Delicious food and fair prices! Located in Ottawas China Town district, this place was a good find. We were happy with how fast our food reached our table as well as the level of quality. Highly enjoyed our expiernce. Just be warned: this is a hole in the wall type place so if you blink, you'll miss it! Took us... more
I've been going to So Good Restaurant for many years now and I have to say they haven't been surpassed by any other restaurant of its kind. The service is always great and faces familiar. It's family and Peter, the owner and his wife, as well as many others, have been serving us for a long time. They have excellent... more
Went to so good with my wife, we were lucky to get a table without a reservation and, as always the food was excellent. I have never had a dish there that was not excellent. The decor is not fancy but you go there for the great food. A lot of people order take out from there as well. Some... more
This is the place to drop in after a movie with friends, hopefully get a table and to enjoy some very delicious freshly made Chinese dishes - always great specials on the board. The menu is extensive offering Chinese and other south east Asian favourites. The service is pleasant in a very casual atmosphere. Prices are reasonable. Street parking is... more
This is our family's go-to place for tasty Chinese food in Ottawa. We've always been pleased with it and our last experience was no different. We love the Hunan beef, Shanghai noodles and Wu Se chicken. We just wish Peter - So, hence the name - was there more often!
I really like this place. Hard to he a table sometimes. Thy have excellent dishes, the decor is not fancy, but it is the food that counts
We have been regular customers and choose to celebrate the Chinese New Year with food from what has been our favourite Chinese Restaurant...So Good. We put in a pick up order of our favourites and when we sat down to enjoy it we food that the Hunan beef tasted like the meat was rotten, and after only a couple of... more
We had a little family reunion in Ottawa with nieces and nephews the last week of August. The service was great and the food quite tasty. Not expensive and easy to find.
Certainly not fancy, but very welcoming! Would go there again for sure!
If you're hungry and want great-tasting Chinese food but aren't finicky about the ambiance or décor of the restaurant, this is a good place to go. They have an extensive menu and if you don't see or know what you want, they'll ask you questions to help identify the best choice and they'll cook up whatever you want. They have... more
Excellent service, and awesome Chinese food! Probably the best in the city. My first time ordering from them was late night but they were happy to take it. From that day I was addicted. Have been going there when I can or when I'm around. I Will definitely consider having A la carte and dine in with friends and family... more
I have only been there for lunch. The first time I ordered a fish dish which was a little bland but I think it was suppose to be. The next time I ordered the eggplant and shrip Thai dish. Yummy! Good price too. For about 10$ you get a big plate of food and a starter of either hot &... more
great little place in the heart of Chinatown. tonnes of veg/an options. standouts include pepper salt tofu, wu se vegetables, green beans and a plethora of eggplant dishes. owner will strike up a conversation and give you is 20 cents, ambience isn't great, good value for your dollar.
As visitors to Ottawa we went off to Chinatown with no restaurant in mind and ended up in the So Good because it looked busy and a lady outside said it was the best Chinese food in Ottawa. The recommendation helped as the décor is, ahem, rustic. A bucket to catch the air conditioner drips lurks at the door and... more
It is soooo good :) I've been there several times. My chinese co-workers all recommend this place. The food is just great (as usual there are hundreds of items on the menu). The portions are really big, I can never finish them. I love the woosoo chicken (with peanuts). The decor is hideous, but who cares when the food is... more
Four of us happened to get a table in the corner right away on a Friday night. We had picked out another restaurant in Chinatown, but the parking on Somerset West was limited. We parked on a side street and as we were walking to the restaurant, I asked a woman in the neighborhood about that restaurant. She said it... more
I think the title says it all. If you are looking for a "proper ambience" and five star dining, you can go spend a couple of hundred bucks on a steakhouse. However, if you are looking for fresh, tasteful and authentic Chinese/Oriental food, this is it!
Service is also okay and Peter So (owner) is very interesting.
on our family trip to ottawa, we picked this restaurant for dinner, based on the reviews on happycow--we are a vegan family.
i knew what to expect, the reviews are very accurate on HC, i can only confirm what others said before.
it is indeed very small and very dated, but nevertheless clean, which for me is more important.

