. The table was tucked away in a corner right in front of a busy serving station. Once we got the seating arrangements sorted out with... more
Went here tonight with some friends, the place was packed so definitely make a reservation. Our food was wonderful but the waiter got our appetizer order wrong and seemed to be rushing the process along quite a bit since it seemed like many others were waiting for tables. We ate the incorrect appie and enjoyed it but I'd take the... more
Stopped by for dessert and coffee. Great selection of Tawny Port wine and the Jack Daniels chocolate cake was surprising very good. The wait staff was phenomenal. Great place for dinner and drinks.
We went on Valentine's Day for lunch. The food was great and the service was terrific. The price was reasonable and we left quite content. Only thing odd was paying for the water. You get a choice between distilled or sparkling. It would be better if they just upped the menu items by a dollar and absorb the cost that... more
The ambience at Tavern 1903 sets the mood for a fantastic taste experience. The menu offers a nice selection of sharing plates, salads and mains. I love the idea of sharing plates as it provides an opportunity to taste a wider variety of menu items. We shared crab cakes with chipotle aioli, most flavorful with a nice zip added by... more
Packed restaurant on Saturday.
Started with appetizers- the deep fried cauliflower, the chimmichurri steak rolls, hickory ribs and the smoked mozzarella. Debated on making it an all appetizer night.
I had the flatiron steak. Great. The ladies split two entrees - the chicken waffle and one of the salads. R had the ribs. All enthusiastic thumbs up.
Opted for dessert....

They have a mozzarella bar and chef. And it shows. Some really fine creations coming out from that mozzarella chef. Spoiled me now as I won't be able to enjoy it as much elsewhere.
Rest of the menu has been impressive as well. No complaints.
If I could change something I would suggest they use smaller decanters for their wine....

I love this place and have been for drinks/nibblies on the bar side, and a meal on the restaurant side. I loved both though I think they serve different occasions. The restaurant is better for special occasions, and the bar is better for relaxed, fun nights with amazing service and food. And the cocktails are awesome.
Well the restaurant was nice enough, the food was average, didn't wow us but it was the service that disappointed overall. Our server was ok but was really rushing us through ordering even though we weren't in a rush. We said we'd have apps to start and then he was immediately asking for dinner order. It wasn't until we were... more
Very interested in trying this new restaurant. We were seated very close to another table , felt as if we were an inconvenience to the server. She was nice enough , but felt like she wanted to be somewhere else. The food was good , but maybe not worth as much as they charge. The menu is limited in the... more
This was my firsts visit to this restaurant and while I didn't dislike my dinner and experience, it isn't a place I would go back to soon. A group of 4 traveling on business went for dinner on a Wednesday. The staff were friendly prompt and efficient. We ordered the fried cauliflower and one of the mozzarella appetizers (mushrooms, bacon... more
Beautiful decor - great service ... food lacking! Out of 4 dinners 1 described as "decent", 1 as Ok, 2 "disappointing". Server was quick to remove 2 Chicken Waffles from bill BUT we came to enjoy an above average meal, even at above average prices and will probably not return.
We elected to have seats near the "famous" bar. Service was appropriate and friendly. Our food was delicious. The menu was quite extensive, i had the pho. No families in view, just the after work/before event crowd. I think a great place to be seen in, close to everything downtown.
First off we couldn't use the online table reservation because we had a party greater than 4. Not so bad to call in to make the reservation however it took a few attempts before someone answered the phone. The night we were there we ate in the lounge, environment and decor is nice. The menu is very limiting. I understand... more
Three of us were in town on business and had 1903 recommended to us by a friend. We walked in at about 7pm on a Thursday night and there were only seats available at the bar. We ordered there and when a table opened up I went and found the hostess to see if we could move. She agreed without... more
We had to call to make our reservation for 6, open table only allows up to 4.
The food was very good. I think the Short Ribs are the same dish as Hardware? The seating is very tight and the noise is loud. Not music but just ambient talking. If you want to have a quiet conversation without the person...

OK It bothers me when there are many similar things on the menu. This menu has a lot of items with pork in one form or another, and a lot of fried items. They make a point of saying on the menu that they "decline all substitutions". I guess others are not as bothered by this as the place was... more
We celebrated a friends birthday with her fiancé The dinner was amazing we all shared an extremely rich Jack Daniel’s chocolate cake. I had the Salmon with Roast Confit Potatoes, Arugula & Corn, Avocado-Lime Vierge, There were a large assortment of snacks before dinner that we all shared including Baked Beans with a little zip & Corn Bread, Korean Fried... more
Food was extremely flavorful. Beer selection great. Portions were not filling. Service good. Tables too close to one another for the price. But this is Edmonton, where everything is a tad overpriced, but fortunately, less taxed than in the rest of the country.
What was shocking, was the average age in the place. Must have been about 50.

Good food, and nice atmosphere in a historical building. BUT....this place adamantly refuses to seat groups >5 together because it doesn't work for them. Hmmm.....what's the problem? Why can't they handle larger tables? Inexperience or is it just plain old stuffiness? All I know is our group of 9 had to sit at two separate tables back to back. The... more
Our first visit to 1903, but definitely won't be our last. We went as we had heard from a friend that a new place had opened up, so we had no expectations whatsoever. We were greeted and seated immediately. The staff were welcoming, and engaging. The service was great.
The food was very nicely presented and so very flavourful. The...

My husband and I had the opportunity of trying out the tavern side of Tavern 1903 before a show last week. The restoration of the old Alberta Hotel is very impressive. Old original mirrors were copied to fill in the walls. Attention to detail of the old establishment was evident as they incorporated an ancient till and new dishes that... more
Nice new restaurant in downtown Edmonton. It is very busy with a lot of people trying out the new place, so reservations recommended. Without a reservation, you may still be able to get a place in the bar. It is divided into two halves: the modern restaurant side, and the bar side which is a wonderful re-creation of the old... more
Sat on the restaurant side. Our waiter Nick was great. Enthusiastic, good suggestions on food and wine. Great cocktails and wine. Mozza platter was tasty and novel. Plenty for 4 people. Kfc cauliflower delicious. Crab cakes ok but not as full flavour as hardware. Good place to share tapas.
We had a great meal here: KFC Cauliflower (yummy), Crab cakes (so so), Tortilla Soup (really really good), Flatiron steak and eggs (great) and the Pig Nic (pork three ways - also yummy). Jack Daniels chocolate cake (portion too big but good). The food was interesting, price point was good (about 25% less than the Hardware Grill its mother restaurant).... more
Ever since hearing about the new Tavern 1903, I've been dying to try it out. I booked a lunch reservation with a group of girlfriends and we were very impressed. We just visited the recently opened Tavern 1903. The food selection was very good - offering a very trendy and unique menu. The steak and egg was our favourite dish - the flat iron steak was delicious. The trio of pork - Pig- Nic was good as well but not very filling for those with a big appetite. We had... more
