Probably the best resto in Q city, and has been awarded such several times.
I had vacation in Eastern Canada for 10 days, and this one is absolutely the best of all the restaurants I visited during the vacation. I tried the discovery menu which covers most of the signature dished. The first course (sea food trilogy) was just above the average, but the following courses were truly amazing. The foie gras was really... more
We travel quite often and have too many experiences of restaurants who have good food but no ambiance, good service but average food, excellent food but hurried service etc. Even if everything else about the restaurant works, there is seldom a case where all courses of the meal are faultless.
Enter Le Saint-Amour Quebec city, which we visited in March...

This restaurant embraces the most important qualities in fine dining with superior results. The ambiance and decor was visually stunning. The food quite tasty and served with much thought and interesting presentation. The service is the best i have ever experienced on a global basis.
Well worth the prices!!
Service is second to none, the food is superb! The atmosphere is wonderful
Probably the best restaurant in Quebec city. For sure in the top five. The prices are a little steep but it is all forgotten the moment you taste something.
My husband and I went here 2/20/2012. Ambiance fabulous, service impeccable, but for the life of me I can't recall what I ate. Maybe the place was TOO romantic, the food was really good, but not to die for. It was good, and it's expensive. I go to Quebec City once a year, and I'm glad I went here, but with so many places to try....not sure I would go back, until I visit the numerous offerings... more
the service is wonderful even we came so late, the waiter still let us as long as we can stay.
Apparently, Montreal and Quebec City have a restaurant "war" over bragging rights for best places to eat. Montreal probably has more than Quebec, but this place is as good as any of the top restaurants in Montreal. I loved the amuse bouche and attention to detail and service. The wine list was outstanding (not that I could deconstruct it) and the menu is an innovative take on traditional... more
What a great restaurant!! It was my second time at St-Amour restaurant, and will not be the last. I went for a romantic dinner the first time and we were four thi time. It was both times a great gastronomic experience! We took the menu Dégustation and each service was a great surprise. One suggestion; a wine pairing added to the menu would be a plus! When you have many services, you want to... more
Had dinner at Le Saint-Amour in mid-February 2012 with my husband. We choose the restaurant based on the good food reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was well prepared and very tasty. Don't expect a quick or cheap meal - but save some room for coffee and dessert if you can because it may have been the best... more
Great room, friendly service, amazing wine list and food to die for ! If you're not on a budget, this is the place to go, better than Toque and Chateau Frontenac.
Great French food . The prix fix with wine was fantastic. Service was the best. In the old city. equal to the best in new Orleans or San Francisco.
If you have some time in front of you and you are in for some nice food then the Saint-Amour is a very nice place (specially in the summer with the private inside terrasse). If you are in a hurry, go somewhere else. The service is slow, even if the place is almost empty! I have been there many time... more
Wonderful restaurant, a hit on all aspects of fine dining. Accommodated my vegetarian girlfriend with a tasting menu without advance notice and she loved it. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive but remained professional. The food was excellent and the presentation was beautiful. Was originally concerned room would be too "kitchy" but it wasn't and actually it was very nice in a throw back way.... more
Amazing food, service and ambiance. Our group was very impressed.
A beautiful restaurant with wonderful food, and staff that truly make a special ocassion special!
Once again this restaurant does not disappoint. Exceptional quality of food and service. A bit on the pricey side but worth it on our trip.
Very on the fence about the 5th star here. Food was amazing (if it doesn't creep you our, say yes to the foie gras sampler!!) and the setting is indeed modern french with rouge everything and giant ceilings and hanging plants galore. The service wasn't of the "let me take care of that before you even think to ask" kind but I think they are going for a slightly less formal feel. Our servers... more
Very good food featuring wonderful local ingredients and attentive service but very expensive. Excellent wine list but you have to be over $200 for something very good.
This is by far the best value for great food in Quebec. After eating at Panache and Initiale recently, we still keep coming back to Le Saint Amour for great food and wine at a reasonable price. The service is great, though the ambiance could be better (but then again they have been in the same location for 20+ years).
