A good-value, few-frills, modern hotel, the Novotel is in the heart of the animated, bar-lined Esplanade area, near the St. Lawrence Market, the Air Canada Centre, Union Station, and the Entertainment District. We picked Toronto for a weekend getaway after looking for a reasonably priced hotel that was centrally located. This hotel was the perfect choice. Great location, close to Harbourfront, walk to Yonge St city centre, Union Station, CN Tower, Roger Arena, bus station at Bay St, etc. Very nice and welcoming staffs (especially Anna Maria from breakfast section). Easy and fast check in and out, no hassle. Really want to stay longer and enjoy the hospitality.
Spent one night. Great location across from bars on the Esplanade and close to St Lawrence Market and Union Station and short walk to Eaton Centre. You have to pay extra for parking $28 plus tax. Disappointed with advertised special offer of champagne upon arrival when we discovered that it wasn't champagne but a rather ordinary sparkling wine. Champagne is champagne. Sparkling wine is sparkling wine.
Was in town for a concert at the Sony Centre, running late, flew into the lobby, staff was very friendly and efficient, gave me room key and took care of bringing my bag up to the room. Good start. This is not the usual Novotel, but a conversion of a 'grande dame', so the hotel is neither one nor the other. The room was in consequence large, but gloomy. Stayed here Jan. 24 for one night. Check-in was easy. Room was disappointing. Like numerous other reviews state, the rooms are tired, shabby and strangely decorated. Myself wife and kids aged 14 and 3 stayed at the Novotel Esplanade, January 10th to 11th and I have to say it was probably the worst stay at a hotel I ever had. I'm a pretty reasonable and easy-going person. I have stayed in hotels and motels across North America, the Caribbean, Europe and Dubai.

Stayed here for a raptors game - we usually always stay at the Novotel In Vaughn and were expecting the same thing here. The hotel was clean and the service was good - overall just average. We still prefer Novotel in Vaughn.
We chose this hotel from pictures online and location, but the rooms are dated. With a prepaid booking we got there and were told we had not paid. With no proof on us we had to repay and now fight to get it back.
Stayed here Jan 24th, was excited to use the pool. My husband went to see pool before I went up. Reported that 2 people were in pool and a pool attendant was there. The staff are always delightful from the moment we are met at reception to the bar/restaurant and the chamber maids too. That's why we keep coming back, everyone is so helpful and friendly. Thank you to all the Novotel staff.
We didn't have water for half of our stay. Of course, the hotel said "it's not our fault, the city had some plumbing issues!". That excuse would be acceptable for a MOTEL but not for Novotel. Very good location for downtown venues, a bit off the main streets so a bit darker at night but quite safe. Good sized rooms but feels a bit tired. Could see through our towels, pillows all too big and no choice, and noisy snow removal for several hours at night. Staff helpful. We will likely use again but request different room in the winter!
Location Location Location! This was a very nice hotel and easy to get to with being located close to the highway. The Esplanade has lots of great restaurants and bars all within steps from the front door. My room was equiped with the essentials an overall it was a nice stay. Direct access to the parking garage from the hotel lobby so no worrying about the weather when you plan on driving.
Booked a 2 queen bed room, Got a queen and an extremely uncomfortable twin daybed. Paint on ceiling was peeling and tiles were cracked in bath. Carpet was stained. Blanket had burn hole. Lighting in room was awful. Pillows and mattresses were terrible.
The hotel staff were very polite and helpful, and the hotel was in a convenient location (though there was a lot of construction near the hotel which made it easy to get lost coming back and forth from the subway.) Always enjoy this hotel and reasonable parking in the area. Hotel is excellent as are restaurant and bar staff and cleaning staff. Front desk staff always standing at their couples with their heads down, like they have something more important to do than interface with the guests.

This is an attractive, comfortable hotel close to Union Station, subway and St. Lawrence Market. The room was very comfortable, well organized for work, and immaculately clean. Staff were helpful and responsive.
Great to walk around the financial district, lots of construction making it difficult to drive or take taxis. The underground system was abundat in the area and a small convenience shop just next door also make it nice if you needed a snack.
We were pleasantly surprised with our stay at Novotel. The location could not have been better for seeing many of Toronto's major attractions. The staff was kind. Breakfast is expensive but tasty and convenient. Everything was clean and comfy- even the beds and duvets. We will definitely try to stay here again if we ever revisit the city.

