Sushi Bar Ren offers fast-food sushi quality at sushi restaurant prices.
There's definetly better sushi out there. It's not terrible but it's not worth the few bucks you're going to spend.
I took my family here for the novelty of the train. The food was beyond gross. The sushi is kept in containers that were be drained of its bad water in front of customers. The miso soup had white slime in it...egg maybe?? On top of the bad food, the service was bad. The staff were not friendly and each time a customer came in they said something in their language and laughed. I would not... more
You might as well go to co op or safeway to get package sushi. We couldn't even decide what to eat. We left 1/3 full and paid too much for it. Hence, I suggest you get premade sushi at safeway/ coop. Delay response from waitress, no smile at all, didn't look happy.
Sushi is generally sub par. I would say the quality is less than the sushi found at kinjo but was way more expensive. I recently ate similar amounts between Kinjo and Sushi Ren. Kinjo my bill was 20 dollars, and I even got complimentary rolls from the house. Sushi ren, my bill was 34 dollars for a similar amount of food and sushi. I was extremely disappointed this place and I would not go back.
Not good - I ordered miso soup an got broth with egg, the plates sizes are small - they charge far to much, the sushi I picked off the train was TOUGH and cold, the best thing we got was tamboura veggies but waited about 20 mins for it - (no it was not overly busy) I'm industry and quite understanding when I can see its busy. I would not recommend this place, I would rather get my sunshine... more
Do not eat here. This is food court sushi at best. They do charge high end prices though. Terrible cuts of fish. Hot rice under my salmon. Asked for udon soup and I watched her pour it into a pot from an empty milk jug. Don't waste your time.
Sushi on a train... Need I day more? Love this place. The man had udon noodles and really enjoyed them. I enjoyed the rainbow rolls, salmon California roll and shake (salmon). Would defiantly return again!
I've eaten at Sushi Bar Ren many times over the years for the simple fact that they have a sushi bar (it's actually a train set) at lunch which lets you get in and out fast. The fish is usually fresh, but the portions are a little small and the prices are not. Also there is usually very little choice on their sushi bar, and they're a little slow at refilling the train cars because there is... more
Been going here for 10 years now and just love the sushi , great when you are in a rush just grab it from the train eat and go.
Terrible. The food is very poor quality, poor selection, and poorly made. Overpriced at best. The service also leaves something to be desired. If good reviews of this place exist, they came from people who have never eaten sushi anywhere else. The pre-made sushi from a Safeway deli would be better
I lived down the road from this place for 9 months and unfortunately didn't eat there more. I no longer live in Calgary but whenever I visit I try to schedule in a trip here. We've also made special trips to Calgary just for dinner out here. They have, by far, the best Unagi I've ever had. And while they may not always have a piece on the train, the chef is always willing to make you some if you... more
This place has been around for years (used to be called Richmond Sushi) and is run by Ren, a Japanese chef. Overall, I'd have to say that this is the best fast-food style sushi place in town. The sushi rice used is the best I've had and the fish is always super fresh.I've probably eaten here dozens of times and I've always had great service. The chef on duty has always been willing to make a... more
I've had some really delicious sushi, and I've had really s@!%!y sushi, and Sushi Bar Ren is right in between, but leaning more towards delicious! If it's getting bad reviews, someone's clearly too uptight about their sushi.I think the unfair critiques given by a few people come from the fact that during their time there, the sushi wasn't as 'fresh' as they might have preferred. That and the... more
For what you pay.. you get pretty good food. Not overpriced.Sushi chefs are always willing to make you something fresh when asked. Service is good and environment is comfortable
My family and I have been regulars at sushi bar ren since their first location in Banff. The bar has great service, great rice, and it is one of the only places in town that only uses real crab (and doesn't charge extra for it). If you are looking for a good quality eat for cheap head to Richmond for Ren's Sushi!
My wife and I went out with a few friends to this restaurant after rejecting the idea of Misato on the basis of price and finding Momoyama closed on a Tuesday. We ended up paying a LOT more for nowhere NEAR the quality we would've gotten at Misato. The sushi were generally crumbly; none stayed in one piece long enough to survive a trip into the soy sauce dish. The size of fish in the nigiri's... more
Unfortunately the model of a travelling sushi selection does not allow for fresh or cheap eats. While yes, each plate of sushi is under $5, adding up those plates to have a substantial meal can be costly. And if you're visiting during a non-peak time, the amount of time some sushi stays on the train means that it may have been sitting there for a while. While at times it'll be covered, by the... more
Used to live close so I've been a few times. First of all, it is EXPENSIVE. For poor quality. Any of the rolls that have any sort of tempura also come with this terrible, bitter aftertaste. Maybe they have never changed the oil in the deep fryer? And the rolls ALWAYS fall apart. Plus it really can't be food safe. I've seen some plates chug-chug-chug by countless times. Don't waste your money or... more
Ate at Sushi Bar Ren. Overall, I thought it not bad but kinda pricey for what you get. I'm used to Towa or Globefish sushi, big portions and big prices. The portions here were smaller, more Japanese-sized than North American-sized. I has avocado and cucumber rolls and an asparagus roll. Tried the vegetable tempura too. All were good, but I had to ask the chef for them, as they were'nt on the... more
While waiting for a movie to start at Westhills, I had a craving for sushi, and google maps pointed me across Sarcee Tr, to Sushi Bar Ren (aka Sushi House Richmond), located right next to Canadian Tire. After a quick browse on Urbanspoon, I saw 3 positive reviews and gave it a shot.As I walked in, my expectations were immediately lowered... I've always thought of boat/conveyor/(train in this... more
