This business has a sign posted in their front window saying that it is an adult establishment and that only "well behaved" children are allowed.
I went here once with my well behaved children. We had a stroller. We were told that our stroller was a "fire hazard" and we were not allowed to enter. It was the middle of the day and there were at most three customers inside. This really happened.

Absolutely the worst service in the east end. Came in with my child and was immediately yelled at for having a stroller, not to mention I had to lift it up and in to just get in as they don't have a ramp, ( don't they need to be accessible?). Was spoken to like a child by a man with a white beard claiming to be a manager that strollers were a safety hazard, in case of fire.It seems this... more

Went tonight with my son. They have a nice beer selection in a very comfortable setting. I got a burger and fries and did receive a healthy slice of onion which I asked for. However, the burger itself was overdone. Supposed to be medium but was well done. Unfortunately, our server (Cynthia) never asked how things were, so it could not be rectified, and, in any case, I was very...

Was a regular at this excellent restaurant until I arrived for lunch with my new baby and they would not allow the stroller in. I totally understand this policy during peak dinner times but it was a weekday afternoon with only a few other customers in the bar, plenty of room.
Super disappointed that I will have to find a new local spot.
I was not a fanbland saladssoggy friesburnt piesfrozen bagged food
Wing night is always a winner (Monday nights and Wednesday nights). Food is always fresh and well prepared all week round though, be sure to check out the specials board.
The bartenders are always on top form and the service is always great. For this customer The Roy is for sure the pub with the most heart in Leslieville, maybe even the whole of Toronto!
Great pub. Just came in for a few beers and a plate of fries. Richard served us and was great.
A typical Irish Pub menu and everything was clean, including the bathrooms.
Great Irish pub with genuine and friendly staff. Great stuff
Cozy and well lit, a pretty hard combination to pull off. Friendly service and great food. Had beef ribs, the special of the day, it was a huge portion and really good. All in all, a classic neighbourhood pub that I'd be happy to be a regular at if I lived in the East End.
Loved this place. I read through many of the reviews before we went and I didn't have high hopes. I mean, the food was ok. Fish and Chips were a little dry, but to be fair I asked for it all well done. Curry was more like pulled meat, but it wasn't bad. I love the layout and the snug at the back. It's what a real pub ought to be. I wish there were west end places like this instead of all the... more
I ordered the Publican salad with grilled steak. The steak was cooked perfectly! The server was awesome. Loved it!
Wings one month ago: asked for very saucy, got exactly that, and fat and meaty to boot. Some of the best I've ever eaten. One month later: asked for very saucy and got bone dry and shrivelled. What a difference a month makes!
Came here the other night which happened to be wing night, so I pretty much repeated the same meal I had last time I reviewed this place. For $8.50, I had a pound of hot wings. I added on fries which were okay flavour-wise though I found them a little tough. The wings, however, were perfect. Crispy but not to the point of jerkey. Some sauce but not slimy. Spicy but not melt your face off. I am... more
Nondescript mock English pub (because we don't have enough of those in the city).
I've stopped in here maybe a half-dozen times over the years, almost exclusively for drinks. Came for breakfast one time and the service was atrocious, so I haven't bothered trying that again.
Just moved back to the east end after five years in the west, and ended up stopping by for a drink tonight. Was...

This is my third time I've been here.
My previous experience was terrible. A years ago I had nachos and it was the worst ever.
And I came here with my friend last week. We had wings and some drinks. Bar was busy and food was pretty good. Service was good. I will be back again for sure
This place is awesome for brunch. There's never a line, the food is delicious, and he wait staff are polite and quick. What more can you ask for?
The veggie burgers here are ideal. Caesars are decent here, and lot's of craft beer if that's what you're into. Not a lot of booths, but nice overall.
This was my second time at The Roy. Remembered it was wings night and was in the area so decided to venture inside for a snack.
We ordered the Honey Garlic wings and some calamari. The wings were fairly good with a good amount of sauce (not too saucy, not too dry) and each piece was fairly large compared to some other places I've been. The calamari was not bad and came in a fair portion. I've...

