I was looking for a new restaurant to try for lunch within a few minutes' drive from my office, so I came to Weblocal and punched in my postal code. Pilo's popped up and I noticed it because I like Greek food. I'd never been there, but figured it couldn't hurt to try.
The place was still quite busy at 1:15 on a Thursday afternoon, but they gave me a nice table next to the window and left me with the menu for just the right amount of time. I ordered the mousaka lunch special and didn't have to wait for it for very long.
I got two nicely toasted, thick slices of garlic bread while I waited for my meal and when the plate came, it was heaped with salad, rice and nicely roasted potatoes, not to mention a perfectly sized slice of mousaka. The rice was somewhat bland and just the slightest bit too dry, but everything else was perfect, including the mousaka which was rich and moist and really yummy. The salad was perfect too... not too cold (I hate a really cold salad when I'm eating hot food.)
Pilo's also has a comfortable atmosphere for people like me who like to dine alone and read a book while eating. The service was quick, courteous and non-intrusive. There's plenty of parking right outside the door.
My bill for the mousaka, soft drink, taxes and tip came to slightly over $15 ($9.95 of that was the entree). Certainly affordable now and then for someone who eats out for lunch every day.
Disgusting.....Since the owner gave the restaurant to his son, the quality has gradually gotten worse. Today's experience was surreal. The owner on his return to the restaurant exposed at least 3/4 of his butt crack to us while he was pushing in chairs and we were dining. Strange man. We had to tell him to pull up his pants which offend him. Last visit there. Btw, is that sanitary?
I'll keep this brief...
The beef gyros was not the juicy, curly, carved-off-a-spit shavings that I'm used to, but rather it was a stack of 8 or 9 pre-made slices, likely from frozen. If you've ever bought a cheap $4 box of frozen, pre-formed strips from a grocery store, that's what it was. But this dinner was $15. Even with rice, potatoes (overcooked) and a Greek salad, it was totally not...

We had not been to Pilos for years, but went back this past Sunday and had a delightful meal. The pork souvlaki was tasty and plentiful. The vegetarian moussaka was quite good, too. Friendly and prompt service added to the wonderful experience. All in all, a first rate meal.
Ate at Pilos today for lunch. Pikilia had one really delicious item on it - the Tzatziki was really good. The rest was mediocre and the Spanikopita was not just soggy, it was wet. No crunch to it at all and no one at the table would eat it. A waste of $17. Bread basket was good and fresh. Lunch... more
This is my favorite Greek restaurant. I first ate here in the late eighties and as far as the food is concern, tasted as good as ever. I had tried most of the main dishes and I like the pork souvlaki the most. The only thing that changed over the years is the garlic breads that come with the meal. They came in half-slide portions now, thinner and seemed to me not as delicious as years back.... more
Pilos Greek Restaurant has been around for lots of years and we return a few times yearly for the great food, great menu, great service and reasonable price.
My parents live in the neighbourhood, and growing up Pilos was our number one 'treat meal' restaurant.
The food is really good, and very reasonably priced. For a bit over $20 you can get a delicious rib steak, greek salad, potatoes, rice, and free bread --garlic bread and/or pita--. So much food and it's all so good. At a high end steak house the same type meal (probably not as delicious...

Three of us went to Pilos for business lunch last week because it is near out office. My colleagues ordered their lunch specials, they were good for the value-lots of potatoes and rice, and salad. I ordered Octopus for an appetizer, it was a plate with may be two oz of cut up meat that did not resemble/taste octopus at... more
We have been going to Pilos for years. Living in Manor Park, it's the closest Greek place around. Sadly, I think because it has such a following (due to lack of competition) in the neighbourhood it has gotten lazy about food. Portions are huge. Quality is middling. Too much deep frying going on. Why don't owners try sautéing or grilling... more
We joined friends who are regulars and swear by it. Service was prompt, but very impersonal. The food was quite good, our group was pleased with the vegetarian moussaka, chicken and pork souvlakis; prices were reasonable. The atmosphere was calm and very conducive to conversation, I would recommend it for a nice relaxed meal with friends. Once I got passed... more
I’ve been eating at Pilos for about 10 years. The food is always strong and authentic to the taste. I am of Greek decent and I take bad or unauthentic Greek food (see Greek on Wheels) very seriously!
Once we arrived at the restaurant on a Thursday evening, my partner and I were quickly seated to a table by the...

It has been a favorite for years when visiting Ottawa. The food has always been very consistent but it seems the owners may be getting tired. The Souvlaki is wonderful and the Calamari good. The salads and Fish are good as well. We had a birthday celebration and it was really not a good experience especially when they wanted to... more
Very attentive service we had time for a cocktail and they served the wine as well before dinner. We had a great time it was just after christmas and we expect the staff to be tired a bit but no everything was perfect. The chicken souvlaki brochette was very tender and tasty. The price is more than respectable. Great place for... more
We had lunch with a friend. We had the moussaka dish.
the plate was full of rice , potatoes and lettuce.
The moussaka portion was about 2 square centimeters. ( about 3 bites).
The place looks dated.
11.95 for basically rice and potatoes is a bit too much!
I was invited here for dinner. The mains are typical greek food platters: rice, potato, small salad and chicken/beef/lamb brochettes. One item that stood out above the rest was the squid appetizer: very tender and flavorful. My greek sausage was also very tasty, however there was no salad, garnish of trimmings of any sort. One small sausage sitting in the... more
This is a great restaurant for Greek. Very good size portions. The food and atmospher made you feel comfortable. Everything I've tried has been great. I have never been disappointed here.
I went with my husband this weekend, Friday night, but had forgotten to make a reservation. The place was packed so I strongly recommend making reservations on the weekends! The hostess politely informed us she'd get us a table in 5-10 minutes, and after a few minutes we were seated. There were several large groups but our food still arrived... more
I had a craving for Greek food so we decided to go to Pilos. I had not been to Pilos in about two years so I was looking forward to going back. We ended up going to Pilos twice in the last two weeks. The first time was for dinner on a Saturday and the second was for lunch on... more
We went back to Pilos having gone years before. I remembered it as casual dining, cheap place to eat; it's not cheap any more.
The food at Pilos is average. I would like to be able to say that it was delicious but it is not. The service and food is nondescript. The decor is downmarket like a chain restaurant...