Ok, among the plethora of Asian options on this street, why choose this little hole in the wall with random office chairs and haphazard vinyl table cloths? Because it is what it says it is. If MSG wasn't banned in Canada, I'd be suspicious. Yes, it's that good.
Without a doubt, this is one of the worst Chinese Restaurants in Ottawa. The food was appalling, and the service even worse. If you want the best Chinese restaurant in Ottawa, go down the street to The Royal Treasure.
Have been coming here for 16 years - and every time it is just as good. Whether it's the wu se veggies (must have at least once per month!), the sesame chicken, crispy beef - everything is fresh and bursting with flavor. Even simple staples like the chicken fried rice are the best ever (seriously). I don't know how the... more
We really enjoyed our first time at So Good's. Food was great, if a bit greasy but the ambience is fabulous. Traditional, Canadian Chinese with owner busy serving tables and chatting everyone up. Really enjoyed ourselves. Will go back.
Very good Chinese restaurant with good service. Big portions. Huge amount of selections. The manager Peter makes you feel wanted and treats you very well. You can try food from many regions (authentic Chinese with several regions, Malaysian, Indonesian, Taiwanese etc).Would come again for sure.
Mr So makes great food, Love the fish! A good quality Asian food experience. Although I haven't visited recently, when I worked, I went here a few times a year and was NEVER disappointed, and always pleased.
It's a small restaurant, but it has excellent Chinese food. My favourite is the General Tao Chicken, with white rice on the side. Mmmmm, so good! It's a family run business, and they are very friendly. Tell Peter, Marc sent ya!
This place is excellent, and very inexpensive. Atmosphere is very casual. There are many great vegetarian options.
Not much to look at, but very good inexpensive food. Highly recommend their wonderful peanut shrimp dish. Also not a big fan of tofu, but their salt and pepper tofu dish was wonderful. Also highly recommend their fried rice. It had lots of goodies in it.
I have been a patron for years. The food is not off the charts, it's inexpensive asian fast food and it's consistently above average.
We go here often. Love this place. Peter is great with gluten free and will take care of you. Wonderful food.
A friend of mine introduced me to So Good over a decade ago and, like so many others, I just keep going back! Without such personal guidance, this isn't the kind of place that you would likely find on your own, as it really doesn't look like much from the street and is literally just a tiny, non-descript place tucked... more
Great food & service! Very casual family style Chinese food dining. Staff is friendly and efficient!
Even when the place is full, the food is fast! Definitely recommended. I tried the spicy squid (as pictured) due to multiple online suggestions to try it...they were right, its awesome!
The food here is really awesome. I can't say whether it's the most authentic asian fare, though, because I've never been to Asia. But I still love it.
I always order off the vegetarian menu when I'm there. It's extremely extensive and I have full confidence in the staff that they're truly serving me vegetarian food and not slipping beef...

This tiny hole in the wall is just inside Chinatownnd was a delight to find. Lots of tasty food for a very reasonable price. As a party of 5, we ordered 5 dishes ( each dish could have been a main meal in itself) and a bowl of rice and had lots of food with a small doggie bag to... more
Someone recommended this restaurant to me, so I finally decided to try it. The restaurant itself is not exactly upscale. I found the decor a bit shabby and not the cleanest place I've seen.
I ordered the lamb with green onions. The lamb was tough, obviously not a tender cut. It may have been mutton rather than lamb. It was...

Uninspiring from the outside, but a warm welcome, nice flavoursome food and generous portions (especially noodles and rice). Peanut chicken was my favourite.
Lots of great desserts to choose from. A good place for a treat and a coffee on a hectic day.
I confess - I eat there about twice a month! I do love the food but so do others in my family and so it's the place we go when we don't feel like cooking or we just want to get together. It is not big on atmosphere so often I do take-out. But no matter - the food is... more
This place was small, crowded, and use a make-over, however, the food and service was great! I highly recommend the Salt & Pepper Tofu and the Pad Thai
I went here on recommendation from others and was slightly disappointed. While the menu is extensive and everything looks good, I did not find the food to be much to talk about. The cost is good, especially considering how large the portions are, but the quality of the food could be much better.
I havent been here in many years but went frequently about a decade ago. Service was fast and nice, food was good quality with loads of options, prices were very reasonable.
Nice place to go for chinese food (canadian style chinese food). The portion are large, the price reasonable, the service is good and the owner is always willing to start a conversation. A really popular place for chinese food in Ottawa.
So Good is good, it really is. However what makes it stand apart from you standard Chinese eatery is Peter. He is a master of making you feel like a welcomed friend that happened to drop by for a bite (to have it there or take-out).
We go here often for a quick, safe (gluten free) meal in this tiny restaurant that is always packed. It may not have much curb appeal, but this joint has fantastic food... My favourite is the salt and pepper shrimp (ask for them to use corn starch and clean oil to have it gluten free).
Must try the Wu-shi chicken(the sauce with penut butter0. My friends that like in Thailand rave about it and it is what they request when they visit. Owner is super friendly and deserves the great reputation.
Food: So Good! Really!
We are vegetarians and they have such an extensive menu for us!
We love going in big groups and everyone ordering a vegan dish so we can all eat everything. We usually get sat at the table with the giant lazy Susan in order to facilitate this. This is my preferred way to eat out at...

I make it a point to eat here every time I go to Ottawa. Expect a line, but the food is just So Good! Try the fried tofu and I was just introduced to the eggplant with tofu cheese. Yum!
On several tips, I attended with friends. It's a very small and simple place. Food was very good. Careful how much you order! In this place Medium=large large=massive etc. . . Friendly staff.
Having just returned from a month long trip to China I was looking for a restaurant that served Shanghai xiolongbao dumplings. I found a thread mentioning the dumplings but it stated that none where offered in Ottawa. The writer recommended this restaurant as "authentic" so we thought we would give it a try. What we found was a small restaurant... more
Wow! This was the best Chinese food experience I have had in a long time. We had a vegetarian meal consisting of the spring rolls, fried rice (not greasy at all), the salt & pepper tofu (fantastic, as described in other reviews) and the Wu Se vegetables in peanut sauce (also outstanding). The portion sizes were large, and the service... more
The food here at So Good was better than good, it was fabulous. All four of us really enjoyed our meal here and the place seems quite popular- it was packed on a Tuesday night. My only complaint would be the ridiculous length of the menu and the fact that the waitress spilled dark sauce down my white coat and didn't offer to take the dry cleaning bill. This made dinner a little more expensive... more
Best Chinese food resraurant!!! The atmosphere is not as good as the service and the food is, small place for it's popularity!! Went without reservations, told my friends and I that in 15 minutes they'd have a table for us eventhough the place was packed. Got there 15 minutes later and we were greeted by the nicest people and some excellent food. I'm one to not like vegetables, but at So... more
