Great little "greasy spoon" breakfast joint. If that's what you're looking for, this is the place!
Sometimes nothing but an inexpensive motor inn or motel will do, and that's where Paul's comes in. It's been around for ages, it's very well maintained, and it's within a 15-minute walking distance to downtown. The rooms are pleasant for what they are and much nicer than those in many motel chains. The staff here is friendly and helpful, and there's an above-average restaurant. Clean and... more
We needed a reasonable place to sleep close to the inner harbor -
It was clean ,reasonable priced ,easy to book .
Unfortually the Air Condition was out of service and we had a very hot night .
The couryard outside gave the hotel a nice character .
Not only did the room have an overall feel of dirtiness, but we also had no hot water for showers! Dust was thick everywhere, the coffee/tea basket had not been replenished (there was used sugar packets in the basket still!), the pillows were flat and small and a large spider occupied the room with us. We did get a small... more
Temperatures were at 30C (90F) and assumed A/C was in the room but no it wasn't and almost checked out due to extreme heat in room. Sink and bathtub both were clogged. Get what you pay for. Restaurant was very good and average priced. Walk to downtown/Chinatown and inner harbour.
Paul's Motor Inn was OK. It was clean. The people at the desk were pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately, it has no air conditioning and that was difficult as the days were very hot. One night of our 3 night stay, when we arrived back at the motel the beds were not made and towels which I put in the tub were not taken. But when I called the desk they brought the towels right up. We all make... more
Convenient location. Easy parking facilities. Would go back.
Stayed for 1 night, hotel was in a handy location. Offered good value compared to other hotels. The room was tidy and clean although older style. If you are on a budget and want a simple place for the night it will do the job fine
We travel to Victoria periodically and want a very convenient "bed and bath" to stay. Paul's is an old, clean and reliable motel but no frills or luxury. It is extremely convenient to everything, concerts at the Safeway centre, China town, shopping and, being a motel there is easy access to your room and free parking. The area is very... more
We stopped and had lunch at Paul's and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch - nothing fancy, just really good. The restaurant has been recently renovated so, along with the homemade goodness of the food, the atmosphere was bright and cheerful. We will definitely visit again when we're in the Victoria area.
After driving twelve hours to get here our bathroom was dirty, the tub still had water and hair all over it. We told the front desk and they weren't concerned, also we were away from the group we booked with (again nothing could be done). It took two weeks and several phone calls to get an answer which wasn't satisfactory... more

Stayed over for one night. Location is perfect everything its very close. Room was clean but old. Perfect for one night.
On Monday night, June 2, we stayed at PAUL'S MOTOR INN. It was recommended to us so we thought we would check it out. It was walking distance to downtown and close to shops and restaurants. The price was $69.00 plus tax($80.73).
I was looking for a place that would be close to everything (central) and at a price I could afford, since most accommodations in Victoria, although top-notch, can be rather expensive...unless you own an oil company! This place "fit the bill" nicely in that regard.
The main complaint I have for this place is that there are NO elevators...which can be difficult if you have luggage to haul up to...

this was my second time at paul's, the first was four years ago. my boyfriend and i love paul's! it's affordable, retro (literally), and close to downtown (10-15 minute walk to centre) without being amidst all the tourist trash. we like it as it has some character without being pretentious and snooty like so many hotels in vic. we also... more
Get a good, clean room in a very good location at a very good price. Lots of parking, a good WiFi system and very nice helpful staff makes this a best buy.
Paul's Motor Inn was fantastic and I will definitely be coming back. The wooden walls and benches inside the room made for excellent photo ops and the you really can't do any better for location or cleanliness. You will not be disappointed.
We decided to stay at Paul's Motor Inn because we were traveling with our (55 pound) dog. A surprise was that this is quite a nice place!
No, nothing fancy about the rooms but they were clean, had all the standard features (in-room safe, wide screen TV, coffee maker), the beds were comfortable, and the inn us within walking distance...

The location and price are good.It is very convenient to walk around the downtown. Peoples there are very kind and enthusiasm.
I travel to Victoria often and this is the first time that all the places I like were sold out. Trip was last minute so I just decided to stay at this motel. It was okay? Bed was not comfortable, AC didn't work well and the curtains didn't block the light out from outside entry lights. This is a very... more
I booked here based on the TripAdvisor ratings. I wanted a place that was inexpensive, but decent, for a two-night break in a long road trip. I was not disappointed. My room was large, quiet, clean, and comfortable, with easy parking next to my door--motel style. It was convenient to downtown, but just outside the traffic congestion of downtown.
