Average for Old Montreal

Steak was good, vegetables were fresh and not over cooked, but I will say for a restaurant in Old Montreal it was unremarkable. This was not terrible, but there are much more interesting places to eat for the price.

Really bad food

Cold, overcooked and bad quality food, expensive. Nice location but nothing else, average to good service. If you like to eat, simply don't go!!!

Didn't live up to expectations

Everything started well but the kitchen was very slow, extremely slow, wrecked up all my plans. Doubt I will ever come back. Should you decide to come, do it with 3-4 hours of whatever thing you want to do next, and maybe, just maybe you will be on time

Disappointed

The service is good, but the food is terrible, the fish was cold, the bread served was old and hard. It's too expensive for the food offered. Disappointed!

Don't go here if you ever want to eat

We were the first group in the restaurant on a Sunday night. Other people that came after us got served and we waited and waited for our drinks and food. Excellent service combined with tasty food

My husband and I ate here on a Friday night early August. Service very attentive and helpful. Excellent selection of Portuguese wine. Great selection of bread, very tasty cod mains and good deserts. Good number of other diners. Music at about the right level. We would recommend this restaurant.

Excellent Portuguese food

After reading the critics of the restaurant on the app, we decided with my family (5) to go there. We enjoyed very much the fish and the meat! In a word, a really good moment in family!

Portugese delight

We came to this restaurant on our last night in Montreal and it was a wonderful experience. We were the first couple in the restaurant and the waiter was so attentive and informative of the cuisine. He suggested the "Cataplana" as our main course and it was delicious (seafood and rice baked together). I would highly recommend this restaurant.

The worst restaurant in Montreal as far as service and courtesy is concerned.
The waiter messed up our order, we paid more than the asking price and when we complained to the Manager, all that we got was "Sorry", but no refund due to their mix-up. We visit Montreal in groups of 16 to 20 people, this is the last place we will ever visit. We never had any problems at the other restaurants.

Wonderful Food

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening! The waiter was very attentive and the food was wonderful. The reataurant is upstairs not to be confused with the patio on the street.

Good value for money!! with lobster, scallops, mussels and shrimp, more than sufficient to 1 person quantity,. Nice and quiet place. Must return when visit Montreal again.

Wonderul Portugese place on Rue Saint Paul

There is not much to say about Solmar except if you're in the mood for Portuguese food done as it should be this is the place to go. The service is outstanding, attentive without being over bearing. The next time my wife and I are in Montreal we will be having diner hear.

I'm not sure why this place isn't busier. We were one of two tables on a Wednesday night at 730pm.
Food was delicious and the service was great! Best filet mignon we've ever had ($32). Decor is a bit outdated, perhaps traditional Portuguese looking.

Incredible Experience

A beautiful restaurant with great service and excellent food. We loved the bread and the soup but the steaks that we had were truly amazing - perfectly cooked and seasoned. Wonderful old world charm

It seems like the restaurants upstairs on Rue St Paul are not frequented as much, but I'm glad we discovered Solmar. The waiter steered us to a delicious paella-like dish. We had a window seat overlooking the street. Live music added a bit to the ambience.

What a delightful night! I enjoyed the food (the sardines in olive oil are excellent!), the service and the settings. The fado band was the cherry on the cake!
