Locals and tourists alike flock to this former waterside container-cum-kitchen for fresh, fast, sustainably harvested seafood delights. Wild Pacific fish and chips, oyster or wild salmon tacos, and fresh fish sandwiches are generally on the menu, as well as fish chowder and an organic vegetarian salad. Every paper plate and container used here is recycled. If the weather's nice, you can sit at... more

Former cargo container redesigned for efficiency (complete with rooftop herb garden) finds new life on a downtown wharf, where owner-chef Kunal Ghose-formerly of Vancouver's Go Fish-and an ace team serve up sustainable seafood paired with locally sourced produce. Fish and chips are perfection, but forgo the deep fryer for the street-wise tacone ($5-$7.50), a grilled tortilla with your choice of... more

Was recommended by a family member to try this. Came all the way from Virginia, USA to try this. And I was not disappointed. It lived up to my expectations. Nothing that I've had so far in the states comes close to this. The fried fish is so fresh and the French fries with a hint of seasoning was bomb!

The cute girl that took my order was very nice and sweet. Since I have a full sleeve usually... more

Red Fish Blue Fish was good, but not the best I've ever had. The halibut was definitely better than the cod. Both were very oily, and I have to wonder if it was because we were at the very end of the day. Skimpy on the tartar, and they charge e$1.00 for an extra little cup. The jerk fish poutine was amazing, however, and a small portion was enough for a whole meal for me.
It takes a very long... more

I was a bit worried this was going to be a tourist trap. I should never doubt Yelp. Fish and chips were so good that we went two afternoons in a row. Lunch lines were about 30 minutes. Completely worth it. I've never had salmon as the fish in fish and chips. I feel it was better than the halibut. But both were so good. I'll be going again in a month when passing through on Alaskan cruise port... more

As for everything we ordered, the chips are salty and delicious. The salsa tastes good and the sauce was my favorite. The cod and oysters taste fresh, but lack some form of seasoning. Their seats by the sea provided us with a great view of the dusk. Definitely a lovely place to enjoy the sunshine and some snacks!

We were in Victoria for 3 days and we ate here EVERY DAY. Truly fabulous fish and chips. Ultra crispy and flavorful batter with perfectly flakey firm white fish inside. Chips were crispy and well seasoned. Coleslaw got better every time we ate it. The line is long but moves quickly with lots of interaction between waiting guests. DON'T miss this spot while in Victoria!

Delicious! The cod in the fish and chips was so lightly crunchy outside and so juicy and chewy inside - a great mouthfeel and nice to have fish with a little texture rather than the typical fish and chips that just melts in your mouth. The tartar sauce was so fantastic! So good that I dipped fries into it rather than ketchup. Unfortunately the fries kinda tasteless and not special.

The halibut was possibly the best thing I have ever tasted. I had very high expectations coming from seattle, and I thought it was just a tiny little shop. I was astonished at how quickly they prepared the meal and how kind the service was. 8/8 would come again, be sure to give a tip because they really do deserve it.

The fried oysters were fresh and some of the best I have ever had. We also had the salmon fish and chips, which was definitely the star of the meal. It wasn't bad but not a standout. Overall, it was a... more

Yes, the food is very good. The seafood was fresh and well prepared. I throughly recommend their riff on poutine. They use a jerk seasoned combination of seafood and gravy instead of the traditional gravy and cheese curds.

Long lines are the norm at Redfish Bluefish, and for good reason!

The chowder is the best I have ever had, hands down, and everyone I have ever turned on to it raves about it! The rich coconut milk base is absolutely loaded with veggies and fish, and the chipotle takes it to the next level.

