We weren't expecting such amazing food but boy were we happy!! We had Tom Kha Gai, Pad Thai, Cashew Chicken and Curry. Nothing disappointed. Fresh, full of flavor and we had a lot of food left over. Comfortable atmosphere and fast friendly service - I highly recommend this Thai restaurant.
Delicious! Went here for dinner last night and it was so great! I had the veggie Pad Thai without egg or fish sauce (vegan) and it was so good! Amazing flavor! I wish there had been a few more veggies but the tofu and bean sprouts and onions were superb. Super friendly staff and lovely atmosphere, I highly recommend!
Amazing Thai food where the Fried Rice was one of the best. I loved their Pad thai and the coconut soup with chicken.
Amazing food, great service!! I have been to Thailand and know what authentic Thai food is supposed to be like- and this place has got that touch! The waitress had me at "homemade sauce" when ordering the traditional Pad Thai.
The shrimp here are fresh and tasty. But generally speaking the food there is a little bit salty. Hope next time they improved!
Best Thai food in Victoria. It's more like fusion. The pad Thai, fried rice and fish snapper is awesome. We come here all the time and loved it always. The host and the cook is fabulous and great service too.
It was my biggest regret to pick this restaurant over Baan Thai for dinner. The service was excellent. The girls are super friendly. However, the Thai food here were huge disappointment. We ordered a skewer chicken, pad Thai chicken, stir-fried chicken cashew with veg, and the durian lover dessert. The food arrived in a reasonable time. The food overall were too salty. I didn't expect my pad... more
first we had the veg spring rolls, greasy and no flavor...
2nd dish...a curry chicken that tasted like no curry i've ever tasted...no flavor of coconut milk and few vegetables...large chunks of chicken that should have been cut up...thumbs down.
3rd dish...a ginger chicken with vegetables. pretty good but overall i would NOT go back. other better places around...

Food was spectacular and so was the service. We walked by having no knowledge of this restaurant and were so happy we went. Their #1 starter was so tasty.
The food was great! I had a party of 6, so we shared lots of different dishes, from curry to noodles to coconut rice, etc. I would have to say that mild-medium spiciness level is not at all spicy except for with the pad Thai. So if you really want a kick, try the spicy.
The place itself is quite nice and clean. It has a good atmosphere. I'd definitely recommend it for a night out.

I went here yesterday as I wanted to try something new and I'm visiting from Vancouver. The food was really good but my only comments are the setting was a bit too dim ( not enough natural lighting) and when I asked for chilli sauce, I had to wait 5-10 mins until I asked another waitress for it again. Nevertheless, if you're looking for delicious Thai food, I recommend this place and their pad... more
Great Pad Thai - which is hard to get. Great service too! Best Thai I have had in a long time.
I ordered the number 15 soup for lunch yesterday, for takeout. While the soup was decent, it was LUDICROUSLY overpriced for the amount - $12 for a tiny plastic container. How disappointing and painful for the pocketbook.
Let me start off by saying service was amazing! Very attentive waitresses who are friendly and ensure you are treated excellently during your dining experience. Waters always topped up with frequent but not intrusive check-ins. Great atmosphere and seating.
Food, for the most part, was adequate. We ordered about 7 dishes and about 3 of them we couldn't really tell the difference between each...

Had a great supper. Very quite with the rain storm so service was personal. Had two great dishes including a seafood coconut dish and a great chicken curry all on the same day the King of Thailand had died after being the longest serving monarch
The background music was a concert contadino which was weird but the food was JUST great
Amazing family run restaurant. Wonderful service, always reliable. Please try the banana spring rolls.
I came here for lunch and was very pleased. Decent prices. The server adapted the lunch menu so I could have a lunch sized portion of green curry (lunch menu is red). Service was excellent. Zero complaints. My favourite Thai in the city so far! Worth a visit!
The pad thai gai and nua phad bai graprow were delicious. We finished with coconut ice cream drizzled with honey, and then after being an avid Yelp user but not reviewer, I was inspired to write this review. The server was lovely and personable during a busy Friday night. Highly recommend!
Single handedly the best Thai place in Victoria. Always delicious. The peanut sauce is to die for.
I've been to every Thai restaurant in Victoria, and this is undoubtedly my favourite. The coconut rice will blow your mind and the Pad Thai is the best in the city. The noodles are always the perfect consistency and the sauce is rich and delicious. The ingredients are extremely high quality in all the dishes, including meat, which is often a lagging point in other Thai spots in town (like Baan... more
I love this place. I've been coming here for the past 6 years mostly for lunches combos. I've tried few Thai restaurants in Victoria and u think this the best
We will not go for THAI food anywhere else. The food is 100% authentic, the service is amazing, the portions are huge & the selection is awesome. We always get the pad thai... can't beat it!
Really good food. My family and I love Thai food and have been to a lot of different restaurants in a lot of different cities and this was memorable. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. The majority of my family ordered mild food and some ordered medium to spicy and we all pleased with the level of spice they received. The leftovers were delicious as well.
Just came back to Sookjai after a long break, unfortunately it has gone downhill since our last visit! The gang gai tasted flavourless, it was missing bamboo shoots, and tasted like it was thickened with flour. Such a disappointment for how good it once was.
The lunch specials are priced at $9 or $10 which is very reasonable. Quality, freshness and flavour are excellent. Service is quick, attentive and friendly. Worth a return visit.
We decided to give this place a try and went on a Thursday evening. The staff were friendly, helpful and quick. We ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees with some coconut rice.
The appetizer was a bowl of very dry ground chicken with some corn mixed in and some little pastries cups provided for us to spoon in the filling and pour some sweet sauce over. Not recommended.

