Ouisi is one of the few places in Vancouver to find authentic Cajun/Creole cuisine; it also sports a secluded back courtyard for al fresco dining. The New Orleanian sandwiches are a great pick for lunch or brunch, especially the popular Ouisi po’ boy (blackened chicken with Cajun tartare sauce on a baguette). For the post-shopping/pre-Stanley Theatre dinner experience, try the jambalaya or the... more
Over the years, this Shaughnessy fave has earned almost as much neighborhood loyalty as its NOLA inspiration. Breezy French doors and secret courtyard play it cool on sunny days where the bon temps start with bennies and a popular weekend brunch, and for lunch, the chicken pesto 14th Street Eats sandwich can't be beat. Other faves: jambalaya with local chorizo, an oyster po'boy paneed with... more
Having recently returned from a trip to New Orleans we wanted to see what Vancouver could offer of the amazing tastes and foods we had sampled there. Ouisi Bistro, located in a smallish place on Granville came up in a google search. When we entered we were immediately struck by the atmosphere and memorabilia on the wall.
From the moment...

I was a bit disappointed that the staff were unable to pinpoint an exact day that live music would be playing next. I will have to edit my review when I have visited Ouisi on a live music night.
The menu was adventurous and the food was great. We will definitely go again but we need to be able to...

We had made reservations for nine people on the occasion of our meeting the parents of our soon-to-be daughter-in-law.
So this was a special occasion, and Ouisi Bistro met our expectations.
Situated at 3014 Granville Street, you'd expect this Bistro to be a noisy location due to traffic. But, sitting in the back patio, shaded with lovely trees, you'd think...

So I've eaten at Ouisi now and then over the years, and what I can say is that across the board, the flavours are big and enjoyable.
This visit was for lunch, but it was late, so we were limited to the appetizer and the "anytime" menus. We chose the warm goat cheese starter to share, the mufaletta and the...

Jambalaya was delicious, spicy and rich. Live music and good service made the night even better. Service was good no complaints, good selection of beer. Will go back.
to add to my review in january - we went there again today. there was a bit of a problem with some of the food. i mentioned it to the wait staff, and without asking, we got a steep discount. hats off!
I've always wanted to give this place a test drive, especially since we used to live in the neighbourhood. Shouldn't have waited as long as we did, for it's got game, (in a city where good food is king) and the right amount of spice and atmosphere. Love the décor, food is tremendous;
there's an excellent selection of beverages, alcoholic...

The last time we dined over a year ago was for brunch, we returned this time for an evening out with drinks. Not busy at all, being a weeknight and even though later it was open mic night. We tried a few appetizers, the seafood chowder with cornbread (OMG - the cornbread was to die for!) The wings which had... more
We go here for dinner when we are at the Stanley Theater. Love the decor, food and service the murals on the wall add to the feeling of being somewhere warm and filled with music.
we've been going to ouisi bistro for over ten years now. it never disappoints. sometimes the coffee is not great, sometimes the food quality is a tad lower than normal, but overall, this place is totally dependable - a solid place to take someone to for a good dinner. we've been in new orleans and louisiana and the food at... more
Comfortable and inviting Creole / Cajun joint with friendly staff and flavorful, authentic provincial cuisine.
We had dinner before our play at the Stanley and overall it was a nice meal. I had the jambalaya and it was quite good - my spouse had the gumbo and quite enjoyed it. My only complaint is that there is a very poor winelist selection. The reasonably priced wines are quite low end wines and then they quickly... more
Late night snacks and drinks at 'Ouisi (Louisiana)...is a must. Sometimes music and sometimes not but the feel of the place is New Orleans and it remains a small place with character. Located beside Meinhardt's on Granville Street..great place for snacks and drinks after the day has well passed. Give it go. Can't comment on dinner or lunch but ...check... more
I live in the neighborhood - so for a lack of choice, I have been a customer at Ouisi's now for 5 times since last September, and I was never satisfied. The food is mediocre (i.e. not bad, but also not spectacular); it is quite pricy (food around 20$ or more for simple dishes); the selection of beer is clearly... more
Coming from the UK I don't have much experience with Southern food so I can't really say how authentic this place is, but I certainly enjoy coming here on every visit to Vancouver. The food is delicious (though beware of over-ordering since the portions are huge!) and the menu offers a wide selection of choices. The jerk chicken is extremely... more
We had dinner here on a sunny evening - Canada Day, in fact - in the courtyard outback. Service was friendly if a bit slow but the food was good creole with the heat factor adjusted to suit your taste. Ousi is worth checking out if you like jazz - the vibe, like the decor, is great.
The bar, vibe and service were great. Jazz kind of bistro, with art on the walls. We had lunch, a blt sandwich and a hustle & bustle. We thought the food was average. We certainly enjoyed the music and atmosphere!
Had an evening meal at this restaurant with friends. I had the Jambalaya plus starters and the food and the portions were excellent. Good atmosphere also.
I had the hustle and bustle special it was delicious soup and sandwhich and was presented beautifully. The waitress was friendly as ever and provided great service. I love the jazz atmosphere and decor. I tried the alligator here with friends for fun as well.
The only thing I didn't like was the cornbread it was dry, tasteless and a...

