We used to be regulars at Ray's Place. And when I say regulars, I do mean regulars. Living just down the street, we went there several evenings a week for a bite to eat or a drink. The wait staff and Ray, the owner, all knew us. Several times we had ordered the wings and they arrived undercooked and had to be sent back. There was more than one time that we felt sick after eating there. Yet, we perservered. The final straw was one night when we went on a night when they had a burger special. I bit into the burger and into something hard. I pulled the burger apart and there was a cooked piece of plastic in the burger. When I complained to the wait staff, the burger was taken away with apologies. Soon after that, Ray came over with a tray of raw burgers to show me that they had a sheet of acetate overtop of each burger for storage in the fridge, and that the cook had neglected to remove it before cooking. Obviously!
What I needed was not a demonstration of the obvious, but a show of good faith to a regular customer and a complimentary meal. But no, we got charged the full $3.50 for the meal. Yes, that's right, he couldn't even swallow a $3.50 charge for a plastic burger. That was our last visit to Ray's.
Everyone was saying we should try Ray's Place and they were right. We went for breakfast and the restaurant is really comfortable. It looks like it is really a sports bar and probably has a good crowd in the afternoons for football etc. Had the 2 eggs, pea meal bacon and the serving size was large and excellent value. The... more
EdgarOrangutan here with one more update on Ray's Place. I was in there on one of their wing nights (80 cents per wing- still a bit pricey for a special) The wings were good, but their sauce is bland. A traditional wing sauce is made with pepper sauce like Durkee's or Frank's, butter, a touch of vinegar etc. Ray's sauce... more
Here is an update of my previous review of Ray's Place, in which I would like to mention some positive developments. Ray has added some large screen TVs so there are several of them throughout the restaurant. This makes Ray's a very good place to watch sports -- Leafs, TiCats etc. Also Ray's now serves Steam Whistle, and they serve... more
Just came from a sorry excuse for a Sunday brunch. There were 9 of us and we arrived at 10:20 AM. Ray's Boathouse accommodates 45 - 50 people and it was full - but only 2 servers....that should have been the key clue. After 15 minutes, no one had taken a coffee order. I got up and asked one of... more
A bustling little restaurant that caters to both the breakfast and late-night crowds. On my most recent visit, I went to Ray's to grab breakfast around 11am. While the food was what you can expect from a breakfast venue, that being pretty much standard......the wait for our food was terribly long!
Hopefully on my next visit to Ray's I'll be able to receive my breakfast in under and hour!
Ray's Place serves pub food and has a limited choice of beer. If you're looking to have something for dinner other than wings, pizza, fish and chips, sandwiches, burgers etc, than you should go somewhere else. Also, I find Ray's to be a bit pricey for what you get. So if you're looking for pub food and ordinary beer, (i.e.... more
My brother was turning 25 and he specifically requested Rays since we have been going there since we were kids and my father has been a regular after volleyball for 20 plus years. Rays seemed like the perfect choice- we have celebrated many milestones with great dinners and were expecting to have a great time.
I called two weeks in...

The food here varied from visit to visit. Cooks and waitstaff come and go so both food and service are inconsistent. The food served is bar grub and not very good bar grub. Never seem to get orders straight. I once ordered an individual pizza and was served a large pizza. There’s a BIG difference. Stopped going here. I usually went for breakfast on the weekends but never again.
Overly fatty...

I agree. It is what it is. It's not an overpriced trendy little bistro. They have a great breakfast and the staff is really friendly.
Ray's Place the Boathouse is a restaurant where most Menuism users paid less than $10 and tipped less than 15%.
