Clean rooms, air conditioning works great, reasonable prices, decent cable package with the ability to rent movies.
Update: people are extremely loud at night, and staff did nothing about it. Took away two stars as it was very frustrating.
Excellent experience! I will definitely plan on this being the place I hang my hat in Grand Prairie.
First time ever staying at any Sandman in my life. I usually stay at Best Western's. But my sister had booked through Expedia and this was the best deal. I don't like using those websites when I book, I find you get better the same if not better rates by booking through the property directly and sticking with one hotel... more
Needed to check in early for a variety of reasons and they were accomodating. Thanks. Ed and Char. :)
Disappointed with the exercise room. Stationary bike and stair climber both unserviceable. Location is good with many dinning and shopping options close by. Close to airport ($25 dollar cab ride). Staff friendly and room was clean.
Another pleasant stay although upgrades to wifi are badly needed. The hotel in general needs a refurbishment the whole building is looking tired. Staff as always very helpful and ready to help. All in all not a bad place to stay in grande prairie
Receptionists very nice and helpful. The room was OK. Clean and neat. The trains passing at night (10-15 meters from the window) were driving me crazy with its honking. 2-3 times a night. Want it or not you will wake up.Do not accept the room by the staircase. On the door (to the staircase) it's written that they lock it at 8 pm. Did not happen. Woke up several times during the night, when... more
Upon arrival, stopping out front to check in we found about a dozen people to the left of the entrance at the smoking area outside the bar at hotel and another half dozen or so to the right outside the Dennys.Nasty to navigate for those who don't smoke or have young kids as we did. Inside we found a barefoot... more
My first time to visit Grande Prairie. The hotel was located right at the centre of everything. It was located at the walking distance to Shark's club, 7/11, and Panago's pizza. I'd definately go back there again if I visit GP again in future.
If you are a light sleeper, I do not recommend this hotel. At 3:30AM, I was woken up by the rumble of the train and the train whistles. I'm glad I could fall back to sleep, but for others it may not be so easy. The room is dated with a 70s looking blanket, chairs, and furniture. Also the room gets very warm and there's AC but it takes a while to get it to cool the room. The room felt cooler but... more
I stayed in this hotel and glad it was just one night. The check in was quick and the employee was very friendly. Getting off the elevator on my floor, it felt like a sauna. In the room, it was the same! The wall thermostat was over 20 which I turned down and found a instructions by the AC on... more
The rooms are dirty and seem really old...not been updated at all. Carpet is dirty, bathroom lights flicker. The only good thing was the coffee. Oh ya...tried to take a shower this morning and there's not a drop of hot water! I'll update this review once the front desk lets us know what the General Manager is going to do... more
Some observations from my stay:
- Located close to train crossing so the train whistle is loud and frequent
- Ran out of hot water in the shower which also happened to a coworker the previous morning
- My "non-smoking" room reeked of smoke and had cigarette burns in the carpet
The hotel is showing its age, Bed and furniture are quite old, and the bed sagged enough that my wife and I rolled toward the center a few times in the night. For the price of the room we feel that we paid mostly for the location, and the Sandman name. The staff was friendly and very helpful in the... more
Spent one night so we could go to husbands Christmas party. Was nice we could check in about a hour earlier than their 4 o'clock check in time.We were in a smoking room as I am a smoker but their air freshener or cleaner was such a strong smell we had to open the window for some fresh air and when... more
Here's a list of the things we had to deal during our one-night stay at the Sandman in GP:- upon arriving, one of our keys did not work, the other took about 20 tries to open up the hotel room door (very frustrating after a long day of travel)- remote control missing- shampoo missing from bathroom- one of the two phones in room not working- a persistent clicking/tapping sound from the heating... more
I have stayed at this hotel about 15-20 nights in the last 3 years or so. I book it because I travel for work and our office is conveniently located across the parking lot. That being said, I’ve stayed in many rooms in this hotel and they all have one thing in common – outdated. The furniture is old and... more
Great location and driving distance to airport.Very friendly staff willing to help with any requests. Free wifi.Pet friendly.Clean and fresh. In room heat controls and air conditioner, if visiting in hotter months.Fridge & microwave with coffee percolator and cups with complimentary coffee and sugar/sweeteners and powder milk.A restaurant that opens at 6am & delivers room service at 8am. Wow. Travelling from Manitoba to grande prairie AB for 6 nights. Booked online with Expedia (great service there) BUT upon arrival first thing noticed is a broken table leg and homemade looking bedframe with a board sticking out on the one side. It's November, cold enough, add wind blowing in through the air conditioner in the wall! I used the... more
Not my first stay likely my last. The non smoking room smelled of smoke and cheap perfume. The train at 3:30 am was a early wake up call that seemed to last for over a half hour of horns and bells. No breakfast yet there is a Denny's in the lobby? Not worth the price.