Went with friends for dinner here and it was great! Large portions, delicious food, tasty cornbread with each meal, cool atmosphere. Many of the entrees come with 2 sides, I especially enjoyed the yam fries. I want to go back for brunch and sit on the back patio in the sun!
We had dine-out Vancouver and was a bit disappointed. Of the six different plates we enjoy half the plates. The wings taste like someone forgot to season them. The gumbo we thought tasted burnt also. Southern Fried Chicken Breast was ok but nothing special.
The Basque Prawns, Red velvet Cake and Bread Pudding was great.
The place was dark and...

Very filling lunch at a sit-down restaurant for the price of a fast-food place in Vancouver ! Enjoyable and flavourful meal ( po boy chicken sandwich w/ salad) during a hard day of shopping...will certainly return.
The sole purpose of our visit was for my almost teen son to have the gator bites . We were warmly greeted when we entered . Our waitress was very friendly and helpful in our decision making . My selection was chicken , stuffed with crab and little roasted potatoes . It was wonderful and tender . I was planning... more
Great comfort food and nice atmosphere. Excellent patio out back - nice to go at night. New Orleans style food and decor. Very small and unique. Refreshing to visit.
Great hidden patio in summer, though not a lot of sunshine. Great live music, especially during Jazzfest. Food is awesome Cajun style some good values some overpriced (catfish). Also a money place to hit for a late night flight of whiskey and Bourbon.
Everything I have eaten here has been amazing! Highly recommend the Apricot Espresso Chicken - though be prepared to take home leftovers!
Late afternoon, Ouisi was open for an early supper. The friend I met was handicapped and the waitress seemed uncomfortable to have us there.
I had a Caesar salad which was oozing mayonnaise - no hint of garlic. It was basically inedible. To have bread with it cost an additional $4 which made the meal high priced for something that...

Returned after many years away from the neighbourhood and here's what we thought about what we had.
Cornmeal crusted trout with shrimp remoulade: fabulous/great change from perpetually flour-battered fish; remoulade, delicious and complemented the trout well in both flavour and texture.
Southern fried chicken Po' Boy: divine
Chow Chow Relish: amazing
Caesar salad: good garlicy flavour, nice...

My sister treated me to lunch today & we thought this cute Bistro would be fun. We both ordered the Chicken & Duck Sausage Gumbo with a side dish of cornbread. The cornbread was excellent & the Gumbo was horrible. I've never seen a black soup based Gumbo & I thought maybe the colour influenced the taste. I tried a... more
I had read some very negative reviews of Ouisi, so felt compelled to rally to Ouisi. First of all, it was pouring rain (typical Vancouver spring day) and the hostess invited us in early explaining "I can't leave you out there" so golf clap to her! Restaurant was just firing up so needless to say coffee was fresh, hot, plentiful.... more
A few friends and I had been to the Stanley Theatre and decided to drop in for appies and drinks. We had heard about the Ouisi but had never tried it before. We were not disappointed and will definitely go back!

