Scones!
Created from real butter and cream, we make scones that will make you re-think everything you've ever considered a scone to be.
History
Established in 2004
Founded by an Ottawa serial entrepreneur, The SconeWitch was built on the foundation of recipes perfected over a lifetime of cooking for fun and for business.
Forget everything that you have ever known about scones before! We serve a variety of sweet and savory scones complemented by local ingredients.
Good spot for lunch in Downtown Ottawa.
6.99 for "sconewithes" and 2.99 for regulsr scones.
I tried the tuna tomato sconewitch and the lemon poppyseed scone with homemade wild blueberry jam and devonshire cream.
The lemon poppyseed scone was very flavorful - would highly recommend.
Cute decor and efficient service as well. Great spot for quick lunch or to even just hang around.
Never been to the UK but SconeWitch makes the best scones I've ever had. It's a first come first serve so get a seat before lining up to order.
Get their Mealwitch with Mushroom Ragu or their Brunch options. Since I really wanted to taste their scones by itself with a bit of Devonshire and jam, I ordered a simple vanilla cream scone and oh my God, they are amazing - perfectly dense and fluffy.
Costs too much for what you get. Food is good though. Recommend the cranberry orange scone.
Waited 8 minutes. Only one in line. No one bothered to take an order. Better to go to places who do care about clients.
I'm a huge fan of The SconeWitch and I often bring guests from out of town here to try the delicious scone selection. The Gloucester location is great.
Food here is delicious! We got the brunch for breakfast. It was a lot larger than what I expected so I couldn't finish it. But it was good. This place is super busy in the morning. There isn't a lot of seating so it fills up quickly: most people get their food to go because of the lack of seating. I think if we get breakfast here tomorrow I would order it to go & eat in our hotel room.

The SconeWitch excels at being a breakfast / brunch restaurant, where patrons select from a wide variety of scones and jams to satisfy their morning needs. While I've tried both the sconewitches and their brunch offerings, I find my favorite might be buying a bag of offered day-old scones at a discount at the restaurant. That way, I can...

Sweet or savoury, you will definitely enjoy the scones up for offer here. The soup + sandwich special offer a nice alternative to your typical daily lunch. A little pricy, but a nice way to treat yourself to something different if that's what you're looking for! Will come again :)
Delicious! Love their scones and sandwiches.
Gets quite busy but worth the wait. One of the better places to visit for breakfast or brunch in Ottawa
I tried the Brunch dish here!
The goat cheese feta omelette combo where you get to pick your scone and jam, and it comes with a side salad.
Price: 14.95$ a little much for the quantity of food
The scone is the gem of the dish to be honest. Although the omelette is very tasty, salad is salad.
I had the blue berry scone with ginger jam!
Scone: amazing, the texture so perfect
Ginger jam: the...

Everything is top notch at this scone joint. The scenes themselves are delicious (we tried 5 different types), and all of the little sides (creams and jams) are fantastic accompaniments to an already awesome product. All put together, things will get a little pricey, but it's definitely good enough that I would make a return visit at some point.
Hands down to magical scones only The SconeWitch delivers! Whatever "potion" she's brewing, it's sure to get you under her wickedly delicious spell!

The scone witch has absolutely wonderful scones and jams. However the real reason to go here is to but the Devon Clotted Cream for the top of those scones with jam. Absolutely wonderful.
Delicious sandwiches and takeaway scones :) Ginger and current is my fav!
Ran in, soaked and cold to the core, and was pleasantly surprised to be warmed up by the butternut squash & roasted garlic soup and ham & gruyère sconewitch. Nice atmosphere, nice people, quality food. Would recommend - rainy day or not!
Best scones ever! Enough said. If you're not captivated by the smell as soon as you walk in, you soon will be by their delicious scones. The Vanilla is still my favourite.
I tried two scones, the lemon poppy seed and the orange cranberry and had them with the raspberry jam. In terms of taste I found the scones quite bland, however the texture was perfect. Nice and crisp on the outside with soft fluffy inside. The jam however was super flavourful and really delicious and made the scones taste quite a lot better. Not sure it's worth it to pay $2.60 for a scones and... more
A friend recommend that I try their scones. I tried the vanilla, orange cranberry, cheddar and herb and onion.
They tasted very fresh, soft but not too overly buttery that you would feel sick after.
I enjoyed the vanilla one the most. It was a perfect balance of a subtle sweetness and a hint of vanilla.
The other ones I just found tasted okay.
They do sell out quickly so I recommend coming...