I have stayed at this hotel on three occasions over the past year. I am very pleased staying here. It is in a central location, and the rooms are very comfortable. As well, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Finally, the hotel has a great breakfast buffet (though for some reason, they don't offer oatmeal!) Overall, I enjoy staying at this hotel, and I highly recommend it!
We had booked a flight and hotel package through Expedia with view to visiting our son who has moved from Wales(UK). Lobby is cool, and staff was very welcoming. Elevators quick and card access may help...

Not nearly the best, not the worst. They try to provide what you need but as another reviewer said, it's never with a smile and somewhat begrudgingly. This place just doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. Staff is distant, uninvolved but never rude, just "distant"...... I'm an Aussie Travel Agent and I totally enjoyed my visit. A 5 min walk from Union Station, virtually opposite the Hockey Hall of Fame. Very modern, staff were excellent, was given a corner room, so more space than I needed. Wireless internet, free, big bathroom and restaurants opposite. Buffet breakfast very good value for money. Reception money exchange rates better than I got in a shopping... more
Habe sechs Nächte im Novotel übernachtet. Hervorzuheben ist die auuserordentlich gute Lage. Yonge Street, Skydome und Marina sind in Gehdistanz. We only stayed one night and we were happy with our stay at the Novotel. The room was small, but it was clean and there was a decent sized bathroom. Parking was available, costing $23. The hotel is in a good location, being close to the tower and restaurants are nearby. The hotel bar was opened quite late, enabling us to catch up with friends in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Overall, we would... more
When we arrived our room was not ready. It was after the stated check in time. We were told one room was ready but the second one would be ready in about 10-15 minutes. No apologies made, just told we could check back later or hang out in the room that was ready. We agreed to do that and asked them to call room when the 2nd room was ready. About 30-40 minutes later they finally had room ready.... more
Excellent room, very comfortable bed, attentive and helpful staff, nice pool and whirlpool . Very good food in the Nicole Cafe. Will go back definitely.
The front desk staff were very helpful, and professional. I would definitely return to Novotel when back in Toronto.
Covenient place to reach most of the attractions and places to see with a relatively good price.
I agree with absolutely EVERYTHING David R. from Chicago says below. Including that we got a great deal through hotels.com. I would definitely stay there again.
i had a friend visiting from Singapore recently who wanted to know where to stay in Toronto. I sent him a few suggestions right downtown so it would be easy for me to show him around (first time to Toronto!) and also easy for me to get there on my bike.
He chose the Novotel, the location is great. So close to everything. Easy to get to by car (Lakeshore/Gardner is right there so it was quick to...

I frequent this Novotel on a regular basis for work reasons and absolutely love how courteous the staff is and how great of a location it is. It's right outside downtown so you can avoid the noise, but it's just a quick walk away from the heart of the city.
Excellent downtown location. An easy walk to the St. Lawrence Market and many fine eating establishments. Hotel was clean and a good value.
I really enjoyed my experience at Novotel. They are the only hotel in Toronto that I could find who didn't charge a pet fee or wifi fee. It was comfortable, clean, quiet and the staff was great. We went for dinner at the old spaghetti factory, a soak in the hot tub/pool, drinks in the lounge (GREAT service from JeanYves). We live in Toronto and treated ourselves to a night downtown, definitely... more
Rooms are fine, but reception cocked up twice in getting me a non-smoker. The breakfast buffet is unnecessarily expensive.
“It is clean and nice yet not really upscale. Give it 3 stars for neatness, facilities and location. Would stay there again yet tell friends not to expect high-end swanky.”
“Very clean, somewhat spartan rooms. Helpful staff. Excellent location near train station, subway, business district, performing arts venues and St Lawrence Market.”
“It was a nice hotel in a good location but our room had no view at all.”
“Hotel was clean, central heat did not allow for individual room temperature control. Our room was warmer than we like. I requested 2 beds upon reserving the room but was given a room with one bed and a pull out...older, uncomfortable.”
Both the times I spent in novotel was due to a full royal York. The rooms don't have as good a view as other places, but they still overcharge. 200$ for a standard room? Meh.
Hotel itself was ok....constuction was occurring outside on the street right in front of the hotel, and hotel management put us in a 4th floor room right above the construction activity that started promptly at 7am. I wish hotel would have either accommodated us in another room, or, advised us that construction is occurring right in front of hotel so we could have considered other hotels for... more
I have been there before and would go again. Great area, walk to shops and many restaurants. On Sat visit the flea market outside at the St. Lawrence market.
“Would stay again. No problems. Would recommend to friends.”
Location is very good. Really good value - clean, well equipped, very reasonable rates.
We only stayed one night, so we didn't experience the restaurant, etc., but if you're going because of an event at Air Canada Centre (like we were), this is a FAB option! “I would look elsewhere. I was pretty disappointed. Front desk staff was pretty rude .”
I stayed at Novotel Toronto Centre with my wife and the place is amazingly well located, near Union Station, Lawrence Market, Air Canada Centre, Rogers Centre and Harbourfront. The Hotel is very clean and comfortable. The restaurant, Cafe Nicole, is very good and the waiters are the best in town! Very attentions and kind, always! I recommend for everybody!
This hotel is really in a wonderful part of town. Several restaurants located across the street, near the train station. Everything was within walking distance. The rooms were beyond what we expected for the price, and the staff was very helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Toronto!!
On site come and go parking was good! They seriously need to upgrade there TV's fortunately my hotel stay was merely for sleeping I turned the fuzzy thing off! I found the place clean and the staff friendly! I would stay there again myself! The price was good and it met my needs very well just wasn't flashy modern fancy by any means!
“European touches set this hotel apart from the usual North American hotels.”
Every thing was great I would recommend this hotel to all travelers.
I would recommend this hotel to others. We arrived at the hotel early and were able to leave our luggage at reception. We were even able to get an early check-in. Had a great room, friendly staff and i loved the gym, pool and hot tub. It was great value for money and i would definitely stay at this hotel again.

