When you visit Ruth's Chris, you soon understand that this is no ordinary restaurant. From the U.S. & ALBERTA Prime steaks, broiled to perfection at 1800 degrees, to the expertly executed seafood, New Orleans-inspired appetizers, unforgettable desserts and exceptional level of service, this is a steakhouse to which others aspire. Ruth’s Chris Steak House Calgary is in the heart of downtown,... more
This place is seroiusly pricey! Something like $12 for a side of fries, I kid you not. They give you 15lb of fried mind you, but is that really necessary? Must be an American chain to serve that much.
I couldn't believe this place. Perhaps if you've just won the lottery you'll come here for a steak that's really nothing special. It's just so expensive! Not worth it unless your business is paying for you to go out.
i don't know what people think is so special, this was 10 times as expensive as it should be.
This place has to be the most over-priced restaurant I've ever been to. Something like $40 for a strip loin, but it's not worth it. They advertise the unique cooking style, searing the meat with really high heat and using butter. Well you just get a steak like any other (we all thought) that has butter all over it, that cost way too much. Weird menu system for ordering meals and sides, and the side dishes are WAY over-sized that you'll MAYBE finish one if you share it with someone else. I was really disappointed in this place.
wow!!! that was the best. worth the extra money felt like a KING best service I ever had.
My Associate and I were at Ruth's Chris for lunch today. I was pleasently surprised. The steak was the best I have had in a while. I had the alberta Tenderloin cut and it melted in my mouth. I had heard that they were the most expensive in town, but for $27 my associate got a salad, a large stuffed chicken breast and 2 side dishes. The staff were experienced and prompt. I think I found a new lunch time favorite.
The location itself still holds fond memories for me and I’m glad that I can once again visit it and enjoy the quiet in a different sense. I just need to keep in mind not to order the... more
One of the best tenderloins Ive had...ever. Our bill with 5 guests amounted to over $400...but was well worth it! Yum!
The best steak place in Calgary. Wine and service were great as well. But i hate parking in dt ..... more
I love the sound of the sizzle and smell of steak and butter as it arrives to my table. Yummy!!!
For the price, the food should have been great, but I found the steaks and veggies very plain. Nothing wrong with the quality of the food, just plain. I can't believe they had the gall to charge me $16 for water without advising me that there would be a charge. The waiter just came to the table and asked if we preferred Still water or Sparkling. My bar bill was less than the water bill. We... more
In a city full of steakhouses, Ruth's offers a unique steak because it is actually IMPORTED USDA prime beef. I know, it may seem like heresy, but you've got to try these steaks...resting in brown butter, simply seasoned, just delicious. And the sauteed mushrooms are whole caps. How fun! And for quirky, try the sweet potato casserole as dessert. A la mode!!!
This is one of the best steakhouses I've ever eatin at. For the past 15 years I've been eating at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse from Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary to Cancun and I've always had fantastic service, amazingly tasty foods and a very pleasant dining experience. Now only if they'd come to Vancouver. Ever since Mortons Steak House closed, this city is lacking a 'great' steakhouse of this magnitude.
I have been to Ruth's Chris a few times, for a special occassion. I am a fan of a good steak, and Ruth's is unlike anything I've experienced in Calgary. The service is fantastic. They are very attentive, and skilled. The food is amazing. Steaks always melt in your mouth. The side dishes are wonderful. Creamed spinach is some of the best I've ever had. The desserts are made carefully and are so... more
My boyfriend and I recently dined at Ruth's Chris, both of us big steak lovers. We were seated in a nice two seater booth in the dining room. Our waiter was really friendly, he walked us through Ruth's Chris' unique menu and explained how our steaks were to be prepared. My boyfriend opted for the Alberta beef, which is exclusive to the Calgary and Edmonton restaurants, and I for the USDA filet.... more
I love the recent posts from people who are obviously associated with the restaurant. They only have one review in their history and it's a glowing one of this particular steak house. Most restaurants DON'T charge $8 for water so don't try telling me that's normal please.I will not step foot in this establishment for a few reasons. It's an American chain in a city landmark which is offensive. It... more
Average meat and potatoes for an astronomical price. A better idea is buying higher quality meat and preparing it the way you like it, and still paying a fraction of the cost. Not organic, or anything that even comes close. Unoriginal menu. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.
