Breakfast at this crowded haven for Benedicts and coffee (think Sophie’s Cosmic Café for the hipster set) begins with a lineup. Those in the know, however, simply write “Lugz” beside their name on the waitlist and head for a pre-Joe at the neighbouring café—a server will come and collect you. Décorwise, they’re one knick-knack short of a curiosity shop, and the menu extends that whimsy into... more
Ruby-hued gem stuffed with kooky tchotchkes befitting witty menu items and retro diner touches like bottomless coffee administered by soothing cuties, served with liberal doses of the word "hon" for your hangover. Whether it's cinnamony bourbon French toast fanned atop a pile of rustic potatoes, dynamite huevos rancheros , or exceptional soups, salads and sandwiches (also for take-out &... more
It's a hipster hub with dishes with fun names. It seems promising but the overall experience was not.
It is definitely not worth waiting for. The food is nothing special and even though they have intriguing ingredients like goat feta and figs, they are pretty stingy with those things. My scramble had barely any cheese in it.
The servers are nice enough and gave us enough space until it got...

The best thing about this place is all of the clever names for their dishes. It's more fun reading the menu than it is actually eating the food. I had the "Chilli Chorizo and Cheddar" omelette which really lacked in flavour and, oddly, chorizo (I did not taste any chorizo in it at all to be honest). The potatoes were mealy and were not all that well cooked since they had no crunch and it looked... more
Wasn't that busy Friday @ 1;00 . I had the smoked meat sandwich . I wouldn't recommend it if your hungry and have a reasonable appetite . It wasnt that big and I think I got the last of the days meat scraps which probably should have gone to slickety jims dog but I was hungry and I hate b@!%hin about food in a restaurant cause really, if they don't know better they wont be in business for long.... more
There will be a line up. But it's worth the wait every time . If you love brunch this is heaven on a plate ! Huge menu, I can go back and have something amazing and different each time. Yes,it's overrun with hipsters and the dish names are punny and rediculous, but good news is also they are licensed so it's the one stop shop for hangover cure too. if there was an option for 6 stars I would... more
There was a very long line when a friend and I came here, I thought it could either be two things, really cheap or really good. It was both! And did I mention they serve alcohol? The place looked like going into a room in a circus but the food was good. I tried one of the "Benedictions" and if there was a touch more hollandaise sauce it would have been perfect. Most of the men who come here are... more
Today the three of us had a Big Breakfast with bacon thick and tasty, soft poached eggs, good, red taters, nice, multigrain toast, also good. My daughter had some sort of turkey sandwich with a signature Slickity Jim goofball name. Delicious. My wife had a veggie chili over cornbread, another weird name. Something blasphemous. Yuck. Too much chili powder or something. Take it off the menu. Just... more
Love love love it here! My bf and I go here often for brunch. Really enjoy the combination of ingredients for the bennies, yum!
My favorite place for Benny (and i 've had lots of them ). Always go there on sundays , we don't even need to other if Megan is our server, she knows what we want. Sweet fancy Moses with extra cheddar and avocado and Morning yerning for my bf.
Here is what I love about Slickity Jim's: First, the staff! The waitresses are very friendly and the service is always great (including their on-the-ball coffee top-ups). This brings me to my next point: the coffee is just delicious, the cups are never-ending, and they have almond or soy milk for lactose-unfriendly folks like myself!
The decor is great too, and the booths are comfortable. The...