For our short one-night stay in Toronto, a well-located hotel was definitely a priority, so we decided the Novotel fit the bill well. The hotel itself is attractive and reminds me in many ways of those I've stayed in in Paris and London. The architecture and general ambiance exude a certain European quality which I really liked.

Great and clean hotel! Loved our bed and enjoyed having a full (delicious!) breakfast at the hotel. We also used the workout room which was very nice and the jacuzzi was a nice treat, as well. It felt good to come back to the hotel at night after a long day of walking around the city!
I spent 2 nights here last year and had a great time. The bed was so comfortable and had a great comforter. We didn't have the best view (the top of the parking garage...) and the room was a little small but we only paid $250 for two nights in downtown Toronto. There was a pool, a gym and a sauna that I checked out. They seemed clean enough but a little small.

We came in to town to attend a concert at the ACC. We found that the carpet in our room was very stained and dirty. There were people yelling and swearing around 2am in the morning in the hallway. I'm not sure I would stay there again as there are other hotels within walking distance.
It's a great hotel, in a great part of city. Close to alot of things. Room was clean, and had the ammenities we needed. The parking garage was very low at only 5 foot 11 opening, so our truck was too big to fit, and had to spend more money at a green P parking outside, beside the hotel. Also found it a little bit noisy, but we were close to the elevator, so it was expected. Very accomedating... more

Spacious room. Very clean. Would go back again. And good price too.
The location of this hotel is by far the best in Toronto. There are tons of bars and restaurants, the waterfront is closeby, entertainment, shopping. It really is in the middle of everything. The only negative thing is the parking, which can get expensive. It was $20 for the hotel garage, but we ended up going down the street to one of the parking lots. The Novotel has spacious rooms with a TV, free wireless internet access, a pool, a fitness center, and other perks. The hotel and rooms were always kept clean and the staff was friendly. Excellent location, clean rooms and good facilities.
Difficult to drive to and from due to G-20 security. Great looking full bar. Nice breakfast cafe. Secure subterranean parking with secure entry. I would definitely return.
My husband and I spent 5 nights at this hotel and were completely satisfied with the experience. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean and bright. Perfectly located for our stay, since we did not rent a car and walked/took the trains everywhere. We walked to everything, and did not have to walk too far. Friendly staff, clean rooms, everything was as it was portrayed online. Really, no complaints! We would recommend this hotel to others.
Stayed at the Hotel for a conference. Location was within walking distance (7-8) blocks from the convention center . The rooms were very clean and comfortable. It was a great deal.
Not too sure where there was miscommunication between Novotel and [...] but reservation was not present when we tried to check in. Fortunately, I had brought a copy of my confirmation so Novotel could call [...]. We went out for a little bit to get some food and when we came back to Novotel, our room had been upgraded to a King suite which was pretty amazing.
The location is convenient, walking distance to the convention center, the St Lawrence market, and the Yonge street downtown area. Free wireless, comfortable room, excellent breakfast buffet. If your in a rush, they have coffee and croissant for a "toonie" -$2CDN.
The location was great but the room was very small and outdated. Also, we had arranged for a room with two queen beds and they said they could not give one to us because we reserved the room from a third party and they only reserve your selected room type for people who make reservations directly with the hotel. It was like they were trying to make a point that we have to pay them directly,... more
Parking was $18 per night but it was conveniently located directly under the hotel. EVERYTHING was booked when I was in Toronto. We had a room at the Fairmont but needed an additional room so we switched to Novotel. No, not anything close to the Fairmont, but it was decent.

