Very bad experience.

Waited an hour and a half for our first course. We were using a group on and were definitely treated as if we weren't a full paying customer. We were served last after the entire restaurant. Not really our waitress fault but management.
When we brought up the long wait issue to the manager we were told "its saturday night, we are busy and you guys are using a groupon"

Great sushi and service, but some might consider it to be a little pricy. I really loved their tempura appetizer, it was hot and crunchy when it got to the table. Yum! The sushi is fresh and their plates are always beautifully presented.

My boyfriend and I are regulars, and came for our Valentine's meal. I ordered a bottle of Saki which infact came in 3 carafins. ( never saw the bottle) We were unable to finish and one bottle was completely untouched. The food was pretty good, though not the best I've ever had. I really did enjoy the special sushi rolls, though they were pretty pricey. The place looks nice and the service was good. I would say that this restaurant is a modernization of the traditional sushi restaurant (hope that makes sense). I would go back again, if I had a Groupon that is.

Would not return. Extremely slow service, and treats you differently if you have a discount voucher. Avoid unless you are willing to go without a groupon or livingsocial voucher.

Good and pretty quick for lunch

Stopped by with a Groupon $20 for $40 deal for lunch. Server was nice and polite and offered a few good recommendations. Tried the new salmon, shrimp and avocado tartar and it was excellent! Rolls are a reasonable size. For the price its OK, if you can get one of the Groupon deals it’s great.

Great presentation, good quality and taste of food but expensive

Disaster service and normal food

We went there Friday night and it was our first time.
Restaurant was not packed at all but we Waited about 70 min to get served!!!! Manager who was young lady came to us after 50 minutes and apologized but still we waited another 20 minutes while resto was not packed at all and there was not any reason to... plus

2 Times in a week

The good: delicious sushi, great looking dishes, large portions, delicate flavours, try the squid sashimi and dumplings. The plates follow each other at a nice pace very little waiting
The less good ( NOT bad): slightly high prices (offset by quantity), sauces less imaginative

The sushi is way overrated for this price. I do not understand why so many people are crazy about this restaurant.

Firstly, the rice used to roll sushi is terrible (for this price range, the rice is NOT acceptable), imagine a sushi that is a bit chewy.....

I know the place only for lunch. The chef is amazing. The food is fresh, tasty and presented with artistic creativity. The menu has good variety- from packages to single selections, soups, salad, etc. it is pricy compared to other places in the area - a lunch for 2 with tax and tip and without any alcohol can be $70... plus

Once you enter the restaurant, the fragrance of planted flowers breeze across your nose.

Too expensive

Came with the kids, & they were offered drinks as soon as we sat down (actually caught us off guard but I guess that's their tactic...) I was charged $4.50 per drink..and they were very small glasses to boot!
Although I had a living social coupon, I was charged 15% tip on the 'total bill' !!! I think that's not... plus

Awful Reception and Service

They refused to honor my living social voucher because the site was down. Even after i came back the same evening with a printed copy of my voucher they would not reimburse me. Manager said she would and lied. They are very dishonest. Would never recommend a restaurant like this to anyone...thieves!

The food was good; interesting and tasty flavours but the reason I will never be going back is that the services was horrible. I went with 2 other friends and we had a coupon from groupon. I don't know if it was because we had a coupon but the waitress was seriously rude, slow and very condescending. One of the best secrets of the city. Located in ville st Laurent you wouldn't think it's the gem it is. Always fresh. Great selection if you are with a non sushi lover. Service is decent and prices are reasonable!

Amazing tartare

We tried their tuna tartare on Japanese fried mint leaves it was the most amazing tartare we've ever had. Presentation and service was incredible. Original dishes. It stands out from the rest of the Japanese restaurants. Definitely we'll be going back.

Beautiful plates to see and eat

The place is beautiful, the service is very good, the plates delicious. Easy to park (free). Afer knowing this restaurant I discorver that I upgrade my evaluation at japonese food. Recommend.

The sushi was mediocre, borderline not fresh. The maki rolls had some tempura something it it and it was rubbery and tasted the oil. Really? chewy maki rolls? Scary! The special roll came with a special mayo on top, as often the case, but had no flavor. You may think that my taste buds were off somehow, but my wife thought it was just as bad. Can't be a coincidence...

All the time i was at there i only saw the waiteress once when she took our order.

Good Food- Rude Waitresses/Waiter

A bit pricey - good selection

Bought a Living Social coupon as I wanted to take out my husband to dinner for his birthday and he loves sushi. Thankfully, I reserved for an early dinner (5:30 pm) as it seemed to get very busy when we left around 7pm. We also had a great spot by the windows, a little island by ourselves.

Went for supper recently and had ebi tempura and Japanese spring rolls for entrees. Very good. Then unto grilled eel. A bit rubbery. As main courses we chose salmon teriyaki and shrimp teriyaki . A major pass on this sushi

Used a coupon visit to check out Japon Sushi and will not revisit, coupon or otherwise. Very busy on night we went (ladies nite I think,,,) and service was slow if existent at all. Sushi selection was focused on makis and rolls, with very limited sushi and sashimi available. Very noisy, understaffed and very harried wait staff. Not a place... plus

I enjoy the sushi, but not my absolute favorite

I have been here many, many times and I do like their sushi, although it is not my favorite sushi restaurant in Montreal. All I can say is that the food experience is excellent... But part of going out to dine on a Sat night is also enjoying beeing served... None of that here ... At least not on the night of our visit.. only for those who know nothing about sushis

It is ok, nothing really special here. Standard sushis even for a non sushi destination like Montreal. It certainly will impress those who know nothing about sushis. I doubt real sushi connoisseurs would be impressed.

Trying something new

Since this was my first visit we asked our waitress for a recommendation. She pointed us towards the "Deluxe" plater which had an assortment of Sushi and Sashimi. Service was fast and friendly and the presentation of the plater was brilliant. Quite the display and certainly the chef showed off his talents.

We visited Japon Sushi Bar last week and had a great experience.
The sushi & tempura were first class. Presentation was some of the best I have seen.
Try some of the menu entrees, we had 4 of them and they were all hits.
We ended up with an $80 bill for 3 people (no wine).

Try the soft shell crab appetizer because it's amazing. Also, the dumplings (Gyoza) from the appetizer list are amazing as well! The Alex rolls are delicious!

The sushi here is very tasty - the best roll that I've had (and I order it every time I go) is the Alex roll with salmon. Beautiful presentation and reasonably priced - especially with the coupons that keep popping up on Living Social, Groupon, etc

We had a reservation for two at 7:00pm, got to the restaurant and our table was not ready... They told us the people before were still eating!! We finally got our table at 7:15, our waiter came to our table not before 7:45-8:00 to get our order. I ordered a drink and I had to remind her after half an hour about my drink. First Experience better but the food always good

It looks like it must be a nice place for dinner. The decor is quite nice. Went there many times for lunch and it seemed that the service and the atmosphere was better the 1st time a couple years ago. However the food always been good. Their harumaki is very good. Had dinner at Japon with my family on a Friday night in November.

It was quiet for a Friday night. The decor is very nice. The tables are rather small and narrow. Because of their design, when they put 2 tables together is doesn't make for a smooth or large enough surface to put the serving plates on. The cheap wooden chop sticks also clash with the refined decor.