This pub does not know how to pull a pint of Guinness. I watched them pull the whole pint at once, and they didn't even fill the glass...almost an inch from the rim, then immediately brought it to the table. Plus the stout tasted strange. It was sweet, not dry, and the head was discoloured. Pretty sure it was either a bad batch or maybe they don't clean their taps very often. An Irish pub who... more
Popped in for a quick bite and to watch the last few innings of the Jays game. I sat at the bar, ordered a pound of hot wings for $13. I don't mind paying $13..$14 even $15 dollars for a pound if the wings are good. I was served 7 medium sized wings with sauce on them but by no means could it even be medium. Def the smallest pound of wings i've ever seen (how is that even possible LOL) The only... more
This was our 6th time here in about 6 years. We stopped coming to this place because one of the servers (older male with short grey hair and goatee) was arrogant. We ventured in today because we didnt see him working. We had a couple of pints and ate, the food is alright not superb but alright. We were served by a nice guy that moved to Toronto from Australia, the service was excellent, the... more
Food was awesome. Showed up at 11:30 and only a few people around. Took awhile to get seated. Once we received the food it was awesome! Everything tastes awesome. Would definitely come back. Worth the wait.
Came for lunch on a Tuesday. Had the Roy burger. Very nicely done. Service was good (but it wasn't busy). Ref previous comments: Screaming babies don't do it for me in a pub. This is not the UK. That's why, when mine were babies, I took them somewhere else. Also, virtually every restaurant on the planet has a note on the menu about gratuities on larger groups. Get over it/get out more often.... more
Awesome pub. Great service, good grub, clean, low music and friendly atmosphere, unpretentious.
The only thing I'd change is widen the draft beer selection and maybe add a few outliers. Looking forward to going back.
Great spot to hang out with friends over a few brews.
Horrible service. I cant believe how bad it really is.It unfortunate ownership doesn't read (or care) about these reviews. It will catch up with them. Customers have more options. Ownership: times have changes, you need to treat people better, customers will stop coming.
Was supposed to meet 5-6 people there and I got there 15mins late and asked if I wanted to sit with the group. Was not notified of a 18% gratuity because if I did, I would have sat somewhere else.
Food was ok, service average.
Vowed NEVER to go there again.
When I asked why the 18% the server simply said that it was in the menu.
What kind of place thinks they are entitled to an 18% tip with avg...

First of all, to those who complained that The Roy doesnt allow babies inside - Thank God that it doesnt!! Take your stupid brats elsewhere, I love this place because its grown-ups only, everywhere else you go in Leslieville for brunch or dinner you can be sure its gonna be filled with crying, screaming, spoilt poop machines. You have plenty of places in Leslieville where you can take your... more
My favourite pub in Toronto hands down and I've been to a lot. Not the greatest beer selection if you need local crazy hoppy beer, which I don't. However if you want an authentic Irish pub for a pint of Guinness and fantastic food this is the spot. The burgers are awesome, cob salad is great... Too much to list actually. I've had almost the whole menu and would order everything again.
I seem to be eating in a lot of restaurants lately that just seem ho hum. We shared a chicken quesadilla and a cobb salad. Absolutely nothing to write home about or get us back. I'd probably go back for a glass of wine or beer at the bar, but food, no thanks.
Young Children Not Welcome
Wanted to go to the Roy on Sun evening around 7 pm. Wife and I had a stroller with our 8 month old. We were immediately stopped at the door by staff who said "no strollers" allowed "you have to leave it outside". A fine welcome indeed. Being flexible, we said ok, but do you have a high chair for the baby? "No" was the answer. So you don't allow strollers, and you...