I chose this restaurant based on the reviews, but sincerely it exceeded my expectations!!!... Everything was Awesome! The Foie Gras was delicious!!... The other appetizer we ask was the artichokes, and its was excellent too!!... My main dish was the deer and it was the best I've ever tried!!!.... Also, you can find a lot of different wines!!... They have a good variety of wines. Additionally... more
Absolutely beautiful restaurant, service was a wee bit too formal as they took forever to take our order, I think they wanted us to peruse the menu to be impressed. It is expensive. All in all a nice expensive evening out.
Came to Quebec City for a brief visit. Had a great meal here. One of the locals states this was "a must, not to be missed." It was great. Service was very slow though. 3 hours for 3 courses.Would rank it just below Panache and just above Laurie Raphael where we also ate.
Wanted to taste Quebec foie gras. We had the assorted plate of 7 different preparations. Paired with a great wine: a french winery, grown in California, using an italian grape. worked for us.Main course: ordered the red deer. Cooked to a medium-rare perfection, to be expected. The au jus sauce was great . My husband had the rack of lamb encrusted with pistachios and hazelnuts pressed potatoes... more

This place is picture perfect. Portions are just right, the food is nothing short of delicious, the ambiance and service are wonderful. I had read about this on Chowhound and had very high expectations - it exceeded them all. A special shout out for our waitress - she was just wonderful. Expensive and worth every penny.
I was told this was the best restaurant in Old Quebec. Nestled in a building on a side street in Old Quebec City, it was quaint and lovely. After reading a couple of reviews, we decided to have the foie gras seven ways. It was fantastic. Foie gras truffle, foie gras maccaroon, foie gras creme brulee...amazing. I also ordered the deer (cerf), which was also well done and very filling. The wait... more
Hmm, can you give a place 6 stars? This place fits into the 'all time best meals of my life' category. Every dish was a flavour explosion and complete wonder. The foie gras brought us here. We had the assorted plate of 7 different preparations. I don't remember all the specifics, but they were all total food experiences in themselves. It took 37 minutes (thanks to time-lapsed photography) to... more
Over all a very good dinning experience for us. A little bit on the pricey side but nothing really to pick on, and very memorable taste, will go again.
It use to be our favorite restaurant... But now it's too expensive. Food is good but i guess that they are targeting the tourist, not the local!
Let's just say that this place was beautiful with a very well-trained waitstaff....but extremely expensive for the dinner experience, including waiting almost an hour on an off-season Saturday night for our end-of-evening cab ride that had to be summoned several times by the maitre'd before one actually showed up -- to one of the most EXPENSIVE restaurants in town. Now don't get me wrong. The... more
Venturing down into the walled-off old city of Quebec is always a treat, and there are so many great places to eat. It feels to me like what it would have felt like to walk around Paris hundreds of years ago.... except without all the poverty and wars happening.Anyway, Le Saint Amour is a restaurant trying to figure out if they want to serve traditional french cuisine, or new-style Gourmand... more

...to begin the meal was a foreshadow of how excellent everything else would be. Service is impeccable, food is a gastronomic feast. We ordered the smaller of the table d'hote and it was more than plenty. This is the kind of place where you spend three hours and the food is really an event both in terms of quality and subtlety. Make sure your wallet is thick with bills because, though it was... more
Over rated. Food was good, not great. It is a very nice place, but given the price and the other ratings I expected more. My wife and I went there for our 10 year wedding anniversary and we were looking forward to a top notch dinner, unfortunately we it was just a good dinner for a very expensive price.
C'est magnifique! One of the best meals my husband an I have had anywhere in the world. We both ordered the tasting menu and asked the waiter to suggest wines for each course. He brought glasses of wine and twice brought us each 2 half-glasses to compare. We often find when ordering tasting menus that some courses are very good while others are just... ehh... but not here. Each and every part... more
Unbelievably good experience. We went with two young kids and they could not of been more accommodating. I had the consomme made with a Parmesan and truffle emulsion with duck confit ravioli and foie gras cubes. This was one of the best dishes I have ever had. The rest of the meal was great. A must if you are looking to splurge in Quebec.
