The original 1960s motel sign still marks this single-story tawny-brick motel 3 km (2 miles) south of downtown, behind which you'll find clean-as-a-whistle, albeit utilitarian, rooms at good prices. What the Swan lacks in style, owners Peter and Colleen, who live on-site, make up in substance: they are friendly and deeply invested in the property, family-run since Peter's parents built it in... more
Went to the theatre at the end of the season and found this great little motel. A very comfortable room, exceptionally clean and although decor was a little dated had no complaints.
Would not hesitate to recommend this place.
My mother and I recently stayed at this motel for two nights during the Stratford Festival. It is one of the cleanest motels I've ever stayed in, and I found the bed very comfortable. It's a 5-minute drive to the town centre, so although it would be a long walk to the plays, it makes for a very quiet setting.... more
I have been traveling to Stratford for years, and the Swan is by far my favorite place to stay. The rooms are immaculate, the owners are lovely and charming, and the price is very reasonable. The only problem is you have to book early in the season to get a room!
Easily, this is the nicest motel I've ever stayed in! Sure, the bathroom fixtures are from the 60s, but everything worked and the room was spotlessly clean. The decor was on par with very high end luxury hotels and the staff were fast, friendly and very helpful. We will, without a doubt, stay there again next time we're in the... more
We recently chose to stay at this motel based on Trip Adviser reviews. We were not disappointed! This modest motel is exceptionally clean and very close to downtown without having to hear all the noise.
Colleen & Peter run a lovely motel at the edge of Stratford. We have been going there for 15 years and keep coming back because of the clean, comfortable rooms, relaxing atmosphere and well kept gardens and grounds. Priced reasonably and easy access to local attractions, it is well worth staying at The Swan.
Having very recently stayed overnight at this property, we are pleased to report that our accommodation, including the bathroom, was exceptionally clean. Our only complaint would concern the noisy air conditioner, which was not conducive to enjoying the best sleep possible.
Have recently returned from a wonderful experience staying at the Swan Motel. Our room was spotless, the grounds are fantastic and our hosts were so helpful. We were in Stratford to attend a wedding and with our hosts help, we were able to hold a nice family gathering in the beautiful gardens. From the moment we checked in to the... more
We stayed here for two nights and had an excellent stay. The owners are lovely and make you feel comfortable and welcome upon check-in. There is plenty of parking available and the gardens and grounds were gorgeous. The pool was clean and there were lots of chairs spread around the yard. You can tell the owners really take the time... more
We stayed here based on the T.A. reviews. A bit disappointed. The room was clean but the place is definitely dated. Room had a bit of a funky odour. I think I would rather pay a few dollars more and stay somewhere a bit more modern.
we had yet another wonderful weekend at The Swan Motel in Stratford Ontario Canada, it is comfortable, relaxing and just far enough outside of Stratford to be quiet and serene. The people who own the motel are very friendly and accomodating. The price is right and we will be reserving this coming week for next summer during their music fest... more
Good value . Pleasant surroundings, lovely garden to sit in on a lovely fall afternoon. Room is snug but very clean and offers all the basics needed for an over night stay. Very close to downtown and easy run to theaters and restaurants. Very friendly management.