It had been a very long time since I'd visited. I hated it... then. But now! Food is amazing, good service, atmosphere is great. Have to check out their "night business ". Will definitely make this a regular breakfast experience.
Thanks
One of my fav brunch spots in my area (mount pleasant and on Main st). Their benny with figs and brie is to die for!
I almost always try a place twice before giving a bad, or sometimes even a good review. Second time was really no different than the first with this place. Service is sketchy at best and the food is on par with a dirty spoon restaurant. Although the decor is pretty funky, I'm still reminded of a bad gas station restaurant on the side of some desolate highway in middle america. Most servers only... more
The food here is not good. I had undercooked bacon and overly greasy eggs. The place is kinda cute.
Well blow me down! I just had the best time chewing down on Olive me Love Omlette. Good coffee and one of the better fun experiences for breakfast in town.
Repeat visit? You betcha!
Great breakfest place. Waitresses were nice. Locals place so it alwaya good. Not exepting AMEX.
Excellent Breakfast Place. The decor reminds us of our old Montreal bfast hangouts.
I really like this place. I've been here twice, and had takeout once. Really quirky decor and fun menu. I LOVED the Cuban sandwich, the flavours were spot on. Really cool neighbourhood hangout.
This place is a great neighbourhood anchor that really does reflect the area it is in well. It is, like someone said, a bit hipster but if it helps, my dad likes it too.
The food is good, and just slightly to the gourmet side of standard diner fare. Good breakfasts, and lunch sandwiches are decent too. Nothing mind blowing, but a solid "good" and if you look at the pictures people have posted...

I have been wanting to go here ever since I moved pretty close.
I am a fan of the atmosphere. Very kitschy and fun for a brunch place (although they do dinner as well). It's a very popular place. I have to say, it can't be for the food quality though. It's just not that good.
I got the scrambled tofu and it tasted like it hadn't really been seasoned at all. This isn't the 90s anymore people--...

Great food. Nice staff.
Healthy alternatives to contemporary menu items. The best pie in the area, guaranteed no matter which pie they have. No joke.
Sunday's are busy. Very popular for brunch. And breakfast is available all day.
I'll warn people who go in here: this is a hipster lair. It's like if Fred Armisen and a gallon of kombucha had a baby, and that baby was a restaurant. But then again, the food and the service are excellent, so who am I to judge?
My first meal there was eggs and chorizo. I didn't bring too much money with me, so I ordered them as sides. The chorizo was the best I've had in my life. After the...

Food is decent. Price is a bit high. I did take out. Maybe eating in might brighten the experience.
This place is a gem of this neighborhood. Quirky little place to have brunch with friends. Especially it opens at 8, atypical in Vancouver. I love the eclectic, vintage and warm decor.
The food was classic diner breaky and is very fresh and taste good. The quirky names of the good are nice touch.
We sat by the window in the lounge at the back. My friend told me that the lounge was not decorated...

Not the type to write reviews, but our experience at Slickity Jim's deserved the biggups. Our food was very good, and our service was awesome. The servers went above and beyond, and we walked out with a list of other spots in Vancouver they recommended. Perfect spot for some Bloody Marys, an egg breakfast and friendly people.
Great local place for breakfast, the reviews are true. You will be happy that you came. Portions were perfect for breakfast.
This place is a great breakfast joint with a big menu. The classics are all there and the huevos rancheros were delicious. Good service and decent prices.
Slickity Jim's is in the Granville Commercial District. They seated me quickly after ten minutes of waiting. I had a booth and they filled my drink order quickly.
I had an eggs Benedict with bacon. It came in an appropriate amount of time. The flavor of the eggs had depth and the potatoes on the side had a good consistency. I could easily cut up the Benedict unlike most others. The prices were...

Yummy breakfast in a unique and quirky place. Staff are warm, welcomming, and friendly. Eggs benedict with veggies was delicious with a side of bacon. Fun names for breakfast items: I'm a little duck, nervous onion, cultural diversity, to mock a killing bird...too cute! Sweet place to catch up with friends and loved ones.
Ok let me start by saying that the washroom with the little boy painting holding a watermelon is terrifying! His eyes look straight at you with the light being so dim, it almost seems like he's coming out of the picture. I don't understand why they would put such a scary picture in there.
On a lighter note, I really enjoyed our breakfast here. Such a quirky little place with vintage and...

