Tried eating here twice before but was unable due to timing as we arrived at closing time. Spoke with two ladies who had just finished lunch and they said that they were from Kingston and always ate at the Painted Peppercorn when visiting Picton. Finally made it in time and it is a great little place with home made food.... more
This was our second visit to The Painted Peppercorn. We were seated on a pleasant outdoor patio and the service was attentive and welcoming. The menu is somewhat limited (I think there were 3-4 choices of entrees) but the kitchen appears small and I applaud the owners/chefs for sticking to what they know best and can deliver on; the promise... more
We dropped in on an evening when we were looking for something simple and summery. The owner was working outside getting things set up so we asked her about the restaurant. She very graciously described their philosophy of cooking (no deep fryer, all fresh ingredients, local whenever possible, etc!)
We ate on a small patio out back to enjoy the...

Friendly restaurant with home-cooking -- the patio was worth it. Only problem, the entrance to restaurant could be better marked
We'd been here before for lunch, but this time we tried dinner. Lovely fresh food, welcoming service, and an attractive patio. (I particularly liked the bird-house decor.) Good value!
Had an excellent lunch on the patio. Must try!!! Food is flavourful and original. The kids also loved it. Waiter was extremely friendly. Keep room for the home-made desserts. Local wine and produce used.
We were looking for an after dinner drink on a patio, and this place is only one of two patios in town. We enjoyed our time outside but for the location it could use some sprucing up. Trimming a few tree branches, sweeping dead leaves, and tidying the potted flowers in the ground would bring this patio to life, and... more
loved the freshness and taste of my choice (roast chicken wrap) as did my guest (pork meatpie) I chose the salad and the other choice was the soup, both were excellent....Great Value, less than $30 and more than generous servings.....so yummy that we ate every bite!
One of the nice things about Picton is that it lacks the mid-range chain restaurants that dominate so many cities. It forces people to check out some different places. The Painted Peppercorn is one of those small gems in this small town. It is located off Main Street in the heart of the City around the corner from The Bean... more
Special healthy lunches. Special care in their food preparations. I like the food and the people there.
Situated behind the BeanCounter restaurant, Old wood motif.
Service was quick and courteous. I had a glass of local apple cider that was very refreshing followed by a turkey tortierre which was ok but the crust was not as crisp as i would have liked but good none the less,i got the idea it was heated in a microwave rather...

We enjoyed a late, fall lunch here this afternoon and really enjoyed it. I had the tomato soup of the day with the pork tourtière and my wife had fresh salad and the chicken curry. We both thought the dishes were really tasty. I particularly enjoyed the seasonings in both the soup and the tourtière. Also finished with a nice... more
We stumbled upon The Painted Peppercorn by accident - we were hungry, looking for a lunch spot, and it was the closest one.
We ordered the pork tourtiere and cauliflower soup. I had expected a salty creamy mess, but instead I got a delicious, wholesome soup full of flavour. My wife ordered the pork tourtiere, which had a rich medley...

One thing I love to find when I am away from home is a place that makes meals like I would be making. The food was outstanding. Three of us were there for lunch one day, none of us ordered the same meal and all of us were very, very pleased. We'll be back!
Had the amazing chicken dinner with salad and a brew. The service was great, and the atmosphere calm and harmonious after a long trip.
The look of that place is not so neat, but we have read the reviews and decided to give it a try. We had a lunch at that place and the food was awful. I had hairs in my meal. For some strange reason they put fruit in you main dish. I am not comming back again.
Although we arrived here just an hour or so before closing we were seated on the patio immediately and our order taken promptly. Our dinner arrived promptly and was just what we'd ordered. Everything was delicious and the bill was very budget friendly.
Not the best choice for those looking for variety on the menu. We had the meatloaf which was good, not great. It would have been nice to have a few more choices on the menu. Waitress had the entire patio to serve so service was a bit slow. Kid friendly
I went to this restaurant with high expectations after viewing their website and the reviews on this website, but it was a nasty experience from the start. For starters, the sample menu on the website was nothing like the "Summer Menu," which meant that the bison burger--which we'd heard many good things to order--was not available to order. I ended... more
We had a great meal here one evening. The food is quite healthy and was a nice break from the heavy food we had been eating at many of the other restaurants on our trip. We both had a beatiful salad and a curry dish. There were also quite a few vegetarian options.
Not for late night diners, the kitchen closes at 8 PM. We tried to eat there on our first night but arrived too late. We did go early enough for dinner on our last night. The menu and food were uninspiring, very average. There is a nice out door dining area.
We were on our way home from Kingston and stopped in Picton for lunch. We were lucky enough to stumble upon the Painted Peppercorn.
Two soups were available. Gazpacho and pear and cucumber soup. Both are cold soups and perfect because it was such a hot day. We tried both and both were very good. I had their bison burger...