We had an okay breakfast here. The scones were definitely 5 out of five. Really liked that all the dishes including the jam holder were real (not disposable). The salad and dressing were so-so. My son wanted ketchup or hot sauce for the
eggs but they didn't have either. Would come
back for the scones!
I love scones, so when I was told there is a well-known scone cafe in the area I was staying, I was super thrilled!
BLT with Pesto Sconewitch ($6.99+tax) was super nommy! I gotta come back to try more of their sconewitches!! If you ask, does the scone make it so much tastier? Tbh, I think if they use bread, it will still taste great! But tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems quite...

Sconewitch is a blessing on Ottawa's cold soils and it makes my life complete. Have you tried their vanilla cream scone with devon cream? If you haven't you haven't lived.
Another Ottawa recommendation from my fiance, unfortunately this one didn't quite resonate like some of the others.
Maybe I should have just stuck to trying the scones. I wanted something for breakfast to start my day so I tried the bacon and cheese melt on a herb and onion scone. Presentation was awesome, but I found it to be a pretty average offering taste wise.
Service was incredibly slow...

I really like this place! I like their cream sauce for the sweet scones and their breakfast scones. Wish there were more parking around but I guess it works for people who live or work nearby!
This place was fantastic! The homemade scones were delicious and the staff were super friendly! Perfect spot for a healthy and indulgent breakfast.

The moment you walk into this place, it smells wonderful! I did not expect to leave feeling full, especially considering the fact that I only purchased a poached salmon sconewich. It was quite flavourful and I would definitely come back here.
True Ottawa Gem. Happy to see it is still as good as ever after being away form Ottawa for a number of years!
Well it was good of what I had but really WAY overrated for a dry somewhat tasteless scone that was really quite expensive. Uncomfortable sitting stools and chairs. Quite a lot of attitude and indifference in this "way too cool" shop for me. I tried several time with friends, but I think i will pass in the future. I left feeling hungry. Coffee is okay. Went to Bridgehead to get a really good... more
Sure the scones with clotted cream and jam are good, but in my opinion not worth the excessive wait and confusing menu. Everything is ordered separate... is there not an assumption that I want cream AND jam with the scones? Maybe I did it wrong but ordering was a process here and everyone seemed to be having issues with it as the line took forever to inch along. Coffee and other breakfast... more
I've never been a fan of Scones but this place knows what they are doing. Coffee prices are a little high but options of honey and brown sugar make up for it. Nice location and very friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit.
I have never had scones in my life that are so fresh and delicious. The place has a friendly and homey vibe. It is known for breakfast or brunch, but you can have a quick stop for a coffee and scone with a friend. If you don't have time to eat in, they have ready-made scones to heat up at home or the dough to bake from scratch. They are a great gift idea too!
Solid sandwich and soup combos. Not the best in the world, but definitely worth the visit.
This place is the best. Every time I'm in the City not only do I have to stop in for a scone but both my wife and my office make me being back a dozen each. Open in Toronto already so I can eat your scones everyday.
I'm really happy I checked this place out! It's inside a corporate building so once inside just follow the warm and toasty smell to the lovely SconeWitch!
I ordered an apple cider and the breakfast with mustard glazed ham. The eggs are the best I've ever tried. So perfectly cooked it's a crime. The breakfast also came with a salad, fresh fruit and a scone and jam. The scone was very fresh and...