Decent businessish hotel. In a decent location, too. REALLY close to the St. Lawrence Market. A few blocks from the nearest train station. Lots of good restaurants in the area.

“Great hotel. Clean, friendly staff, great location - walking distance to restaurants, hockey hall of fame, and CN Tower.”
“Nice exterior appearance. Hotel staff mixed - It take 15 minutes to check in. Room was ordinary (in my case with no view) - place seems to need a 'refresh' = particularly when it comes to staff. Plastic glasses/paper cups reminds me of Super 8 motel.”
“Good value for a downtown location. Helpful check-in staff who accommodated my request for a quiet room. Expensive parking considering there is public parking available right behind the hotel at a third of the price.”
“Reasonable for 3 star hotels. Good location & clean. The pool was decent.”
“Nice, upscale hotel with gym and pool. Secure. Great location.”
“Very good, convenient walking distance to many restaurants, union station, etc.”
“I like the hotel. The parking should be free as my clean car was covered in dust from construction in parking garage, fine cement dust not good for paint job. Cleaning staff noisy and made you feel you had to get out of your room so they could clean, after three knocks on room even though we where staying another night.”
“Good location, clean, good overall 3 star hotel. Walls and doors a little thin, could hear other rooms and people in the hall.”
“The best thing about this hotel was the location, which was right Downtown in the historical heart of Toronto.”
“NO bed sheets were placed in the room. Unable to find easily writing paper & pen. Not enough electrical outlets. Drinking bottled water was very expensive.”
“I thought this to be a very nice hotel, in a nice area of downtown. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and fresh; however, hotel corridors seemed a bit dated. The room was plain but clean, the chairs not the most comfortable, but met the need.”
“Comfortable quite clean but internet very slow did not work.”
“Simply said we loved being there and hated leaving.”
“The hotel is situated in a great location, within walking distance to great dining/shops. In general, the hotel is nice, but they skimp on a lot of hotel "givens." the mini bar was set up on sensors, so that if you even moved an item, you would be charged for it (i.e., if you pick it up, you are automatically charged). Staff was relatively friendly. Parking was a hidden expense.”
Only one disappointment - non-smoking room not available and no offers were made to give a free upgrade to the only non-smoking rooms available. The room only smelled a little. “Excellent location near front street and nearby subway station. Clean and tidy, and would not hesitate to stay there again. I emailed before hand and asked hotel for two beds which was not a problem for them. I loved that! The room was smoking, but that doesn't bother me as much as sharing a bed.”
“Pleasant facilities, but given a smoking room. Accommodations have minimal view, but quite hospitable.”
“Hotel location is excellent, close to restaurants and clubs, steps from Younger and St Lawrence Market. The hotel rooms could use some updating. “This old world luxury hotel is centrally located in the Toronto financial district, as easy walk from Union Station. Their friendly international staff will have you looking forward to your next trip to Toronto.”
“The hotel was clean, safe and in a great location, in relationship to the Hummingbird Theater. The hotel staff was friendly, professional and helpful and the food in the dining room was excellent. It was a bit steep for my pocketbook though, but it served its purpose well anyway.”

“An excellent, clean, well-run establishment in a great location, with friendly helpful staff.Health club was impressive for a dedicated hotel facility.”
“Although the Novotel Toronto Centre appeared to be very nice from the outside and in the lobby, the room was small and not as clean as we had expected. “The location is one of the best in town. however, the room was not as nice as expected, and I found the amenities namely the whirlpool not that great. The hotel is undergoing renovations so I imagine that in the future it would be better.”
They got rid of the soft drink dispenser and now only available in cans. No napkins available at the tables, it is carefully regulated by the cashier. Chips are extremely average and the salsa is hot. Vegetarian burrito available.
