One of the oldest dance halls in Toronto, the Phoenix attracts an all-ages, all-races crowd that includes straights and gays. As a rock venue, it showcases such artists as Screaming Headless Torsos and Patti Smith. On the weekends, it gets the crowds dancing with a mixture of retro, Latin, alternative, and funk.

Great concerts, cool venue

The Phoenix is a really awesome place to catch a concert, or just to have a few drinks on the weekend. I really love the look and feel of this place: it is very dark but they have some cool artwork on the walls, great lighting, and some vibrantly-coloured highlights throughout. The place actually consists of two separate rooms, one of which is more of a lounge with pool tables, and the other is more of a club area that has a dance floor, and a large balcony up top that’s equipped with its own bar, couches, and chairs. The bartenders were mostly nice (there are several bars throughout the club) but sometimes you had to wait a while for a drink because the bartender didn’t pay attention to who was there first. Also, the people working security were not very nice at all, and were actually kind of rude. But aside from the bouncers being mean, overall the Phoenix is a fantastic place to spend a night out.

Sketch Area, Good Concert Venue

This place is pretty decent for concerts. They have good bands play and it is always a great time. I just hate the area it is in....it's a little sketchy so be careful when you are walking home afterwards!

Good Music

I've been going to the Phoenix for years, Great time on Halloween they throw an amazing party I think that's what got me hooked plus it was a rock club which is rare in the city now a days.

The place itself is massive with a Giant massive main room (where sometimes lots of famous bands will play) They also have a smaller lounge type room with pool tables and they have another lounge type room upstairs over the main room which big cozy couches.

The place is fun never the less. as I said before lots of good bands have played there over the years.

The Phoenix is an old-school rock venue -- shows are standing-room-only -- and it has a loyal local following. It has showcased such legends as the New York Dolls, Patti Smith, and Gang of Four, while newer stars such as Neko Case and the Raveonettes have also gigged here. On the weekends, it gets the crowds dancing with a mix of retro, Latin, alternative, and funk.

The Phoenix Concert Theatre is like a big warehouse with good sight-lines to watch live music, including a second floor mezzanine in the back.

Experienced this club at the awesome Village People Concert
July 21, 2014

This concert was SO awesome! It was well set up and organized with constant entertainment while waiting for the main act! It was hosted by Proud 103.9 (who I won tickets from) and they made it even better with lots of give-aways as well as taking pictures of everyone and posting on their twitter account. The only issue I had... more

Great little concert venue
April 07, 2014

Recently caught Boy & Bear here on their North American Tour. It was great seeing them play live in an intimate setting (compared to what I'd previously seen them play in Australia) and it was an excellent show overall. The venue had great acoustics and it was easy to get a great view of everything. Security were fine and getting... more

Decent, intimate concert venue
June 15, 2013

Came to Toronto to see Darren Criss at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. Its a smallish place, a dance hall from what I read. One stands for concerts here. There is a balcony area that has some table seating. There is a public parking lot across the street. The cost is reasonable. There is a "machine" one pays and gets a... more

The best little concert venue in Toronto
May 11, 2013

This place is located at 410 Sherbourne St. a short distance by subway & streetcar to Toronto Downtown. It is an awsome venue for rock concerts. We went to see Melanie Fiona on May 3, 2013. It was a great concert and we love the place!

Nice bar staff, good for shows, but

Security have a severe chip on their shoulders. Rude doesn't describe it. Kind of took the win right out of my sails for the show. Overall, a good place to catch a nice intimate concert.

Great old school live music venue with easy access to multiple bars on two levels. Good sound and light show. Seems to be an easy walk back to Yonge for something from the Big Slice.

Great venue to catch a show
August 04, 2012

The Phoenix did not disappoint with great sound and easy beer access. The facilities were limited with but a few dozen chairs (all in the balcony area) and the place is a bit slow to get in and out of due to being a bit of a labyrinth. Not pretty, not comfortable, but atmospheric and exactly what it should be... more

Poor facilities
June 21, 2012

Insufficient restrooms, the women's restroom was overflowing and filthy. There were no chairs for the older concert goers. There were zero chairs anywhere on the first floor and the employees wouldn't let me take a chair and sit down even at the back. It is a run down place.

The Phoenix is always a top notch venue to catch a show. I hadn't been in probably 10 years prior to seeing The Walkmen perform this weekend. The show was incredible, but the venue always fits the bill. Very cool atmosphere and reasonable ways to get drinks without waiting in line forever.

Great venue, it wasn't hot inside, lots of other areas of the bar to go if you didn't want to be directly down in front of the stage. Well organized event.

3 great bands, one awesome location! I was pleasantly surprised at the set-up - we were front and centre in balcony chairs to enjoy the show from the 19+ area. As our backs aren't what they once were, this was a fantastic way to hit the club. AND, it's just around the block from our favorite place to stay in... more

Unqualified and abusive door security
October 19, 2011

I had purchased two tickets to see a show taking place at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. After waiting with my girlfriend in a very long ticket check line up I had a very insulting, bossy and out of context comment made to me by the man checking my ID and tickets. I was a few feet ahead, being a gentleman and no threat to security at all waiting for my girlfriend to get through id check. The... more

Unique Concert Venue
March 20, 2011

Love the balance between most popular/mainstream concerts and audiences to that of the local scene. Had lots of the fun at the Good Charlotte concert!! I do usually prefer the mainstream stuff but the atmosphere was very (positively) different than what i'm used to which was great!

Whether you like the local scene or the bands you hear on the radio 100000 times everyday, Phoenix lets you pick and choose and in my opinion, their wide variety has something for everyone! Great stage setup and sound too.

Other rooms are designed to create a variety of atmospheres, from the loft, a martini-lounge sofa room, to the main Room, a venue for concerts that has hosted the likes of Sarah Maclachlan and the Smashing Pumpkins. At the Phoenix, the acts are always exciting and concert nights feel like extra-special events. Besides the concerts, weekends at the Phoenix include dancing with live-to-air DJs. The surroundings are impressive, the bar is long and there is plenty of space to sit and watch the goings-on.