Went here several times over the years and was impressed. However, last visit was terrible. Service was poor - very slow and rude. Bread was burnt, trout was dry and we waited forever for our meals! Perhaps it was just a bad day - hope so.
I love this restaurant! The authentic Greek dishes and wines are so yummy - reminds me of my trips to Greece. Prices are very reasonable. Very enjoyable atmosphere and professional service every time I go there. Great place for family or business sit down meal. Wide assortment of appetizers, entrées and deserts. Would recommend to all who love Greek food... more
My favourite Greek restaurant in Ottawa. The Beef Gyro plate is my favourite main, the meat is thinly sliced and very flavourful. It comes with a large amount of rice, greek salad, and potatoes, definitely large portions. For appetizers we often get Greek sausages as well as the Pikilia appetizer platter. I haven't found a greek place that compares.
I've been going to this restaurant for over 15 years now and saw a difference when the son of the owner took over. He definitely has no people skills!! Been there with friends when the fan in the kitchen broke down and smoke was filling up the dining room, did the son do anything to apologize for this, NO!! I... more
We drove across town to meet family for an Easter gathering. We have been there a few times before and knew what we were getting as we have never had a bad meal at Pilos. The restaurant was busy and was well staffed. The owner was at the door and friendly in seating us. We started with tzatziki and greek... more
This restaurant which ahs been around for a very long time serves wonderful food. My advice is to book in advance as their regular customers keep the restaurant quite full most evenings.
I often select this restaurant to share a good time with my close friends. The ambiance is simple and warm and the style takes you to Greece. What makes this restaurant special is how well they greet you and how they prepare the food. Authentic Greek food and wine with generous servings. You may want to take some home for... more
The food was okay but not exceptional. We had the same server as the last time we were there. He was condescending for lack of a better word. We felt that he was just trying to get us to eat and get out. He was at the table so often that it was annoying. We did not stay very long... more

The decor is outdated, but the food is actually really good.
Went to dinner with a friend on December 22. The menu is standard "canadianized" greek, much like the former Greek Souvlaki House on Baseline Road. Took forever to get our drinks, but the food came rather quicky. The chicken souvlaki was good, the potatoes even better. But the rice was cold and bland, and the "greek" salad, wasn't. Yes it... more
Pilos is a good place for Greek food. Not outstanding, but we've always liked what we ordered. Good selection and service is fine.
Pilos is a very popular ottawa restaurant. Excellent food, service, and prices. Can't go wrong. Huge portions make good value.
We have been frequenting this Greek restaurant in East Ottawa for 3 years and it is consistently good, warm, friendly and gives excellent value always.
We have been customers of Pilo's for many years - both dining in and take out. However, the last two experiences with Pilo's restaurant have been quite disappointing. A month ago we tried to make a reservation for dinner, requesting a window table and were told by the day time manager, that a window table could not be guaranteed. What... more
This restaurant has good Greek food, but the overall service is just a little bit lacking. Its always busy and good prices.
First of all let me say that we tried to do our homework on this restaurant. We carefully read the available reviews and were confident upon arriving for dinner at Pilos. I should mention that I have had the privilege of visiting top notch Greek restaurants in the Pape/Danforth area of Toronto.
So here it goes:
We were greeted in...

We have visited Pilos for years and we continue to enjoy the food, service, and atmosphere. The food is not gourmet in quality but the souvlaki, calamari, potatoes, Greek salad, and rice are as tasty as any Greek restaurant. The prices are modest - a couple can have a meal with wine for under $80 - so it's quite reasonable.... more
Having reasonably friendly waiting staff can NOT make up for unbelievably long waits after you've ordered. If the food was great, I might forgive: it is mediocre. The prices are inflated. Ottawa now has alternatives. Mystiko (comparable or slightly higher prices to Pilos, but truly worth it), Greek Souvlaki Shack (despite the name, a charming and small restaurant downtown--medium prices),... more
I took my Fiancé to this restaurant to celebrate our recent engagement, this restaurant show off the consumer choice awards in many places which heightened our anticipation of a great food experience. I ordered the Pork Souvlaki plate. When I received my plate, I noticed that the pork was really greasy. It was chewy and didn't taste fresh. A friend and I had supper at Pilos tonight. It was my first time at the restaurant but it will certainly not be my last. I was delighted with my choices. Pilos has been in the neighbourhood for many years, and continues to be an excellent restaurant in the east end of Ottawa. Pilos is an excellent Greek restaurant to eat at. The portions are not too large and there are many things to chose from. The parking isn't so great though- if the lot is full, park on the street behind the corner store.
Good greek food and great price - I go there for lunch! it's next to my workplace
Forget greek on wheels. Pilos is a prime place for authentic greek food.
Real greek salad which contains fresh and juicy tomatoes, tasty onions,
the best feta cheese ever, a few black olives and awesome dressing.
That's right, no greens! They do have some green salads too though.
The food is always fresh and super tasty. They can get very busy so I suggest