The lemon curd jam was the best part of the meal! Do not order the Mediterranean veg and goat cheese! There was barely any goat cheese very disappointing.
What a lovely treat it was to eat here. We quit enjoyed the industrial feel of the restaurant and ordering was easy and Swift. Our breakfast scones were delicious and just the right portions. I wish we had something like this where I live!
Soooo yummy! Had the breakfast with a cheddar scone, eggs with mushroom rage and the side fruit and salad. Was very surprised at how much food we were given! Everything was delicious, left full and satisfied!
Without an ounce of doubt, this place serves my favourite brunch meal. I'm talking about their breakfast platter in which you can choose from any one of their delectable scones, one of their to-die-for jams, creamy scrambled eggs topped with your choice of sauce, with a side of salad AND fresh fruit! I mean, could you ask for a more balanced and fulfilling meal?
I highly recommend the mushroom...

We came for brunch during our 2-day stay in Ottawa. Scones were nice, and liked the sides that came with it. The place was nice and cosy.
Delicious!! We tried sweet and salty scones! The Devonshire cream is a must have!! The brunch on the weekend is awesome! The line up was a bit long as things seemed a bit unorganized but it was totally worth the wait! Some people were not able to sit so don't plan on lingering too long as seating is limited and the line up was long
We tried the weekend brunch and it did not disappoint! The scones and the jam are to die for. We even bought two jams to go as we are from out of town. It gets busy during peak hours so be prepared to wait for a table or take your scones to go. Portions are a bit on the small side but that just means you should buy more scones ;)
Tasty scones, but the portions are a bit small for what you pay for. No free coffee refills. Bummer. Seating is "first some, first served" - so you really need to hawk a table down - I would do it before ordering because this place seems to always be packed ... but great scones.
Really loved this place! Forgot the name of what I ordered but it was basically a scone with egg/cheese inside and it was so good. The eggs were perfect, and the scone wasn't super dry as most scones are. The place isn't that big and it was pretty packed when I went, but I would still come back if I was ever in Ottawa again!
I love the idea of this place!
We had a lovely breakfast here! Like other reviews state, be prepared to line up! We were here for about 1.5 hours on a Sunday morning, and there was a constant lineup the entire time. This place is definitely popular, yet it's kind of a hidden gem at the same time!
We went with the weekend brunch options which comes with some fruit and salad, two scrambled...

Had a wonderful brunch here while traveling through Ottawa. The orange cranberry scone with strawberry jam was amazing and I highly recommend the Brunch Special which includes eggs, scone of your choice, fresh fruit, salad and a topping of your choice either mushroom ragout, mustard glazed ham, smoked salmon or Mediterranean vegetables with goat cheese.
We decided to come here for a Saturday morning brunch, and the place was pretty packed at around 11am. As my first time here, I really enjoyed the brunch they served there. We got a brunch meal with the cheddar scone and wild blueberry raspberry jam, and another with apple cinnamon with raspberry jam. Before we left the area for the day, we decided to go back and try the herb & onion and lemon... more
As a tourist, I highly recommend coming here for breakfast. I came right when it opened and as soon as I ordered, there was a huge lineup. Thats when I knew this place must be loved by the locals. Never had a scone before, but it was... more
Best scones in town and I've tried them all!
Love that there are sweet and savory as well as gluten-free options.
The scones here are fresh and very tasty. I have had the ham and gruyere sandwich as well as the egg witch breakfast scone. Both were great! Also, the vanilla scone with jam is amazing - the jams are incredible! So much so I picked up a jar to take home. Come to San Diego please sconewitch! :)
I dare someone to find a better scone. I've tried - even during my year of living in the UK - and failed. They are buttery, flaky nuggets of pure gold. Go savoury, or go sweet, but come hungry because even just one will fill you up. Also, fantastic coffee. I like the Beechwood Avenue location.
Order at the bar and wait for your sandwich made from a scone; it is a creative, relaxed experience - sometimes a slow one, if you're there at lunch hour. You will pay more for a scone here than you're accustomed to, but they're outstandingly good and the sandwiches are tasty and inventive.
Centrally located down town, and very nicely decorated. Food was fresh and delicious.
Bathroom very modern and beautiful.
Very pleasant atmosphere. Wanted to linger there but too many people wanted to sit down. It shows that food is good, as many customers waiting to order. Would gladly return.
This time, this visit to Ottawa, I had the chance to revisit The Scone Witch in their new branch on 150 Elgin St.
Unlike their old original address on Albert St. This is a modern look in a new building. Yet the scones have retained their original excellent taste.
I have a lot of scones since my previous review and...