Great wings.. Big and crispy. Love going to this spot in Leslieville. The selection of local craft beer is usually decent.
Living super closeby, my girlfriend and I are here quite a lot. While the food is a cut above the average pub, and they have a decent beer selection, I have to say that the service here is some of the best I've seen in a while. They're very helpful, and quick to anticipate your needs - also super friendly! Wing night's a good night :)
Anyone looking for a change from the typical Leslieville brunch experience needs to give this place a go. Don't get me wrong, I love most of the classic brunch places in the neighbourhood, but sometimes you just want a change from huge line-ups, cash-only policies, and rushed service. The Roy provides a delightful relaxing alternative. We felt quite smug as we scooted straight into The Roy and... more
Horrible. My fiance and I stopped in for a glass of wine and sat at a table deep in a quiet and happy conversation. We were holding hands and twice in an hour and a half, my fiance leaned over and gave me a peck on the lips. Just a half-second peck. We were given the bill and told to leave. Kicked out by a horrible waiter and absolutely despicable bartender who explained that "The Roy is a... more
Great food, including Scotch eggs, good beer, British Pub feel inside and good location to meet friends
While visiting my sister and brother in Toronto I was taken to their favourite Sunday night restaurant. Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding traditional dinner was the best I've had. Get there early as it sells out early. Can't wait to return and try the specials on other nights. The waiter was very helpful and attentive.
During our second, recent visit, staff went running after a lady who'd forgotten her bag behind. The food was good, the service better and we will be back. And the music was kept at a suitably low volume, so conversation was easy. Way too many T.O. pubs play their music too loud. I am done. The end.
This place is great. Not a big menu but you can always find something good.
Excellent staff! You are always welcomed there.
The Roy is unpretentious, reliable, friendly. A pub that doesn't feel the need to be trendy...without being grungy. But it also has a pretty decent menu. For lunch, I had blackened cod, which was quite good. Oh, and an ale, of course. And why wouldn't I be quite content? Once again, the Roy didn't disappoint.
we stopped in one day...and we loved this place...
we will be back..and probably often..thanks to all the staff and good food
A friendly little pub with good food and a fun, diverse mix of patrons. A welcoming environment and great service thanks to the great bartender and the owner. Typical pub food but it's good!
One star for c@!%!y customer service. I have been going to the roy since it opened but no more. my last visit was on one of the many wing nights ive gone to the roy. i asked to have my uneaten wings to go. nope cant do it i was told. no take out. now yes some wing night places do not allow take out and some do allow it. since there was no notice of "no take out" on the outside sign, the inside... more
Popped in here with a fellow Brit as we wanted a late lunch snack. Felt dark and sort of homey like a pub from back home and had a slight smell of beer. Which to us was nice! A bit clean for a pub though. Bar lady was very nice and let me try a couple of beers before I... more

An excellent local. Good selection of beers, and they seem to clean and maintain their taps very well, because the pints taste very fresh and clear. Also a decent selection of whiskeys behind the bar.

Friday night and my friend and I are out for a "pint" - and stumble, yes we had a drink before going out - into the Roy. This Irish pub - cute, thick with dark wood tones, and yellowish lighting. The beers were cold - and could actually have a conversation.
I've been coming to this Leslieville delight every few months since opening about 4 years ago. The service is consistently excellent and the food, while traditional pub fare, is well prepared, tasty and generous of portion.
I've come with a large (sweaty) group after a road race, with a friend for a bottle of wine and solo for a quick...

Ate there two weeks ago late at night. Arrived asking if I could get a balanced meal (meat and veg) and was told I could. Sat down and was given my beer and the late night menú. Not a vegetable in sight. Had the sotch egg (not very good) and the hummous -- which is not hummus at all, but... more
I've been to The Roy a bunch of times now, and I like the feel of the place. The first couple times I might have given the Roy 3 stars, but the place has really grown on me now.
Good decor and atmosphere. The helpful chalkboard-O'-beers, a picture of the Queen with her eyes closed, decorative brass plates with sailing ships on them, a cozy fireplace, this place has all the good stuff.

Get there early if you want the roast. We've been a few times now and have been disappointed once when we were too late and the roast was sold out. Great beer choices, it is a pub after all. The Roy is a neighborhood hang-out in the Leslieville section of Toronto. My wife and I went there as the last stop on a culinary walking tour given by Culinary Adventure Co. They have great local beer, a nice English-pub style atmosphere, and if you stop in there on any given evening, you'll probably be joined by a bunch of... more
This Leslieville destination offers all the charm of a classic Irish pub. Packed with a range of clientele, the place serves large portions of simple and traditional pub fare like fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, and chicken pot pie, as well as a few lesser known dishes, such as curry chips and scotch eggs. These menu items, among a number of others, are created by Chef “Big John” Moffat, who... more
