Stuart's Bakery is the sister store to Max's Deli & Bakery, and has become well known for our large array of fresh pastries, cookies, cakes and desserts.
Best known for the location within the Granville Island Market and we have recently...

Really disappointed with the decline in quality from this place.
I used to love the Almond Croissant, enough to pay the crazy high price for it, but the last two times something definitely changed with the taste, and I'm now over it.
I also used to love their Fresh Blueberry Tarts, but today the blueberries were shrivelled and kind of tough, so obviously they had been frozen, not fresh plump...

I don't have a sweet tooth, but looking at the beautiful display of all the yummy desserts, I just wanted everything!
I wanted to sample all the yummy fruit tart, cheesecake and cookies that just came straight out of the oven. It took my friend and I at least 10 minutes to decide which lucky pastries was going back to the hotel with us. My friend is a huge fruit tart fan, so that's what she...

Unless you are blind, there is no way you will miss the colorful, seductive dessert display of Stuart's Bakery if you are walking around in the Granville Island Public Market! Anything you can think of, it's most likely in the selection and maybe even beyond your imagination. Everything in the display looks so delightful, and fortunately or unfortunately (Depending on your prospective) each... more
We had the most delicious, piled-high blueberry pie and we chomped it down with piggish delight!
Stuart's Bakery is a visual dessert overload. The amount of pastries that get produced at this location is astounding, and to be quite honest, very overwhelming when you are trying to decide what to get.
But that also means there's something for everyone! We opted to share a simple Mousse and also one of their Strawberry Tarts. Initial reactions.
Mousse = AMAZING
Strawberry Tart = DOUBLY...

wow! so many different desserts here to choose from! Although some of the reviews mentioned that it didn't have much flavor, we thougt the flavors were great:
fruit tart - 4 stars - for around $5, the fruits were fresh and tasted well with the filling and crust. it had a nice light flavor to it.
chocolate mousse - 4 stars - for aroud $5, very chocolatey flavor with a candy type toping and...

I'd love to know why Stuart's thinks it's okay to sell stale pastries for the same price as fresh.
Earlier today I popped by to grab a croissant. It was an expensive croissant, and I had high hopes. This was an abomination of French proportions: it was chewy. It was stale. It was not crisp on the outside and buttery on the inside. Sacre bleu, it was just bad.
Yes, the location in Granville...

Great location and beautiful presentation but this is where the good stuff ends. Tiramisu does not represent anything remotely to that italian dessert. It's made via sponge cake and had no flavor what's so ever. Canolis were old and stale. The cheese cake was ok and the creme Brulee was excellent and fresh.
I sense a stock rotation challenge with this place.
Sorry but was not worth the money...

Located in the public market. This place has so much to choose from breakfast pastries to desserts. Believe most things are baked in house. Thew size of each pastry is a good portion for the price. First time I say a nutella croissant! The fresh baked granola was delish! It wasn't too sweet or oily, and loaded with a variety of nuts, seeds, fruits. A great snack! The sesame like crackers were... more
Being the sweets lover I am, I was really excited when I saw the huge display of desserts and baked goods at Stuart's! I believe that there is something for everyone here and it was hard to make a decision as there were so many things that looked great! I ended up getting a nutella croissant the first day which was really tasty. The next day we came back to the market I got a Nanaimo bar, which... more
Good selection of deserts for $5 each. They all go well with a cup of tea from their neighboor. The best is the chocolate moose, and Black forest cake.
Profiterole cup was good but not out of this world. The whipped cream in there wasn't freshly made and you could taste that. Huge line, a little hectic and disorderly to order/pay. Great looking selection of European-style pastries, tarts, cakes, etc.
At first I was delighted to see that they carried Gluten free baked goods. I really enjoyed their GF cookies and the blondies, but they stopped stocking both these items. The GF options that they kept were more expensive and not as tasty.
Disappointed but not deterred, I bought a GF carrot cake. I ate about half of it while it was still cool from the refrigeration. When it warmed to room...

I hate this place. Due to an industrial accident involving a LOT of cattle, I can no longer do dairy based foods. And then you walk by this place. Everything looks great. Everything smells great. Long lines of people waiting for baked goods can't be wrong.
But, lo and behold at the end was a big container of fresh baked granola. I got some "to go." Half the bag didn't make it out the door of...