A city resident recommended we try this, and we are so glad we did. Great baked goods and delicious jams.
I had passed the original location on Albert St many times while on the bus, but had never gotten around to checking it out despite all the wonderful things I'd heard and read about it. With it's new location at 150 Elgin St (entrance on Gloucester) I finally made a point to visit.
I don't know if the British would...

First of all, the Scone Witch has moved from Albert to 150 Elgin. Although I love the eclectic atmosphere of the old location, this one is larger - food still great. All the scones are fantastic. First timer here....but let me tell ya...I made a lot of noise during my course about how great their soup is. I enjoyed it immensely. Unfortunately I didnt eat their sandwiches (I have celiacs) but my lunch date said they were amazing and that she goes there often.
I love their sweet scones, my favourites, oatmeal, a lovely nutty rich flavor, ginger and currents, wish they would put more ginger in them, I think they may have cut back on the ginger from the first years they were in business, sometimes it is hit and miss, and lemon poppy seed, very lemony. I will miss them now that... more
Scone Witch generally provides a very healthy lunch option. My favourite is the poached salmon on feta cheese scone.

After 6 days in Ottawa, we found this on the last day and wish we'd discovered it sooner. It's in a new location at Gloucester and Elgin - don't be afraid of the construction - it's there! We discovered this restaurant during our last trip to Ottawa. We tried some scones to-go and went back the next day to bring our favorites back home.
My top 3:
- Their blackcurrent-lemon scones
- Their oat-brown sugar scones
- Their orange-cranberry scones
The Scone Witch recently moved to 150 Elgin Street, but it's most easily accessible from Gloucester Street. The new location is larger than the old. It was very crowded, however, with many people coming in who had been skating on the nearby Rideau Canal. Our friends had fortunately managed to secure a table, and we had a very enjoyable and... more
A little gem of a place. The food is great, and a bit of a pleasant change from the ordinary. I was at their new location on Elgin street, a few growing pains yet to work out, but great a value. Be sure to have a cup of tea...delicious!
We were very excited to try this place. Unfortunately when we arrived at this location it was closed down. The good news is that they just moved. It is now located on Gloucester off Elgin.

I ate in once, quickly, for lunch with kids... so I can't evaluate the overall dining experience as I normally would but the sandwich was super tasty and quickly served up.

The Scone Witch serves some of the best scones in North America. It is a hidden gem that not everyone knows about, even in Ottawa. A stop at The Scone Witch is always my first stop in Ottawa. A destination for morning coffee with scones! Warm atmosphere, good coffee and an excellent selection of scones, both savoury and sweet!
Whether going for a tea, lunch or a break, it's a very small place. There are three or four tables, people comes and go the buy sandwiches or scones. Service is excellent. This little place is across my workplace and I love to pass by there from time to time.
This was a great place for lunch. I had a delicious BLT pesto scone and bowl of soup. I wish I'd discovered it earlier in the trip and would have gone back again and again. Nice friendly service too.
This place looks warm, inviting, and interesting. Only problem is, the eponymous scones simply aren't very good. They're dry and soft, with no sense of mild crunch that their crusts should hold. (They're also almost cubical, which doesn't affect taste but certainly hurts eye appeal. Actually, maybe it does affect taste given that they're way too thick compared to great... more
I had the Eggwitch breakfast two days in a row. It was very good and made fresh. Second day it seemed like they prepared my order and then forgot to deliver it. I received my luke warm breakfast after they delivered food to a few groups that ordered after I did. Disappointing mix up, but I will go back again.... more
We were sent to this restaurant by a lady on the street who stopped to give us directions. She said it was great food at a great price and we had to agree. Not much space inside and the chairs were uncomfortable but the food was really good, a cut above the regular breakfast fare.
You must try the scones here! They're awesome. My friend (a local in Ottawa) brought me here three years ago, and I made it a point to visit during my recent trip.
My husband and I went on Sunday morning, during the thanksgiving long weekend. It was packed, which was great. We proceeded to line up to take an order....

