employers? I suspect some of the wind catastrophizers around Pickering are anonymously supported by nuclear employees. one of those grouops was screeching about ow personal windmills & windmills on farms "were dangerous to children & parents are irresponsible". unbelieveable. farms apparently are too dangerous for children?? only morons would buy this argument. farms are perfect places to... more
NOW is Toronto's weekly news and entertainment voice, published every Thursday.
I'm glad its around, but I usually end up wishing it had just a little more in it (and at the same time a lot less!) I felt that I would enjoy one to three well written bits, and then I'd leaf through the rest. I think its got some quality writing, but not enough of it, and a fair bit of weak writing. I hope it improves!
Gotta love a paper that roasts Rob Ford for his drinking problem and then on the following page has a Best Places to Drink in TO guide.
The journalism and op-ed pieces are for the most part borderline wacko and I skip them all together. The only reason I pick up a NOW mag is for the event listings otherwise I wouldn't even bother.
I wonder what will happen when sideshow Rob leaves office and...

Based on consumption, I should probably go 5 stars. The only Thursdays I don't pick up a copy are those when I'm not in Toronto.
In fact, I kind of regret not bringing along a few copies for my friends when I went to California this year. Not that it is hugely different from LA Weekly.
Favourite secions: music and movies. These days I don't know any of the bands they list or review but it is...

Overly politically correct. Almost a quarter of the paper is full of adult services. Can't you find a better revenue stream?
I've been reading Now since I was a pre-teen. I used to fantasize about all the cool nightclubs I could be going to.. I also enjoyed the "Ernie Pooks Comeek" and "Life in Hell" comics, which are no longer published,
As I've become an adult I've grown to find Now's knee-jerk leftist viewpoint laughable. I'm a bit of a liberal, but cannot support most of what Now passes off as journalism. Eye...

Probably the number one reason I don't read NOW more often is that it's not stapled. I despise newspapers and how unwieldy they are to handle and read. If they could throw a few cents towards production and staple their issues the way EYE does, I might be more likely to read it cover to cover.
Every Wednesday night when I'm stumbling home from whichever bar or party at 3am, I pick up a copy of...

I can't hate Now for being what it is - Toronto's main independent weekly. But I have to say that the vast majority of the reasons I pick it up have to do with either being bored or looking up event listings. Or looking up event listings because I'm bored.
I find the attempts at making local news and Canadian politics both interesting and relevant to a mass audience to be admirable. But...

Every city has their own alternative weekly, and one of Toronto's babies is Now Magazine, which I use every Thursday to schedule the bulk of my week and gawk at the concert pages.
I admit the political articles have barely kept my attention over the last few years, but its purpose as a scheduling, event, and community resource takes up too much time as it is. Of course, with the madness that...

Now magazine is still very relevant, even in a world that is migrating away from paper and onto the computer. Available in newsstands for free, it's rare that you can pick up an issue and not find something cool to do - be that hitting up a club or concert, or finding a decent place to score some good eats.