More than anywhere, Renata strives to use wholesome, locally grown ingredients without preservatives in all of her delicious creations.
Great little restaurant located just off Main street where you can enjoy dinner on a partly shaded patio. The cold cucumber/mango soup was refreshing and light. We each tried one of the two vegetarian options available for the evening: a Quinoa Salad (included tomatoes, black olives, feta cheese) and the Chickpea Curry (came with rice and bread). Both entrees were fresh... more
Came recommended by our daughter - Great find off the beaten path - food was very good and service was exceptional
We have enjoyed lunch at the Painted Peppercorn many times since it first opened several years ago and have always enjoyed the ambience, friendly service and the simple but wholesome food.
Have eaten here on almost every visit to the county - their soups in the fall are amazing! Everything so full of flavour and fresh. Staff has always been friendly. Loads of character. Worth the effort to find - just off the main road. Park at the end of the street in the municipal parking.
One of our ways to spend the weekend is to rent a car and travel to a far out county and eat at a local restaurant. We had picked Picton, the other weekend and I checked up the Painted Peppercorn.
A little difficult to locate while you are driving around, I had to get down, park the car and locate...

This is an excellent restaurant for a good lunch. The meals are well prepared and flavourful and the staff is quick and very nice.
Whether it is the smoked pork, chilli, tortiere, brie and maple fondue (wife's favorite), or other fine meals, it is my favorite place for lunch in the County...and they always have a great soup.
We found this place on the recommendation of a woman in a local clothing store. our lunch was absolutely delicious. amazing elk burger, delicious crepes, heavenly cheesecake. really friendly service. entrees are all 11 or 12 dollars. Good local beer and cider. this will definitely be a regular lunch spot now that we know about it!
On entering the Painted Peppercorn for the first time, I didn't expect too much. But I'm happy to say that it Exceeded my Expectations with it's interesting and varied menu; fresh, great tasting meals and friendly service.
Sometimes it's tough finding a quality restaurant in small town Ontario. Sometimes I want more than just the pub experience. Sometimes I want more than just the regular, boring burger and chicken fingers.
Found that 'more' at this place!
Chilled strawberry soup? Yes! Meatloaf with a mushroom sauce was great.
Local ingredients make up the salads and the bread is...

The Painted Peppercorn is by far the freshest, most wholesome place to eat in Picton. It is SO good. My family will come to eat here at least once every time we go up to the family cottage in cherry valley. I love that basically everything on the menu is from local farms/wineries! Two thumbs up!
The Painted Peppercorn is THE place to eat in Picton for a light, casual dining experience. The menu is basically made up of dishes which ingredients come all from local farms. This is a breath of fresh air. I don't like going out to eat much because every place seems to drench their foods in greases and oils. My 3... more
After a brutally hot day touring Prince Edward County, we decided to stay in town and eat at a restaurant in Picton near our lodging. My wife spotted the Painted Peppercorn just off the main street. We found this cute little cafe by accident in Picton just off the main street, had a wonderful meal. It has a small menu, but everything is fresh, local food that is all homemade there. I have visited the Painted Peppercorn for lunch a few times and I am never disappointed. Eaten here a few times, food was good service was unremarkable. If your a vegetarian like my wife and I it is difficult to find vegetarian options. Most resteraunts think a salad 0r pasta is catering to vegetarians Painted Peppercorn has some creativity.
I have never seen a single restuarant with both lousy service and food.
Menu changes frequently, and food is made from very fresh and good quality local products
Small place with a patio at the back. The food was very good. I had the red lentils wich were very tasty. The gazpacho was made with fresh ingredients and I wanted more. My wife got the burrito wich was huge and very good too. Home made key lime pie to top it off. Great service. Would definitely go back if we're ever in Picton again.