They had all sorts of nice pastries - I got a strawberry tart but could of chosen from any number of wonderful treats
I came here on Saturday in the morning when there was no line. I asked for a pistachio and coffee macaron; however, was given a dark red and dark brown macaron. I was pretty grossed out considering I hate fruit flavored macarons. I went up to the counter and asked the chick what she gave me, so she quickly grabbed me a pistachio one. I asked if what was in my bag was coffee or chocolate. She... more
The cinnamon record at this place is the bomb! It's basically a flaky pastry the size of an old-fashion record that's super crispy and thin. It's like crack. You won't regret it.
Whenever I go to Granville Island a stop here is mandatory. The multigrain baguette is crunchy, chewy and delicious. All the individual desserts look sublime. Couldn't resist trying the creme brûlée and must say that it was five star restaurant quality! Highly recommended.
We were intro to Granville Public Market. Nothing caught our eyes for breakfast until we passed by the display fridges at Stuart's. Boy, it was the toughest choice to make for 1 out of many attractively baked pastries which all look delicious!
We were intrigued by the display of pastries, cookies and delectable treats, but once I took a bite of my eclair I was disappointed. I hoped for a custard filling, but I got a flat whipped cream that couldn't cover the flavor of the crusty pastry and chocolate glaze. My husband purchased as piece of their plain cheesecake and a chocolate peanut butter bar. Cheesecake was good, but pb bar was... more
I came here on Saturday while visiting Granville Island. I bought a Crème Brulee and an Apple Cheesecake. Both were good, but I wasn't impressed by them. Standard flavors and nothing special.
When you walk around the market in Granville Island one place stands out above the rest, Stuart's Bakery. Our first time in the market its picturesque display case caught our eye. The tiers and rows of beautiful colors and what seems like endless choices of deserts threw our taste buds into a frenzy. My wife and I sat there for... more
Bought a cinnamon record (think crispy cinnamony/sugary elephant ear, flat like a 45). Ate their almond croissant and large garlic clove studded/filled bread back home for dinner. Each item was tasty and well made. Maryam was my clerk/cashierist, total sweetheart for trading my rolls of Canadian quarter for bills. Genial service, was recommended to trying their granola samples, which I did.... more
they got me hooked with their free granola sample.. that stuff is delicious... it's not healthy.. but it's damn tasty.. i'll be picking more of this stuff when i'm back in vancouver
I tried croissants and chocolate croissants... Not flaky at all and overpriced (2.29 and 2.79+tx). Pasteries seemed better... Maybe.
It is impossible to walk past this bakery in the Granville Island Public Market. All the bakery items look delicious, from cakes and tarts, to cookies and breads. Every one I've tasted has been delicious, can't wait to order another birthday cake for someone from this delicious bakery! Or purchase another fruit tart - yum!
Every time when I go to Grandville to Arts Supply, I always stop by at the market just to get the cakes from here. It's just so good. Everything look so delicious and it tastes awesome. Why are cakes in Vancouver so good? I'm running out of vocabularies to describe how awesome the cakes here are... more
Stuart's has one of the most amazing selection of pastries I have ever seen from simple scones and muffins to mind boggling fruit and custard creations and everything in between. We stop here every time were are in Granville Island and usually buy something here for breakfast (don't judge!) The only drawback is the selection is so vast that it... more
Stuart's is an institution at Granville Island. It's right in the heart of the open market area, and has been there for as long as I can remember. The pastries are luscious with great-quality ingredients and you can tell, baked with loving attention. There are line-ups on both sides of the counter, but worth the wait and to their credit, the cashiers work fast. Tried the granola here for the... more
Oh Stuart, how you make a delectable pastary!!!
What we bought:
The chocolate decadent slice is a thing of culinary beauty but beware it's richness as the first time I had it I was a beast and had to eat the entire thing. Needless to say it did not fair my stomach well.
Fraser Valley blue berry tart had fresh real whipped cream and a large handful of berries, the tart was a little hard but...

Excellent Carmel topped chocolate mousse. Why did I only get one? It took me two days to finish though because it was so rich. Great selection of decadent desserts. My daughter had the creme brulee and said it too was good, but the toasted sugar top was not very crunchy.
Just when you think that you have seen one window of pastries, there is another hidden away. Colorful sugar porn waiting to be seen. I did more admiring than I did buying 'cause it's like a pastry museum. Awesome wide selection, fair prices and awesome customer service. My go to spot for a sugar coma.
This review is for their French macaroons only. I really love me some french macaroons but this place was a bit disappointing.
What I swallowed:
PISTACHIO CREME: This was the best of the bunch. The cookie was light and airy and the creme filling wasn't overbearing with just a nice pistachio flavor. What a macaroon should be. I would happily order more of these.
RASPBERRY GANACHE: The cookie...

fruit tart was pretty good. crust was very crunchy, which im not a fan of. cream was light and had a natural sweetness. assorted fruit was fresh.
Stuart's has a wonderful variety of savory and sweet baked dishes. We had the Mango cheesecake and it was absolutely wonderful- subtle flavors, but true flavors.
Popular Granville Market hot spot
Deadly pastries & breads.
Scones are good.
My favorite was the chocolate almond croissant. Yum.
Everything and anything delicious can be found here. Pastries, cakes, cookies - even gluten-free Bliss Balls! As others have noted, it is not the cheapest, but then again if you are consuming calories may as well have quality ones.
I could not resist the profiteroles. Fantastic! Also tried their fruit tart - loads of fresh fruit on a custard base with cookie crust. As with most of the vendors...