I usually really like The Keg. We went here when staying at The Fairmont. Bill was not cheap and charging $8.00 for a bottle of water ($16.00 as I drink sparkling and the wife drinks regular) is a little sneaky without being told. However the portions are huge so we had The Grill Mix (4oz Steak, Chicken, and Shrimp Skewers) asparagus and mashed potatoes. Also had 3 glasses of Pinot Noir (dont... more
I wanted to say I like the place, because I took a good friend, and the experience was good. The steak tasted great (I opted for the Alberta beef-not the USDA). However, 8.00 for a bit of mushrooms, 8.00 for spinach, 8.00 for potato, 8.00 for a bottle of water. 170.00 tab for two at the end of the night. If I do go back, it won't be very often at that price.
My Favourite meal at Ruth’s Chris? Start with the huge Shrimp Cocktail followed by the Ruth’s Chop Salad. Follow that up with the best and juiciest steak one could order and get the... more
Totally pretentious and stuffy with lacking food to boot. Their steak isn't seared over a fire grill, or even contact seared at all. It's just slathered in butter and thrown under a broiler. This translates into a $55 mid-rare ribeye which is well done through the top and bottom third of the steak, while staying raw in the center. The steaks are served with no sides, and presented on a dated... more
To celebrate Valentine's Day, hubby and I chose to have dinner at Ruth's Chris. We had been to one Ruth's Chris in Vegas a couple of years ago but we hadn't tried the Calgary location. We... more
First of all USDA beef? In Alberta? What a slap in the face to all the local farmers. We have hands down the best steak in North America, why the hell are we supporting this USDA imported beef? Secondly the presentation for the steak was terrible, it was on a white super heated plate, burnt bits of steak bits/butter, 55 bux for no garnishes no sides, just a giant piece of meat on a plate. The... more
In my opinion, Ruth’s is one of the best steakhouses in Calgary, even though it originated in New Orleans in 1927, long before it ever established its home at the base of the Calgary
Classy Decor , friendlly service, One of the best Experiences ive had at a steakhouse in calgary. I love how the servers decribe how the kitchen staff is going to cook it Chris Ruth steak house way. It was like a presntation on how to cook your meal, I loved that , The music was very slow though , it was like 10 of us and came here on a saturday night , Yet place looks so classy I think its... more
Some friends and I went here for their special New Years Eve Dinner and had a delightful experience! The service was great, our waiter was very knowledgable about the wine list and menu. The steaks! Probably the best that I have had in Calgary! Cooked to perfection, and interestingly enough, served with steak butter, which probably made my arteries scream, but my other senses were delighted.... more
I went expecting to be disapointed bur was actually very impressed with my meal. I would not choose to dine here on my own dime but I enjoyed my meal.
Each time we've gone to Ruth's Chris, we've left content. We always order the Porterhouse for two and two half side dishes and we are beyond FULL. The tenderloin side is incredible -- melts in your mouth. The striploin side obviously a little tougher but still good. A full order of the sides is usually too big for the two of us so we do half orders. Service is always good and the experience is... more
I had heard that Ruth's was expensive. A large chunk of meat and all else a la carte. Not quite true. Yes, it isn't cheap but for a special occasion, this is definitely the place to go. Warm, genuine staff. The best steak I have eaten in a long time. Beef is Canadian or USDA imported and cooked to perfection. Appetizers and side dishes are are unique and delicious. Dessert is enormous and to... more
Ruth Chris's does not have a good price/quality ratio. At all. The decor is nice - boring but very acceptable, and the wait staff was excellent. We had a small group lunch and the waiter gave the standard speech about the history of the steakhouse, and proceeded to explain how they only use corn-fed midwestern beef. HELLO? We are the land of excellent grass fed beef here. Cows don't eat corn.... more

horrible deep fat fried inedible piece of low rated USDA beef.
If you value good food accompanied by good value stay away from this restaurant The evening was truly a horrible experience in dining. Our reservation was timed to coincide with a theater date. When we arrived at the front door of RCS 530 note 530we were greeted by 4 staff. However we were required to wait 15 minutes to be seated. We were 1 of 3 couples in the restaurant. Next came the... more