My wife and I stopped by around 2pm on a lazy Wednesday. We were intrigued as it seemed like a meta-hipster sort of place. What we got was mediocre food and slo-mo service with a pinch of attitude. Maybe the drinks are good?
All I can say is I have no idea why this place has lineups. Could it be that people are....SHEEPLE! Decor is funky but honestly, the food has no flavour. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich...my friend had the mac n cheese. NO FLAVOUR. There are way better places to eat that this people.
A dump diner with no identity aside from one they don't want. Every restaurant has a history and for most a sob story, but where it counts is where Slickity Jim's c@!%s out, the food. Not the worst, but far from note worthy. Certainly not worth lining up for.
Went last minute, there was a 20 minute wait... So we took a walk up main for a bit. When we returned we were seated at the bar. The service was quick and very friendly.
Ordered the multi grain french toast with honey butter and fresh fruits. I was very satisfied and surprised by the large serving size. This place has a great deal of hype around it, and i was not let down. Cant wait to try...

One of my favourite breakfast haunts. A really creative menu (both food and names!) and a fun atmosphere with reasonably priced food and strong drinks. What more do you need in a Brunch staple? Have been here more times than I can count - usually I get the specials to keep it interesting.
Interesting decor, vintage feel, open kitchen, great mixed drinks, friendly waitresses and good atmosphere. The minus: they were super short staffed when we went there. If there's a line then write your name on the blackboard to the left of the door when you come in. My friend's meal, which was the special of the day quesadilla with pulled porc belly and a side of cornbread, was a real... more
3 1/2 stars.
We were 5 and our wait was just about 1/2 hour on a Sunday afternoon, which I thought wasn't bad considering the size of the restaurant. Friendly service.
Eggs Benny is my favourite brunch item and they have a great selection. Mine was only warmish when delivered to our table, but it tasted good.
This place is the best for brunch. You get a great meal and it always comes with something fresh so that you do not feel are bloated and greasy afterwards. I would come hear every day of the week if I had cash money. Also the staff is very nice.
Not quite a one star but pretty close. Had a very uninspired chicken sandwich there today. No real flavour, so-so bread and the salad was a handful of costco greens with a spurt of dressing.
C@!%!y, uneven seats, mostly likely made from articles found dumpster diving.
Second and most likely last time I will eat here, too many better options close by.
A really original place, food was freshly cooked and very good value, our waitress was great, made us very welcome and chatted away. I will be back. Small so worth booking if going at what you might think would be a busy time.
Quick lines. Legit eggs benny with artichokes and brie. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 for the hip hop.
This place is incredibly busy but my husband and I were seated almost immediately as we didn't mind sitting at the bar. We came in for breakfast as it is in our neighbourhood and having just moved here we are keen to try all of the local eateries. Service was friendly and quick. The food was served promptly despite the... more
Service here is pretty hit and miss. They're not a fan of substitutions even if you're willing to pay extra. Neat decor very reminiscent of it's location in the Main Street / Mount Pleasant area. Food is diner style with a few healthy salad additions (my favourite is their version of the Cobb salad). I'd come here if there weren't many other options available as it's fairly easy to get a seat... more
Such a great experience here my first and only time two weeks ago.
Pros :
-Where there's a lineup, usually means there's a really good product.
- large and appealing menu
- good quality food with decent sized portions
- reasonable prices
- waitresses are great
- AMAZING Songza "90s-2000s Hip Hop playlist" when I visited
Cons:
- small restaurant
When I came in, it was very busy. Me and my friends wanted to try something new and came into the place expecting so. Wholeheartedly, we got what we came for. The decor was incredibly busy but very interesting. The place screamed like it was some self aware hipster that also coincidentally made some great food.
It had this 1950's barber kind of vibe. Fantastic.
Had the lamb "lies down on...