The flavours and spice was excellent. The food was excellent. I enjoyed the "Gator Bites" as a novelty. The spice/dish was excellent although alligator meat I guess is a little tough but well worth a try for something new. The Muscles (PEI) were service mixed with french fries and they too were excellent. These were both appetizers and I was... more
This restaurant is in the stylish neighbourhood of south Granville Street amongst the boutique shops, antique stores, and gourmet grocers. I have been to Ouisi Bistro frequently but my most recent visit was the best of all. The black bean soup ( an appetizer but a meal in itself) was to die for. The entrees were plentiful but may be overwhelming for a small eater. You will not come away from this restaurant feeling empty or unsatisfied. We were delighted... more
The room is a nice space - cozy with lots of character. The complimentary cornbread was damn fine, warm and crusty, melted butter, mmmmm.
Fairly large menu. Went with the classic jambalaya which was good, not great. Interesting concept with a bunch of side dishes from which to choose; we shared four and they were all delish - sweet potato...

I have been here two times for brunch. Everyone at our table loved the food, prices are reasonable. The waitress was great. Great atmosphere as well.
We were there for dinner on a Saturday night in May. Two adults and two children. The kids shared the catfish dinner. It was tasteless. We ordered 2 appetizers -- mussels and gator bites. Mussels were not fresh. Gator bites were very tough. It's my first time trying gator meat so I didn't know what to expect ... however I... more
Took my wife here on our first date...food was so good she married me. Seriously, this is another one of those great Vancouver restaurants with amazing, unique atmosphere and food to match.
Feeling nostalgic about New Orleans, I had dinner at Ouisi Bistro recently and it wasn't close to being ranked as a Louisiana style restaurant. The $18 cornmeal crusted trout I ordered was salty and otherwise bland. It had a mango beurre blanc sauce that was not good at all. The entree came with some roasted potatoes and vegetables thrown on... more
New Orleans cuisine comes to Vancouver. The food was a little too salty.
Interesting flavours but the gator bites killed me.
Great food, great sounds, nice atmosphere.
Nice cajun food, great jambalya...sometimes live entertainment.
Delicious breakfast! Long line ups
Beautiful back garden patio, amazing bennies, great lunch, great live music.
The flavours and excitement of New Orleans are presented without pretension in a warm, engaging atmosphere. My favourites include voodoo-style ribs, jambalaya and seafood gumbo. Weekly live music, huge selection of libations, garden terrace.
great to lite it up before the theatre night
Great place for live jazz and cocktails...the food is not too great!!
Great garden in the back. Love going here for weekend brunch
Mid to upscale cajun food. Pretty tasty, but not great. Nice setting.
The black bean soup is awesome!
awesome food, tasty, fun, good prices!
Just went for a beer and snack, but they have a cute little courtyard in the back which is nice in the summer.
My girlfriend and I went to the Ouisi for our first time and I was amazed at the meal I had. I had an apricot brandy half chicken that was so big it hardly fit on the plate. It came with the best stuffing I've ever tasted. My girlfriend had a pepper chicken that I also tasted. Delicious! (But anything is when covered in melted Brie.)It was the best value and quality I've had in a long time.... more

I like the atmosphere here. And the jazz they play is great. For a beer and a burger its pretty good. And the chicken caesar is always dependable and delicious. Everything from the gator, crab cakes and baked goat cheese to the seafood crepe and voodoo ribs was outstanding. Louisiana favourites include voodoo-style ribs, jambalaya and seafood gumbo. Huge selection of libations, garden terrace. $$. L/D (daily), brunch (Sa-Su).
Cajun & Creole classics & bourbon are served in a jazz-themed room or courtyard, plus live music.
This jazz and blues inspired restaurant just out of downtown is busy most nights of the week. Find generous servings of spicy Southern-style cuisine.
