The food is great, and it's a nice welcoming atmosphere. But, they keep running out of things, like yogurt and not at the end of the day, but early. It's ridiculous, clearly you need to order more or make more or get a bigger fridge. Someone needs to sort it out because being sold out of a breakfast item before 9am on a weekday and before 10am on a weekend is annoying.

Did you know Elm Cafe does catering! I've actually never been to Elm, but I've been to Burrow and know they make good sandwiches. This place is ideal on a warm day to enjoy their patio seating (the cafe is very tiny)! It really is a "hole in the wall", but that's really part of its charm. Too cramped and too snooty, but all is forgiven when you taste their coffee, which is outstanding. If you're staying, plan to do so in nice weather so you can snag one of three patio tables. Sitting inside, you're sure to have someone's a@s in your face. This is definitely a grab and go joint. I would prefer that they abandoned indoor seating altogether so that the wait is less claustrophobic.

I am a sucker for a fresh salad and Famoso does not fail. I love the Famoso salad, the dressing is spectular. I also really enjoy the tomato soup. This place has great food and great service. The only downside is how small it is inside but in the summer there is a small area to sit outside so this is definitely somewhere you need to check out. I miss the days of summer when I would ride my bike to Elm on the weekends for my sandwich lunch.

Menu is always changing with fresh ingredients and crazy concoctions.
Sandwich + cold brew is the way to go on a hot edmonton afternoon.
Super friendly staff and ample seating outside to enjoy the weather.

Simply put, Elm Cafe has the best coffee in Edmonton. No question about it.
And luckily (or not, depending on how you look at it) they are just up the street from me. Which means it is a very easy decision when I am out of beans at home.

Great pizza, and I love my pizza! It is a thin crust pizza so for a family of 4 with two kids under 12 you will probably need 3 pizzas if you are very hungry which can start getting a little pricey.

I think we visit famoso Neapolitan pizza once every two weeks or so. We won't get tired of their fast service and great pizzas oh! And the savory tomato soup is my favorite ever! :) once on a time I like to pamper myself and I get the Nutella crepe! Is the best! :)

I love pizza, but this was the worst. We choose to sit outside as it was a nice evening. Our waiter seemed to ignore us, never checked to see if we enjoyed our meal or to refill out drinks. Will never go back.

I have eaten at several of the Famoso sites in the city and have never been disappointed. The pizza is very similar to the pizza I have eaten in Italy and the gelato is very good. The tomato bisque is almost sinful. The pocket sandwiches are also excellent

If you don't mind wading through throngs of Edmonton hipsters to get to a great sandwich, then this is the place to go. I dislike the curry tuna, but so far I've enjoyed every single other sandwich - especially the pulled pork.

There is only one downside to the Elm cafe - they make a handful of custom creations every day, and if it's not to your liking you don't really have another option. However, they quite reliably have multiple, suitably diverse choices these days, so that really cuts the risk factor down.

WAAAAH. I wish I lived downtown so I could be closer to this gem of a sandwich shop. Have been to Elms just three times but I love the coffee they serve on drip here. It's the 49th parallel roaster's coffee which is pretty unique and flavorful. A great change from say, a Transcend go-er since they get beans from various parts of the world - Guatemala, Columbia and parts of Africa as well. I really love what Nate has done with this tiny space. I've enjoyed every soup and sandwich I've tried and admire the fact that despite the daily changes in options, the quality is always high. Elm serves 49th Parallel coffee and they do an excellent job pulling Epic espresso.

How good is Elm Cafe? The Second Cup around the corner has since shut down.

I love Elm Cafe. I was so excited when it opened. No more Second Cup for this girl! Their coffee is great, the sandwiches are delicious, the muffins are tasty, the service is friendly. I highly recommend it. My only issue with the place is that it's basically take-out only, with hardly any seating. It's not really a problem in the summer, but hopefully things still work out for them come winter... more