Great motel style hotel with plenty of carparking. Good sized clean room. Restaurant is apparently open only at the weekends and they do not serve breakfast. There are a couple of reasonably priced restaurants just across the street. Located an easy 10 - 15 minute walk from the tourist area of the waterfront.
nothing fancy, a quirky/cute 70s vibe going on here. clean & comfortable and near to town. feels safe. tall people prepare for the crouch shower. just to warn everybody the whole place is a SMOKE FREE ZONE except for one tiny picnic table, though it was surrounded by trees and pretty private, i was a little bummed out i couldnt... more
If you want a place that feels clean, great location for touristy stuff and restaurants (ask staff for suggestions), clean towels and sheets, mattresses fine, descent restaurant attached, safe feeling, free parking outside your room, friendly knowledgeable staff, great price, then here ya go. We only stayed one night but I would have stayed more.
I had emailed Paul's motor inn before coming to ask if they would hold our bags as our flight got in early. Manager was more than eager to.... But when I got there at 11am, the counter lady told me there was no room for our 2 bags and that the manager should stop telling people they will do that.... more
We went to Victoria for one night (sightseeing and party) and the Pauls Motor Inn was the perfect match. Large and clean room for little money.
Could not provide us with handicap or lower floor room :o( Little late cleaning rooms but staff very nice and friendly.Don't expect luxury but it is clean and is a great location on the edge of China Town. 15 minute walk to Harbour along Government Street and lots to see on the wayGood value for money
Fast, simple, very good! The "short stack" is what we both had (a side of bacon to share) and the 'cakes were light, fresh and delicious...so was the bacon. What more could one want for breakfast?
Well, "unique" can be good new OR bad, especially in the case of hotels. Paul's is, mostly, "good" unique.
We had two, different, rooms (more later) and they were somewhat different. Both on the second floor (desirable) and on the "away from the street" end (VERY desirable). Our first room, and, apparently, most of the others, had a long, wooden,...

I booked Paul's through one of Expedia's top secret deals (you don't know which hotel you've booked until after it's been prepaid - usually excellent deals). Booked Paul's on short notice, we were pleasantly surprised by the great location, ease of access to downtown. The place is dated but clean, if your expectations are for 5 star then you need to look for that kind of place. Paul's is priced right and gives the basics of comfort, cleanliness and convenience. The ladies at reception were polite... more
Older, but comfortable. If you can, get a room in the inner court yard. We got room B87. The rooms in the inner courtyard are quieter than the ones on the outside facing the street. No air condition or microwave. Has a fan and fridge. TV is CRT style.
I want to say a big thank you to Paul's Motor Inn for the service they gave to a couple who had just been turned away from the motel across the street because they did not have photo ID. I paid for their stay at that motel by credit card. The couple were refused accommodation there. I told them to... more
We had a confirmed reservation for 2 nights. When we arrived, we were told we could not stay there as they do not accept cash. REALLY???? I wonder if the place is under new management since some of the really negative comments were written. We stayed at Paul's for two reasons: it was dog friendly and dirt cheap. It definitely feels like a motor inn. Wood paneling, basic bedding, and a very worn out... more
It's great if you want a cheap and convenient location. I've gone here every year for years.Always cracking jokes on it and not wanting to answer when store staff ask you where your staying. This place sucks. Dirty smelly rooms, Rude staff. I didn't expect much from a $80 a night motel but a little courtesy would be nice. If our looking for a place to stay in Victoria there are much better options for the money. Don't waste your money or vacation time on this dump.
Not a lot of extras here, it's an older motel that they have worked nicely to update. We had 2 rooms and they were both clean and comfortable. The motel is right on the main highway going from downtown out to the Butchart gardens; they have free parking and are close to downtown.
Exellent value for money the only thing missing was air con although it did have a ceiling & stand alone fan. Restaurant/diner food was very good. Service was exellent with the houskeeping and front of house staff being very helpful. We were put on to this hotel byour relatives & it provided all we needed. Thanks to you all.
Lovely place rooms were very clean, beds were comfortable, the staff was very nice and helpfull . Stayed here for two days, and had two rooms,my parents had a newly refurbished room which was absoultely beautiful, think our room was on the list to refurbish, but it was still very nice. X
You want to stay here if you need to be close to downtown. Reasonable pirce. Retro for sure showing its age. The room was fairly clean but room for improvment. Bed was comfortable and we had a quite sleep. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again,
Very comfortable room - very clean. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Very reasonably priced. Parking was free which was a bonus. Centrally located for exploring Victoria. Diner attached with breakfast very reasonably priced.
