Went there last weekend for a birthday. We were a party of 12 and well treated. Almost all of us had the paellas which were very good (I had the paella de pescador, all seafood and fish glory), although 1 (8 year old nephew) had a steak that he proclaimed the best steak ever.
Good casual ambiance, attentive and genuine...

Great place to try out! The paellas were amazing. The server made excellent recommendations and treated us like royalty.
This restaurant bills itself as Spanish, but also offers Portuguese and French cuisine on the menu. Paella is the specialty, one whole page of the menu is dedicated to the rice and seafood dish. Various combinations of fish and meat are available, plus a custom version can be made to suit anyone. The paella meals, like the daily specials, come with soup or salad, dessert, and coffee or tea. ... more
This is the place for Paella ! A few words about Paella; This dish is fairly simple to prepare and the results are often mediocre. I look for a subtle safron flavor and lots of fish and meats that are not dried out when served. Most of the time you get a lot of riceand not much else. El Gitano does their paella very well. The seafood paella was generously portioned with lots of clams, mussels,... more
This place was a favourite when I was a student in Montreal 30 odd years ago and its still going strong. The current owner (there have been several over its 50 year existence) maintains a mix of spanish and portugese staples. Paella is a speciality with the mariscos plate (they are all individual paellas) the best bet. Langoustines, gazpacho, escargots,... more
Went here on a whim, and glad we did! They specialize in Paella here and have at least a dozen to choose from, ranging from vegetarian to the most extravagant.Super Bock available by the bottle (always a plus) as well as a pretty solid sangria by the liter.Bread and olives were brought out right after our order and the server was very helpful in deciding/organizing a shared meal for 5 people. ... more
The paella was superb. Each one had a distinct flavor. The service was friendly and helpful. Overall, great meal.
This restaurant has been around for almost 40 years. They used to make the greatest garlic shrimps and Sangria but it seems that memory is better than reality.
I went to eat a paella and enjoyed it all. Service was good. Food amazing A MUST TRY
bad food
bad service
the owner is always drunk
going close soon
Well this was my second time here last night and it was good. Their paella was tasty but something was missing. In other words the first time was much better.
El Gitano is a Spanish restaurant where most Menuism users came for fun with friends and paid between $10 and $25.
