NO.1
Ambiance et service de grande qualité. Plats très diversifiés et de grande fraicheur. Restaurant très agréable pour un déjeuner d'affaire ou évènement.
I had made the reservation for Sol Mar more than a month before I read the reviews on this site and the ratings and I was sure it would be good. I called back a week before to confirm the number of people and everything seemed fine Mr David called me the same day Dec 5th to make sure we would be there and everything seemed fine: However the restaurant was under renovation a sign was on the... plus
If you love seafood you will love this place. Menu had an excellent choice of Portuguese dishes at reasonable prices. Food was very flavorable and very well cooked. My wife said the oysters were the best she's ever had. The only downfall was that it took a little while to get our food, but I guess it takes time to... plus
Steak was good, vegetables were fresh and not over cooked, but I will say for a restaurant in Old Montreal it was unremarkable. This was not terrible, but there are much more interesting places to eat for the price.
This place should warn people about the time they take in serving you even the most simple dishes, it was not even full and in more than 2 hours they were not able to service our table properly. We had to leave with an empty stomach as the food never came in, our night was ruined, and we didn't even... plus
We had dinner here on our last night in Montreal 7/24/14. Solmar was perfect. It is not an easy place to find. It sort of hides in plain sight. Where many restaurants have upstairs & downstairs dining areas. Solmar is upstairs and a totally different restaurant,- but I believe related,- (La Sauvagine) is downstairs. Solmar is located UPSTAIRS right on... plus
Cold, overcooked and bad quality food, expensive. Nice location but nothing else, average to good service. If you like to eat, simply don't go!!!
Everything started well but the kitchen was very slow, extremely slow, wrecked up all my plans. Doubt I will ever come back. Should you decide to come, do it with 3-4 hours of whatever thing you want to do next, and maybe, just maybe you will be on time
The service is good, but the food is terrible, the fish was cold, the bread served was old and hard. It's too expensive for the food offered. Disappointed!
We were the first group in the restaurant on a Sunday night. Other people that came after us got served and we waited and waited for our drinks and food. We waited over two hours and one of the 7 people in our group never got her meal! The waiter was unattentive, and the owner did nothing when he asked... plus
Food was great and well priced. portions were fair and service was very good. went back twice and will go again.
The restaurant was dead on a Saturday night yet our food was cold!!! The service was terrible the waiter was rude ... One of the plates we order was supposed to come with mushrooms but the cook forgot to put them and when we asked for them they brought a mushroom sauce and they added it on the plate although... plus
Old style service but the best part.
Food was very ordinary, too expensive for the price
Since I have to write at least 100 characters I will add that we will not return
My husband and I ate here on a Friday night early August. Service very attentive and helpful. Excellent selection of Portuguese wine. Great selection of bread, very tasty cod mains and good deserts. Good number of other diners. Music at about the right level. We would recommend this restaurant.
After reading the critics of the restaurant on the app, we decided with my family (5) to go there. We enjoyed very much the fish and the meat! In a word, a really good moment in family!
Our group of seven enjoyed their meal thoroughly, and any questions we had about food or port were answered with excellent recomendations. Our group members' arrival was poorly synchronized, but we were treated just as attentively as if we had been on time. The atmosphere was only spoiled temporarily by the first singing and musical performance who relied on sound... plus
We came to this restaurant on our last night in Montreal and it was a wonderful experience. We were the first couple in the restaurant and the waiter was so attentive and informative of the cuisine. He suggested the "Cataplana" as our main course and it was delicious (seafood and rice baked together). I would highly recommend this restaurant.
The worst restaurant in Montreal as far as service and courtesy is concerned.
The waiter messed up our order, we paid more than the asking price and when we complained to the Manager, all that we got was "Sorry", but no refund due to their mix-up. We visit Montreal in groups of 16 to 20 people, this is the last place we will ever visit. We never had any problems at the other restaurants.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening! The waiter was very attentive and the food was wonderful. The reataurant is upstairs not to be confused with the patio on the street.
We visited this restaurant while in Montreal. We sat outside - very nice table and it was fun to watch the world go by in scenic Old Montreal. Service was good and friendly although we did have to wait quite a while for our bill at the end. ( Why don't restaurant managers train their staff on this simple issue... plus
Outside seating in the middle of Old Montreal, so great for soaking up the atmosphere & people watching. Varied menu, with reasonable prices.
Food was excellent. I had the lamb rack whilst Mrs Pipes had the lobster. They also had Portuguese beers available which we greatly appreciated and enjoyed. Decor seemed very busy and dated. Service was good and attentive. We did have an issue with the waiter at the end of the night who failed to bring us our change. I can... plus
Good value for money!! with lobster, scallops, mussels and shrimp, more than sufficient to 1 person quantity,. Nice and quiet place. Must return when visit Montreal again.
Really great food and ambience. Plenty of choice - all served up on little plates. Good prices, wine fairly pricey
THE DECOR, THE FOOD, THE FADO WAS EXCELLENT if you like Portugese food, authentic and are in old mtl visit here trust me you will not be disappointed!
As my boyfriend and I entered the restaurant, we were a bit skeptical since it was almost empty (there was only one other couple in the restaurant on a Saturday night). We decided to stay. And we certainly did not regret it! The service was beyond excellent (shoutout to Manuel!) and the food was delicious. As previously stated, the decor... plus
We really loved the meal we had at Solmar. They need to get a decent website, but hopefully one day... ;o)
We started with the garlic shrimp to share, and they were delicious. Our mains were the filet mignon Portuguese style, which got a rave review and veal scallopini with madeira sauce (after the waiter discouraged me from ordering the...