I have been here quite a few times for lunch on various visits to Victoria and have never been disappointed so decided to try it our for dinner. I often go here for lunch to enjoy their excellent lunch combos. I have never been disappointed. It also a great place to have dinner before a show at the Royal Theatre!!
I enjoy eating at Sookjai Thai. They have a pleasant restaurant, close to the city core, with good field, nice lunch specials and efficient service. Do not expect many smiles or much of a welcome -- dour is us -- but the food is delivered promptly, tastes very good and comes in large quantities. It is not the best Thai... more
My Thai visitors were disappointed with the food. It was more like Chinese food than Thai. Disappointing. The restaurant is under new ownership. If you like Chinese food it's probably okay.
Have visited this restaurant twice in the last couple of months. Both times the service was excellent. Both servers were extremely attentive, polite and friendly. The over-sized portions are well presented and the vegtables fresh. Tasty dishes!!! My one complaint is that I believe they over use salt; as my wife, adult children and myself all felt very thirtsy after... more
Ordered from Sookjai recently and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of every dish. Perhaps my previous lunch visit was an off day or just different preparations than they have now but either way, we ordered 2 appies and 3 mains and the flavour and freshness were solid on all of them. The satay appetizer was really tasty.
This place was recommended by the hotel. Not being that familiar with Thai food, we asked about the "heat" and were assured that the dishes would be cooked with less heat, and sauces provided for those who wanted more spice. The sauces were terrific and we were told they make them in house. The food was good: (Por Pya; Khow... more
Ok threre is no decent pad thai in this town. I've tried them all and this was about the last try. I give up.

My husband and I were Sookjai Thai regulars. We hadn't gone for a while for no reason in particular and in that time the restaurant ownership changed hands. Our hotel concierge recommended this restaurant, and although it is a bit far from the harbor hotels, the food was really, really good.
The entrees are served family style, one big bowl that easily serves two adults. We still got two entrees, the milder Thai fried rice with chicken, and one spicier shrimp dish. The two together actually made both...

I don't understand why this place has an average of 3 stars. I thought it was great - from the food, to the portions (expect to have leftover unless you share a meal) to the very friendly service. And I, too, have been to Thailand and can tell you that this is the real deal. Will definitely go back on my next visit to Victoria.
a NEW owner with a passion for fresh quality food. Owners wife make all the desserts with a flair for original asian tastes. We have eaten at this restaurant for several years and have always enjoyed the flavours--new owner has truly exceeded our expectations. Have a great meal at very resonable prices--
We were in Victoria this month and decided to visit our favorite Thai food place in the city, we were sad to see all new waitresses and when we asked to speak to the owner who we have known for years, we were sad to hear that he moved back home and sold the business. But he was a wonderful... more

With the owner that brings his love and experience for food from across the Pacific, you have the taste of Thailand. Pick your favourite appy or ask the staff for their recommendation. We found them to be knowledge and will adjust to meet your needs. A positive experience with wonderful food.
Very good thai. Larger portions than other local thai spots. Had red curry, medium spice. Made to order. Service a wee bit off, but good enough. Will return.
This is a nicely done, quiet Thai place with very good food. We had a cashew chicken dish and nice wine. The server was friendly and helpful.
I walked by this restaurant a million times and always wanted to try because it looks cute and they have some nice Southeast Asian & Thai decor.
After living in Thailand for years the food here was a real disappointment. I wanted to question if the cooks were trained in western style Chinese food and not Thai.
We ordered:
Tom Yum Goong - tasted fresh out of a package. In its defence there...

It's likely that you'll choose Asian to eat out in Victoria; seems to be the dominant genre, and it was more or less random to choose Sookjai, although I did-factor in the inverse distance from the tourist district being less likely to be a good choice, and Sookjai is a reassuring hike away from the crowds up along Fort St;... more
Great food. Just remember that one restaurants spice meter is different than the next. Perhaps I am spoiled by great Thai food from living in the Seattle, USA area, but after reading the reviews for this place, I was expecting a lot more. I have eaten here often and I've never been disappointed. The Pad Thai is excellent, and I especially like their vegetable red curry. I've tried other dishes that I enjoy also, but I always come back for these two.
Great authentic thai food, complete with very attentive service.
We absolutely loved this place. The sauces we as well prepared as anything I've ever had in a Thia restaurant. The service was great and food was top notch. Nice place in terms of atmosphere and service, but the food is merely mediocre. A creative chef's attentions are sorely wanting.
Best Thai food in Victoria. Maybe it just took me eating at the other two over-hyped Thai restaurants in downtown Victoria to realize that Sookjai was by far the best in town.
Fun fact: "Sookjai" means "Don't worry, be happy" in Thai, and this is exactly how you'll feel here

Honestly my party had a pad thai and two types of red curry, which were all excellent! If you want really good authentic Thai food, this is seriously among the best in Victoria! I think the only resason why this place isn't more full is because it's on fort street, away from the busy harbour.
Favourite Thai place in Victoria!!! Beautiful decor. The server was efficient and friendly. My favourite dishes are the chicken cashew, and Crying Tiger (juicy sliced beef with Thai spicy sauce- YUM!). I'd definitely recommend Sookjai to everybody! LOVE IT!
We waited by the banch for about 10 min for the server to even greet us. When the order went wrong, we ask replacement right away without eating it.