Waited in line 40 minutes under umbrellas conveniently placed, while outdoors in the hot sun. Then grabbed a spot at a lone picnic table nearby. It was worth it!
Had delicious grilled salmon on salad and grilled oysters on a light slaw-like mix - so GOOD!!!! Two friends with me enjoyed their seafood as well. All cooked just right and... more

Excellent Fish and Chips
July 20, 2014

Long line that goes fast. We had seen this restaurant in an article, voted one of the top 10 restaurants. We walked down to the beach, found it and we were in line for about 15 minutes. Food is excellent. I had the fish and chips, halibut, for $20. It was a little expensive but they are huge portions, with... more

Good Food with a View
July 19, 2014

After reading the reviews this was our first stop after arriving in Victoria and it did not disappoint. The one thing I really appreciated was it was clear that at least half the people waiting in line with us were locals. I had the fish and chips and it was really delicious - not too greasy and seasoned really well.... more

Fish and chips at their very best
July 19, 2014

If you are patient enough to stand in line for 30 minutes or so you will be rewarded with the best fish and chips in British Columbia. We had the lightly battered deep fried halibut accompanied by a generous portion of twice cooked chips. Eating these at an outside table overlooking the picturesque harbour is as good as any fine... more

Looking for lunch on a day in port and we saw a huge line on the pier. Of course, lines are a good thing when it comes to food, so we headed over! Had to wait nearly 30 minutes to reach the front of the line, but boy, am I glad we were patient! We had the best halibut and... more

Tacones were good
July 17, 2014

The line up was long but the max time you will wait will be around 20 mins. I would recommend having the tacones instead of the fish and chips. It's just your typical fish and chips the tacones have more of a different taste. Value of food was good. Try their dipping sauce specially the jerk sauce. The jerk poutine... more

Best Pan Fried Oysters Ever

The seafood chowder is one of the top 2 in my books! Waited about 45 minutes to get food and worth every minute. They kindly provide a row of patio umbrellas to keep people in line shaded and cooler. Heard about it on "You Gotta Eat Here".

Summer Trip 2014

First the dislikes:
Long lineup thanks to the Skaa Festival and the fact the food here is phenomenal. That's it.
Likes: Great staff, fresh fish, perfect chips and I love the mushy edamame, which is a nice change up from mushy peas. Another must stop for lunch while in Victoria!

YUM! Run, don't walk, and get your seafood on
July 14, 2014

WOW - yum. Friendly fast service, a perfect menu, delicious batter-dipped cod, tasty slaw, fries crisp on the outside and molten on the inside. Seriously some of the best fishnchips I've ever had. I also had a grilled Willapa oyster hand roll, which was awesome. Run, don't walk, if you're in the vicinity, and for heaven's sake, get in line.

The freshest of seafood, properly prepared. We split the 2 piece cod fish and chips with coleslaw on 07-08-14. These folks really know what they're doing. Batter was just right, not greasy or soggy. Chips were good, too.

July 13, 2014

It's great location and fish (first quality and 100% sustainable) make it almost a must in Victoria.
If you go for lunch you should consider having an early lunch, as it opens at 11:30 and at that time you avoid the queue.

Try the fish soup
July 11, 2014

I was skeptical that a dockside fish and chips shop with minimum outside seating would be anything special. But you can watch them make the food from the window, it was hot and fresh and the soup was spicy, hot and flavorful, with a hint of coconut. How's that for a walk-up?

Not sure what the fuss is about, it's just fish n chips and expensive at that! Long line-ups in summer but as a local I suspect most are tourists who have heard of it and want to give it a try. Outdoor eating so the decor rating goes to the beautiful Victoria Inner Harbour not the old container this take-out restaurant serves from.

A converted shipping container with grass growing on the top is nothing if not unique. My wife and I both had the hallibut fish and chips. The fish was delicious, tender and crispy-very good, the chips were however greasy and overcooked, we through most of them away.So it was basically 1 piece of very good fish and mediocre cold slaw served outside for $11 each, you decide value.

Had a very pleasant experience that is very much like the other review. We got there before the lunch crowd added to the constant line. These people do know had to cook their cod, halibut, oysters, salmon. and scallop. Prices were a little higher than the ordinary. It was our first stop from the morning Coho ferry. A great way to start our Victoria visit. Very highly recommended, but not fancy.