You get what you pay for. No hotel security. Stayed there for a weekend and didnt like that there were people hanging out in the parking lot who approached my boyfriend asking for money. The room was nice but couldent rent movies on the tv for some reason.
I have been staying here over the years for business beacuse its close to good restaurants and the hospital. I like that a hotel where you can easily walk to get choice in restaurants and also that has one in case its too cold or I am tired. This one meets that with Earls , The Shark Club and nice... more
I have stayed at the Sandman in Vancouver and Winnipeg. This hotel pales in comparison to the others. The rooms are small and crowded. There is no bar fridge, so I could not store my food anywhere. I like to spread out when I travel, but the bathroom has no shelf space, so that wasn't possible. The hotel does have... more
Service was good, but the water would burn your eyes when you had a shower , the pool was very dirty, when you walk into the pool room the air would burn your eyes also,The fan in the bathroom does not work, pillows are not very comfy.
Located next to the train track, no green space, lots of colorful locals hanging out in the evening, even in the enclosed garbage area. However, the access to downtown amenities was nice. Secure elevators did't work properly, anyone could enter the floor using one elevator, the other required your key to get off on your floor. I had to request... more
We stayed here for 3 nights and there were some things that could be improved. The room was a nice size, beds comfortable but the TV reception was poor. The air conditioner was also very noisy so it could not be left on, just cool the room then shut it off. The desk staff were all very nice. It was... more
I have been staying at this hotel every couple of months for 7-8 years but no more.
It seems there is always something wrong. The pool was finally fixed after a year of freezing cold water, but there was absolutely no pressure to the hot tub jets. There was a burned out light bulb in my room. The WiFi is...

The website pictures show the good points. I was surprised to see no fridge or microwave in the room. The pool was cold, hot tub was too hot to be enjoyable, and the pool area all needed a good scrubbing. The room was small and warm. The a/c never seemed to cool it enough. The bathroom counter was very small... more
My stay here was rather pleasant and comfortable. Room was clean and quiet. Plenty of parking available.
The food @ the restaurant was good; good selection of choices, the lounge also has good quality food.VLT'S availble @ the lounge.
The staff at this establishment were also very helpful to meet your needs.

I walked in the front door and what's the first thing that happens? Nothing. I waited for 10 minutes for the front desk clerk to get off the phone. Once she got to me, she was effectively clueless but nonetheless got me my room key after a while. Got to the room and was greeted with a wall of heat... more
I have stayed at the Sandman hotel a few times in Grande Prairie and have had a good experience every time. The pool is nice and the Denny's is nice to have downstairs. The Denny's is always very busy but that is just the way things are in the hustle and bustle in G.P.
The hotel is showing its age and the restaurants on site are not up to the standards of other Sandman hotels. The WIFI was pretty good and the bed was fairly comfortable. The exercise room was fairly well equipped as well
Stayed here many times, best all round hotel in region with location, facilities and food and beverages. Been always able to get a room whenever we arrive late at night. Having bar one and Denny's in hotel is a benefit and with shark club and earls less than five mins away is very handy as well. Rooms always clean and... more
When I arrived to check-in the front desk clerk was in the bar - she had a sign out back in 5 minutes - and I waited 10 minutes. When I got to the room the themostat was turned off and the room was like a sauna - so I opened the window and caught a cold. On Sunday I... more
You get what you pay for but there are better deals. The property was quite dated with the exception of the lobby which was not bad. It's located in the downtown core which is good for shopping and restaurants. Close to the Chrystal Palace for concerts.
Staff were very friendly. Property is very centrally located but that brings on the unsavoury characters hanging around drunk right by the front door. If I needed to be close to everything and didn't have a vehicle I may stay here again but there are certainly nicer properties a short cab ride from downtown. The property is dated but has... more
Recently stayed at the sandman. My room was clean comfortable and had the king bed I requested. I will admit that it was a bit loud on the weekend with partying work crews, and this is also the reason the hallways are untidy. The work crews don't remove their dirty boots and track in mud. I did not have coffee... more
nice looking and great location but man there are two bard in stones throw of the hotel...not good for a Friday or Saturday stay here. A very good location though but not so much if your just looking for a good night sleep
Went there for a girls weekend and i had no complaints. The room was clean and the staff were really nice, plus it is a convenient spot to stay since dennys is right in the building as well as bar one.