We enjoyed our dinner at Solmar with friendly attentive staff, tasty dishes and a jazz singer and pianist on a Monday night. Has the house salad, veal and chocolate mousse.
The selection between tapas, entrees, appetizers, wine and dessert was fantastic. My husband and I went there for a nice ($$-$$$) dinner our last night in Montreal. In the heart of Rue Saint Paul next to one of the areas' Les 3 Brasseres locations. Waiter was extremely friendly, food was delicious and atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for... plus
There is not much to say about Solmar except if you're in the mood for Portuguese food done as it should be this is the place to go. The service is outstanding, attentive without being over bearing. The next time my wife and I are in Montreal we will be having diner hear.
I've been to many Portuguese restaurants in Montreal but this one is by far the best. The decor, service and food is 100% authentic. The sopa de feijao verde (green been soup) tasted exactly the way it does in Portugal; as did our pork with clams and dessert. Best of all, it's in the heart of Old Montreal and you... plus
I'm not sure why this place isn't busier. We were one of two tables on a Wednesday night at 730pm.
Food was delicious and the service was great! Best filet mignon we've ever had ($32). Decor is a bit outdated, perhaps traditional Portuguese looking.
A beautiful restaurant with great service and excellent food. We loved the bread and the soup but the steaks that we had were truly amazing - perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was a special item, so not on their standard menu but hopefully it will be there when we return. The staff were kind and helpful, attentive without being intrusive.... plus
We were in Montreal not more than an hour when we set out to find a place for dinner. We were walking up and down St. Paul street when someone asked us if we needed help. It was the waiter at Solmar. At first, we were skeptical because there was not one person in the restaurant but thought, hey, we... plus
It seems like the restaurants upstairs on Rue St Paul are not frequented as much, but I'm glad we discovered Solmar. The waiter steered us to a delicious paella-like dish. We had a window seat overlooking the street. Live music added a bit to the ambience.
I chose Solmar for my birthday gathering primarily because of the gorgeous and traditional ambiance (I love the plates, the cutlery...) and the live fado music. Our waiter was a darling, and he really made the night. The food, as usual, was delicious authentic Portuguese cuisine.
I think the reason why Solmar is not as busy as it should be...

What a delightful night! I enjoyed the food (the sardines in olive oil are excellent!), the service and the settings. The fado band was the cherry on the cake!
For our wedding anniversary , this resturant was the perfect choice!
My friend and I were a little intimidated as we walked in because we were the only clients there. We shouldn't have been - the waiter was amazing, helpful gentleman who gave us amazing service and the Portuguese food was great.
The decor was warm and inviting and the live music was really good, the only lower note was the...

Strange that no review for the last few years, but definitely a place to go if you like Portuguese (Brazil) food or just really unique seafood. A bit on the pricey side since the dishes add up.
Wife went light, and did two different tapas dishes plus salad. Duck in figs (not sweet) and a shrimp in garlic, which she...

Best place for Sardines and oysters!! great service