Stopped in here for a bite to eat when I was attending a conference nearby. The older building is fun. The shop is small but the scones and coffee were good and the price is what I expected to pay.
This time of year, the scones feature pumpkin. We used it to augment in-room breakfast. It's very tiny, but also very popular (<10 years in existence). It's a low-cost alternative. Scones are always fresh and hot and come with food items for a unique sandwich, hence the name.
I love sandwiches of all kinds and The Scone Witch makes phenomenal sandwiches with scone buns. Really tasty and the side salads are good as well. Even just getting a scone with some jam is delicious or you can have it for dessert. The service is pretty quick and the restaurant itself is very nice, although it could use air... more
Have had many good breakfasts at the Scone Witch. Always a favourite spot to hit when I am in Ottawa. The uncooked scones to take home are fabulous!
Not usually a fan of scones, but the variety and creativity in the scone flavours as well as the sandwiches made it more than worthwhile. Took one to go with a cheddar scone with tomato, goat cheese and spinach, which was fantastic. They have sweet scones as well.
The Scone Witch is located near the Albert at Bay Suites so check it out if you are staying there. The little house is quite small and cramped because it draws a crowd, but go anyway. Every time I go to Ottawa I have to stop and eat some of these scones! They are flavourful, flaky and delicious. With some of their jam and a cup of coffee, it's the perfect breakfast treat. This place is very tiny and gets crowded on the weekends but it's worth visiting.
The scone could have been better warmed up in egg sandwich and for price the side of fruit was a half a strawberry, a titch of orange and a tiny slice of watermelon.
Lovely choice of rolls with various additions: can be sweet with jam or can be with tuna, chees, salad; can be made of oat and can be with poppy seads. With various selection of coffee, tea or juce. Unfortunately it works only on the morning. The problem is also lack of space as it is going to be very popular place.... more
This is across the street from our hotel and became our regular breakfast spot. I have never had scones like this and would recommend it to anyone. The cucumber cream cheese sandwich is my favourite.
Nice quick, yummy breakfast for the eggwitch. Service is quick, though hipster guy behind the counter has a bit of attitude. Iced earl grey tea is lovely, average coffee. Go to Daily Planet for excellent lattes!
So instead of bread, this quaint little place uses scones, in various flavours, for its sandwiches. A novel if indulgent idea! I had the smoked salmon on dill scone with a big salad and a tea. Cute little well-lit place. Interesting menu but the scone was just ok, The coffee needs some work. A couple came in and asked for toast! Poor clerk had the unenviable job of trying to explain that they only serve scones. Haha!
Stayed at Albert at Bay suites and decided to try this for breakfast one morning! The scones were excellent, we enjoyed it so much we ate her for the next two breakfasts of our trip! Raspberry jam, devon cream and lemon poppy-seed scones, amazing! The only negative is it isn't super comfy in there..
Honestly, the best drip coffee I had in Ottawa and the scones were great. Inventive sandwiches just using the scones. Many people seemed to come for take-out but small area for eating in as well.
This is a small coffee shop specializing in savoury and sweet scones. It is a welcome change from hotel restaurants for breakfast/morning coffee. Try the vanilla scones with Devon cream and jam. Pared with terrific cup of coffee and the morning paper and you have a perfect start to your day.
I've been to England twice & ate an infinite amount of the thing (!) at various locations, and this place definitely succeed at getting it right: crisp "crust', and perfect moist interior. The scones are fresh and delicious but a bit pricey. Bought Half a dozen home, by the next day, they are not so good. So must eat the scones fresh, otherwise it is a waste of money.