Checked in. No resevation. So the gal at the counter (after waiting patiently a very long time. LONG TIME) asked the gentleman behind me if he had a reservation! So back to the line I GO!! Seriously folks. Back behind I go. My turn again comes. Receptionest is getting over-cold flu (she did not specify) coughed, pawed my ID and... more
Pros: close to centre of town, friendly staff, easy access to computer/printer, Denny's attached for breakfast
Cons: room needs updated (I stayed on main floor), bathroom fixtures need updated (look stained), old TV, old bedspreads, noisy - can hear people walking overhead and down the stairwells.
My one night stay turned into two, so I saw 2 rooms - slightly different experiences. First, the common elements.
I like the location - convenient to downtown - but then, nothing is a big drive in GP. The hotel is no longer brand new and updating is happening bit by bit. Despite not being the new kid on the...

The carpet was not vacuumed, there was stuff all over the carpet, for the price and the name behind this hotel, I expected more. Everything is outdated and the furniture is scuffed making the room look cheap, the wall paper is ripped in places. There is a huge gap in the ceiling and the room is dark and has a... more
Hotel was good and is in a good location at the centre of GP. The staff was nice and always acknowledged us when we were going and coming. The rooms were a bit small, but everything was always clean (we stayed for three nights in total). It's near the train tracks so you may experience some clanging and whistles in... more
The room was clean, bathroom was spacious and bed was comfortable. My only complaint are thin the walls, I could hear people above me and beside me in the next rooms. I would stay here again for buisness, I would probably stay somewhere else if I was in Grande Prairie shopping with my family.
Hotel was okay but it is a good location right in downtown GP, but my experience at the hotel was mediocre. The girl at the front desk the night that I checked in told me that I had to leave my Lucky 13 stamp card with her. Of course it went missing; if it didn't by the end of this... more
Stayed here for 5 weeks and had no issues but also nothing exceptional either. Decent room with a king bed, was clean and reasonably spacious. Parking was sometimes difficult due to the customers of Dennys and Earls next door taking all the parking.... more
We stayed at this hotel for a friend's wedding. It was easy to find and well located for the event even for us out of town folks. It was walking distance to many things, but we found parking to be a bit lacking. And for a town where it seems that 90% of people drive trucks, parking stalls could have... more
Very unfriendly desk staff. Room was somewhat clean ( hair in bathtub and mirror not clean) Furniture scuffed and old. Phone was broken and did not ring. The Sandman is a typical hotel for Grande Prairie. We stayed in a mini suite .... kingbed with a hide a bed type sofa. Bed was comfortable and the room was quiet.... trhat is all we really needed. Unfortunately I can't provide anything positive to say being that I woke up every time a train went by. A two long, one short and then one long whistle series at least three times when a train goes through what seems the front lobby.
Not a bad Hotel...Bring ear plugs!
Nice up to date room. Good location. Room size was a bit small and not much room to set up laptop, but was fine for short stay. Bed was comfortable.
The Sandman is smack dab in the center of downtown Grande Prairie, so there are lots of restaurants on site (Denny's & Earl's) and within a block. Also a lounge & sports bar on site, a liquor store across the street and 7-eleven nearby. It's about a 12 min. drive from the airport ($17 by taxi). Also on site is... more
This sandman property was great! we used our lucky 13th night and were upgraded to the honeymoon suite - this was great as it was our anniversary. For a free night, we were expecting to get gipped, but we were given the star treatment. The property itself was beautiful and clean - the elevator is a little rickety. The staff... more
This hotel has a great location in downtown GP. There are restaurants, stores, gas stations, grocery, bars etc nearby and it's located just off the main strip that heads to the airport.

The location was great for doing business, shopping and entertaining downtown. Will stay here next time in Grande Prairie.
overall decent stay. earls next door is convenient. it's not the quietest hotel, i was awoken at 3am with the suite below me blaring their tv and yelling.
Stayed here for one night while in grande prairie has all the amenities such as a restaurant and pub, Excellent staff and very spacious and comfortable rooms. Rooms have microwaves and fridges which many hotels lack. Pool and fitness centre are only open until 10pm however.
We had the best time at this hotel! we got the king size jaccuzi room it was a little pricey but it was worth every penny the room was beautiful and had everything that you could ask for.We ordered food from the bar downstairs great food, hugh servings and reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we will be... more