This place is SLOOooow. I guess that's OK if you are in a large group who haven't seen each other for a while and have lots of things to talk about (there were several of these types of table in the dining room). However if you are a couple who are tired and hungry after a long day of walking and cycling it is less than ideal.Expect at least an hour between the entrée and the main course (I... more
Stopped at Le Saint-Amour for a nice lunch on our final day in Quebec City. As previous reviewers have stated, the food is outstanding, so I won't rehash the obvious. However I'd like to add my two cents on how welcoming the staff were to us despite the fact that we had our 5-year-old in tow. I know lots of parents of young kids forego nicer meals for fear of the dreaded meltdown, but... more
this place is elegant with old world charm as you might expect to find in a fine european restaurant. on shorts and sneakers, went there for lunch with husband and 20 yr old son based on reviews from fellow yelpers. we enjoyed our food so much from the appetizers to desserts. i chose the raspberry dessert and it was fabulous. we had the deer steak, fillet mignon and scallops for our main... more
Food was exquisite! great ambience. best French cuisine I have ever had. Must Visit when in Quebec!
Great restaurant.Food is inventive, generally local, prepared with precision and passion. I had a salmon carpaccio with snow crab salad, which was lovely. Roe topped it off nicely. For main I ate a filet of red deer, which was perfectly done, set off with sour red berries and blueberries; sauteed mushrooms and truffled potato mash were very tasty accompaniments. My wife ate a tuna dish with... more
We went here for a special dinner on Christmas Eve. The ambiance was wonderful. The food was spectacular, and the service was very good. We had the Christmas Eve dinner which was four courses, with different options for each one. Everything was great, despite them being packed and it being Christmas Eve. One little dissapointment was that I opted out of one of the courses but they still charged... more
We had the seared Foie Gras to start based on the waiter's advice. Didn't really know what it was until afterwards.. but I can say it was the best tasting thing I've ever had. We also had the Lamb Rack, Scallops and Sea Bass. All were fantastic. All and all it was an amazing meal and an amazing two and a half hour experience. Will definitely go back next time I'm in QC
Another 5 Star review. I ordered from the "Inspiration" menu and it was outstanding.
Since there are already such true to heart reviews on this place, I'm just gonna say that the Inspiration Menu is the way to go! This place is awesome all around.
Oh la-la! This French restaurant is definitely the best I've ever been to. I highly recommend the froi gras and the red deer. The froi GRAS is prepared so well... It is so tender and juicy. This restaurant definitely set a new standard for me.
Our hotel concierge said this is the best french restaurant in all of Quebec. He went on to describe some meals he's had there. Lovely chap!It would be hard for me to compare this restaurant to others in Quebec since I was only there a week but I can compare it to other meals I've had here in the bay area. The dinner we had here was fantastic. It would do really well in highly competitive... more
Overall, I think this was my favorite restaurant in Québec City. It's in Vieux-Québec (Haute-Ville), but it's away from the main drag and unlikely to be found unless you already know about it. The first time we went was for lunch, and it was absolutely lovely. The dining area is like an indoor garden with skylights letting the sunshine through. The decor was elegant and comfortable, and the... more
Superior dining in a classy setting, Le Saint Amour should not be missed when in QC. The best part is that is not overly touristy like so many other places in the city. Unobtrusive on the outside, the restaurant has a small, but welcoming front hall and reception area that seems more like a traditional inn than a restaurant. Several dining rooms take up the space (including smaller and more... more
Magnificent in every way. The most beautiful Belle-Epoque dining room, superb service and sublime food. I especially recommend their "six ways to enjoy foie gras."
This well-established French restaurant in the Old City has won several awards for its simply exquisite cuisine.