Family breaky!!
I love that this place rose from the ashes - thank you guys.
Took my Alberta family here for brunch on a visit in the summer. Good veggie options, great Caesars, fun family atmosphere.
A great rainy stop on main street on a quick trip.
Always make it part of my "coming home" routine.
xo
Food is okay but not extraordinary. Not worth the wait time to be seated and the twice-as-long wait to get your order served.
My favourite place for breakfast on Main st. I am an old time customer and have been eating breakfast here since the main/broadway location. The new location (kinda settled and not so new anymore) is much bigger but you should still expect to wait if you arrive after 9am. The Benedicts here are always delicious. I miss the "go man" Benny though. Worth the wait and totally worth checking out.... more
Went out for breakfast and as we were visiting our son, my wife found this place on Trip Advisor. It is a very unique place, not very large, great menu, quirky Decor, but great food. Each of us really enjoyed our breakfast. Food was great, great service, and overall a good experience. We will be back to try out dinner... more
We got excited when this restaurant was featured on one of the Food Network shows and decided to try. We tried the baked brie with garlics and pears for the appetizer; gumbo and the double belly buster pork platter as the main course. Seriously....nothing special about all those three that we tried. On the TV shows, the gumbo looked more... more
The food isn't bad - enjoyed the large selection and the dishes themselves were reasonably priced and quite good. But the wait and service is SLOW SLOW SLOW. First, to get a table on the weekend - depending when you go, maybe 15-40 min? Which is not such a big deal. But once seated and ordered, the food just took... more
Been here 4 times in past 2 months. Food was great each time. Tasty, well served. Have had breakfast, lunch and dinner. Would recommend any meal to try them but breakfast is probably best because they have a great selection. Haven't had an issue getting seated but the place is always nearly full.
Great tasty food - fantastic service. Great place to spend a lazy morning. Everything fresh and service sizes perfect.
First the good... Great location on a section of main st that was without a diner, cool decor, good hot diner food! Nice bennies! Good burgers. They have a lot of good stuff going on, and I would still say you should go.
But be prepared for some hiccups...
Often a lengthy wait, grumpy "cool" waitresses, mediocre coffee. I had...

went for breakfast on a weekday. restaurant was full. had to wait quite a while but it was worth it.
the food was very tasty and I had friendly service in this charming, dinner with ethical meal options.
My dislike first - apart from out waitress the rest of them were sour faced which is unusual for Vancouver; the restaurant is so popular it should be bigger.
What I liked: The atmosphere is very (what I imagined) 50's style Vancouver which we loved. Out waitress was dressed as a 50's diner waitress and had a name tag "Angel"....

We enjoyed lunch at Slickity Jim's and it was quite good. My grandchildren loved the macaroni and cheese and the turkey burger with artichoke and Brie was delicious. Best Breakfast Ever!! If you're looking for a breakfast with an awesome variety and fresh ingredients eg. Cilantro, Goat Cheese, Homemade Jam etc. and friendly efficient service - this is the place. And bonus there is a great selection for both vegetarians and meatatarians!
A weekend ritual is developing in our home - Sunday mornings at Slickity Jim's. Because we have a small child in our home, we get there by 9am and beat the line up. I have tried several items on the menu and so far I love them all (Je suis un petit canard is my fav so far). Some of... more
On a Sunday morning I could not figure out why there was a line of customers waiting outside of the restaurant. When I later went inside I noticed a kitchen with a full view of the cooks. The gal tending the bar was very friendly and advisedme on a good tap beer. The food was good and reasonably priced.
LOVED eating at this restaurant - yummy food, awesome options (I want to go back just to try all the interesting dishes I didn't have a chance at yet!), and food cooked fabulously. It's a hole-in-the-wall feel - casual, easy going, so you don't have to feel like you have to dress up for brunch. The only complaint was that... more
It was a beautiful, quiet Saturday morning when we met with friends Melanie and Jeffrey, aka MelRoy for brunch at Slickity Jim's Chat 'n' Chew on Main St. Slickity Jim's is a great place with a tragic history having completely burnt down, rebuilt, partially burnt down, and again rebuilt. It is a phoenix from the ashes and I wouldn't hesitate... more
I love this restaurant. The service is friendly, the food is exelent and the atmosphere is awsome..
Slickity Jim's Chat & Chew offers these services: restaurant.
We are a classic American style dinner with a chefs twist on the traditional comfort food. A nod toward Southern comfort food, an eclectic breakfast menu,a counter culture dinner. A spacious back room overlooking a park. A postcard picture view of the sunset. Truly something for everyone.