A real motel where you drive up to your room. We preferred the room with two beds. So much more room. Larger bathroom. Extra sink. Not much extra money. We found the one bed room cramped. Spotlessly clean. Excellently maintained. Colleen is delightful . Black Angus restaurant for breakfast is half a block away. As tasty as anything in Stratford... more
This a great place to stay when visiting Stratford. The rooms are immaculate and well maintained and the beds comfortable. The owners are very friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the theatre. It was our first time stay, but over coffee and muffins in the morning, it was obvious that many other guests have been coming for years,... more
Nice clean mom and pop motel to stay in. Owners very friendly and helpful. Well maintained room and grounds. A quiet place as you are not in downtown but it is close enough to town and easy to find. The beds are very comfortable to sleep in. I have stayed in a few places in Stratford each with there own... more
Such a friendly place! Very well priced, clean and comfortable. Everything we wanted; nothing extraneous to get in our way. The gardens and pool area were welcoming--too bad the weather was cool. Muffins and coffee in the morning was a pleasant bonus as was the opportunity to chat with fellow guests and compare play reviews. Short drive to the theatre... more
Traditionally, in past years, when we attended the Stratford Festival we stayed at a B&B. However, with the joys of the golden years, climbing stairs, and sharing a communal toilet was too much of a challenge. However, we lucked in when we stayed at the Swan Motel. We had a self -sufficient large room with twin beds, and all the... more
Never having been to Stratford, we decided to celebrate our anniversary there. With the help of TA, we called The Swan and were lucky to get a room. It was for a Monday night (the theaters are dark). Our gracious hosts at the Swan gave us dinner suggestions, play suggestions (matinee on Tuesday), and driving directions. They even showed us... more
My son & I have been coming to Stratford for several years now and have been alternating between two hotels in town. While they are OK, the prices were edging ever upwards and this year we looked around for something different. After seeing the rave reviews for the Swan, we decided to book, and are very glad we did!

This old fashion one story motel is tucked away in a beautiful setting just seconds south of Stratford and is only minutes from downtown. The owners have updated their rooms and everything is spotless. Park at your door, enjoy the beautiful grounds. It is not big and fancy but it is relaxing and comfortable, you will enjoy your stay.
For many years my wife and I have stayed at the Swan Motel. This year, as all the others, we enjoyed a great experience. We've already made our reservation for next year.
The Swan is a small family business, and its owners, Coleen and Peter, treat the rooms as home and guests as family. If only I maintained our home...

Was at the Swan Motel for the first time the July Long Weekend. It was fabulous - extremely clean, quiet and the owners were polite and full of great information. Nice touch having coffee and muffins available in the morning.
Thanks for a great visit and will certainly be back.
Stayed for two nights recently. Room was very bright and clean. There was a separate vanity with sink outside the bathroom. Very handy.Tea and coffee-making facilities and a small refrigerator. The gardens are very attractive with pool and gazebo. Coffee and muffins available at the office in the morning. Peter and Colleen were helpful and most obliging. About 2 km... more
This motel exterior isn't much to look at, but the staff is awesome, the rooms are immaculate and in excellent condition, wifi is free, and it is very close (driving distance) to all the activities in town. I'm so glad someone recommended this to me!
It's been a few years ago now since we stayed there, but the whole experience was enjoyable. Strangely enough, we are locals and due to an unfortunate set of events, found ourselves temporarily without living accommodations. By good fortune, we were able to book a room at the Swan Motel and were extremely pleased with our room, service and general... more
We can only reinforce the already posted opinions about this great place. Clean, comfortable, quiet with pleasant surroundings, but just minutes down the road from downtown. Many long time clients, really a friendly community with many morning chats about theater in the office. Colleen and Peter wonderfully knowledgeable and helpful.
Weekend stay at the Swan Motel: It was clean and quiet. We were relying on taxis to get around and we had no problem getting a taxi. The Motel is not in town, but it is very close. We enjoyed the pool. The property is very well kept. My daughter enjoyed bunny watching too. We would stay here again.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Swan Motel for 5 days and loved it! The property is beautiful with absolutely clean and cozy accommodations. Most of all, we loved the service!! Colleen and Peter are amazing. They are a wealth of knowledge and wonderfully approachable. If you have never been to Stratford...hands down...check out The Swan Motel!