The black forest cherry cake... OMG! So fluffy and flavorful without being inundated with sugar and cheap cream! Very very cute boutique dessert place.
I will give Stuart's 5 stars solely based on the delectable delightful New York Cheesecake. No word of a lie, best.cheesecake.ever. Seriously. It is so incredibly creamy and perfect.
Everything else I've tried here has been nice as well. But I'm telling you....that cheesecake.
Have I mentioned I love their cheesecake? Om nom nom nom.
After I got my Americano from JJ Beans, we strolled over to Stuarts Quality baked goods. The have a huge variety of breads, cookies, cakes, tarts, croissants, cheese cakes, buns, etc. You get the point, lots of yumminess!
It's a little on the pricey side but it's located in the middle of a big tourist spot. So, I don't mind the premium as it's totally worth it. The cheese cakes are very...

I walked by here about 5 times during my visit to the market, trying to convince myself to not buy something, but of course I wound up leaving the market with a treat. The one thing I bought was a Pistacchio Macaroon. It was delightful. It was absolutely delicious. $2 for such a tiny thing is ridiculous, but it was worth it. The bakery itself is a sight to behold. There are so many delicious... more
There are so many desserts to choose from and all beautifully presented!! I settled on a Mango Cheesecake. Heavenly! It's not too sweet, very light and fluffy, and very yummy! It definitely isn't your ordinary heavy cheesecake!

I had a poppy seed square from here and it was amazing. I love poppy seed-centric pastries but normally only really see them in Russian bakeries. I have to add that few of their other offerings seemed appealing to me - they looked like they'd be more pretty than tasty.
We also tried one of their vegan bliss bites. They get points for effort here, but these things were not very appealing. They...

I always get a dessert from here when I come to Granville Island Public Market. How can you resist those rows of delicious desserts calling out your name? It helps to be displayed in a busy traffic area of the market. My sister absolutely loves their NY cheesecake. It is fluffy and not heavy with fresh whipped cream on top. I am sure it sells pretty fast.. I have also tried their fruit pie,... more
Even though I regularly go to Granville Island, strangely enough I have never been to this place. May be I had but never really noticed their Rock'n'Roll-ish grungy logo. But recently we got 2 cakes at office from this place. I don't even know what they were called, but one was chocolate mousse cake. Everyone loved them. They were light, not too sweet or soggy. I will definitely try it when I... more
I picked up a couple of delicious pumpkin pie tarts here. I wish we had more time here so we could try out some of the other baked goods.
They also gave me directions. Very helpful!
I think Stuart's should stick to what they do best... pies, pastries, and breads... not having made my macarons in a month, I needed motivation and I saw two kinds on their pastry counter - raspberry and apricot.... Seeing that the filling contained jam / preserves, I knew that it would be a sweet treat. however, the appearance of the shell looked too stiff and shiny, but I thought I would take... more
We walked by and saw all the treats on display. I thought they appeared a bit dry, but my husband wanted to try the peanut butter chocolate chunk cookie. It was indeed dry.
I want to move to Granville Island and eat here every day - not good for the waist line but who cares!
Stuart's has a veritable dessert showcase that's one of the best looking in the market, but in taste tests the results aren't so fantastic.
I've tried two things from Stuart's - a mango cheesecake and a French citron creme brulee. The mango cheesecake was good, but ultimately a bit too fruity. It would have been better balanced with a layer of plain cheesecake.
The French citron creme brulee...

Stuart's Bakery at Oakridge Center! We walked by the food court and spotted this nice little glass dessert stand and saw all the eye candy. There were fine pastries, special cakes, delicate mini cheesecakes, lovely desserts and fresh cookies/muffins. They all looked so good! The prices were decent too, not charging an arm and a leg for a small piece of bakery.
After some thinking, I got the...

Holy c@!p ! One look at the display case and my heart melted. I had the green tea mousse and it was topped with a physalis. The mousse here is so damn smooth and fluffy. I ate it in my personal record speed. We also got a rustic bread sliced to take home and it went great with our little homemade charcuterie and cheese plate. The service is great and they accept plastic.
Inside the Public Market on Granville Island is this bakery. It may not be easy to find especially as the market is packed on the weekend. However it is worth the schlep past the fruit, veg, fish and other market stalls to find this bakery with excellent breads and pastry. At first glance you may think the pastry looks a... more

Stuarts is the highlight of every trip of mine to Granville Island Market. It's hard to miss - just follow your eyes and nose to the big beautiful display of breads and desserts. I love the pecan pie so much. And any of their breads make a delicious brunch.

some of my faves are the napoleans.. they also have really good cookies.. birds nest.. chocolate skor.. they also have the black and white cookie (seinfeld fame).. "look to the cookie my friend, look to the cookie!"

The other day, I was a sad, lost soul wandering Granville Island.
Then I stopped at Stuart's Bakery and got a viennese florentine. I don't remember what I was sad about. I do remember the utter decadence of that little pastry and the joy that filled my heart as I bit into the chocolate mousse in the centre. It was so rich it took three sittings to finish. (Granted, I'm a lightweight with...

Stuart's Bakery is actually a branch of Max's Delicatessen & Bakery, the venerable Oak St bakery/deli. Nearly all the same stuff - especially the delicious breads, which are all worth recommending.