I spent 4 days here and it was perfect for exploring Victoria from and parking was free. Older motor lodge with a diner attached. I spent a little more and stayed in a Courtyard room. What fun to relive our dating days by going to Paul's (weekend-only) drive-in. The carhop was great, we felt welcome, the burgers were just right and the price very good. We'll do it again for sure!
If you like real cedar wood feature walls (no panelling here); a long cedar bench for luggage or friends; basic TV; clean rooms; a drive-in restaruant (just like A&W used to be); and a walk-in restaurant for breakfast (with legendary pies I'm told for lunch), then come to Paul's Mortor Inn in Victoria, BC! The bathroom and bathtub were clean; therefore, bathing was most enjoyable. We missed real Canadian news on Shaw Cable's Sun News Network TV station though.
old school place with the feel of the 60s.
good value, decent food nothing fancy.
Handy location on Douglas Street, but very noisy. We encountered a small motorcycle group here - kept us awake until midnight. Otherwise, good value.
This is an old fashioned motel located right downtown in Victoria and it's clean and cheap (for Canada). That made it perfect for us. The atmosphere is simple but cool. Food was very good, fast and friendly service. Our waitress Diana was fabulous.
Paul's is very handy to downtown/China Town and to all the out of town places we wanted to go to (Cathederal Grove, French Beach) - right on the TransCanada Hwy.
The restaurant downstairs was fantastic and opened earlier so we ate there almost every day.
Not fancy but clean and comfortable and everything we needed!!
They have an awesome menu, are open early and everything tasted great.
My husband says the best coffee he's had in a long time!
This is my second time staying at Paul's - the rooms are clean, the value is good and the location was convenient for me. Needed dusting especially the fan. (No A/C) Convenent location - close to bus stop, China Town.
Returning to our hotel room after 7 in the evening we found that the room wasn't cleaned. At the front desk we learned that the entire 3rd floor didn't get cleaned that day as the crew didn't have time to do it. This was told to us in a matter of fact tone with not apology or even the offer of clean towels.
very good for the money you paid. in fact, we spend most time outside instead of in the room. So this place is very good to match what we need: clean and confortable! Stuffs were also very nice.
A typical motel, no A/C, walls are thin, lady at the front desk needs more training. I would not recommend this to a friend. I'd say pay a little more for a better hotel.
On our 14 day trip from Denver to Torino, BC and back, this was one of the better Places we stayed. The room was very clean and in good order. The beds were comfortable, much better then other places in the same price range. The Hotel staff was very friendly. Good food at the restaurant, but our waitress was terrible. Can't beat it for the price
[...]. They gave us a courtyard room that was very nice. It was quite, clean, and perfect. The hotel was close to downtown. We would use this hotel again.
the location was good but the service was not so good
Paddled in the Victoria dragon boat races, walking tours, shopping. fun.
Having the restuarant so close made it easy. The rooms were nice and the staff very pleasant. Internet is lacking but can be overlooked.
“ Our room was clean but there were holes in the sheets. And the ceiling in our bathroom dripped water through a large crack in it when the people above us showered.
”
This was a good hotel with plenty of space, comfortable beds, good shower. We came during a hot spell and were surprised that there was no air conditioning. There was an overhead fan and a table fan, however.
We were very pleased with our stay. The room had a faint smoky odor, and that is my only complaint. Otherwise, the staff members were extraordinarily helpful and the room was very clean. The hotel was a reasonable walking distance from all of the Victoria sights we wanted to visit. Thanks for a great visit!
“Restaurant on site, decent food, a little pricey room does not deserve a one star rating. Carpets very dirty, bathroom not cleaned, no air conditioning and I had to climb on top of a table to get the ceiling fan on, the safe was broken but, the staff were very friendly and helpful.”
I'd recommend Paul's. The location was convenient, parking was easy, the front desk was very helpful, the room was comfortable and clean and the beds were good. “We stayed in the courtyard room, which I highly recommend above a standard room. The walls are wood paneled and reminded me of being in a lodge in the woods. “We were rather skeptical of this hotel because it was only a 1-star rating; however, it's a great value for the price. “This hotel was very clean. The sheets were very old and thin, and wouldn't stay tucked in. Compared to the US hotels I have stayed in, it was not very nice.”
“A dozen newer rooms appended to an old hotel, but rooms lack air conditioning and have only one window for ventilation and no fan, and it is right on the walkway.