I would highly recommend this motel to everyone. It is the cleanest motel/hotel I have ever stayed in. The beds are very comfortable and the staff couldn't be more accommodating. It is secluded off the road with beautiful gardens, a lovely pool and outdoor sitting areas among the garden. The bathroom fixtures are updated and spotless. Windows to open in... more
My husband and I just returned from Stratford Ontario where we stayed yet again with Colleen and Peter Pola at their wonderful Swan Motel. This marks our 3rd stay (but not our last!). Just spent the weekend at Stratford and stayed at the Swan Motel. The owners are extremely accommodating and offer tips on what plays are the worth seeing and restaurants to eat at. The word motel puts you off..but very nice! Very clean, comfortable. Muffin and coffee in the morning.pool nice but freezing, no heater but rest all good! Close to shows (not walking) would visit again
As reviewed by many others, this is an immaculate property. The motel rooms are modern & the landscaped gardens are beautiful. Umbrella tables with chairs welcome you to sit & enjoy the garden. we arrived too early to check in & had a picnic there. The pool was the big draw for us but sadly it wasn't quite warm enough... more
I've been staying at the Swan for more than 25 years. The proprietors know their guests and welcome them like family. The rooms are simple, yet clean and comfortable. We are happy repeat customers of this small, very clean and very quiet motel. Wake up from a great nights sleep to birds chirping outside your window in the beautiful garden, with a gazebo to relax in before or after your show. Fast internet, friendly and accommodating owners, free muffins and coffee and very reasonable prices.
We are one of the returning-family at The Swan Motel....have stayed here many times over the years and it just seems like home! Small, spotless, well-maintained and loved by owners, comfortable, close to downtown but private rural setting, reasonbly priced for Stratford. Wouldn't stay anyplace else when in the area
We stayed in this motel in September 2012 and found it to be charming. The gardens were beautifully landscaped and the motel was very clean, comfortable and quiet. We were offered coffee and fresh muffins in the morning which really hit the spot. Although the motel is older and has been in the family for 3 or 4 generations, it... more
Good location for Stratford Festival. Owners are efficient and welcoming. Rooms with 2 double beds. Clean, up-to-date bathrooms with dual sinks, one in room, one in bathroom. Parking outside your door. Enjoyable stay.
We chose this hotel because we wanted a spot in Stratford so the we could go into town but that we could go to St. Mary's as well for a wedding. The whole weekend was cold and rainy and coming back to the swan was warm and comfortable. The muffins in the morning were great too!
Then book into The Swan in Stratford. It is just a 5 minute drive from downtown, but it is located in a quiet rural setting. The owners are always there to welcome you and help on any way possible. They are great at giving directions! The motel is fairly small and simple, but has all of the necessary amenities. However, I... more
We stayed here last night. Very clean motel. Not too far from downtown, about a 5 minute drive. Very comfortable beds and very quiet. I would like to stay here in the summer and enjoy the pool and beautiful grounds.
A lovely place, comfortable room, spotlessly clean, beautiful gardens. We picked up some wine, used our ice bucket as a wine cooler and sat out at a table and chairs in the gardens. It was relaxing. We tried the pool but it was ice cold. Only some guests from northern England braved the waters. The TV remote control is not... more
We "found" the Swan Motel through previous visitors' reviews, and want to add our own very positive comments! We spent 3 days and 2 nights there, and will certainly return on our next trip to Stratford. Coleen and Peter were gracious, friendly, and helpful - and took obvious pride in their well-kept premises. The overall effect on arrival was that... more
We spent two nights at this motel in September and found the accommodation to be excellent. Motels often get a bad rap but this one was quiet, spotlessly clean (wish I could get my tub at home to shine like the one in our room!) and the grounds are beautiful. It was only five minutes from downtown Stratford which made... more
Four couples recently stayed in Stratford to attend the Festivals 42nd Street which was good but not excellent. The Swan Motel has very clean rooms, spacious and good parking. The grounds are well kept. The only downfall is with their continental breakfast composing of muffins and coffee/tea. A very small areas is available right beside the check out counter which... more
This motel was immaculate, with nice grounds. Breakfast was coffee and muffins. This is a traditional motel, but maintenance was exemplary. My only two caveats were the price: $110 (plus Canada's high taxes) and the odd toilet that seemed about 3/4 size. There were two sinks, which is nice when sharing a room. There was a mini-fridge and a microwave.... more
Stayed here for 1 night. The beds are very comfortable, our room was spotless and the extra sink and mirror was a bonus for us. It was great to have a small fridge in the room. This motel is unlike any I have stayed at. It is very clean, comfortable and only 5min from downtown (Avon Theatre). The service is very friendly. The Swan Motel staff, especially Colleen, are welcoming, whether in person or via e-mail.
